Local company helps customer with free install after devastating news “Matt Tingle, who headed up the team, got as many of their lads as possible to get the job done, despite some being on their day off, and they did an absolutely fantastic job. I can’t thank or praise Wolverhampton Glass enough, they are great people.”

When Roland Hunt of Solihull was made redundant unexpectedly he was devastated – and with the last payment of a conservatory roof installation due he was worried that he wouldn’t be able to get the project finished. He need not have worried though. When Wolverhampton Glass, who were doing the install, heard his plight, they did the install for free, much to Mr Hunt’s delight.

Neal said: “It was very upsetting to hear Mr Hunt’s struggles and we all wanted to do something for him. Like some he could have just left us in the lurch with a roof we could do nothing with, but he didn’t, and we are delighted that we could help him.”

“My old plastic conservatory roof desperately needed replacing and after having to push the installation date back to January after a close death in the family, I got an email telling me I was going to be made redundant,” explained the 58-year-old creative artworker. “I was devastated and when I looked at my finances I knew I couldn’t afford to have it fitted.” After explaining to Wolverhampton Glass that he would only be able to pay half now and then the rest to get the roof fitted when he was able to, despite fearing that day may be a long way away, Wolverhampton Glass’ MD Neal Harper phoned him back to say they would install the roof for free. “It was totally unexpected, and I was absolutely over the moon; it really did restore my faith in human kindness,” said Mr Hunt. 12

Chapmans a wider perspective There are many Companies selling electrical products and services across the Blackcountry, but you will have to go a long way to find a company with such a heritage as Chapmans Electrical. Just 3 years away from celebrating their centenary, which is some achievement, they have always been committed to training of young people entering the work place.

Hellen is 24 and one of four children. Her father is disabled and she had to quit school after form 2 as they could not afford school fees. Following support, she completed a grade three tailoring course and with Chapman’s ongoing sponsorship will enter the workforce in 2023.

When the opportunity arose to invest in young people in Kenya by providing training they jumped at it.

Oliver is 24 and one of six children and often had to miss meals whilst growing up. His course is in electrical and electronic engineering at Kisumu Polytechnic. He said “I am the most grateful person because this sponsorship has enabled me to reach my chosen dream and get an opportunity to give back to the community”.

Chapmans partnered with Seas of Life Missions (SOLM), a registered non-profit society established in Kenya, to bring training to those who cannot afford it. So, Chapmans saw the opportunity to invest and help Kenyan youth to obtain life skills with funding for their training, travelling, meals and for some lodgings in various local colleges and universities.

Erick is a 26 -year-old youth one of 4 siblings who lost both his parents when he was 8 years old. His 3 sisters dropped out of school due to lack of money. Despite facing growing up difficulties he finished school as a top performer. Following his sponsorship is now enrolled at the University of Nairobi fulfilling his dream of attaining a BSc. degree in electrical and electronics engineering.

Chapman’s at present support three trainees, here is a snap shot of their lives.

birthmarks, basal cell carcinoma & botox What are birthmarks?

As the name suggests, birthmarks are areas of discolouration on the skin which are present from birth and are often permanent. They may appear in various sizes, shapes, and colours, including red, pink, purple or brown. Birthmarks can occur in any part of the body.

These marks usually disappear by the age of seven. Still, they will become bigger before they shrink and eventually fade away.

What causes birthmarks?

Café-au-lait spots are flat coffee-coloured patches of skin. Most birthmarks are harmless. However, suppose a child has more than six of these marks before they reach the age of five. In that case, it might be a symptom of a genetic condition called neurofibromatosis.

Vascular birthmarks, usually red, pink, or purple, are caused by an abnormality in the skin's blood vessels. Brown pigmented birthmarks are clusters of melanin (pigment) in the skin.

Types of birthmarks

Mongolian spots are a bluish-grey, a bit like a bruise. They are most common in babies with darker skin tones and tend to be on the back or buttocks. These coloured marks usually disappear with time before the child turns four.

Port-wine stain (capillary malformation birthmarks) Port-wine stain birthmarks appear as winecoloured patches on the skin. Caused by abnormal blood vessels and can vary in size. The face is the most common area to be affected, but these can appear anywhere on the body. Most port-wine stain birthmarks are permanent and can become more prominent as we age.

