Win tickets to see UB40 announce further UK tour dates for 2015 due to massive demand
Following their sold-out UK tour of 2014, reggae stars UB40 have announced nineteen further dates in May and June. The Brummie legends recently completed the second leg of their ‘Getting Over The Storm’ tour, which has seen UK’s most successful reggae band play over forty UK shows to over 100,000 fans. UB40’s 2015 UK tour dates, which start at Motherwell Concert Hall on Monday 4th and end at Doncaster Racecourse on Saturday 6th June, continues the band’s preference to avoid arena venues in the UK, as founding member and principal songwriter Brian Travers explains: ‘The success of this years tour has confirmed what we already knew, that it’s better to play to 100,000 people across forty intimate venues across the whole of the country rather than playing to the same number of people at six enormous domes in the same cities. It’s a much better experience for both the band and our fans, and we get to play in towns and cities we haven’t visited for many years.’ Fellow UB40 founding member and principal songwriter Jimmy Brown agrees: ‘The atmosphere in the venues on our current tour has been amazing. You can feel it from the stage and it lifts the band to a different level. You rarely get that in an arena. The success of the tour is bound to rankle with UB40’s former lead singer Ali Campbell, who has repeatedly attempted to discredit his former bandmates since he walked out on them in 2008. UB40 founding member Robin Campbell said: ‘Ali has been shamelessly attempting to pass himself off as a “reformed UB40” since the start of 2014, which has confused many of our fans, the media and concert promoters all over the world. We’ve had to issue writs against Ali and two other former members. If they want to be UB40 so badly they should never have chosen to leave UB40 in the first place.’ UB40 formed in 1978, before releasing their debut album ‘Signing Off’ in August 1980, considered by many to be one of the greatest reggae albums ever released by a British band. It was the start of a career that has since seen the band have over forty UK Top 40 hit singles and achieve sales of over 100 million records, making UB40 one of the most successful British groups of all time. The band’s latest Top 30 album ‘Getting Over The Storm’ was awarded BBC Radio 2’s ‘Album Of The Week’ accolade and received 5-star reviews from the UK’s music press on its release in September 2013. Instant join for sports centres
Residents can now make the most of Blackpool’s top class leisure facilities at just the click of a button Blackpool Council’s new ‘Join at Home’ feature now allows any potential gym goers to sign up to a leisure membership online. The move makes it easier than ever for local residents to start getting active. Cllr Graham Cain, Blackpool Council’s cabinet member for leisure and tourism said: ‘In today’s world, where everybody wants everything immediately, it seemed old fashioned to expect people to have to come to the leisure centres to sign up to a new membership. The new ‘Join at Home’ system means that people can start their membership at anytime from anywhere, on their computers at home, or even on their phones and tablets. All four of our leisure centres are excellent quality. We’ve just upgraded the facilities at Moor Park and Palatine while the brand new Gateway

Wild is the Windmill
Little Marton Windmill Receives Its Blue Plaque Blackpool heritage champion Shirley Mathews saw her dream come true on Sunday when Clifton ward councillors Luke Taylor and Adrian Hutton unveiled a blue heritage plaque on the windmill. Shirley has worked for many years promoting the grade 2 listed building which is also a memorial to her grandfather, local author Allen Clarke. With the help of her Friends group Shirley now opens the building to the public one day a month throughout the summer months. It is also available for visits by schools and scout groups. The interior of the mill houses original nineteenth century machinery. Additional displays have been installed explaining the practicalities of milling and the extent of historic windmills throughout the Fylde. 16

