Decorating for Christmas, Scandinavian Style Your Lifestyle Magazine’s Interiors Expert, Victoria Stanton, takes a look at the trend for Nordic inspired red and white accessories and decorations for Christmas.
Christmas Red and White Honeycomb Bauble Garland, £7.49 www.gingerray.co.uk A Scandinavian Christmas, is less about the fairylit spectacle we Brits are used to and is more about and an appreciation for the origins of the season which bring together Christmas and the ancient Winter festival. The Scandinavians know all about creating a cosy feel indoors when it is freezing outside and their festive decorating traditions are iconic. Think pine forests, snow topped log cabins and open fires. Their Christmas style is characterised by simplicity, red, white, fairisle designs, natural materials, pinecones, evergreen branches, twinkling tealights and reindeer. The look is simple enough to work with contemporary décor but also classic enough to fit into a more traditional setting. There are lots of festive Nordic accessories in the shops and online right now, one of my favourite places online is www.nordichouse.co.uk. There are also lots of things you can do to capture the Nordic feel without spending a fortune …
It seems that the stores have been full of Christmas decorations since the children went back to school in September and there is just so much to choose from. Traditional, Victorian style decorations are still popular, as are contemporary decorations in smart single colour schemes such as purple and silver. There is a recent trend too for Christmas brights, such as lime, pink and turquoise, mixed with retro seventies motifs and kitsch cutesy reindeer. However, one festive theme that seems to be really popular right now is the Scandinavian Christmas style.
If, like me, you have a mountain of mismatched baubles, just pick out the reds, silvers and whites for your tree as the basis of this years scheme, but leave the tinsel out, even if the colours

would look really effective arranged in a simple vase and hung with baubles. If you save your jam jars, these would look great as tealight holders, or a very large glass jar could hold a short, wide church candle surrounded by moss and would be a wonderful centrepiece for your Christmas table. If you’re feeling particularly creative, it is simple to make pretty red and white bunting by folding diamond shaped paper over festive silver or red ribbon. Paper chains in red, white and brown kraft paper would work equally well. Ideally, the tree should be real, of course, but to be honest, some artificial trees are so good these days and you can even get pine scented sticks to hang in your tree – I promise I won’t tell if you decide to cheat!
Christmas Hessian Gift Luggage Tags £3.99 www.gingerray.co.uk are right – it’s just not going to work. Instead this might be your opportunity to get a little creative in the kitchen and make some pine tree shaped cookies, decorated with white icing and threaded with red ribbon. A trip to the park could be a chance to pick up some branches which
As a finishing touch, why not consider coordinating your gift wrapping? A tree looks all the more festive when there is a hoard of presents beneath it – wrapping presents in plain red paper with raffia bows or brown kraft paper with red ribbons will top the look off beautifully..

Baubles, baubles, baubles! I always find it exciting to delve into our box of Christmas decorations, in fact, it may be my favourite part of Christmas! I can never quite remember what is going to be in there and rediscovering this treasure chest full of goodies brings back so many memories. Baubles collected from foreign travels are mixed up with old family favourites and a good mix of standards I always use as fillers. But lurking at the bottom of the box there are always some that are looking a little tired after fifteen or twenty busy Christmases, which gives me the perfect excuse to do a little shopping.
is rather anarchic. I can’t help it. I really love baubles! Whilst I try to discipline myself to keep to a theme, I normally can’t help piling these gorgeous little creations onto my tree, willy-nilly, no matter what shape, colour or style. I can only use the word ‘eclectic’ to somehow justify this joyful chaos. Baubles are not only for the tree. Why not fill a glass vase or bowl with baubles for an attractive table centrepiece? They can hang from natural branches as a wintery floral arrangement. They can even be wired and pushed into a polystyrene ring to make a colourful and unique wreath for the front door. So where to start, what to choose? I’ve cast my eye over what’s new right now and here are my ten favourites for this season.
Despite the advice I regularly dispense regarding keeping to a cohesive decorative theme at Christmas, I feel compelled to confess, that in our household our Christmas décor

The mystical bauble Spirit or Witch balls originated in England in the Eighteenth Century and were used to ward off evil spirits. Folklore has it that the evil spirits would be enticed by the bright colours. The glass strands inside the ball would then capture the spirit and prevent it from escaping. Whilst deterring witches isn’t something we worry too much about in the twenty first century, they do make amazing Christmas decorations, even though, at 15cm diameter they are not strictly baubles! These balls from Peach Perfect are hand blown so each is one is unique. They also make lovely presents! £20.00, www.peachperfect.co.uk

Projects from PAINT IT by Peta Green of Paint It Fitted Kitchen – from Dark to Light The Brief Peta received an enquiry to paint a fitted kitchen which would instantly update the aged pine kitchen of 25 years old. The customer was on a budget and a complete re-model was not an option for them. The carcases and doors where in a good condition, so Peta’s brief was to bring more light into the kitchen utilising the existing units.
AFTER
BEFORE If you would like to speak to Peta contact her on 01952 670805 to arrange a FREE of CHARGE home consultation or visit www.paintitfurniture.com
The Solution Peta visited the customer on 2 occasions to advise and help with the colour choice. Along with paint swatches, photos and a sample painted door helped the customer visual the transformation. The customer wanted a county feel to her kitchen and the colour had to work with the existing tiles and work surface and importantly make the room lighter and brighter. Using their 7 coat paint system Paint It handed the fitted kitchen in a contemporary cream. The existing door and drawer pulls we re-fitted after they had been totally cleaned and polished and looked as good as new. With the newly painted fitted kitchen the customer had a new canvas to add and change the colour of kitchen accessories.

