Community Parade to commemorate First World War Centenary Residents of Fleetwood and the surrounding area are invited to take part in a community parade in the town to commemorate the First World War Centenary. The Homecoming will take place on Armistice Day, Tuesday 11th November, following the Service of Remembrance at Marine Hall and will parade from the gardens, through the town before ending at Memorial Park. People are asked to dress in the uniform and clothing of the time and to decorate shops and homes with murals, bunting and flags reflective of the many homecomings that occurred during the war. The town will be a hive of theatre activity with a variety of colourful characters from the home front and Memorial Park will host the 16th Lancers Cavalry Display Troop, mezzo-soprano Patricia Hammond, music wagon, feed stations, first aid post and more to continue the theme after the parade. Councillor Terry Rogers, Wyre’s Armed Forces Champion, said: ‘The Homecoming is a chance for local people to get involved in honouring a momentous event in our history and at the same time experience a bit of what life was like for those involved in the First World War. It is fitting for the parade to end at Memorial Park, which was created in commemoration of the First World War and has been a focal point for the community ever since. As we reflect on the past, we also have a reason to celebrate, as the park is being transformed for future generations to enjoy.
He Continued: ‘I’d like to encourage as many people as possible, young and old, to take part in the parade or line the route to help create the atmosphere of a true homecoming, and then join us at Memorial Park afterwards.’ The council is also seeking volunteers to help steward the parade and subsequent event at the park. All volunteers will receive a complimentary lunch and a memento to mark their participation. The Homecoming is part of a programme of events to celebrate Memorial Park, which is currently undergoing a complete restoration thanks to a £2.4m grant from the Heritage Lottery and Big Lottery Funds. The Grade II listed park is unique in that the entire grounds were created in commemoration of the First World War, unlike most conventional architectural memorials, and it is one of only a few listed war memorial parks and gardens in the country. The parade will assemble at Marine Hall Gardens on Tuesday 11 November at 10.30am, following the Service of Remembrance. Local Surgery Merger From 1st November, Dr Ali’s Surgery and Waverley Surgery will be merging to form a new practice, Fleetwood Surgery, which will be located at West View Health Village on Broadway. Dr Tse Sak Kwun has been practicing at Waverley Surgery since he took the practice over from Dr Eric Rowley back in 1991. He was born in Mauritius and speaks fluent English and French. In 2011 Dr Adam Janjua joined him to form a partnership under the auspice of Waverley Surgery. Dr Janjua was born in Sweden and speaks fluent English, Swedish, Urdu and Punjabi. Dr Syed Maqbool Ali originally opened his own practice in Fleetwood in 1978, and moved to West View Health Village in 2006. Dr Imran Ali studied Medicine at St Andrews and Manchester Universities, he then undertook further medical training in Manchester and Sheffield. Fleetwood Museum has now officially closed until next March but our ongoing work with local schools and heritage groups continues throughout the winter. Museum volunteers will, on November 11th be participating in the Homecoming – the parade to mark the centenary of the Great War here in Fleetwood. We will also have a World War I themed exhibition in the museum to open the 2015 season. If any local groups would like a social night with a difference, the museum can be opened in the evenings for private parties with museum volunteers on hand to explain exhibits. We can also provide a range of refreshments to suit your requirements. A number of local groups have already enjoyed an evening with us. Please ring the museum on 876621 during office hours for further details. Our main social event for the month will be the traditional Lancashire Night on official Lancashire Day, Thursday November 27th. This year’s event will be held at Fleetwood Bowling Club, Upper Lune Street starting at 7.30pm. As well as a hot pot supper with apple pie and cream we will have an evening of
entertainment with Ian Gartside and Sue Bousfield and Friends. Lots of funny Lancashire songs and dialect poems, games and quizzes. Louie lights up clean coast message A Fylde Coast schoolboy has got his name up in lights promoting an important environmental message Louie Brooks, 10, from Shakespeare Primary School in Fleetwood, won a special competition to design a brand new Blackpool Illuminations display promoting the message of keeping our seas clean. His design was picked out from among entries from schools across the Fylde coast by the Illuminations curator Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen. The display will now shine as part of the world famous lightshow until 9th November. The competition was held by the Fylde Peninsula Water Management Group, a partnership made up of Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde councils, Lancashire County Council, Environment Agency, United Utilities, Keep Britain Tidy and Merlin Entertainments, working together to improve water quality in the region.