Congenital moles Congenital moles are significant black or brown marks which are present from birth. These are common and caused by clusters of melanin beneath the skin's surface. They can become raised or hairy with time and may change colour during puberty.

Salmon patch birthmarks Salmon patches are the most common type of vascular birthmark. They appear as faint pink or red patches, usually on a baby's face or neck following birth. Salmon patches tend to fade after a few months, but some may take a few years to disappear completely.

Are birthmarks dangerous? Most birthmarks are not harmful and do not require treatment for health reasons. However, some people may find they impact their self-esteem, so they may choose to have them removed for aesthetic reasons.

What is a Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC)? Basal cell carcinoma is a type of skin cancer. Basal cell carcinoma starts in the basal cells — the skin cell that produces new skin as old ones die off. Basal cell carcinoma often appears as a slightly transparent bump on the skin, though it can take other forms. Sun exposed areas of the skin, such as your head and neck, are the most affected. Avoiding the sun and using sunscreen may help protect against basal cell carcinoma.

Choir Celebrates 10 Years of Singing! It seems only 5 minutes since ‘Got 2 Sing’ first opened its doors in Stourbridge, yet the reality is 10 years!

having trained at the London School of Musical Theatre. Parents began asking if they could do something similar. Beth launched Got 2 Sing in Stourbridge in response. An incredible 90 people walked through the door on the first night and it has since gone from strength to strength.

And such a milestone was deserving of a celebration and none could have been more memorable than the Choirs’ recent tour of Cardiff.

Today there are 17 Got 2 Sing Choirs spanning the Midlands, from as far and wide as Lichfield and Worcester to Cheltenham to Telford.

Some 140 singers, plus five choir leaders were spreading the Got 2 Sing joy over the weekend 18th – 20th March. They sang at the Botanic Gardens and Cardiff Castle, St Martins Church and the Senedd Steps in Cardiff Bay, but the highlight of the tour was singing to greet the thousands arriving at the Millennium Stadium prior to the Wales versus Italy match.

The Choirs’ 10th Anniversary celebrations include a 2022 Symphony Hall concert marking their fifth appearance there. Anyone can join - there are no auditions or requirement to read music. SMOKED SALMON & FENNEL RISOTTO Serves 4

METHOD:

Ingredients:

Melt the butter in the pan and add olive oil to help prevent burning. Finely dice the shallots and soften gently in the butter for 15 minutes and then finely slice the garlic and fennel and add to the shallot. Soften for another 5 minutes and then add the rice stirring until rice is coated with butter then add petit pois.

250g Arborio rice 750ml of chicken stock 2 banana shallot 4 cloves of garlic 30g unsalted butter 15ml olive oil 250ml of dry white wine 50g petit pois 1 baby fennel bulb 300g smoked salmon A few basil leaves Cracked black pepper Maldon sea salt

Mix the wine and stock together and keep warm in a separate pan. Ladle the wine and stock in a bit at a time continuously stirring and allowing the rice to absorb the liquid until adding more. The rice needs to be cooked until it still has a little bite but not chalky. A risotto usually takes 20 minutes to cook so keep this in mind when you are trying to work out if cooked. Check seasoning and add a pinch of maldon salt if needed.

When your are ready to serve tear the smoked salmon and fold into the rice with torn leaves of basil. Grate parmesan and sprinkle cracked black pepper over to serve. I prefer my risotto a little less creamy so I don’t always use all of the wine and stock and finish off by placing the lid on the pan to steam to finish.

Prior to the outbreak of Covid19 I was fortunate to visit the captivating City of Luxembourg, at the conflux of the Alzette River and its tributary, the Pétrusse. The capital of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is the only remaining Grand Duchy in the world and one of the smallest sovereign nations in Europe.

recognised as UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1994 ensuring that visitor numbers continue to grow every year. Other attractions include the glorious Palace of the Grand Dukes, parts of which reflect the outstanding beauty of the Flemish Renaissance style, and which dates back to 1572. Adjoined to the palace is the chamber of deputies, which dates back to 1859 and the City Palace, which is connected to the city by a bridge.