Your room lighting Each room has its own role to play in daily life so take this into account when planning lighting; you can change the whole atmosphere of your home just by the careful use of lighting. You need to find a balance between functionality and personality while allowing for flexibility. There is an endless amount of choice in lighting so it is all too easy for the consumer to get confused so it is vitally important to know before purchasing exactly how light works and what to think about for each room.
Home
our time; it needs to be easily controlled and functional. The most effective blend are ceiling pendants with floor/table lamps and wall lights so you can easily adjust the amount of light needed in the room. Emphasize fireplaces with recessed down-lights Reading requires task lighting that comes from behind the readers shoulder. Keep the bottom of the shade at eye level to avoid glare. The Bedroom is a place of relaxation and requires soft lighting to help you unwind, bedside lamps and wall lights that can help with reading at night such as a swing arm wall light provides adequate light whilst leaving the night tables free. Hang a pendant or chandelier over the bed to create a dramatic effect and provide plenty of light
The hallway is the entrance to your home and gives visitors a first impression so creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere is a must. Hall lighting tends to be soft and fittings like pendants, lanterns, chandeliers and wall lights might be an ideal choice. By combining the right light along with mirrors which accentuate the effect of the light you can create a spacious area that’s bright warm and welcoming.
The Bathroom is a place of relaxation at night and a task room in a morning for getting ready so functional lighting is the way to go in the bathroom. A range of bright lights such as down lights to help create maximum light around the bathroom; a single shower down light for when you just want to illuminate the shower or bath area; to task lighting such as shaver point mirrors and mirror lights. Cool white LED lights would enhance the bathroom to create a clean crisp feel to the room. There are regulations about where you can position lights in a bathroom so make sure you’re planning considers safety first.
The Kitchen is the very heart of the house so its lighting needs to be variable to suit its many uses. A large ceiling fixture can provide good light but may leave you with shadows around the sink, cooker/hob and counter top areas, use supplement lighting like track-lights and spotlights to accentuate these areas. Bright lights focusing on worktops and island units with fittings like recessed down lights, under cupboard lights and Rise and Fall Pendants are also perfect decorative solutions for the kitchen.
We have now expanded our lighting showroom and moved it to a bigger premises just round the corner from our original premises. We have a huge range of top quality fittings from Contemporary and Traditional ranges on display of indoor and outdoor lighting to the latest innovations in LED technology and design. We also have a large range of lighting accessories including decorative mirrors, sockets, switches and pull cords to LED and Filament Light Bulbs. You will be spoilt for choice!!
The Dining Room is a place where friends and family get together for meals. Consider strategically pendants and chandeliers over a dining room table to enhance the beauty of fine dining while creating a focal point in a room. The pure white light of LED bulbs can make crystal and silverware sparkle. Add drama to your pictures with adjustable picture lights or recessed down-lights The Living Room is where we spend most of

Pride of Britian Award Winner
Samrick Singh Bahia from Wolverhampton won the West Midlands region for the Pride of Britain Awards. Samrick has so far raised thousands for Delete Blood Cancer UK and had all of his hard work recognised by the nation as he attended the Pride of Britain Awards final in London.
Samrick was diagnosed with Leukaemia during his first year at university, aged just 18. However, shortly after being taken into hospital he realised that he wanted to help others. “It was during the first month of being diagnosed that my family helped me to raise £5,000 on a JustGiving webpage. This was amazing and the support spurred me on and made me want to raise even more for Delete Blood Cancer UK. Since then we have hosted charity balls in Wolverhampton, our last one was a fantastic success and helped to raise £58,600.”
“I was so shocked to win this award, there are so many other amazing people that could have won for the West Midlands so I really didn’t expect it. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity, and a way of saying thank you to everyone that has supported me so far, ” says Samrick, who is currently completing his degree at the University of Worcester. “This award wasn’t just for me, none of this would have been made possible without the continued support from all of my family and friends. Winning this was for them as I am so grateful for how much they have helped me fundraise.”
Samrick has the aim to get as many black and Asian people on the stem cell register as possible. Finding a match can help save someone’s life and the chances of being a match are far greater with a donor from the same ancestry background. “Signing up to be on the register is so easy, and

‘INSURE’ you have a Happy Christmas It was a cold snowy Christmas Eve, all the little boys and girls were tucked up in their beds, sleeping, dreaming of the big day ahead. In one of these homes there was a man who had a sack bulging with gifts, TV’s, games consoles and cameras, but this was not who we had thought. This was a thief who had emptied houses of their treasures, luckily this homeowner was insured with PlesterGroup, who’s insurer had access to a 24 hours 365 day helpline and the day was saved.
Christmas was saved.
Then there was the story of the householder whose Christmas tree lights has caused his electric to trip, which caused his freezer to malfunction and leave a puddle of water, and all the Christmas food was ruined, luckily he was also insured with PlesterGroup and they had a policy which gave Freezer cover and once again
Please note that these are all fictional scenarios that could ruin your Christmas.
Whilst at the dinner table Grandad was in high spirits when pulling the Christmas cracker, however he pulled a little too hard, fell off his chair and landed on his Grandson’s brand new laptop breaking the screen. There was no need to panic though as accidental damage was included in the contents insurance policy bought from PlesterGroup.
To make sure you have an enjoyable Christmas contact PlesterGroup now, so we can tailor a policy to suit your needs.

