Exclusive park home arrives at Willowgrove Leisure Park & Fishery
After its unveiling at the Caravan and Motorhome Show earlier this year, the Lissett Oasis, a unique and prestigious new home, has been positioned on Barton Park Homes’ Willowgrove Leisure Park & Fishery, a beautiful leisure park in the village of Preesall, close to the Fylde coast. The luxurious 42ft x 20 lodge was built exclusively for Barton Park Homes by leading manufacturers Lissett. This one-of-a-kind home was named the Oasis as it has been destined for a sought-after lakeside plot on Willowgrove since its conception. Barton Park Homes has worked with Lissett Homes for many years, offering its range of quality-built and elegant homes on its eight parks across the country. The home was one of the star attractions of the Caravan and Motorhome Show in Manchester as visitors were welcomed to sample the space and luxury of the Oasis after its official unveiling by Barton Park Homes Managing Director Charlie Barton Jnr and Willowgrove Sales Consultant Glenda Miziura.
“This is a striking and luxurious home, built to exceptional standards by one of the UK’s most renowned park home builders. It attracted a lot of attention at the show and whoever decides to purchase it will be the envy of the entire park”, said Charlie Barton Jnr.
Inside the distinctive and specially treated solid wood exterior visitors found state of the art fittings, finishes and appliances that distinguish the Oasis as one of the most prestigious homes available at the moment.
As well as being close to the picturesque seaside village of Knott End-on-Sea, Willowgrove boasts a fullystocked CEFAS registered fishing lake, nature reserve, and soon to be completed bowling green and pavilion.

The highs and lows of moving house
---------------------------After years of stagnation, the housing market at last appears to be starting to move again with average house prices also rising over the last twelve months.
Thankfully, it is not just a London based phenomenon, but most regions in the country are seeing an improvement. The Fylde Cost is no exception and at Fylde Law Solicitors, we are pleased to see this reflected in the number of client instructions.
removal of HIPS from the housing market a couple of years ago has meant that it is now cheaper to place a house on the market. Less serious sellers are able to dip their toes into the housing market and pull their property out of the deal, if they change their mind about the price they have agreed. The buoyancy of the rental market has also meant that some sellers decide to withdraw their properties and to rent them instead. The second biggest reason for a housing transaction collapse is that the buyer pulls out of the purchase voluntarily. This accounts for roughly 25% of completion failures. The reason for this are not always clear, but there is still a slight nervousness in the housing market about the stability of house prices, which when combined with lingering economic uncertainty and concerns about job security mean that buyers sometimes get cold feet.
The problem of house sale collapse still continues however and according to our statistics at Fylde Law, up to one in three house sales collapse before the transaction is completed. Dizzy Heights is a celebration of the town aiming higher, serving as the official launch of the £1.5m Five For Fleetwood scheme. People are invited to pack the Esplanade on Saturday 24 May and while they enjoy five hours of festivities, they can learn more about Wyre Council’s plans to transform the area with a skate park, splash zone, boats on Marine Lake, a refurbished Euston Gardens and more besides. Most of the festival’s focus takes place around Marine Hall Gardens and the Esplanade, which will be closed to traffic. One highlight will be a display by La Quebrada, the Mexican high diving company who caused a splash on Britain’s Got Talent. They intend to attempt a world record towards the end of the event, definitely one not to be missed.

