PARKINSONS DISEASE SUPPORT GROUP Our main aims are to give support to people with Parkinson’s Disease, their families and friends. We are a small independent group and meet on a weekly basis at our hall at the top of Bold Street, right next to the North Euston Hotel. Our meetings are run on a “drop in” basis every Wednesday between 10.a.m. and 3.00 p.m. Tea, coffee and biscuits are served in a very informal, comfortable atmosphere. We also have a session with exercises especially chosen for Parkinson sufferers but helpers and volunteers can join in too. These exercises will not halt the progression of the disease but they do promote a feeling of well being and are mentally stimulating ( as well as being a good laugh in the process!!) The exercise session is at 12.noon. So if you are affected by Parkinson’s Disease in any way whatsoever, why not give us try, you never know, we might be just that extra tonic you need. Also if you feel like volunteering to help out in any way, pop in on any Wednesday and see what you think. he season at Fleetwood Museum is now firmly underway. Our opening exhibition of the season, the Great War themed, ‘ Somewhere in France’ - has proved to be popular. Due to the rare postcards, sent from the Front, one hundred years ago, museum technicians have had to reduce the light levels in the gallery to protect the images. The exhibition has been linked to children’s activities in the Education Room and further activities, involving military re enactors , have been arranged for families on Saturdays in June. We also have childrens activities on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at 12.30 and 14.00 during the school holidays at the end of May and during July and August. The museum has staged holiday crafts and activities for children for many years. Please call into museum reception to pick up a full colour brochure of all museum activies for 2015 or ring 876621 for details/ bookings for childrens and family activities. May, always sees many hundreds of children from all over Lancashire, Cumbria and West Yorkshire arriving at Fleetwood Museum for our Victorian Seaside event, starting on May 11th. Many of the children bring their families back to the town later, after enjoying their day in Fleetwood. A number of social activities are taking place this month. The Trust are staging a Psychic Evening on Wednesday 6th May at 19.00. Tickets, priced £4, are available from museum reception, and the ticket price includes a glass of wine or fruit juice. Our monthly talk at 14.00 on Wednesday 20th May

As a schoolgirl, she met many well known stars, appearing at the Pier Theatre and her anecdotes are well worth a listen. The Museum Friends stage their AGM on Wednesday 13th May in the museum at 19.00. After the formal business we will have an Old Fleetwood show - rare pictures and a fun quiz. Community funding on offer in Wyre A share of £60,000 is on offer to people in Wyre who want to make a difference in their communities.
W
yre Council’s Shaping Your Neighbourhood initiative has been extended for a third year and bids are now being accepted for community projects that will improve enterprise, health or engagement in the borough. The council is looking for creative ideas that will make a real long term difference to local people. It could be something simple like provision of equipment to enhance towns and villages, improvements to existing services or facilities that will encourage more people to use them or new ways to reach people and bring communities together. Shaping Your Neighbourhood was launched in 2012 to allow people to get involved in improving their neighbourhoods and over £450,000 in grants has already been awarded across Wyre. Funding has gone towards an assortment of projects including dementia and bereavement support programmes, sport and play equipment and refurbishment of community buildings. The Willow Garden Project in Fleetwood, a charity that supports adults with disabilities and mental health problems, received a grant of £3,000 to build an observatory in its sensory garden. Pamela Laird from the project commented: ‘The observatory compliments the garden perfectly and I know that it will be very much appreciated by our service users
and the local community. The support we received through Shaping Your Neighbourhood has been brilliant and the links we have established will no doubt help to spread the word to the local community to explain what the Willow Garden Project is all about. Thank you so much for supporting us.’ Jane Littlewood from visitcleveleys.co.uk secured £5,000 towards restoring a seaside clock shelter in Cleveleys. She said: ‘If you don’t like something in your local community, you really do have the power to do something about it, and a Shaping Your Neighbourhood grant might help you to pay for it. If you’ve not been involved with anything like this before you need to be clear about what you want to achieve, how you will do it and how much it will cost before you apply but from there it’s simple and officers at Wyre will help you. I was astonished at the community support and pride that the project created.’ Wyre is split into six neighbourhood areas: Cleveleys, Thornton, Fleetwood, Poulton, Rural East (Garstang and surrounding villages) and Rural West (Over Wyre and Great Eccleston).
