Why use Carbon Clean?
Carbon deposits build up in the car engine when petrol or diesel is combusted. When the fuel burns it leaves impurities behind in the form of carbon deposits that are baked hard by the heat from the engine. Seeing the engine as the beating heart of the vehicle, carbon deposits are like cholesterol build up in the arteries. Wyre celebrates award winning parks
W
yre is celebrating receiving four Green Flags for parks across the borough, after Keep Britain Tidy unveiled this year’s recipients of their prestigious awards.

Poulton’s Vicarage Park, Hawthorne Park in Thornton, Wyre Estuary Country Park in Stanah and Fleetwood’s Memorial Park have all received the award for another year.
Jenifer Phillips, Chair of Hawthorne Park Trust, commented: “Over the last ten years we’ve transformed Hawthorne Park from a field with an unloved play area into a real family park with a lovely, old fashioned enjoyable feel.”
This international award is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities.
Fleetwood’s Grade II listed Memorial Park has also been awarded a Green Heritage Site accreditation once again, in recognition of its historical importance and high standards of care and upkeep.
Councillor David Henderson, Street Scene, Parks and Open Spaces Portfolio Holder at Wyre Council, said: “Gaining a Green Flag in the first instance is no easy achievement. Keeping it is just as difficult and could not be done without the dedication and hard work of the parks staff and volunteers.”
Les Fletcher, Chair of the Friends of Memorial Park, said: “These awards are a tribute to all the volunteers who help to keep Memorial Park looking lovely.”
Over 40 parks volunteers and members of Friends groups celebrated at a special event with the Mayor of Wyre, Councillor Alice Collinson, held at the Civic Centre in Poulton. Jean Stansfield/Vicarage Park held its fifth annual Our Big Gig last weekend with around 3,000 people enjoying live music and fundraising at the event. Steph Hasty, Chair of the Friends of Jean Stansfield/ Vicarage Park, said: “We are so proud to be part of achieving the Green Flag Award. To the group it means that we must be doing something right. Rossall Point residents firmly on track to maintain clean beaches on Fylde Coast
V
olunteer numbers now regularly reach up to 20 local residents on the weekly beach clean-ups at Rossall Point near Fleetwood. The beach cleans were first set up four years ago when Rossall Point observation tower was opened by Wyre Council. LOVEmyBEACH supported the set up of monthly beach cleans but after growing interest from the public the decision was made to make the beach cleans a weekly event. From January this year the beach cleans have run every Thursday from 10.30am to 12pm.

Litter picking only takes a couple of hours but makes me feel I have done something worthwhile for nature and the community.” Carol is also a keen wildlife watcher and enjoys seeing the fantastic birdlife at Rossall Point whilst cleaning the beach. From the Observation Tower skylarks, sanderlings, terns, ringed plover and other wading birds are regularly spotted. There’s even the chance of spotting grey seals, porpoise and bottlenose dolphins when the tide is in. Over the past four years many tonnes of rubbish have been removed from Rossall Point beach by the volunteers, including tyres, rubber ducks and lots of odd shoes!
Now, with more local residents coming along to help clean the beach at Rossall Point, a real sense of community has formed within the volunteers.
In total, the volunteers have given over 1,000 hours of their time over four years to help keep the beach clean and safe for everyone to enjoy.
Carol Johnston, who lives nearby in Cleveleys, started coming to the beach cleans when they first began as she was keen to get involved with volunteering.
The volunteers are happy to welcome a new 2 minute beach clean board recently donated by the LOVEmyBEACH campaign to the Rossall Point observation tower.
For Carol the weekly event helps plan out her week and she looks forward to the regular fixture in her diary. Carol said: “I like coming out every week and getting some fresh sea air. It’s positive to know that I’m doing my bit in a small way to help wildlife whilst also meeting other like-minded folk.” “When I retired I felt I needed to have some routine 26

That’s why the boards are a good addition to the work already happening; they give everyone the opportunity to do a little bit for the beach environment. At the heart of Forget Me Not is a detective whose tool of the trade - his mind - is failing him, making the most important case of his life something of a challenge to solve. By turns hilarious and thoughtprovoking, this is a one-man comedy poetry theatre show that has a lot to say about how we treat and perceive people with dementia.
