Welcome to our JULY edition of LINK, its been a great last month with the fantastic FY5 Carnival so well done to all that took part and made this year a special one. Rossall Beach Community Association conducted its first fund raising event and raised over £455 so well done to all that turned up. You may also have noticed a slight change to our covers and design as we’ve given it a fresh look. LINK would also like to features more local news and events as we rely on you the community to supply us with information, as we are happy to print most things for FREE. Don’t forget coming up this month on the 17th July is the return of the biggest FREE event of its kind, the Fleetwood Festival of Transport “Tram Sunday 2011” and I believe a tram will be present on the day, so lets support it! LINK had the pleasure of creating the programme for the event so look out soon for copies. 10 YEAR CELEBRATIONS AT BEANSTALKS ON SAT 9TH JULY This month (July), Beanstalks Childcare at Burn Naze, Thornton is celebrating their tenth year anniversary. All Saints Anchorsholme Celebrate 50 years as a Parish October 9th 2011 All Saints was a daughter Church of All Hallows Bispham in 1961 and subsequently became a seperate parish in 1989.We shall be celebrating our anniversary over the coming months, both with a variety of events as well as some special services. Several former clergy and former parishoners who now lead their own Churches are coming to Preach. On the actual day itself Bishop Geoff will be welcomed to the party along with Rev David Maddock who was the Vicar of All Hallows at the time 22 years ago!

Week in my life as Councillor” “Paul Galley was elected to Blackpool Council to represent Anchorsholme alongside popular longstanding Councillor Tony Williams six weeks ago. For many people who wonder what a local Councillor does Paul Galley has written a diary of his seven days as a Councillor. Friday: Saw me join the board of Blackpool Transport and as someone who is passionate about public transport and uses buses and trams on a daily basis this was a very proud moment for me. The reason I originally got involved in politics was to one day build a new bus station in Blackpool which will allow us to catch a bus, train, tram taxi all from the same place, so to be on the board of Blackpool Transport is a step in the right direction for getting this done. Saturday: Following a letter to the Blackpool Gazette asking for donations for our summer fair at East Pines Park, I picked up a number of donations by some very kind residents of Anchorsholme. In the afternoon I attended the charity concert at the Golden Eagle arranged by the Fletcher family to raise money for Blackpool Victoria Hospital’s Macmillan Cancer Unit & The Christie Hospital in Manchester. The bands and singers were brilliant and everyone enjoyed it especially the singing of the children from Anchorsholme Primary School.
School Room on Beaufort Avenue and I highly recommend everyone to come along. Tuesday: At 6.30pm we had our Friends of East Pines Park Meeting which I thoroughly enjoyed. I’m the Secretary of the Friends Group and we have some really great people involved so not only do we get to improve the park we have a lot of fun doing it. The meeting involved the members (membership is free, please contact me if you would like to join), Parks Department and Fire Brigade planning our Summer Fair on the 9th July. Over a cup of tea we finalised the details for what promises to be a great day. I love the Friends Group as it’s a great example of what I love about Anchorsholme and that is great people giving up their time to improve the area we live in. Wednesday: I had planned to help on the new Community Garden that we are building at St Teresa’s but the evening work was cancelled so I used the time to catch up with emails and put together some plans for a new community group, I’m in the process of setting up: The Friends of Anchorsholme Park. Thursday: Following my meeting with the Sandhurst Area Panel on Monday, I arranged to meet a lovely lady from Age Concern Blackpool (soon to be Age UK) as for those that aren’t aware, close to 47% of Anchorsholme’s population are retired so I’m very keen to establish two things, one is a local support base as regards help and information on support services for the elderly in Anchorsholme and support to lots of local groups which provide entertainment and information for the elderly. It was a really good meeting and I learnt alot which will go a long way to help me to help the elderly in our area.
After the meeting, I then had a meeting with the Health Committee in Blackpool and found myself sat next to Aidan Kehoe the Chief Executive of Blackpool, Fylde & Wyre Hospitals NHS Foundation. I thoroughly enjoyed the meeting and it was great to talk to the experts about our local NHS and it’s plans for the future. I asked Aidan Kehoe about funding for the NHS and his Sunday: Met up with our local MP Paul Maynard hopes for the future and what impressed me was his and talked to him about the effects of spending cuts in honesty and his enthusiasm to deliver. The Fylde Society of Model Engineers We are a group of like minded individuals who are interested in model engineering, making models such as railway locomotives (both steam and electric driven), stationary steam engines, clocks and other devices suitable for making in a miniature form. Our principle activity is giving train rides to the public, both young and old alike, on our railway track adjacent to Marsh Mill. Weather permitting we give rides on Sunday afternoons,

Bank Holidays and Gala Day, mainly from Easter to end of October but also if possible over the winter months. We make no charge for a ride but do accept contributions. All moneys received go towards the upkeep of the club facilities. Afternoon running starts at about 1.45 pm. and finishes at about 4 pm. or later if there is a demand for rides. We also exhibit our models at any suitable local exhibition. We are always on the lookout for new members who have an interest in model engineering. Rossall Beach Fundraising Rossall Beach Residents & Community Group were out in force on Sunday holding their first fundraising event of 2011. The skies managed to behave themselves for once, after postponing the event due to bad weather on the previous two weekends! Cars were in position in the parking area on Rossall Promenade early in the morning, tables were positioned and the flags were out, and the table top sale started at 12 noon. A wide range of bric-a-brac and good quality clothes, toys and knick-knacks were sold through the afternoon to raise funds for the improvement of the public areas, and a huge ÂŁ455.44 in total was raised.

The afternoon was also a chance to introduce people to the work of the group and 23 new members were signed up, most of whom live in the area, some had moved here recently, and all of them thought that it was a worthwhile cause that they wanted to support. Rossall Beach Residents & Community Group is open to membership from anyone who uses the beach and promenade and wants to join in with its preservation and improvement for everyones enjoyment. There will be other events like this through the summer so you have still got chance to get involved. Watch the Visit Cleveleys website for dates and news all outside events are subject to weather.
