Make your will in the comfort of your own home

WHO ARE WE and WHAT CAN WE DO FOR YOU? Just Wills and Legal Services Ltd is one of the largest provider of Wills, Estate Planning and Probate Services in the country. We evolved from the Just Wills Group, Allguard Legal Services Ltd, In Home Legal Services Ltd and Legal Services UK Ltd, together we have given individual advice to over 250,000 satisfied customers. You can be sure that you are in safe hands. For your added peace of mind, we hold substantial Professional Indemnity insurance. We are members of The Society of Will Writers and the Professional Association of Legal Services. Our documents are also compliant with the IPW code of Practice. (Institute of Professional Will Writers) To make it as easy as possible for you to make your Will, David Procter who is a partner in the Business and who lives locally, can visit you in your own home at a time to suit you and help you decide which type of Will best suits your needs and your wishes.

Our documents are produced by a team of specialists and expert Lawyers, We also have STEP Qualified Solicitors to support and advise. Additionally we have a wide range of Trust experts for those unusual situations that arise from time to time. There are many types of Wills. Many people have a basic or standard Will, this can express your wishes but, unfortunately, offers no protection of your estate ie. home and savings. Alternatively, a powerful comprehensive Will and good planning could help prevent unnecessary loss of your children’s inheritance to care authorities, inheritance tax and others. This gives you peace of mind that you have done all you can to ensure that those you love receive the maximum possible inheritance from you. We also offer a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) so that you can appoint somebody now whom you want to look after your affairs in the future should you ever become ill or incapacitated and were unable to do so yourself. This service is highly recommended to all our clients and is extremely useful for small business owners and partnerships as the alternative to not doing an LPA is often expensive and extremely stressful, and in many cases will involve the Court of Protection (OPG) We have drafted many thousands of Wills for people from all walks of life. We will be delighted to help you and your family achieve YOUR peace of mind.

Accident Prompts Machine Safety Inspection Councillor Paul Walmsley, centre, with manager Robert Duckworth, left, and second chef Waheed Khan with the new pizza dough roller.

An accident in which a woman trapped her hand in a machine she was using to roll pizza dough prompted an inspection of all premises across Chorley that use such machines The woman was feeding pizza dough into the machine when she became trapped and had to be freed by the fire and rescue service suffering a fractured finger and requiring stitches. This accident, which revealed the machine’s rollers were unguarded, resulted in Chorley Council inspecting all premises in the borough that use such machines to ensure they have guards on. Councillor Paul Walmsley, who oversees health and safety services for Chorley Council, said: ‘The accident was in another authority but when it was brought to our attention that it was common practice for the guards to be removed from the rollers, we immediately sent out letters to all food premises warning them not to use the machines if there were no guards on and we followed this up by inspecting the premises.’ The council targeted 37 food premises and 23 were found to be operating pizza dough rollers. Of these 17 machines (74 per cent) were unguarded.

One business which took action immediately it received the initial letter from the council was Papa Luigi’s Italian Restaurant in Euxton. Manager Robert Duckworth said: ‘As soon as I got the letter I checked our machine and found it had no guards on the rollers and so was not up to standard. We immediately bought a new one because the safety of our employees is paramount. We’ve been doing a lot of work with the council on a number of issues, and have received help and advice and I’m delighted to say that it has resulted in us achieving a 5 star rating which we’re very proud of.’ Councillor Walmsley added: ‘The quick action taken by Papa Luigi’s in respect of the pizza dough roller sets an example to all. We pride ourselves on working with businesses to provide advice and support, but we also want to reassure employees that we would take enforcement action against employers if they put their health and safety at risk.’ If any business needs advice and support on any health and safety issues, they should

contact Chorley Council on 01257 515151

This resulted in: • 10 prohibition notices being served which meant the machines could not be used • 6 were resolved within 24 hours • 1 machine was removed from use

Win tickets to see UB40 announce further UK tour dates for 2015 due to massive demand