Local bands will perform live throughout the afternoon while families test their head for heights on a zip wire and climbing walls. Look out for hilarious street theatre, arts and crafts workshops and plenty of food and drink. And to mark the fact that Fleetwood is really going places, a land train will operate along the promenade. Councillor Peter Gibson, Leader of Wyre Council, said: ‘We have some lofty ambitions for Fleetwood that we can now fulfil thanks to the Coastal Communities Fund. What better way to showcase our plans than a festival that invites the whole community to make the most of their seafront and celebrate with us.’ Dizzy Heights runs from noon to 5pm. Any local businesses wanting to be involved in the event can do so via http://dizzyheights.eventbrite.co.uk

Community funding up for grabs in Wyre A pot of cash is now available to fund community projects that will make a difference to local people or their surroundings. Under Wyre Council’s Shaping Your Neighbourhood initiative, the borough has been split into six areas and each of these will be allocated £10,000 in 2014/15. Bids for a share of the funding are now being accepted from community groups who can show that their idea will have a lasting and positive effect on their neighbourhood. The council is specifically looking for projects to address a local need, as identified in each of its locality plans. Schemes that have benefited from previous Shaping Your Neighbourhood funding include a number of new children’s playgrounds, improvements to key footpaths in the rural area, refurbishment and improvements to community buildings and courses that bring families together. Councillor Peter Gibson, Leader of Wyre Council, said: ‘Very often it’s little changes that make a huge difference to community life, so we’ve set aside this money specifically for projects just
like this. The money is obviously a big bonus for the successful projects, but a key element of Shaping Your Neighbourhood is also to give our residents a real opportunity to get involved in local decision making. Last year when we offered this funding there was a great response, so we’re looking forward to seeing what innovative ideas our communities come up with this time around.’ Each area has a lead member responsible for deciding where the money is spent: Cleveleys: Councillor Andrea Kay Fleetwood: Councillor Paul Treece-Birch Poulton: Councillor Lesley McKay Rural East: Councillor Lady Dulcie Atkins Rural West: Councillor Julie Robinson Thornton: Councillor Don MacNaughton All are happy to talk to potential applicants about their projects. Details of how to apply are available at wyre.gov.uk/syn. Closing date is 31 May.

FY7 Community Beat Fleetwood has seen some serious incidents of anti-social behaviour these past few months. There has been a core group of youths who have been involved in most of these serious cases and have rightly been prosecuted. Where offences have not been so clear, we are taking action to apply for ASBOs to stop their behaviour where all other measures have failed. It is very disappointing to know that such a small minority of kids can cause such far reaching damage, not only physical damage of property, but to people’s lives within the community. They have caused misery to their victims repeatedly. Only this week the Club2Go Youth Bus on Martindale Park has decided to move their event from a Saturday evening to the daytime for the Easter holidays because of the drunken behaviour of a few. This was a really well attended event for kids of all ages, at a time in the week best suited to all. It cannot be the case that parents simply don’t notice that their 13 or 14 year old son or daughter returns home at midnight or later completely drunk. Parents need to take responsibility for their children at all times; these are children out on the streets late at night very drunk causing mayhem – we are making sure that information is shared between social services and social and private landlords to force some parents into accepting their responsibility. It has been the case and it will be happening again soon that families are being evicted from their home for failing to control their kids!
Fleetwood News
My ‘ask’ is simple: what is your child up to tonight, who with and where? The vast majority will know all the answers and be happy they aren’t causing misery for someone. There is quite a lot going on for young people in Wyre, have a look on the Wyre Council website and various associated links. Lancs Police have recently recruited for local Police cadets and there are loads of other groups/clubs/places to go too.
With all the above mentioned, I need to point out that it is accepted Fleetwood has a great bunch of young people that we meet on a daily basis, who don’t get themselves into trouble, who don’t get drunk 3 nights out of 7! We see and speak with them all the time and it’s great to see, especially when our line of work puts us so frequently in touch with the ‘others.’ Your neighbourhood police team are always here to talk, to let us know what’s happening in your area, we can’t be there all the time but you are. If we are missing something and it’s affecting you or your family, tell us. Don’t suffer because of the actions of others, and don’t forget you can report things anonymously using Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. The main PACT surgery will be at ALDI on Saturday 17th May between 1pm & 3pm. If you live on Rossall ward, there is a surgery between 2pm-4pm each Monday at Eden Avenue Community Centre. If you can’t make any of these surgeries, simply call us on 101; we will always come out and see you for a policing need if you prefer at your home address by appointment. Visit the Lancashire Constabulary website for further ways of contacting us including registering for ‘In The Know’ – a free text messaging service that allows you to be in control about what information you want from us. And don’t forget, we have our own facebook page – Fleetwood Area Police, follow us and ‘like’ us. I do get time sometimes to read the comments left, some positive, some ‘constructive’ and some eye wateringly honest! Take Care, Sergeant Daniel Whitaker
Have You Thought About Being A Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator?