Royston and Nick’s
Diary
Hair & Beauty
Crème De la Crème Ball The Crème De La Crème, is Cheshire`s most anticipated and prestigious annual event .Set in the grounds of Dawn and Ashley Wards home Warford Hall , this star stubbed evening was true Hollywood Glamour with this year`s theme LA.
Whatever the time of year, Nick and Royston`s diary never slows down. The end of the Summer months brings a climax to the wedding season and the last big one of the year was the salon`s very own Head Colour Technician James and his gorgeous wife to be Gemma. The team could not let this event go without a celebration and were out in force. Everyone was treated to a great Chinese dinner and laughed all night at their antics over the years. James has been with salon for many years and is a very important and valued part of the Royston Blythe Family. Nick and Royston were thrilled to share their special day and wish them a life time of happiness together.
The guest list included Corrie`s Kym Marsh, Shayne Ward and Antony Cotton, Loose Women`s Andrea Mclean, funny man Paddy McGuiness and the footballers wives were out in force, all looking dazzling down the Purple carpet. Nick and Royston took pride of place on Dawn`s table and enjoyed the spectacular entertainment with Alesha Dixon. With friends from Wolves also having tables at the glitzy night, the party continued well into the early hours!!!
Rap Party With the second series of `The Real Housewives of Cheshire` in full swing, the guys have been partying hard with the lovely ladies. To celebrate the end of the filming, Royston decided to host the Rap Party at Wightwick House. The show`s stars Dawn Ward and Leanne Brown came for the weekend and with close friends they were all treated to a real extravaganza .Nick and Royston, famous for their parties, filled the evening with naughtiness, great fun, show stopping singers and a delicious gourmet dinner. With the cameras not out, everyone let their hair down that night!!
Italy Holidays are few and far between for these two, but when they do have a few free days they love to travel. Holiday must`s for Nick and Royston are beautiful places, fabulous looking people and great shopping, so a trip to Capri ticked all the boxes. The guys stayed at the stunning Caprice Palace Hotel and Spa they enjoyed the fabulous Michelin Star restaurants. A few days relaxing in the sun and then enjoying the delights of the area included meeting up with Bob Geldof (who was on his honeymoon), is just the medicine these two workaholics need to get them ready for the months leading up to a very busy Christmas.

The renowned Heaven Skincare range has just seen its most exciting expansion yet, with the launch of a brand-new, neverbefore-seen suite of products, purpose-designed for men. Developed by Heaven’s iconic Founder, Deborah Mitchell and her expert team, the range has taken over a year to perfect. “So many of our customers told us that their boyfriends, husbands and partners were stealing their products from the bathroom shelves, and we had such a growing list of orders from men with no intention of sharing with their other halves, that we decided we had to do something about it” explained Deborah Mitchell.
“Many men are now rightly proud to look after their skin, and our range is indulgent enough to more than satisfy them, but it’s also been prepared for those guys who find the whole prospect of a skincare regime a headache – hence the 1, 2, 3 approach. It’s simple, mix-and-match, and all of the products are focused on exactly what they do for the skin, so there’s no confusion.” Designed with sleek, tactile black packaging, the products are perfect for everyday grooming, through to precision work.
“Our women’s range is undeniably gorgeous, but women’s skin is very different to men’s, in terms of cleansing, exfoliating, and moisturising, not to mention very gender-specific challenges with redness, in-growing hairs, aging, and all manner of requirements for soothing and protection.”
Our competition could not be simpler, all you have to do is buy any mens range product from www.heavenskincare.com and your name will automatically be enetered into our draw.

Most people dread going to the dentist but for Chloe Butler it was quite the opposite, she used to love visiting the dentist and decided at the age of four this is what she would do!
Chloe is a practicing dentist working at Titley, Darby and associates in Wolverhampton. She studied dentistry at Sheffield University graduating in 2000 and subsequently registered with the General Dental Council. In 2003 Chloe specialised in botox undertaking a course with renowned Allergan Dr David Eccleston. Furthering her interest in facial aesthetics in 2007 she undertook a dermal filler course with Professor Bob Khana. In 2004 Chloe set up a mobile facial aesthetics business, Hagley Facial Aesthetics ,enabling patients to receive treatments in the privacy and comfort of their own home. She also runs clinics at The Nail Lounge (Stourbridge), The Hive (Amblecote),
Chloe is about to embark on a new business venture with Dentist Dr Amit Pandey at Denora clinics in Kidderminster and Worcester where she will be providing regular botox and filler clinics. Chloe feels it is very important that standards are improved in the cosmetic industry. It is very concerning that there are people out there who aren’t qualified administering such treatments which would lead to adverse outcomes. i-Lipo What areas can be treated with i-Lipo?
The treatment works well on the abdomen, thighs, back, hips and chin.
How many treatments are needed?
Two-three treatments per week for a total of 8 treatments are needed for maximum results.
I have seen similar treatments, are they the same?
No, i-Lipo is different from other treatments. Some companies have tried to copy i-Lipo but do not offer the same power or treatment of 36 diode lasers.
Do I need to be on a diet for i-Lipo to work?
No, there is no need to restrict calories during the treatments, however, to maximize your results, you could decrease your caloric intake by 300-400 calories a day, which is simple to do.
Do I need to come in for maintenance treatments?
No, maintenance treatments are not necessary as long as you maintain a healthy lifestyle that includes eating healthy and exercise
How long is the treatment?
The actual treatment time will be 20 minutes. Plus time for exercise following the treatment.

