15 mins preparation 25-30 mins cooking time
Ingredients 500g (leftover) cooked turkey, cut into chunks 400g (leftover) cooked mixed vegetable, cut into chunks 3-4 large sweet potatoes, cooked and mashed 100g (leftover) cheese, grated 50g flour 350ml stock approx Honey 2tbsp cranberry sauce Nutmeg Spinach, watercress, cabbage (any or all of them optional) Cayenne pepper, smoked paprika, curry powder (any or all of them optional) Cracked black pepper 3- 4 garlic cloves crushed 5 sprigs of thyme

Preparation Over a medium heat, place the flour in a pan, add a little of lukewarm stock and mix well. Pour over ½ of the boiling stock and stir well until all the lumps have disappeared. Carry on adding more stock and cooking until the desired thickness is reached. Add the cranberry sauce, nutmeg and a little honey, adjust the seasoning. Add the sauce to the turkey and vegetables and gently mix. At this stage you can add spinach, cabbage and/or watercress. Pour in an ovenproof dish. Season the sweet potatoes with the spices of your choice add the cheese if used and place over your pie. Decorate with the garlic and thyme before cooking in a preheated oven 160°C for 25-30 minutes or until the pie is piping hot and the topping is light golden.

Flying Start for Fleetwood RUFC Under 8s The 2013/14 season has had a tremendous start with a combination of training and friendly matches against local sides. Our enthusiastic squad of players and coaches have already welcomed teams from Garstang, Tarleton, Fylde and Burnley and have travelled to Garstang for their first away game. Fleetwood RUFC has a Mini Section dedicated to the development of rugby skills in boys and girls in each of the age groups up to 12. In the Under 8s, membership is growing and our youngest member of the squad is just 4 years old. All coaches are fully

trained, uphold the values of the RFU and are DBS checked (formerly CRB). Training happens at 10.30 each Sunday morning during the season at the Club’s Melbourne Avenue pitches. Those with toddlers should explore charity shops for quality second-hand toys in good condition. Clean them up, wrap them in Christmas paper and they'll never notice the difference. Toddlers are often far more interested in the wrapping paper anyway! For older children, splash out on a board game. It'll keep them entertained over the winter and will also occupy the whole family on Christmas Day.
And if that Christmas card list is making you feel guilty, send e-cards instead. It's more eco-friendly and you'll save money on cards and stamps. Or alternatively you could get the kids involved in making some. It's also worth taking advantage of the 'three for two' deals on offer in many shops. CHRISTMAS Speak to friends and relatives and agree a limit as to how much you're going to spend on each other and each other's kids. If you have a big family, maybe only buy for the children - adults aren't going to mind when money's tight. You can save even more by making your own presents - and friends and family will love the personal touch. Try knitting a scarf, cook or bake something delicious and tie it up with a beautiful bow, or ask one of the children to paint a masterpiece and have it framed.
Let the little ones help make your own edible decorations, such as gingerbread Santas or star-shaped biscuits decorated with edible silver beads. They'll look fantastically festive and will keep children happy when they're in need of a sweet treat!
Get the kids involved with making the Christmas decorations this year. Dig out glitter and shiny paper from old craft boxes in the toy cupboard or stock up on tinsel, glue and paper chains from Poundland. Try sewing popcorn on to thread for a rustic mantelpiece decoration or scour your local park for pine cones and use them as decorations at the base of candles or in pot pourri - you can even jazz them up with gold or silver spray.

You may have splashed out on festive outdoor lights - but don't leave them on all night! Just a couple of hours in the evening will do, to get everyone in the mood. Inside, replace regular lights with energy saving ones. LED lights use less energy than conventional Christmas ones.
If you want to go out, head for the nearest green space or beach to blow the cobwebs away on Christmas Day. Your library should list local walks and other events to keep the family amused. Try not to let your heating bill blow the budget: Turn your thermostat down by one degree. It may not sound like much but could cut your heating bills by up to 10 per cent. Keep the curtains closed when you go to bed to keep the heat in and use draught excluders by the front door to keep the cold air out.
Look for budget family days out with English Heritage (englishheritage.org.uk) too, where kids can listen to storytellers or take part in Christmas craft making. Alternatively, if you can't stand the thought of cooking, find a half-price restaurant meal deal from toptable.co.uk and let someone else worry about the washing up!