Blackpool’s exciting new high ropes adventure course at Stanley Park is beginning to take shape. Experts from JMA Adventure are currently building the eleven metre high structure on land next to Blackpool Sports Centre. The course, which is set to be fun, physical and perfect for team building exercises, educational trips, birthday parties and even just a fun day out, is due to be completed in late April and will open soon afterwards once testing and training is complete. As well as the challenging eight metre high ropes course, there will also be a four metre high “low ropes” course, for participants with less of a head for heights. Fearless participants will face challenges from flying down a zip wire into a cargo net and scaling a rock climbing wall to traversing swinging tyres, a series of challenging bridges and obstacles and an exciting “leap of faith”. Prices will start from just £8 per person and a range of packages will be available, including: Team building and corporate packages for local businesses, Curricular and extra-curricular
activities for schools and colleges, Skill development and team building packages for youth and community groups and Birthday parties for younger and older people. The facility is suitable for anyone aged 5 years and up.

There is an Easter event and egg hunt on Saturday 4th April, from 1am to 3pm at the RSPCA Animal Centre, Old Toms Lane, Stalmine, FY6 0JR See our new centre and attend one of our animal awareness workshops. Activities include an Egg Hunt, Pie & Peas, Coffee/ Tea Van, Face Painting, Easter Raffle, Paint an egg, Name the cat tombola, Microchipping, Cake stall, Jewellery stall. Fun for all the family and helping to raise money for the animals in our care. On April 19th there is a sponsored Dog walk in Garstang from 10:30am for two hours roughly, starting at the Millenium Mosaic. Ring or email the centre for a sponsor form or for more information. On April 10th there are free micro chipping sessions at D&J Petshop on Bond Street, Blackpool FY4 1BW We are a self supporting, independently registered charity and are here to provide care for animals which have been rescued or collected by the RSPCA Inspectors. These animals have often been mistreated, abused, neglected or abandoned by their owners. We have continuing costs to support the new rehoming centre. The day to day care of these animals and the increasing veterinary bills incurred before they can go to new homes is a huge cost to the branch. We are hoping that your business will kindly consider supporting us by sponsoring a kennel or cat pen. Raven was rescued by one of the RSPCA Inspectors after she was found

Raven as a stray in a poor condition. She is an independent lady who is on the look out for a quiet home without children and where she will be the only pet. She does need an understanding owner who will take the time to build up a bond with her. Raven does like to be stroked and is becoming much more tolerant since she arrived at the centre in December. As we don’t have any history on her, we are unsure of exactly old she is but are estimating her to be 7 to 10 years old. When Raven was found, she had a skin condition which has since improved but an old injury to one of her back legs means she doesn’t walk like your average although she is not in any pain with it. We do believe that she is quite stressed and unhappy in the cattery so think a permanent foster home would be ideal for her. A permanent foster home means that the branch will cover any medical costs and will ensure that booster vaccinations, flea treatment and wormers are also provided. t any one time, you are never more than a couple of clicks away from thousands and thousands of differing opinions on how you HAVE to do or not do your wedding day. So what makes this article different? Well, not a lot really...although I’ll make it clear that the below do’s and don’ts are just my views and by all means if you want to ignore it all and do it your way, that’s the joy of it being YOUR day. But should you want some guidance, digest all of the below taking it all firmly with a pinch of salt!
DONT - get yourself unnecessarily into debt over that
one day. The legal part of your day lasts about ten minutes, can you really justify spending the next few years paying offthe rest of it? Ask yourself if those silky chair covers that are adding an extra £500 to your budget will be memorable enough to be

paying for them still in a year’s time. The look in your partner’s eyes when you say ‘I do’ is a moment you’ll remember forever AND is free. As tempting as it is, try and ensure you keep the day realistically within your means. Married life starting in debt is an added strain you don’t need.
DO - remember that the term ‘perfect day’ should only
apply to the bride and groom, whatever ‘perfect’ may mean to you. If this means an underwater scuba diving wedding, go for it. If this means having a first dance to a heavy metal track, why not? A wedding day is for two people to come together in whatever way they want. To the friends who tell you ‘you can’t do that on a wedding day,’ smile politely and tell them not to do it on theirs! You’ll never please every guest, so just concentrate on making it perfect for you.