Blakeys Eastern Promise Your Lifestyle Magazine’s food fanatic, Scott Ford takes a trip to Lye and finds that Blakey Delivers on his Eastern Promise. leather banquettes and plenty of knick-knacks to peruse, pride of place is the tropical fishtank in the centre. My interior designer wife, Victoria had big ideas for the changes she’d make, but I suspect Blakey and his loyal customers are quite comfortable with the surroundings just as they are. The restaurant is unlicensed. Personally I like the opportunity to take my favourite tipple, but don’t fret if you forget, there a few convenience stores close to hand. Jamal offered to put my beers in the fridge, a nice touch and a first for my experiences of ‘BYOB’ places. We had an ice bucket for the wine which did the job nicely. The servers were on hand for opening wines and beer, and brought new glasses for different wines, better service than you expect when you’ve brought your own booze.
Our foodie friends couldn’t believe we’d never tried Blakeys Eastern Promise in Lye, so the date was set for the four of us to meet up for a Saturday night feast. I had a quick peek at TripAdvisor, which I never take at face-value, but the incredible ratings and stream of praise in the comments made me think there must be something to this unassuming, cosy restaurant, nestled in the middle of the bustling High Street in Lye. Blakeys is an easy walk from the station (worth noting if you usually end up nominated driver) and there are some highly regarded pubs in the area so its a great choice if you’re looking to make a night of it.
We perused the varied menu with interest. As curry enthusiasts we were surprised at the amount of dishes that were new to us. For our starters, Victoria had Blakey’s Special fish which she said was sweet and delicately spiced. My lamb chops were very tasty and the presentation was excellent. The other starters were great too.
The restaurant is decorated in homely black and white theme, with comfortable 44

breast cooked with potatoes in a rich, well balanced sauce. She thought it was wonderful and we all had a try. Our friends were also delighted with their choices of Bengal Jalfrezi and Chingri Jaal, which was loaded with juicy king prawns. The naans were light and fluffy and the vegetable dishes were also superb, especially the aromatic cumin spiced cauliflower. Tandoori Lamb Chops Starter I noted that Blakey proudly advertises an open kitchen and sure enough I could see the chefs beavering away looking busy but well organised (I love a kitchen tour when I can get one – but I thought on a Saturday night it was probably best not to distract them). By the time our starter plates were collected I was looking forward to seeing what our main courses were going to be like. I’d gone slightly off-menu and asked if they could prepare an alternative version of one of their traditional chicken baltis. They were happy to oblige, which was great, considering it was one of their busiest times of the week. It didn’t disappoint. The dish was well spiced and the chicken was very tender. Victoria had decided to be adventurous and asked Jamal to recommend what he considered to be a ‘show-stopper’. He brought her the Akbari Chicken, which was a chicken
Akbari Chicken, Bengal Jalfrezi, Pilau Rice, Jeera Gobi and Saag Ponnir The restaurant is unpretentious and fun, the food is great and the service is friendly and efficient. On top of all that, it’s great value with starters ranging from £2.50 to £4.50 and mains from £5.50 to £12.95 (most are around the £7 or £8 pound mark. So, would we visit again? Absolutely!

Your Lifestyle’s food fanatic, Scott Ford’s suggestions for a wonderful foodie Christmas.
I love cooking at Christmas. It’s the time of year when food really takes centre-stage in the fun and festivities. Every year I think about cooking a goose for Christmas dinner but our extended families have always eaten turkey and that’s the way it will be for a long time to come. I must admit, I find turkey delicious and look forward to the many dishes made with leftovers in the week leading up to New Year’s Eve. A turkey sandwich can be a wonderful thing if it comes with plenty of salad and lots of seasoning.
forty quid from your favourite online supplier, the Thermapen is also available in a range of fancy colours if you’re looking for ideas for gifts for foodies. Check the internal temperature is at least 72°C in a few places, particularly the thickest parts, between the breast and thighs, before taking the turkey out to rest.
There’s plenty of advice online about how to cook a turkey, from Nigella Lawson brining the bird overnight to Gordon Ramsay cooking lunch in half the time that my parents’ generation would have thought acceptable. Whatever method you choose, take away the worry of undercooked (or indeed, overcooked) turkey by getting hold of a decent food thermometer. I’ve tried a few over the years and wouldn’t be without my Thermapen. Made in Britain, accurate, simple to use and available for less than

companions… chestnuts, bacon, posh ham, garlic, all great additions but I think the key is the cooking of the sprouts themselves. Start the sprouts in a saucepan of cold water, bring them up to the boil for 5 minutes then plunge them into iced water to cool. This can be done the day before then you can keep them in the fridge. Cut each sprout in half and cook slowly in plenty of butter in a sauté pan, with lots of salt and pepper. Cooking them until they are really brown gives a lovely caramelised flavour, removing most of the bitterness that gives sprouts a bad name.
So with the turkey safely in hand, here a few simple ideas that you may want to have a go at this year. This recipe for chestnut and sausage meat stuffing has been a family favourite for years, it was handed down to me by my Grandma: Chestnut and Sausage Meat Stuffing 500g sausage meat 200g chestnuts (vacuum packed are ideal) 1 medium onion 1 tsp fresh thyme leaves 50g butter Plenty of salt and pepper Finely chop the onion then cook gently in the butter, with the thyme leaves, until the onion is soft but not browned. Let the onions cool completely.
My auntie introduced me to the joys of ice cream made with leftover Christmas pud, with just a touch of booze. Ice cream that makes you feel warm inside? Mmmm…
Roughly chop the chestnuts and combine with the sausage meat and onions. Season well with salt and pepper. Cook in a shallow baking dish for 30 minutes covered in foil then 15 minutes uncovered for a crispy top (I usually put the stuffing in the oven when the turkey comes out to rest).
(Leftover) Christmas Pudding Ice Cream 200g Christmas pudding 200ml ready made custard 200ml whipped double cream 50ml brandy
A Shout Out for Sprouts
Crumble the Christmas pudding and combine all the ingredients well in a large plastic container. Place in the freezer but stir again every 30 minutes for a few hours until the texture is right. The brandy will prevent the ice-cream from setting completely, giving a wonderfully soft texture.
Brussels sprouts can be delicious. Yes, really! Over the years I’ve cooked them with various