Neighbourhood Watch, along with a host of other Watch Schemes that the Police has created, brings a community together with the same goal in mind – to help make a particular area a better place to live; people watch out for each other and tell the Police if they suspect a crime is taking place or there are circumstances that may lead to a crime – such as suspicious people or vehicles driving around the neighbourhood. A Watch scheme is a citizen-organised system of policing in a particular community or environment to prevent crime and disorder. Being a Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator is not a difficult or time-consuming task – in fact, you decide the number of homes you wish to include in your Watch scheme.
So, you may ask, how do I go about becoming a Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator? You either Contact Sue Blackburn, Watch Liaison Officer, Lancashire Constabulary on 01253 604134 30
or email her susan.blackburn@lancashire. pnn.police.uk or talk to a member of your Neighbourhood Policing team. Information will be provided on the process, which is quick and easy. Interested? Please contact Sue Blackburn, above, or a member of your Neighbourhood Policing team.

and the chaos and insanity of the trenches. To mark the centenary of the First World War and based upon the archive letter collection of the Sherwood Foresters regiment, this poignant and uplifting production weaves together heroic, comic, and heart-breaking tales of soldiers and families through their own words. And in doing so, explores how this most elemental and vanishing form of communication managed to hold the country together whilst a generation of men was being destroyed. This play has been brought to the Library by the Arts and Events Section at Wyre Council, as part of their Activity Plan for Fleetwood’s Memorial Park, funded through the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Big Lottery. PARKINSONS DISEASE SUPPORT GROUP Our main aims are to give support to people with Parkinson’s Disease, their families and friends. We are a small independent group and meet on a weekly basis at our hall at the top of Bold Street, right next to the North Euston Hotel. Our meetings are run on a “drop in” basis every Wednesday between 10.a.m. and 3.00 p.m. Tea, coffee and biscuits are served in a very informal, comfortable atmosphere. We also have a session with exercises especially chosen for Parkinson sufferers but helpers and volunteers can join in too. These exercises will not halt the progression of the disease but they do promote a feeling of well being and are mentally stimulating ( as well as being a good laugh in the process!!) Fleetwood News
Five For Fleetwood
A skate park, splash zone and inclusive play area are among the attractions that will feature in the further development of Fleetwood’s waterfront. Wyre Council has been awarded £1.55m from the Coastal Communities Fund to help regenerate the seaside town. The money will be split between a number of physical building projects along the seafront, an events programme that will draw people to the area so they can see first-hand what’s on offer, plus support, training and advice for tourism businesses so they are primed to take advantage of the new attractions on offer to visitors. The building side of the programme has been dubbed Five For Fleetwood as the council will concentrate on five zones: 1. Euston Park New footpaths, planting and cosmetic improvements will give the park the facelift it needs to become a proper gateway for people arriving by tram or on the Knott End Ferry. The Grade II listed drinking fountain, erected in memory of two fishermen who lost their lives trying to save others, will be restored to its former glory and become a main feature of the park. Finally the old run-down concrete shelters on the Esplanade side of the park will be upgraded. 2. Promenade Because the Esplanade is curved and visitors cannot see for themselves, it is vital they know that there is much more to enjoy if they keep heading south. Signage and information boards at the gateway will help, but artwork from the radar station to the former pier site will also serve as a way to pique their curiosity. This section of the promenade is to be resurfaced and complementary street furniture will be installed. Consideration will also be given to refurbishing the existing pier kiosk. 