I’ve seen the burst of interest in my clients looking for inspiration and concepts to update and redesign the interiors of there homes, I have recently been focusing on home office, living areas and bedroom spaces.

STOURBRIDGE RUGBY CLUB successive defeats which they will be looking to reverse against Crewe and Nantwich at home on December 4th on the occasion of their 20th Anniversary Luncheon. Meanwhile our Colts and Ladies “ Panthers” team remain undefeated.

At the time of writing and prior to our visit to Fylde on December 4th Stourbridge are the only side in National One or Two with a 100% record having played 10 games without defeat. December 11th is a home game against Hull Ionians and December 18th is a short trip to Herefordshire against Luctonians. That game should have been the sixteenth of the season but the vagaries of Covid and Storm Arwen have curtailed the schedule. Our away trip to Loughborough Students on October 2nd was postponed due to positive covid tests and was replayed on November 6th. Unfortunately covid also took it’s toll on October 23rd which coincided with our explayers lunch though we were able to organise a Greyhounds fixture against Walsall for the diners to watch. And then on November 27th Blaydon were travelling from Newcastle only for Storm Arwen to spoil the party meaning that the Blaydon team bus having left early in the morning was turned round at Beverley. The Rotherham game is rescheduled for February 5th and the Blaydon game for March 19th. With last season cancelled in November we experienced the novelty of visiting both Loughborough Students and Bournville neither of which we had ever played previously at their home grounds.

In the Spring we will be hosting British Police games against all the Armed Forces. The Army on January 26th, the RAF on February 16th and The Navy on March 30th all scheduled to kick off at 7.45 p.m. As always the club house is available to hire for functions. DIARY OF A WIMPY KID: BIG SHOT MAKES WAVES IN BIG SCHOOL Students in Years 6 and 7 from Wolverhampton Grammar School had the pleasure of being part of the live audience in Big School, and competition winners from the Junior and Senior School were fortunate to be able to ask Jeff questions about his life and what inspired him to write the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. Intriguing questions were also posed to Jeff from school children as far away as Bristol, Cornwall, Coventry, Nottingham, Swindon and Plymouth. State schools from across the City and the wider West & East Midlands were invited to join the free event as part of the range of projects the School conducts to help inspire reading for pleasure.

International bestselling writer and illustrator of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, Jeff Kinney, visited Wolverhampton Grammar School in November 2021 as part of the UK leg of his global tour to celebrate the release of his new book, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Big Shot. The Diary of a Wimpy Kid Drive-Thru Experience on the evening of Wednesday 17th November saw families from Wolverhampton and cities across the UK enjoy a fun and interactive outdoor experience themed around Jeff’s new book. The experience enabled families to drive through sports-themed scenery and participate in basketball and football challenges before reaching the finish line where Jeff personally delivered signed books and posed for photographs with his fans.

“The virtual event was a huge success and we felt extremely honoured to welcome Jeff to our School as part of his global tour to celebrate the release of his new book.” Zoe Rowley commented.

The following morning, Wolverhampton Grammar School, Puffin Books and Authors Aloud UK organised a virtual event which was live streamed to over 80,000 school children from 800 schools across the country. ROASTED SALMON FILLET WITH GREENS AND BOILED EGGS THIS RECIPE SERVES 6

•

Put a piece of parchment paper on your baking tray and lay the salmon skin side down on that. Season with Maldon sea salt and roast in the oven for about 30 minutes, this can differ depending on the thickness of the salmon.

1k of fresh salmon fillet skin on 9 blue shell eggs 1 packet of tender stem broccoli 1 packet of mange tout 1 small bag of spinach 1 packet of large watercress 1 small bunch of flat leaf parsley 1 bottle of low calorie salad dressing Maldon sea salt

Whilst the salmon is roasting cook the green vegetables for about 1 minute each, remove and plunge into iced water to stop the cooking process, drain and set aside.

With10 minutes roasting time left on the salmon put the eggs carefully into the vegetable water and boil for 6 minutes. Remove and carefully take the shells off under the cold running tap to stop the heat burning your finger tips.

EQUIPMENT:

Roasting tray 1 medium size pan 1 mixing bowl Parchment paper Iced water bath Spider or slotted spoon

Wash the spinach and watercress and spin dry or use a paper towel. Toss with the greens and dress with the salad dressing.

Slice the eggs in half revealing what should be a soft and runny glowing orange egg yolk. To assemble simply put the dressed greens in your salad bowl, place 3 egg halves around and using a spoon pull the flecks of salmon away from the skin and drop into the salad.

Serve with a lovely refreshing glass of naturally carbonated spring water.

Subject to Bermuda remaining on the ‘green list’, consider escaping to this enchanting and tranquil island, which is only a seven-hour flight from the UK. Bermuda lies six hundred miles off the North American coast and offers a perfect retreat where the locals practice that enviable laid back outlook on life.