Lizzie is so excited about her fantastic new idea and totally believes it is unique, well in some respects it is, however as you can tell by the title it’s been done before, don’t tell Lizzie though, you wouldn’t like her when she gets upset.
Lizzie Cotterill had a dream one night about an amazing story of a girl with a special Freezing power, when she awoke she told all the family members that she had another idea for a play. The family is used to Lizzie and her creative flow, however this usually means that she will force them all to perform AGAIN in her new creation. Unfortunately in true fashion things never go to plan with a Froggatt and Cotterill performance, things aren’t always as they seem.
This performance promises you a fantastic night out and you will never see a version quite like this one, dance, song and overall true Black Country humour at its finest. The ancient Italian city boasts some of the most stunning architectural history, beautiful eateries and wine bars, but what gives Rome the edge over so many other European cities? Jessica Thompson finds out. What have the Romans ever done for us? Well, for a start they’ve given us a truly captivating, magical city that offers a dizzying choice of places to see, eat and explore.
Visiting the Pantheon is another must on your Rome bucket list. Dating back to about 125AD, it is set in the surroundings of an idyllic square where you can enjoy the views from an outside café, sipping an espresso.
With so many sites to see, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. The first place on many tourists’ checklists is the Colosseum, an architectural marvel that dates back to 72AD.
However, you only get a real flavour for this impressive building once you step inside. The stunning dome-shaped roof displays the oculus that lets natural light enter the building from a round opening in the centre of the dome. Of

It’s easy to get carried away with the historic sites in Rome: St Peter’s Basilica, The Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, the Forum and many more ... they all vie for your attention. This will be a city break with a packed agenda. The best way of enjoying Rome is exploring it on foot – and that means a lot of walking – but there is, of course, the option to catch a bus or taxi or take the Metro, which services large areas of the city. But doing the leg work means you can easily meander and lose yourself down the roads, squares and piazzas, all of which burst with passionate Italian life, have fascinating stories to tell and are home to stunning buildings.

“Nothing says Christmas more than a bit of sparkle! Whether it adorns your Christmas Tree or your clothing, so thank the Fashionista’s stars that the London Autumn Winter ’15 catwalks were adorned with sacks full of the stuff.
Never create a focal point around or on an area of your body that you are not as confident about, for example if you dislike your bottom don’t have sparkles on your bottom half of the outfit as you will only draw attention to it.
Proenza Schouler and Rodarte featured the most glitzy and glamorous pieces which prompted my favourite trend of the entire year, meaning that this party season ladies we can go all out. Take the more is more attitude when it comes to glitter, sequins and lurex. Look for beautiful embroidery in shimmering threads which will glitter and shine in the party lights.
To understand more about how to create your own focal points and learn more about how to find the perfect party dress for your body shape why not book in for a Style Analysis, quote “Your Lifestyle” to receive 10% off for bookings in November and December 2015. Terms & Conditions apply.”
My one key piece of advice when it comes to wearing shiny fabrics, and lots of glitz is to consider where you wear it upon your body. Anything shiny and glittery will create what we refer to as a “focal point” use this wisely by ensuring that the focal point of your outfit is drawing attention to one of your assets. By drawing attention to a part of your body which you like and think is an asset, naturally detracts people’s attention from maybe an area you are not so confident of.

Your Wedding
Winter Weddings There is nothing more romantic than a winter wedding. Snow on the ground, frost in the air and tree bowers dripping with frozen crystals while inside is warm and cosy with glowing open fires, twinkling candlelight and fulsome winter foliage. It used to be that winter was considered the “off season” but venues have now wised up to the fact that it is a popular time of year to marry so the prices can be the same as peak season especially, the week between Christmas and New Year. So if you are planning a winter wedding then it is best to embrace the season and use what is readily available to you.
Make sure your venue works in the winter Obviously if you are planning a winter wedding then you should view the venue in the winter to see if it works well in the colder months. If you are attracted to venues that offer open fires with large ornate fireplaces to enhance the wintery theme, do ask then venue manager when you are viewing if the fires are working and can be lit. It is also worth checking whether you can have candles as many venue will not allow a naked flame (if not, don’t worry, you can use storm lanterns which when wreathed in winter foliage look just the part).
Check with the venue to make sure that there is sufficient matting at the entrance point so that guests can wipe their shoes and not tread slushy footprints into the venue. Look for a venue that has plenty of space between the main entrance and the access to the reception room. That way, you’ll keep the indoor environment toasty and warm. In the cold then guests will have coats and scarves so make sure that the venue has a cloakroom (and if possible a cloak room attendant) so that guests can leave they belongings safely.
When booking the venue take care to avoid any cold-weather mishaps. Make sure that people can actually get to the venue and that there is sufficient parking. If your wedding or reception is in a remote area do leave enough time in the agenda for people to get to the destination in case of bad weather that might slow them down. It might be worth considering having your ceremony and reception at the same venue, saving your guests any travel trouble if there is bad weather.
Hotels will have sufficient heating but it might be worth checking that other venues such as marquees or church halls have heating in place. Conversely when the disco starts up it can get rather hot and sticky, check with the venue manager to see if the heating can be reduced in that particular area.
69
Your Wedding Decoration
the fear of getting too hot or weighed down with the extra fabric. Choose a style of dress that has sleeves for extra protection and warmth. 他 sleeves in particular can look very feminine.
There are plenty of ways to decorate your venue to create a warm and cosy atmosphere. With the sun setting early in the winter months, candles and crystals will add to wintery romance to any venue setting. To add to the ambience, consider bringing in lush, soft textures. Deep red velvety roses set amongst dark green foliage such a holly (especially with the red berries) will add a touch of luxury to the setting. Enhance this with wide velvet ribbon which you can tie around napkins or candles centrepieces. You could even tie the ribbon to the chairs and hang themed decorations such a wooden hearts of crystal snowflakes.
Accessories If you still want to wear shoulder-baring strapless gowns or slinky sheaths you will need to think carefully about your accessories so that you can keep warm and avoid shivering your way through your photography session while still looking fabulous in your dress. Envelop yourself in a stole or find a warm shawl or cashmere wrap for a look that exudes a charming winter style and essentially, keeps you warm. Look to the more substantial fabrics such as velvet or faux fur to complement your gown and embellish your winter wonderland look.
What to wear
For shoes, go for a close-toed style (strappy heels could be hazardous in snow) as there might be ice or even worse slush on the ground. Why not have a pair of white boots which will peep out from under you dress but keep you sure footed. You could always change into the heels once you are safely at the reception venue. It may be an idea to have a pair of white snow boots that you can change in and out of to travel between venues - fun for the photographs too!
If ever there was an excuse to use vibrant colours such as forest greens, deep crimsons and brilliant whites then certainly winter is the season to do so. You can also use heavier fabrics such a velvet or sensual silk satins. If you want lace look for the heavier variety like Battenberg lace which is more substantial and will keep you warmer. The best part of winter wedding fashion is that you can indulge in luxurious full skirts without
70
Your Wedding Add gloves for a touch of Hollywood glamour. Choose a colour that complements your flowers or theme. Perhaps dress your groom in a slick suit and add a scarf in the same colour as your gloves to match the wedding colour theme.
Winter Treats Winter weddings give you the opportunity to serve your guests something quite different and very seasonal. Serve an alternative reception drink such a mulled wine served with mini mince pie or Winter Pimms with gingerbread men decorated in white piped icing to resemble the bride or groom. For sheer decadence, serve a white hot chocolate with marshmallow dips. For the favours you could have pots of homemade hedgerow jam for the girls and jars of chutney or pickle for the boys. Or bag up snowflake shortbread biscuits piped in white icing and tied with ribbon your wedding colours. With careful planning you can enjoy all the usual wedding traditions bundled up in a festive winter theme with unique elements to set your wedding apart from the norm. You and your guests will be rosy cheeked, them from the mulled wine and you from the flush of love...