3. Leisure Hub Stretching between the pier site and the sports centre, this space will be opened up even further and exciting new facilities for all ages added to create a real family atmosphere. A skate park, which we already know will be widely welcomed, will be built on the grassed area nearest the Esplanade. The existing children’s play area will be extended into the site where the paddling pool currently stands. This will be very much an inclusive play facility with equipment designed so that disabled children can enjoy their leisure time alongside their friends. Another exciting new feature in front of the leisure centre will be what is commonly known as a splashpad. Here children can run at will through water jets and fountains on a safe non-slip surface. This is a much more modern alternative to the paddling pool. However, so that the traditional pastime of paddling is kept, the design of the splash pad will incorporate a feature where standing water is retained. As soon as we have a design for this we will be meeting with the members of the Fleetwood Community Trust to get their feedback. To encourage people to stay awhile, a new concession block will be
38
built next to the water play area with tables and chairs to watch the children play and enjoy food from the kiosks or bring their own picnics. High walls will be removed so the leisure hub is one big family friendly space - allowing parents with children of different age groups to keep sight of them all. Lower walls will need to be retained in some places as wind breaks. Pedestrian access to this leisure hub will be greatly improved with the existing steps, which are in a poor condition, being completely removed and replaced. signage from the beach will also be introduced to steer people towards these exciting new facilities. 4. Marine Lake Pleasure boats will be added during the summer season so people make more use of this beautiful attraction. Cosmetic improvements to the footpaths and surrounding buildings are also planned. 5. Ecology zone The council intends to make more use of the wonderful diverse wildlife around Rossall Point and more details about this will be released in due course. Work will start as soon as possible and individual elements of the programme will be completed at different times from summer 2015 onwards. In the interim the council will be busy marketing the area and encouraging people to rediscover a seamless, diverse coastline from Knott End all the way to Cleveleys. The existing paddling pool will be open throughout the 2014 summer bathing season and will be unaffected by the works. Councillor Peter Gibson, Leader of Wyre Council, enthused ‘Now that we can shout more publicly about our plans, I hope the whole of Fleetwood and everyone else with an interest in Wyre’s coastline, will get firmly behind them. Things are falling into place for this gem of a seaside town and we can finally complete the vision we started in the Seafront Masterplan. Next summer we will have a waterfront that puts Fleetwood firmly on the tourism map. From that comes an inevitable boost to the local economy and then the potential for even more investment. I’m also delighted that we have extra money to ensure our tourism businesses are equipped with the right skills and tools to take advantage of the change in fortune heading our way.’

THE MOUNT RACING CLUB UPDATE
THE HIGHS AND LOWS OF RACING Eva Clare winning at Southwell
New Arrival & Eva Clare in the money again
W
e are pleased to announce that we have purchased a very classy 2yo filly by the multiple Group1 Irish Derby winner Dylan Thomas who will be trained at Spigot Lodge by Karl Burke. This strong looking filly has plenty of scope and was purchased at the Newmarket yearling sales and comes with the Tattersalls £10,000 yearling bonus attached. Like all Dylan Thomas offspring she’s going to take time to come to hand but we definitely think it will be worth the wait as she looks a very exciting prospect for the future and not one to miss out on. The ‘Eva Clare’ syndicate proved a real hit with plenty of local people getting involved and we hope the ‘Dylan Thomas’ one can follow suit. The beauty of it being a syndicate horse is that it doesn’t have to cost the earth to get involved and there are a wide range of share packages available with ones to suit all budgets. Basically it’s a case of if you want to get involved we are confident we can find a share package that suits your means.
