This November the adult reading group will be discussing ‘By Battersea Bridge’ by Janet Davey. This months book tells the story of Anita Mostyn and her attempt to clear her cluttered mind. To escape a horrifying past Anita begins to scout properties in Bulgaria but soon past issues return to haunt her. The adult reading group is open to everyone - to join simply request this months book from a member of staff at Fleetwood Library. He has had an operation following an x ray and is now on pain killers and anti-inflammatory medication. He needs time to rest and improve his condition but he will be looking for a foster home or ideally a permanent home. His age as approx two years old he has been neutered and has a very friendly nature. Ricky is named after Richard Kiel the man who played Jaws in the Bond films. The RSPCA is determined to educate people and raise the importance of the work the RSPCA undertakes with regard to prosecution and supporting animals found in such condition as Ricky. Care & Support PARKINSONS DISEASE SUPPORT GROUP Our main aims are to give support to people with Parkinson’s Disease, their families and friends. We are a small independent group and meet on a weekly basis at our hall at the top of Bold Street, right next to the North Euston Hotel. Our meetings 32
are run on a “drop in” basis every Wednesday between 10am and 3pm. Tea, coffee and biscuits are served in a very informal, comfortable atmosphere. We also have a session with exercises especially chosen for Parkinson sufferers but helpers and volunteers can join in too. These exercises will not halt the progression of the disease but they do promote a feeling of well being and are mentally stimulating (as well as being a good laugh!) The exercise session is at 12noon. So if you are affected by Parkinson’s Disease in any way whatsoever, why not give us try. Preparations are now complete for staging the towns firework extravaganza to take place between 5.30 and 9pm on November 5th. The event, as in previous years will take place opposite the Mount and Marine Hall, and if previous years are anything to go by we can expect a record crowd to this free event. Collections will be made on the night for charity, so contributions will be most welcome. It is only through the hard work of the Police, Lancashire Fire and Rescue, Fleetwood Town Council and Wyre Borough Council, Regenda and Fleetwood Rotary Club that we can once again enjoy this spectacle, so a big thank you to all involved this year. The fireworks are due to be set off at around 7.30pm; but musical entertainment is to be provided by the local band Jeps, and a variety of refreshment options will be available for visitors. Road restrictions will be in place, so remember if coming by car to park safely to and arrive in good time. As in previous years we want this to remain a spectacular and safe event.