Cancer 21/06 - 21/07
Capricorn 21/12 - 9/01
A sudden burst of cosmic style energy could give your everyday life a kick start that is essential for you to make progress in a special relationship. It looks as if cupid’s arrow is pointing in your direction and love is well and truly in the air.
Don’t be afraid to use your skills of leadership. The planet Neptune entering your birth chart shows that power and control may both become uppermost in your personality at least for the next month or so.
Aquarius 20/01 - 18/02
Leo 22/07 - 21/08
It’s no good standing back and letting others, steal your thunder. You now seem to have a clear pathway to success right in front of you. Perhaps you should allow your confidence to take over whilst you capitalise on the great opportunities that lie ahead.
Brightness and excitement could well and truly replace the erratic and uncertain period of time that you may have been experiencing lately. The intrepid planet Jupiter seems to be firing on all cylinders, and you could be well on the way to positive and major changes. ‘Thinking of moving are we’.
Pisces 19/02 - 20/03 That pernickety Piscean attitude could bring you all that you need to keep going. Your thirst for quality and perfection will not go unnoticed amongst the new circle of friends which are about to surround you. You seem to be raising the game of your life to the next level.
Virgo 22/08 - 22/09 At last you are able to reap the rewards of seeds sown in the past. The position of the planet Mercury suggests that this could be a period of pleasant surprises. Look out for a windfall of money that could come from a very unexpected source.
Aries 21/03 - 20/04 Try not to be bogged down in the problems and complications created by others. This is a time to soldier on and to do things your way. That individual touch and gentle approach, that is such a good part of your nature, will allow you to charm the bird off the trees.
Libra 23/09 - 22/10 Stay cool; keep your head, whilst others close, maybe in conflict with each other. This should give you chance to get on with your life, unhindered and able to ‘make hay’ while the sun shines. The pressure is defiantly off.
Taurus 21/04 - 20/05
Scorpio 23/10 - 22/11
Perhaps it’s better to stay out of the spot light for a while as the pace of your life hots up to break neck speed. Despite the hectic activity ahead the results could be a brilliant financial return and oodles of satisfaction to go with it.
You seem to be heading for a cash bonanza and at exactly the right time too. Perhaps you have developed the ‘Midas touch’, where everything you handle turns to gold. I hope so, Scorpio. It’s about time you got your share of good luck.
Gemini 21/06 - 20/06 Beaurocracy, paperwork and boring applications may surround you at the moment, but whilst form filling continues its worth remembering that whatever it is that you are applying for is likely to be successful as long as you act now.
Sagittarius 23/11 - 20/12 Your brain should by now be awash with original ideas. Don’t you think it’s time to turn some of those golden thoughts into reality? After all you to gain much more from being a ‘doer’, rather than just a thinker.

It’s estimated that over 46,000 children are admitted to hospital every year for tooth extraction with this number rising yearly. Something like three in ten children do not see a dentist which can mean disease sets in from a very early age, often resulting in the need for treatment under general anaesthetic.

Your Jobs
Why I love my Job Florist Carl Pearce tells Jessica Thompson why it’s his dream job and how he has channelled his creativity through his famous window displays.
Florist Carl Pearce The window displays are his passion. Each façade takes months of hard work and planning and it is one of the main reasons why Carl loves his job. He loves the freedom that comes with being creative.
“Three years ago, when I lost my father, I knew that I needed to be there for my mum and other family members. Being in my previous job as a paramedic was very demanding and due to the change of circumstances I needed something that would allow me to work, and spend valuable time with the rest of my family,” he says. Even as a young boy, Carl Pearce has always appreciated the beauty of flowers, learning the unique quality of each variety from his great grandmother, who was also a florist. “When I see the looks on people’s faces, as they receive a personal boutique which we have created for them, or how their faces light up when they see our latest window display, it really makes my job worthwhile,” he says.
“People often stop their cars right outside just to take photographs of the displays,” he smiles.
As the owner of Great Bridge Flowers, Tipton, Carl is at the heart of a vibrant community and you’ll often find his family and friends popping in to see what flowers he has in stock or to admire his much-loved window displays.
“We theme them to coincide with the current season so they are always changing. They take

