Blackpool Model Village & Gardens Many new exhibits have been added for 2011 along with a new model railway. Blackpool’s award winning attraction the Blackpool Model Village & Gardens has been serving the Lancashire community since it opened in 1972. As seen on TV, the village is set into 2 ½ acres of stunningly beautiful landscaped garden’s with paved pathways that provide full access to all. It doesn’t matter if you don’t know the difference between your annuals, biennials and your perennials, there is no denying the beauty that the gardens have to offer.

With 100’s of hand crafted models and figures creating various village scenes from a Scottish Castle, protected by its ranks of Guardsmen to a busy Cornish fishing village and bustling market square there is plenty that will spark your imagination. Follow the quiz and don’t miss any of them.

A Musical Extravaganza at Thornton Primary School The children of Thornton Primary School were delighted to welcome the Mayor and Mayoress of Wyre to their Summer Concert.

This musical evening was organised to showcase the talents of the children in all of the key stage 2 classes and the extra-curricular music groups.

In addition to the singing programme, the children performed on samba drums, recorders, woodwind, brass and percussion instruments, keyboards and drums. It was a fantastic evening of music and fun, enjoyed by all. The children and staff would like to thank everyone who supported this musical extravaganza and hope to organise many more musical events during the next academic year.

Special guests for the evening were Carleton Community Chorus who performed for the parents and governors and joined forces with the school choir. It has been a particularly successful year for Thornton Primary School Choir, under the direction of music co-ordinator Andy Brooke. It started last September when they entered the Fleetwood Music and Arts Festival for the first time and won first prize. In December, the choir performed at Sacred Heart Church in Thornton and again at Blackpool Opera House in March.

Cleveleys is spick and span after the cleaning activity of recent weeks! The In Bloom judges came to visit on Friday 15 July and were followed the week after by Pride in Cleveleys – the campaign against crime and grime in Jubilee Ward run by Wyre Community Safety Partnership, the police and other agencies. Community groups, churches and schools have been involved in all this work to the benefit of everyone who lives here and visits. The results of In Bloom will be known at the event in autumn – the benefits of Pride in Cleveleys will be seen straight away!

Life is slowly getting back to normal in the centre of Cleveleys with the long awaited opening of the tram tracks at Victoria Square, and most of the empty shops are now open with new tenants and the town centre is with bustling with life at the start of a fantasy the school holidays. story based on the Wyre Coastline and a copy will be given to each primary school pupil in Wyre.

The book to celebrate the Mythical Coastline project at Cleveleys has been launched You can also find us on with an event at Northfold Facebook Search Visit Cleveleys School, who helped with its development. ‘The Sea Swallow’ is a beautiful hard backed book

Introducing… The Peel2Save fundraising card is one of the most efficient and effective ways for charities, schools, clubs, youth groups and other non-profit organisations to raise much needed money.

The Ultimate .Super Simple High Profit Fundraiser! The Peel2Save fundraising card is a brilliant way for charities to raise much needed money. Peel2Save cards are credit-card sized – so they fit neatly into a purse or wallet. They contain 64 individual peel off coupons each one promoting a great local business. In total the offers are typically worth well over £300 – and all the offers are local to you.

You sell the cards for £10 each and get to keep £5 from every card sold. Because the cards offer such great value – and all the businesses featured are local to you (each card is built and pulled together by our local co-ordinator in your area) many organisations are selling hundreds of cards in only 2-3 weeks – which means very significant funds are raised very quickly.

The consumer wins, you win and local businesses benefit too. It’s a total community effort where everybody gains. If you would like to find out more about whether Peel2Save could work for your organisation simply give us a call... “It’s not like making a donation because I’m getting such great value from the card” Lindy Elledge

On the actual day itself Bishop Geoff will be welcomed to the party along with Rev David Maddock who was the Vicar of All Hallows at the time 22 years ago! Friday: Had a good day at work (I own a recruitment company) and in the evening had a meeting to discuss fund raising and ways to inspire people to get involved in projects to help the area they live in. Saturday: Following a meeting at the Sandhurst Area