Following their sold-out UK tour of 2014, reggae stars UB40 have announced nineteen further dates in May and June. The Brummie legends recently completed the second leg of their ‘Getting Over The Storm’ tour, which has seen UK’s most successful reggae band play over forty UK shows to over 100,000 fans. UB40’s 2015 UK tour dates, which start at Motherwell Concert Hall on Monday 4th and end at Doncaster Racecourse on Saturday 6th June, continues the band’s preference to avoid arena venues in the UK, as founding member and principal songwriter Brian Travers explains: ‘The success of this years tour has confirmed what we already knew, that it’s better to play to 100,000 people across forty intimate venues across the whole of the country rather than playing to the same number of people at six enormous domes in the same cities. It’s a much better experience for both the band and our fans, and we get to play in towns and cities we haven’t visited for many years.’ Fellow UB40 founding member and principal songwriter Jimmy Brown agrees: ‘The atmosphere in the venues on our current tour has been amazing. You can feel it from the stage and it lifts the band to a different level. You rarely get that in an arena. We’re never happier than when we are on stage; we are a working band, it’s what we do.’ The success of the tour is bound to rankle with UB40’s former lead singer Ali Campbell, who has repeatedly attempted to discredit his former bandmates since he walked out on them in 2008. UB40 founding member Robin Campbell said: ‘Ali has been shamelessly attempting to pass himself off as a “reformed UB40” since the start of 2014, which has confused many of our fans, the media and concert promoters all over the world. We’ve had to issue writs against Ali and two other former members. If they want to be UB40 so badly they should never have chosen to leave UB40 in the first place.’

To be in with a chance of winning 2 fantastic tickets, simply answer this question correctly: Where does the band name UB40 come from? Answer

UB40 formed in 1978, before releasing their debut album ‘Signing Off’ in August 1980, considered by many to be one of the greatest reggae albums ever released by a British band. It was the start of a career that has since seen the band have over forty UK Top 40 hit singles and achieve sales of over 100 million records, making UB40 one of the most successful British groups of all time. The band’s latest Top 30 album ‘Getting Over The Storm’ was awarded BBC Radio 2’s ‘Album Of The Week’ accolade and received 5-star reviews from the UK’s music press on its release in September 2013.

The Leader of Chorley Council, Councillor Alistair Bradley (centre), Charles Jackson, Vice Chairman of British Cycling and Lesley Pape, Deputy Chief Executive Secretary & Treasurer of Chorley Building Society launch the Chorley Grand Prix at the proposed start and finish line on Park Road, Chorley.

The Chorley Grand Prix This month Chorley welcomes the country’s top cyclists and the whole of the Chorley borough is being urged to get involved and cheer them on On Saturday 4 April, the Chorley borough will kick start the British Cycling Elite Road Race Series for 2015 with the Chorley Grand Prix, which is being organised by Chorley Council and British Cycling with sponsorship from Chorley Building Society. The prestigious race will start and finish on Park Road in Chorley town centre before the cyclists take on a five lap 115 mile route through Chorley, Limbrick, Rivington, Belmont, Abbey Village, Withnell, Brinscall, Wheelton, Buckshaw Village and back to Chorley. Local people are being urged to get creative and show their support for the cyclists in a number of ways including: • Knitting features along the route. • Baking bicycle-themed cakes for fellow spectators. • Decorating and displaying old bicycles on their own property. • Taking part in the numerous bicycle activities in the Chorley Council cycle village on Park Road. •Taking part in the Sky Ride Locals which are listed at goskyride.com/chorley • Asking your local school to create a welcome flag or cycle art project. • If you’re a business, decorating your shop window or creating a special Chorley Grand Prix offer or menu, and finally... • Lining the route to cheer the cyclists on. Councillor Alistair Bradley, Leader of Chorley Council, said: ‘The Chorley Grand Prix will be a fantastic occasion for everyone but in particular for our local communities. Over 100 top cyclists

