unique comedy play, The Dressing Room gives the audience a sneak preview into life behind the scenes. Set backstage in the dressing room, each act waits their turn to be called to stage. One by one they make their performance before returning to the hub of activity where the gossip and misunderstandings continue. Talking about the show, Bobby Ball commented; ‘I’m really excited to bring this show to Fleetwood. I love to be out on stage and I’m really happy to be working with such a great bunch of performers. The show is a part variety, part play – or “playriety” as I like to call it! The audience gets to watch each star perform their own variety act as well as see the little things you don’t usually get to see that go on back stage – the gossip, what we think of the audience, how we think the show is going … and lots more. We are a small independent group and meet on a weekly basis at our hall at the top of Bold Street, right next to the North Euston Hotel. Our meetings are run on a “drop in” basis every Wednesday between 10.a.m. and 3.00 p.m. Tea, coffee and biscuits are served in a very informal, comfortable atmosphere. We also have a session with exercises especially chosen for Parkinson sufferers but helpers and volunteers can join in too. These exercises will not halt the progression of the disease but they do promote a feeling of well being and are mentally stimulating ( as well as being a good laugh in the process!!) The exercise session is at 12.noon. So if you are affected by Parkinson’s Disease in any way whatsoever, why not give us try, you never know, we might be just that extra tonic you need. Also if you feel like volunteering to help out in any way, pop in on any Wednesday and see what you think. THE HIGHS AND LOWS OF RACING New Arrival
W
e are pleased to announce that the lightly raced 5yo Summer Storm has joined the ranks of the Mount Racing Club. Previously trained by Nicky Henderson and owned by the Queen this well bred son on the Classic winning Lucarno has had just 3 starts to date, winning his Bumper and finishing runner up in a Novice Hurdle. He has gone straight into full training with the up and coming talented Dual Purpose trainer Rebecca Menzies and should be making his debut for us over Hurdles very soon. Rebecca (Becky) Menzies is the beginning of a new generation of Racehorse trainers and her new yard and venture is based at the famous Foulrice Farm Racing Stables in Brandsby near York, formerly where the famous and well respected Peter Beaumont used to train. Becky has been involved in racing since her early teens and previously worked as assistant trainer to Ferdy Murphy for 8 years at West Witton before setting up her own operation 2 years ago when Ferdy moved to France. She has a small and trusted team and has already enjoyed plenty of success doubling her win and place money earned in her first year and is currently working at a 51% strike rate for win/ placed runners. To the seasoned Owner Foulrice Racing Stables needs no introduction as Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Jodami was trained here along with the winners of the Scottish National and the Irish Hennessy. There’s plenty of modern day facilities and being set in 300 acres of rolling grassland it really is the perfect place to train horses.

ad to report that due to injury we have had to let Eva Clare go and she has been sold at the Brightwell Sales at Ascot. It’s a shame as we feel we never really got to see Eva’s full potential on the track as she seemed to be cursed with one injury after another. When she did race for us though she certainly did us proud winning once and placing five times from just eight runs and earning nearly seven thousand pounds in prize money for his patient Owners. She has been sold to a Bloodstock agent who is going to use her for breeding and she can now start to enjoy her new life as a Broodmare, we wish her well.

FY7 Community Beat Hello This time of year (hopefully!) brings us some warm weather and as we’re already seeing, a rise in the number of vehicles and homes stolen from because of insecure windows and doors. This usually means a shift to daytime offences taking place, when few people tend to think their home could be burgled in broad daylight – it happens!! Please don’t sit in your back garden and leave your front doors and windows unlocked or unattended, there will always be somebody about to take advantage of it! I do write in here many times about anti-social behaviour (ASB) and the impact this has on its victims. I would ask those of you with children to know where they are and who they are playing out with; as when we’re called to reports of youths causing trouble and in turn we return a child home to their parents, the reception the officer receives is often that they didn’t know where they were or who they were with. Sadly some parents don’t even seem to bother as long as they’re not under their feet!! ASB has varying impacts on people; kids gathering outside an old lady’s house can cause a huge amount of anxiety to her, whereas others might not be bothered until in progressed to fighting in the street. It’s not always kids either, we get an increase in calls to noisy garden parties and drunken barbeques – please show consideration to your neighbours. If you do suffer from noisy neighbours on a regular basis, then you need to contact Wyre Council to deal with the matter, as this in itself is not a Police matter. My team have had some good results recently in relation to convictions at court with nuisance neighbours and
prolific offenders. Incidents that start out very trivial often grow into much bigger problems and prosecution is no shock to the offender when it happens, we undertake so much work before we get to that, through mediation, restorative justice and out of court sanctions. The Fleetwood PACT event takes place at the ASDA store on Dock Street on the third Saturday of each month between 1pm and 3pm. Thornton Cleveleys event takes place on the last Saturday of every month, at Thornton Precinct Co-op between 5pm and 6pm. We’re usually joined by a local Councillor too so between us we should be able to assist or refer on your information to the right person. For those on the t’internet, take a look at our Lancashire Police website – ‘Do It Online’ allows you to report incidents and crimes online direct through to us. You can complain and compliment and most importantly, it eases the process and frustrations sometimes encountered by making it easy to email directly to an officer. From this website you could choose to join the thousands of other people already signed up to our new ‘In The know’ text messaging service. This allows you to tailor what information we send through to you, whether it is crime prevention, news alerts, and crime pattern information or witness appeals. You’ll also find we will use it to advertise job vacancies. All this is in addition to the Fleetwood Area Police and Thornton Cleveleys Area Police facebook pages.

W
e had a visit to the Fleetwood Parkinson’s Group. We were invited by the Fleetwood Parkinson’s Group for a Buffet Lunch to hand over the cheque from the profit of the recent Fashion Show the ‘Lions’ ran. Lions Stuart Gratrix, Denis Bowker, Margaret Purcell and Mavis Gratrix visited on Wednesday 3rd June at 13:00 We were met by Sue Dalton (leader) and Claire Dalton the group organisers and Claire’s Mother Reta who runs the kitchen, a fantastic team. They are group of about twelve and had just finished their exercise programmes and were ready for lunch. We all sat down for a super buffet lunch During the lunch we had a relaxed chat with the group who talked about their various experiences they had whilst suffering from Parkinson’s in a light-hearted friendly atmosphere. It speaks volumes for the ladies who run the group as the same people turn up week after week.