Speaking on behalf of the Fylde Peninsula Water Management Group, Councillor Roger Berry of Wyre Council, said: ‘We’re trying to educate children as well as parents about the importance of keeping the coast clean. There are lots of simple things that can make a massive difference to the quality of our sea water, such as checking the drains in your house are connected properly, that you pick up after your pet or you clean up your litter after you’ve been on the beach. Views sought on life in Wyre Wyre residents are being urged to share their views on the borough and help shape services in their neighbourhoods. Wyre Council wants to know what people think about everything from rubbish collections and affordable housing to job opportunities and anti-social behaviour, in its biennial survey Life In Wyre. Leader of Wyre Council, Councillor Peter Gibson, said: ‘This is an opportunity to directly influence council services and priorities in your area. We want to hear about what we’re doing well and how we can improve. 84% of residents told us in the last survey that they were satisfied with the area they live in however they also made it clear that more needed to be done about environmental crime including fly-tipping, dog fouling and littering. He continued: ‘Since then, tackling this issue has been a top priority; we’ve introduced online reporting where locations can be mapped and invested in systems that allow incidents to be picked up on mobile devices by officers who can respond immediately. I want to encourage as

Dr Tony Naughton, the CCG’s clinical chief officer, said: ‘We want to make sure that health services locally meet people’s needs, and I would like to thank people in advance for taking the time to give their views.’ A sample of 3000 residents across the borough have been sent a survey in the post and anyone can complete the survey online at wyre.gov.uk/ lifeinwyre. Responses must be received by 16 November. We are a small independent group and meet on a weekly basis at our hall at the top of Bold Street, right next to the North Euston Hotel. Our meetings are run on a “drop in” basis every Wednesday between 10.a.m. and 3.00 p.m. Tea, coffee and biscuits are served in a very informal, comfortable atmosphere. We also have a session with exercises especially chosen for Parkinson sufferers but helpers and volunteers can join in too. These exercises will not halt the progression of the disease but they do promote a feeling of well being and are mentally stimulating ( as well as being a good laugh in the process!!) The exercise session is at 12.noon. So if you are affected by Parkinson’s Disease in any way whatsoever, why not give us try, you never know, we might be just that extra tonic you need. Also if you feel like volunteering to help out in any way, pop in on any Wednesday and see what you think. Following the success of the 2013 Day of Sunshine Search for Santa flight to the North Pole, they have decided to make this an annual event, and are pleased to be able to be able to confirm the ‘Day of Sunshine Search 4 Santa 2014’, which will take place on Monday 22nd December, departing from Manchester airport at 12:00, with coach transport leaving from the shop in Lytham St Anne’s at 09:30 that morning. During the trip Santa and some of his helpers will meet up with the children, and hand out gifts to them! Donations:- A Day of Sunshine are currently seeking donations of new, unused gifts for the children involved in this event, and your help would be much appreciated with this. In the interests of the health of our guests, no donations of sweets, please. Details of how to

THE HIGHS AND LOWS OF RACING
T
here are plenty of positives buzzing around the Mount Racing Club at the moment which is something we all enjoy and long may it continue. Firstly our 2yo filly Fidelma Moon, who won so impressively last time out at Wolverhampton, has come out of her race fine and is fit and well. She is to be given one more assignment before the Turf season ends and all being well she will head down to Newmarket to take in a valuable race on the highly prestigious ‘Future Champions Day’, a day when all the top 2yo horses in the country compete against each other. This will be a big step up in class for her and will see The Mount Racing Club making their first ever visit to the Headquarters of British Horse Racing. To have a runner at ‘HQ’ is quite a feat but to have one there at a high profile meeting like ‘Future Champions Day’ is a massive achievement for a syndicate like ours and one we fully intend to enjoy with all our Owners. More good news is the long awaited return to the track of our 3yo filly Eva Clare. After making a bright start to her career earlier on in the year when she had 4 races and finished 2nd, 1st, 3rd and 3rd, she has frustratingly been off the track since due to the exceptionally dry summer we’ve had. We tried her once on Good to Firm ground but she hated it and came back very sore after it. Since then we have had to sit and wait for the rain to arrive and the ground to come up Soft. Fair play to her loyal Owners though
who have waited and now the ground is in her favour they should be rewarded for their patience. Eva is due to go to Musselburgh for a 5f sprint and then will continue throughout the Winter on the All Weather at Southwell where she definitely will win races and could turn into a bit of a course specialist. This time of year sees the start of the Yearling Sales and as ever here at The Mount Racing Club we will be attending them and keeping a very close eye on who is buying and selling what. Due to plenty of interest Fidelma Moon is now completely sold out and we only have very limited shares left in Eva Clare so the need is there to bring in a new horse. As ever we will be advised by Karl Burke who with his vast knowledge and experience is one of the shrewdest players in the bloodstock game. Just like Eva and Fidelma we are aiming to bring in a horse that can give its Owners good days out and visits to the Winners Enclosures up and down the land. We hope to have plenty of share packages available in it at a range of prices that everyone can afford and will keep everyone posted when we have more news.