The islands remained uninhabited for more than a century until colonized by Admiral Sir George Somers, whose vessel the Sea Venture ran aground in 1609 on a voyage bound from England to Jamestown, Virginia. Today, Bermuda continues to attract visitors from all over world. The crystal clear, azure warm waters of the Gulf Stream ensure a temperate climate, which is perfect for those who enjoy sailing, swimming, diving, a spot of fishing or a round or two of golf. It is well known in golf circles that Bermuda has more golf courses per square mile than any other country in the world.

Beyond the beauty of Bermuda is a fascinating and rich history, enhanced by British, West Indian, Portuguese, African and North American influences. The native population is a blend of these countries and the majority of Bermudans can trace their roots to the West Indies and Africa. This hook shaped stretch of land, as recorded by geologists, was created some 100 million years ago as a result of the massive eruption of a volcano. Bermuda is perched on the summit of a submarine mountain rising 15,000 feet from the seabed and is protected by surrounding coral reefs affording protection from natural erosion. Beyond the reef, the ocean bed plunges to a depth of approximately three miles and the shallow inner lagoon remains calm and transparent with a hue of deep azure. Past navigators named the islands ‘Isles of the Devil’ and it is thought that Bermuda was discovered in 1503 by Spaniard Juan de Bermudez, commander of the La Garza.

The island features eight courses in total with seven of these of championship calibre and characterised by breathtaking scenery, dramatic ocean vistas, firm fairways and an unpredictable wind factor creating the perfect challenge. For those who prefer to take things easy, the delicate pink sandy beaches provide the perfect setting for an afternoon snooze or consider a leisurely stroll around the stunning fragrant gardens and pause to admire the splendour of the imposingly grand colonial buildings whilst you consider where to dine. There are plenty of formal chic dining rooms offering international cuisine but for 52

STARTING THE CONVERSATION Does the thought of talking about money make you want to run for the hills, break out in a hot sweat or bury your head in the sand? It might feel like it’s too big a conversation, one that’s far easier to avoid. Here are some tips to help:

It’s not unusual for families to argue about money. There can be a lot of intense feelings, but the important thing is to have a calm conversation about the issues. Try imagining you are explaining the situation to a friend. Tell them how you feel rather than focusing on what they are doing wrong to avoid coming across as critical and accusatory.

1. First, go over your finances and understand what you need help with Perhaps you feel so overwhelmed that you don’t know where to start. It’s important to take the first step. This might be to ask a family member for help or to gather all of the information you will need to start planning.

5. Remember that talking about money can strengthen relationships Talking openly about money can help you to take shared responsibility in deciding how to handle your money and make plans for the future. This can be a positive experience for everyone involved.

2. Be prepared to talk, but also be prepared to listen Understand and acknowledge the other person’s point of view. It’s only by listening that you’ll be clear on what’s important to the other person and be able to make a plan together. A calm exchange of views is a lot better than one person giving their point of view and not giving the other a chance to be heard.

6. Make a plan together Reach an agreement about what to do next and keep talking about it. Occasionally the relief of having talked about money is so overwhelming that people don’t mention it again and don’t really convert words into action. Take the first step together and then keep talking about it.

3. Find a place where you feel comfortable talking If home isn’t the right place to have the discussion, a neutral location is a good idea.

In a marketplace which is awash with SUV type vehicles I was surprised to realise that the Hyundai Tucson had been around for over 17 years, the first arrived back in 2004 and now the 4th generation has been launched and without doubt it is one of the highlights in the Hyundai arsenal of vehicles, writes Bob Hickman.

Even the entry models have reversing cameras, huge digital touchscreen displays, and extensive accident avoidance technology, that having been said that sometimes you do wish you could switch it off such as the lane divert or the bells and whistles that bing and bong when you are a little close to a hedge or somebody is a little closer to you than you would like.

It is available as either a petrol or a mild hybrid, there is not a diesel should that be your forte. The motoring press in general have been quite praise worthy about the Tucson and it is easy to understand why, its exterior shape and ergonomics are never going to upset anyone and it looks quite an attractive vehicle, although a little on the large size.

The extra height of a SUV always gives excellent all round good visibility and from a driving perspective the seats and steering were was adjustable, there was huge amount of extra head, leg and knee room and even rear passengers would not quibble at going on a lengthy journey inside his vehicle.

Safety and security on the Tucson were exceptionally high, there was a whole plethora of air bags all round, there was the blind spot collision warning system, a brake assist system, downhill braking control, a stability control, the list goes on and on in respect of the safety and security features that are included.

I love the factor that the test car had heated front seats, a feature that possibly you don’t require, but boy once experienced you wonder how you managed without it. The technology included in the vehicle, a huge 10.25” touchscreen Satellite Navigation System and it was simplicity in itself, a decent audio system with 8 speakers gave you allround sound add in to the equation Blue Tooth