from many of the country’s leading cycling teams have entered the race so far, so it is important that we give them a fantastic Chorley welcome. We want to create a real community atmosphere right along the route and we can only do that if residents and businesses get involved and show their support. On the day we will have a cycle village on Park Road where there will be entertainment and cycling activities but it would also be great to see Chorley’s creativity on display like other towns have done. If you’re a business, think about dressing your shop window or organising a Chorley Grand Prix special offer or menu and if anyone has an interest in knitting or crocheting, we’re organising some courses to help you create a display and mark the occasion. This is the first time we’ve hosted a British Cycling Elite Road Race and we would like to make it an occasion to remember for everyone.’ Anyone attending the Chorley Grand Prix or travelling in the area on Saturday 4 April is being reminded that there will generally be rolling road closures in place as the cyclists go past. However, Park Road and one side of Sheep House Lane and Rivington Road will be permanently closed to west-bound traffic for the day, meaning there will be parking and traffic restrictions in place as well as diversion routes in these areas. For more information on the Chorley Grand Prix and ways you can get involved, visit chorley.gov.uk, like Chorley Council on Facebook or follow @ChorleyCouncil

Giving you the ‘Power to Switch’ A new campaign to help people cut the cost of their fuel bills has been launched by Chorley Council It follows the success of a similar scheme last year which saw 97 Chorley households save more than £18,400 between them just by switching energy supplier. Councillor Graham Dunn, who oversees the welfare of residents for Chorley Council, said: ‘Since May last year, an independent expert has been coming into the council offices to help people find the best energy deal for them and to take them through what can, for some, seem quite a complicated switching process. This has meant that those who have switched energy supplier have seen their energy bills cut by an average of £193 per household - more than 17 per cent - which is fantastic. Now we’ve got funding towards a new campaign, Power to Switch, offering even more people the chance to take advantage of the most competitive energy market we’ve ever had, to save even more money. This means we can extend the free service we offer to all energy bill payers, home owners and tenants of rented property. We currently have an independent advisor coming into the civic offices in Union Street two days a week so that more people can make an appointment to see her. There are so many good

deals around now with energy prices have dropped so much over the last year that she can help find the best deal for you and take you through the whole switching process if you choose to switch.’ The council also operates a call-back system to make sure the switch goes smoothly. Should there be any issues at all, the council by staying involved until the switch is complete, can ensure they can be resolved with the least upset for the customer. For those people who want to learn more about the internet and to find out how to switch, the council’s advisor can teach them which sites to use with confidence and help them get the best deals using their own laptop or tablet. To book an appointment or to find out more, please phone the council’s home improvement agency team on 01257 515151.

Hundreds of business people from across Lancashire enjoyed the latest Choose Chorley event that saw an Olympic gold medallist speak about setting goals and overcoming obstacles enabling him to reach the pinnacle of his sport.

Chorley Council teamed up with leading motor dealers the Chorley Group to put on the inspiring event with attendees taking away fantastic advice from sprinter Darren Campbell. The Nissan ambassador spoke about how ‘you have got to dream above your station to succeed’ and showed how his experience in sport could be harnessed in business. Councillor Alistair Bradley, Leader of Chorley Council, said: ‘We know that Chorley is a great place to do business and one of the reasons for that is having a really supportive business community. The events we put on help everyone keep up-to-date with what’s happening across the borough and to network with each other and make new contacts. Inviting someone like Darren to speak at the event is a great motivation to everyone and it brings extra attention that helps to put Chorley on the map.’ The annual ‘Choose Chorley’ business event is the biggest business networking evening of the year and offers an opportunity for businesses of all sizes to network, get to know each other and also meet the Council. The evening also featured a Question Time style panel chaired by Dave Guest from BBC North West Tonight with interesting debates on attracting new businesses to the area, Chorley’s retail offer and the potential for developing businesses locally to be leaders in their field. Joining Councillor Bradley on the panel were Colette Hart from Anise, Andrew