Panel the previous Monday night, I met up with a number of constituents to look at the issue of weeds in their area. One of the key things Councillor Tony Williams and myself are Tuesday: I was very proud to take part in a public working on is to improve the visual look of Anchorsholme meeting on Tuesday evening which had been organised with a long term policy of planting trees and flowers in our by my friend and ward partner Councillor Tony Williams to parks (just as we have in Eastpines Park) and other areas of discuss the move to close the Lauderdale Tram Crossing Anchorsholme. As part of that policy we are pushing hard in Anchorsholme. I was so proud to see so many people to clean up and remove all of the weeds growing on the turn up and discuss such an important issue not just for Anchorsholme but the entire area. Very rarely in local politics footpaths in the area. I’m appalled at the state of some of is there an issue that unites everyone, normally some people the weeds in the area and encourage residents to contact me if the footpaths in their street or area have a weed will be in favour and others against, but this is an issue that problem so that I can get them removed and the area tidied unites everyone because it effects so many different people up. I’m passionate and I know Cllr Tony Williams is that from the elderly on the Fleetwood Road North side of the Anchorsholme will be one of the nicest and greenest places tram tracks trying to get to the Health Centre to parents to live in the years to come. I’ve always thought that weeds taking their children to St Teresa’s School on St Georges send out a picture that an area is run down whilst flowers or Avenue who are concerned about this important road being trees send a message that an area is well run and a good used as a cut through for people trying to reach the Health place to live so making sure the weeds are removed is very Centre who are travelling in from the Queen’s Prom Road. Both Councillor Williams and I made speeches and answered important to me. questions and on the night over 25 people came forward to volunteer to collect petitions, and so well have they done Sunday: I love Sunday’s, it’s a day to catch up with emails, we already have 1100 signatures in just over a week of the spend time with my family and catch up with friends. It was a the Methodist Church Hall and started work on establishing great night and I will never forget the site of so many people the Friends of Anchorsholme Park Group, this association in turning up for a meeting like that, I’m so proud to live in and the future will be the key to reviving this sleeping giant of a represent Anchorsholme. parks fortunes and turning it in to a park to be the envy of the

Thursday: Linking back to what I did on Wednesday, there is no point establishing different Groups for people to go to if they can’t get there, so I was very proud to call on a resident who is struggling to get out and about and give her the details of Rideability Blackpool which helps anyone who has a disability or a health problem that prevents them from getting to the nearest bus stop and picks people up from their door to where they want to go in Blackpool and visa versa providing they have a bus going in that general direction. Tuesday: Spent the day posting information inviting as

many residents of Anchorsholme as possible to the Executive meeting at the Town Hall on Wednesday evening. Afterwards sat down and prepared the information that we needed for it, the stakes were high and I made sure I had all the information from Blackpool Transport as well as the Rail Regulator so that we put the strongest case forward as possible to keep the crossing open.

Manor Beach Primary School Manor Drive, Thornton Cleveleys, Lancashire FY5 1EU What a fantastic year we have had at Manor Beach Primary School. We have had the best SATs results in 5 years. As you can imagine we are absolutely delighted. The staff, Governors, parents and children have all worked together to make huge improvements not only to standards, but also to the grounds, building, resources and opportunities, all of which have such a positive impact on the children’s learning. We are really proud of our numerous achievements this year which include: • A HMI (Her Majesty’s Inspector) OFSTED Monitoring visit which was very positive as the judgements he made were very encouraging and recognised how much the school had improved. His view was that the school was now at a point where with sustained improvement the school should be judged as a ‘good’ overall at the next full inspection. The very good SATs results this year obviously support his judgements. • The Summer Fair raised approximately £4,200 which is a fantastic amount of money. As always its success was dependent on the whole community working together and as a school we were grateful for the support. The money will be used to replace the playing surface underneath the climbing frame. • Our Summer Concert was a showcase for our musicians and singers to enable them to show their parents, friends and Governors what confident and accomplished performers they are. This goes to prove that at Manor Beach we not only

celebrate and promote academic success but encourage development in other areas. • ‘The Manor Beach Players’ production of Peter Pan which was written by a talented member of support staff involved both staff and children and an experience full of fun and laughter for one and all. • Gaining a Silver Award for the Young Wyre in Bloom 2011. At Manor Beach Primary School we aim to be a high achieving inclusive school at the heart of the local community. We strive to ensure children achieve and become well developed individuals. • One of our Year 4 children says: “Manor Beach is a great place to be. I enjoy all the lessons because the teachers make them fun…….there are lots of after school clubs and it’s a great place to make friends” • One of our Year 6 parents says: ‘It’s thanks to the staff, new and old and the constant support and dedication, you have all shown over the years, that my son has progressed to where he is now THANK YOU!” I would like to take this opportunity to wish our Year 6 leavers every success as they move on to the next step in their learning journey. They will be missed! Well done Manor Beach Primary School. Onwards and upwards !!! Jane Mason (Headteacher)