Eva Clare in the money again Our star 3yo filly Eva Clare continued in her rich vein of form with another 2 excellent performances. Following on from her pleasing debut she travelled to Southwell and lined up in what could turn out to be quite a decent Maiden. Proclamation of War was a very warm favourite and everyone’s idea of the winner but this didn’t phase our Eva who tracked the leader and a furlong out when jockey Ben Curtis asked her to go she quickened up nicely and went past to score by half a length. Two weeks later Eva returned to the Nottinghamshire track and lined up in a class 4 race over the flying 5f again and despite taking a big step up in class she acquitted herself fine finishing 3rd beaten a length and a half. She would of finished a lot closer hadn’t she been hampered with by the runner up who dragged her halfway across the course in the final furlong, but still it was a pleasing run and on this evidence her owners can look forward to plenty more visits to the winners enclosure with her this year.
Anyone who would like to know more or get involved or would like to know any more details can do so by contacting Geoff on 07852 153969 or Andy on 07940 202312 or by visiting our website www.themountracingclub.co.uk Advertise your business call 0800 970 7687 or email info@link-mag.co.uk

The new touring exhibition – Sons of Mars – is now on display in the upstairs temporary exhibition gallery. This is an exhibition of illustrations by Graham Sumner looking at the changing face of the Roman soldier from Romulus to the fall of Rome. It certainly dispels some of the perceptions we may have had since school days. On Saturday May 27th there will be a special Roman themed Craft day when children can craft their own Roman Shield. From Monday May 12th until Friday May 23rd we will be staging our ever popular Victorian Seaside Special for visiting primary schoolchildren. To date nearly a thousand pupils have been booked into sessions, many travelling from schools throughout Lancashire, Cumbria and West Yorkshire. Fleetwood News
Signs point way to port visitor boost Fleetwood is on the cusp of a tour boom thanks to a series of investments being made in the port according to traders. Town hall bosses are currently drawing up plans to spend a £1.5m windfall that will transform the seafront, while the ports Memorial Park in the middle of a £2.4m renovation. And traders have welcomed the official unveiling of eight new signs at key visitor sites around Fleetwood, which are designed to promote the town and boost spending by tourists. Steve Lynton, owner of Granada Fish Bar and one of the driving forces behind the new Explore Fleetwood signs said the port has suffered in recent years. He said ‘We are trying to reverse the trend, there are a lot of positive things in Fleetwood but people over the years have only looked at the negatives. But now we need to keep this momentum going. It’s a very positive time for Fleetwood and I hope it continues.’ The new signs show a map of Fleetwood, highlighting the traders locations and points out attractions visitors may not be aware of. The aim is to get tourists spending longer in the port, bringing more money to the local economy. Derek Eaton, chairman of Fleetwood Chamber of Trade said ‘Tourism can help to make up for the decline of Fleetwood’s traditional industries’ He added ‘In the time I have been trading here, almost 40 years, the town has had a bad time with the loss of fishing. Then an explosion of housing in places like Clevelys meant demand went higher and higher - and the sufferer was Fleetwood. But this is the start of an exciting time for the town.’ Fleetwood MP Eric Ollernshaw said ‘The issue in Fleetwood is you get lots of people coming into Freeport and not going any further. If you can get people going around the town then businesses across Fleetwood have got a chance. Fleetwood has got one of the best views in this part of the country, right across to the Lade District, but very few people see that. If we can get that movement around town of existing visitors who come that is surely going to help.’
One of the newly erected signs in Fleetwood
The signs, which were funded by Wyre Council, Fleetwood Chamber of Trade and Fleetwood Town Council cost £3,600 and were designed by LINK-MAG. Alexandra Holt, Wyre Council’s tourism development officer, said ‘We have carefully planned what is on the boards and where they are situated so the maximum number of visitors see them. We want to get people into the shops, into attractions and spending money.’ Mr Eaton said he now hopes to look at installing information boards at other important sites around town, including Pharos Lighthouse.
Coastline getting a £1.5m facelift to attract visitors•
• A major overhaul of Fleetwood’s coastline is planned using a £1.5m grant announced recently • Five sites along the seafront are being targeted for refurbishments. •The five zones to be improved as part of the cash windfall are: Euston Park, the Prom, a leisure hub from the pier to the sports centre, the Marine Lake and an ecology zone at Rossall Point.