Jones from TVS Supply Chain Solutions, Adam Turner from The Chorley Group, and Chorley MP Lindsay Hoyle. The Chorley Group, which was born in Chorley and has since become a £100m turnover business operating Nissan, Fiat, Kia and Hyundai franchises through five dealerships across the North West, supported the event with Darren Campbell one of Nissan’s sporting ambassadors. Andy Turner, Managing Director and founder of the Chorley Group, said: ‘It was great to listen to Darren and I could honestly relate to what he had to say about the hurdles he has faced on the way to success. It really struck a chord. I’m sure most people were able to take something away that we can use in our own business. We’re really proud to be associated with Chorley and it’s great to see such prestigious events being held here because it can only help with the profile of the area and show that Chorley is a great place to do business. We met plenty of new faces on the night and it was really encouraging to see how many diverse and successful businesses we have here in the borough.’ The event is one of many the council puts on to support existing and new businesses in the area. It was also kindly supported by Whittle Jones, Evander Properties, Orbit Developments, Poppy Signs, the Royal Bank of Scotland and Runshaw Business Centre. Taking the Lead on Dog Fouling

Talented youngster Libby Roberts is hoping her art work will help improve the area around her school. Eight-year-old Libby is a pupil at Euxton Primrose Hill Primary School which took part in a competition to design a poster to encourage dog owners to pick up after their pets. The competition was held in conjunction with Chorley Council after officers went into the school to talk to, and work with pupils, about responsible dog ownership as part of the Don’t Mess with Chorley campaign and neighbourhood working. Libby’s poster which urges people to ‘Take the lead - clean up after your dog’ was the winning design and it is that design which is now featured on posters displayed on lamp posts in the area. Councillor Adrian Lowe, who heads the Don’t mess with Chorley campaign for Chorley Council, said: ‘Libby’s design was bright, colourful and clever which is just what you need for a poster. I’m sure it will have an effect and remind people that they need to clean up after their pets. The vast majority of dog owners are responsible and do what they are supposed to do, but there’s a minority of people who don’t and this means that dog fouling can be a real problem in some areas, plus it can also be dangerous to children.’

Libby Roberts is pictured with headteacher Mr Gareth Caunce, left and Councillor Danny Gee holding the posters she designed.

Vice-chair of school governors and ward councillor Danny Gee said: “The children at the school did an amazing job designing some excellent posters. The whole school voted for which ones they wanted to see on display at the library and those displayed were voted for by members of the public. Over 320 people went in and voted and Libby’s design was chosen as the winner.”

We meet every Thursday, from 7:00pm until 11:00pm in the upstairs youth room of St Mary’s Parish Centre. The aims of our club are simple: to play tabletop wargames, of any type, and to give our members somewhere spacious and friendly in which they can do just that, and to promote our hobby in a positive way within the local community. Also, through the forums on our site and through the club itself, to encourage our members to try different game systems and help them with the collecting and painting of miniature armies. We play, most frequently, Warhammer 40k, SAGA, and HORDES/WARMACHINE, but we are by no means limited to just these, there is interest enough within the club for games of any type, from any producer, such as Blitzkrieg Commander, Mordheim, Necromunda, Epic, Warmaster, Hail Ceasar, Pike & Shotte, to name but a few and would welcome the opportunity to play such games with new members. With this in mind, we welcome any and all who may want to come along and meet us at the club, or to contact us for more information. www.cack-wargamesclub.net

CHORLEY TRADITIONAL MUSIC SESSIONS

We are a group of local folk musicians who are keen to help up and coming local musicians get some experience of playing their instruments in a (semi) public environment. We do this by running a monthly ‘Slow and Steady’ session in a local community hall on a Saturday afternoon. The session is run by an experienced musician who understands the problems and needs of budding players, and makes sure that the music played is suitable for those who are learning. This is held at Eaves Green Community Centre on the first Saturday of every month. The session costs £2 which includes a set of music (if required) and tea and biscuits. We do not charge for your first visit. The main cost is the hire of the hall. The session runs from 2:00 until 5:00. We cater for most of the common folk instruments and specifically have experienced players for Whistle, Fiddle, Melodeon (G/D), Concertina (English and Anglo), Guitar, Banjo and Mandolin. Other instruments can be accommodated as long as they play in the common folk keys (primarily G and D, perhaps A). We have contacts all over the North West, and could certainly find friendly help for most other instruments.