Luxembourg shares its borders with France, Germany and Belgium, and Luxembourg City is the site of the ruins of Luxembourg Castle, which sits on a promontory, known as the Bock. The drawbridge, which once linked the rocky outcrop to the city, was replaced by the double storey Pont du Château in 1745 by the Austrians. Records show that the Romans, and later the Franks, built the original fort and a medieval town materialised.

To appreciate how the city has developed into today’s thriving banking and administrative centre I took a stroll around Kirchberg in the north eastern quarter of the capital. Several European Union institutions including branches of the European Commission, the European Court of Justice and the Secretariat of the European Parliament are based in this area.

In 1443 the castle fell to the control of the Burgundians and over the next four hundred years the most highly skilled military engineers transformed the stronghold, which became known as the ‘Gibraltar of the North’. The bastion was strengthened by three fortified rings with 24 forts, 16 additional works of defence, and a network of casemates stretching for 23 kilometres.

Feeing in need of a breather, I headed for the Grund, a precinct located in a valley below the heart of the city along the banks of the Alzette River. A trifle weary, and seeking the easy option, I hopped in the elevator, which descends through the cliff.

After my explorations I was easily persuaded to take an afternoon snooze. The Place d’Armes hotel located on Place d’Armes square, in the centre of the city, offers the highest levels of service. I was most fortunate to secure one of the spacious duplex suites measuring 50 m2. Stourbridge Rugby club By the time you read this we will be in the final throws of our big marquee event which is happening on Friday May 13th and Saturday May 14th. On the pitch the First XV had a very successful year but not quite close enough to earn promotion to National One just two levels below the Premiership. That honour went to Hull RUFC. In their infinite wisdom the RFU have decided to split National Two next year from two leagues of sixteen down to three leagues of fourteen. This means that instead of sitting in National Two North and travelling twice to Newcastle we will be operating in Midlands South West. Our opponents will stretch from as far north as Chester down to Redruth in the depths of Cornwall. Other sides in the league will be Hinckley, Leicester Lions, Bournville, Luctonians, Newport ( Salop), Exeter University alongside two Bristol teams, Clifton and Dings Crusaders and a seaside trip to Barnstaple. By the time of the next edition we will know the fixture list and will be able to plan our trips down the M5. 56

You do not buy a pickup truck like this for superb leach like handling but sufficient to say it is comfortable but you do need to compromise a little as it is a big vehicle, it sways quite a bit, the steering was very user friendly with excellent feedback from the power assistance.

Due to the sheer size of the vehicle the very nice people at Isuzu equipped the vehicle with a reversing camera and also radar at the front so that when you are manoeuvring in to that tight awkward spot you are not in danger of damaging either the vehicle or a fellow car. The price is £33,299 on the road, for the automatic version V-Cross top specification model.

One feature that is a distant memory is a CD player, but one was secreted in the glove box, what a hidden surprise that turned out to be in this day and age where even a USB to connect your mobile phone is sometimes a luxury.

This is no utilitarian vehicle, it has been highly specified with an interior of leather upholstery, wonderful carpets and leather steering wheel all manner of extras which you would not associate with a commercial vehicle, its worth a look.

It feels like the world is in a very uncertain place at the moment. Russia has invaded Ukraine and the West continues to struggle with what is hopefully the back-end of the Covid crisis. Economically, the greatest challenge is soaring inflation, hitting levels not seen for several decades.

• High-quality bonds provide several valuable attributes providing more stable values and supporting a portfolio against equity market falls. • Feeling uncertain about markets is not a valid reason for seeking to get out of markets. It is most unlikely that your financial and personal circumstances have changed to such an extent that you need immediate liquidity from your equity positions.

As a consequence, interest rates and yields on bonds have started to rise and global equity markets have started the year down. That can all feel both gloomy and unsettling but being shaken out of markets based on today’s news is about the worst mistake any long-term investor can make.

One piece of advice would be to try not to look at the news too much. It can feel unsettling and is increasingly full of sensationalist speculation and hyperbole.