months of preparation; I started designing and sourcing materials for our Christmas display in June. It will be ready by December but I’ve already had people asking me when the Christmas display will be up.”
Carl thrives on being innovative and he becomes increasingly animated when he talks about the process behind the window displays. “Every year we have a different Christmas theme,” he explains. “Last year we recreated a small village. We went all out with fake snow, little houses and lights; this creation also took six months to complete.” Although he does not want to spoil the surprise, he reveals that the display for this Christmas will take its inspiration from the snowman “I’ve had this idea for a long time now and it’s been so much fun working on it, although it has taken many hours, I know that the results will be worth it,” adds Carl. “I love having visitors coming to see our displays and taking photographs. We’ve even got a seven-foot snowman to put in the window. “Each year we want to give our customers something different and more extravagant, so I think they will be very pleased when they come to view this. I can’t wait until I can reveal the finished arrangement to all of my customers.”

Christmas
As the sun shines at the end of September it doesn’t seem possible that within a few weeks our attention will be turned to winter and Christmas. Even on a sunny day we should start thinking about getting the garden ready to withstand what could be a very cold and hard winter if all the newspapers have got it right! Get some fleece or fleece bags ready to put over tender plants such as Cordylines, Hebes and other semi hardy plants once the frosts arrive. Make sure any diseased leaves from roses and other deciduous plants are cleared up and put into the bin, never on the compost heap. Borders can then be mulched with compost, well rotted manure or bark.
Give them good light during the day and a warm room at all times. Only water when the soil is dry and never stand in water for longer than 10 minutes. For a cooler room the brightly coloured cyclamen is ideal. They require good light at all times. Only water just as the foliage begins to droop and make sure that any excess water is removed after 15 minutes. There’s also the Christmas Cherry with its shiny redorange berries. Azaleas will flourish in either a warm or cool room and are very easy to keep. Freshly cut Christmas trees are available from the end of November. Place in a stand or pot that can be kept moist, as warm temperatures and dry air inside make the tree absorb water very rapidly. Keep away from hot radiators, open fires and TV sets.
So long as there’s no frost in the ground you can still plant bare root hedging, and for winter colour why not add shrubs such as Pernettyas, Skimmias or Sarcoccoa. Also continue planting pansies, wallflowers and winter bedding, the sooner it’s done now the better. November is the ideal month for planting tulip bulbs.
We have a newly designed spectacular Christmas display this year. There’s a vast array of baubles, garlands, lights and cherry blossom trees and if you don’t want a real tree, there’s an excellent range of artificial ones. In the festive light department there’s so much choice today from solar and battery powered to a huge range of electrical sets.
As the end of November approaches, many people start to purchase the traditional Christmas house plants. One of the best is the Poinsettia. It gives instant colour in a room.

Taking control of your own finances
Anita Gatehouse Your Lifestyle’s Financial Expert
Here are my top tips for taking control of your finances. See how many you score.
family peace of mind that liabilities are going to be met.
Above all, have a plan – it’s the old adage: if you don’t know where you’re going, you’ll probably end up somewhere else.
Don’t forget critical illness cover – people in the UK are five times more likely to suffer a critical illness like heart attack, cancer or stroke before 65 than they are to die. Useful to repay a mortgage, fund private medical treatment, or just tide you over during recuperation.
Don’t do it yourself. You don’t know what you don’t know!
Make a will – less than half of the UK population make a will. Even in the simplest of circumstances, having a will reduces the time and the cost needed to deal with an estate.
If you’re going to save, start early – the magic of compound interest means that the first contribution is the most valuable. Take advantage of available tax reliefs – examples are ISAs which grow free of personal taxation, and pensions, which also grow free of personal tax, but also qualify for tax relief on the contributions.
Review your planning – you wouldn’t think of driving 100 miles without checking if you were on course, so why would you treat your financial planning like this?
Clear off expensive debt before saving – you will almost certainly not get as much interest after tax from a bank account as you will be paying on your debt.
Our clients have rated us one of the top advisers in the UK, telephone or email us and we will send you a copy of the testimonials that put us there. If you would like to find out how we might help you, why not arrange a free initial meeting? Get in touch on 01562 745730 and mention Lifestyle magazine.

Here at Sharratts we have a team of experienced professionals to help you through the difficult times following family breakdown. We will look at what options are best suited to your family whether that is counselling; mediation or court based solutions. Each case is different and unique and as such we assess each case on its own merits and find the right tailor made plan for you.
From our experience over the years in speaking to many children caught up in family disputes a common theme is that the children just want those important adults around them to “get on” with each other. They want things to settle and they want their families to talk to each other so that they as children are allowed to be children again and not be caught up in the hostilities.
If tis mediation we can refer you to one of the many mediation services in the Wolverhampton area. Legal funding from the Legal Aid Agency is still available (subject to financial eligibility) for mediation.
Children are often resilient and will adapt to the new family dynamic provided that the adults around them do.
Even if a court based solution is required a Mediation Information & Assessment Meeting (MIAM) will need to be explored as an option