Fleetwood & Cleveleys Lions Club Report
40th Anniversary Charter Dinner Fleetwood and Cleveleys Lions Club was Chartered on the 14th August 1973. On Saturday 9th November 2013 the Club celebrated its 40th Charter Anniversary at the North Euston Hotel Fleetwood Lion President Carole O’Brien made the Toast to Lions Club International and PDG Lion David Seager replied. Charter Member Donald Macdonald made the Toast to Partners and Guests and the Mayor Councillor John Hodgkinson replied. PDG Lion James E Woods (MC) then presented Lion Donald with a Fleetwood Football Shirt with his name on the back. Scottie provided the Music and the Euston an excellent meal. Over 100 people, from various Lions Clubs enjoyed a super evening, plus one of our guests received a Birthday Cake, marking his 85th Birthday. Everybody went home happy with an evening to remember. THE HIGHS AND LOWS OF RACING AP McCoy.....A True Legend
I
t was a cold and damp Monday the 13th November 2006 and we made the 6 hour round trip to see ‘Ever Special’ a 3yo bay gelding run a 2m seller at Leicester. He was trained by Patrick Haslam and was the first horse we had ever been involved with as Owners, the day was made even more special as today he was being partnered by the champion jockey AP McCoy. As he didn’t have a ride in the previous race we were lucky enough to be joined by the champ a good 1/2 an hour before the off and and first I was a bit shocked that he was tipping his hat to us and calling us ‘sir’ every time he spoke. But it is a strict protocol that every jockey must follow when addressing owners and even though we told him there was no need he insisted on following the rules. We then followed him into the parade ring and before getting the leg up he gave us his opinion on every rival and told us his plan for winning the race today. He knew the course well and as they would be told to take a final turn by the starter before the tapes went up, he was going to try and nick a good position which would hopefully steal him a couple of lengths at the start. He then went on to say that if he jumped the first in front there would be no looking back. We wished him well and went and took our positions in the viewing gallery. What unfolded next was a carbon copy of everything AP had told us, he nicked a couple of lengths at the start by grabbing a good position as
they took a final turn and he jumped the first in front and never looked back going on to win eased down by an impressive 5L. Afterwards he told us to turn the horse out again quickly as there was another win in him, this is something we did 5 days later where again he sauntered home to an easy victory at Towcester. He also told us he had another ride in a later race and to make sure we backed it, we followed his instructions and it duly obliged for us winning easily. What struck us most about that day was although it was only a minor meeting on a damp Monday at Leicester and we were not exactly the biggest owners he would be dealing with, was the methodical detail in which he studied every aspect of the race and how he carried out the plan perfectly. This is in my opinion why he has been champion jockey in every year he has been involved 18 in total and why the fact he’s just ridden his 4,000 winner should be recognised as such a great achievement. Well done Tony McCoy!!! Bringing culture, heritage and the community together We are Fleetwood Community Interest Company. We all live or work in Fleetwood and want to kick start an exciting regeneration of our often forgotten and overlooked fine old fishing port. We plan on providing an Arts, Heritage and Community Centre where people can meet, learn, work and be entertained in a creative community space. We hope to build on this further by working with local councils, schools, organisations and venues to provide a wide range of activities, services and events that together will form a new cultural quarter which the people of Fleetwood will help to shape and be proud of. FY7 Community Beat Hello I like getting to this time of year because it means all the planning, preparation and execution of the October half term holidays, Halloween, Bonfire Night and all the mischief nights in between are as far away from us as they possibly can be….. before it all starts again!! So, what can I report… well it’s been pretty good really, people have taken notice, incidents have been relatively low, particularly in relation to Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB). The Fireworks Extravaganza at the Marine Hall was a resounding success. There were no incidents reported to police concerning ASB in the area and the number of people flocking to the seafront was amazing to see for the town. The organisers did another amazing job and speaking to many people on the night I wasn’t the only one of that opinion!! Sporadic incidents of criminal damage to buildings and motor vehicles continue to be an area of concern. Kids congregating in the Marine Hall grounds are linked to an increase in damages to this iconic building which is repeatedly having windows smashed etc. If you are in the area please report anything you think suspicious to us immediately. We have increased our patrols in this area, but it is not possible to be there at all times and we are liaising with Wyre Council on ideas to increase the security of the area. Do your kids hang around this area? Do you know what they are up to? Who with? Till what time? As we roll out our plans and operations for the Christmas period, a whole new set of challenges face us.