Dudley Motor Company and T Wall Garages Showcase the All New Vauxhall
Astra
Retail Operator for the sites. “With sharp lines, athletic sculpting and the striking curve of the ‘floating’ roof, the design of the New Astra captures the dynamic potential within.
Local Vauxhall retailers, Dudley Motor Company and T Wall Garages, are set to showcase the Britbuilt, all new Astra to customers. Unveiled at the 2015 International Motor Show in Frankfurt last month, the New Astra, which is built at Vauxhall’s Ellesmere Port plant in Cheshire and is up to 200kg lighter than the outgoing model, is smaller on the outside and bigger on the inside, and is significantly more fuel efficient. The dealerships in Dudley and Pensnett are now taking orders for the highly anticipated new model.
“Bigger inside, the New Astra features premium interior and distinctive wheels to further enhance its overall appeal, setting a new standard in the compact-car class. It’s also more fuel efficient than ever before, and we’re thrilled to bring it to customers in the area.” The New Astra features petrol and diesel models, ranging from 100PS to 200PS, including an all new 1.4 litre (150PS) ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo, a four-cylinder unit from the same family as the one-litre, three-cylinder engine seen in the Corsa, ADAM and VIVA.
Equipped with OnStar, the first all new Vauxhall to feature this technology; this includes highspeed 4G LTE mobile network, emergency response notification and stolen vehicle recovery technology. It is also one of the first vehicles from a mainstream manufacturer to get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, available through a new version of the IntelliLink infotainment system.
For detailed information about the New Astra or any of the other models at Vauxhall, please contact Dudley Motor Company at Trindle Road, Dudley DY2 7AY, phone 01384 454 100, website www.dudleymotorco.co.uk. Ford’s all-new EcoSport SUV at Evans Halshaw Ford’s all-new EcoSport SUV offers the optimum combination of small car agility, affordability and fuel efficiency, with the flexibility and space customers expect from a SUV – in one stylish and connected package. The stylish and rugged Ford EcoSport is the first SUV in the world to offer a 1.0-litre engine and is among the first Ford vehicles in Europe available with Ford SYNC with AppLink, enabling drivers to voice-control smartphone apps while keeping their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel. Stylish and practical, the EcoSport has a short bonnet, raked front pillars, and a distinctive five-piece chrome front grille with angular headlamps and signature LED light strips. The EcoSport’s load capacity rivals that of many medium-sized family cars with up to 375 litres available when the rear seats are in place, depending on the rake of the seats.
EcoSport is clever and connected, too, featuring Hill Start Assist, Cruise Control, automatic wipers and headlights, and power front and rear windows. The Ford SYNC in-car connectivity system enables voice-activation of phone calls and music selection from devices connected via Bluetooth or USB.
The EcoSport also delivers a commanding driving position with the driver’s seat height adjustable and the steering column adjustable for both reach and rake. There are 20 smart stowage solutions, including room in the door pockets to store a large drinks bottle, a slide-out drawer under the front passenger seat, and a cooled glove box that can store up to six 350ml drink cans.
Ford SYNC Emergency Assistance will directly connect the vehicle occupants to local emergency services operators after an accident, and crucially, in the correct language for the region.
Sporty and economical, EcoSport is available with the highly-acclaimed turbocharged 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine – three times winner of International Engine of the Year – to deliver performance to rival a traditional 1.6-litre engine, but with significantly better fuel efficiency and lower CO2 emissions.
The Ford EcoSport in Titanium specification costs from £16445.00 It comes with 16in alloy wheels, electronic automatic temperature control and Ford’s KeyFree System, including the Ford power starter button.
Ford SYNC with AppLink will enable EcoSport owners to voice-activate apps, including leading music streaming service Spotify.
A Ford radio/CD with USB & AUX connection, global opening/closing windows, power mirrors, fog lamps and a leather steering wheel and gear shift knob are part of this trim level.
The 125PS 1.0-litre EcoBoost achieves 52.3mpg and 125g/km CO2*. EcoSport also offers a 112PS 1.5-litre petrol engine that can achieve 44.8mpg and 149g/km CO2 specified with a five-speed manual gearbox or with a six-speed automatic gearbox. A 90PS 1.5-litre diesel engine achieves 64.2mpg with 115g/km CO2 emissions.

The New Touran
fastening detection system is used to monitor all seats. The successful spatial concept also ensures that there is enough head and leg room for passengers even in the third row of seats.
Plenty of room for big plans — as well as space for up to seven people to put these plans into practice: The new Touran combines the numerous benefits that made the predecessor model so successful with cutting-edge engine technology and an extensive range of assistance and infotainment systems. In total, more than 50 innovations are waiting to be discovered and experienced. At the world premiere held on 24/02/2015 in Wolfsburg, Germany, trade professionals were delighted to see that the design of the new model has also been enhanced: Seamless glass surfaces amplify the generous sense of space, while the roof line—which slopes towards the rear—gives the vehicle a confident, dynamic look.
So that you can approach every journey with the necessary calm, the new Touran offers a multitude of features to make everyday life easier. Luggage can be stowed away extremely quickly using the optional “Easy Open” function in the new Touran — even when you don’t have a free hand: A simple foot movement underneath the rear of the vehicle is all it takes to unlock and open the boot, which boasts a capacity of 633 litres when the third row of seats are folded down. Passengers can relax while listening to the “Composition Media” radio fitted as standard or one of the optional navigation systems, plus the optional “Car-Net App Connect” function represents one of the most fascinating networking options around. This system allows you to use a whole host of apps that exchange data between the new Touran and your smartphone in order to open up new functions — from practical and informative to entertaining and amusing, there will be a feature to discover that meets your needs. Share in the excitement for the new Touran. After all, family is a tough job — enjoy it.
Despite its compact dimensions and sportier appearance, the latest generation of the Touran has lost none of its versatility and offers a great deal of space for all activities you wish to use the vehicle for. The new Touran is a true seven seater, meaning it doesn’t matter whether a gang of little rascals are looking to use your car for a hideout or whether you fancy taking to the road with six friends — all passengers can enjoy their own full-size seat. Moreover, seats in the second and third row are equipped with “ISOFIX anchor points” as standard, and a seat belt
