Monthly Income Lifetime Mortgages Have Arrived What are they? An Income Lifetime Mortgage allows you to release the money tied up in your property to provide you with a regular monthly income. It provides an alternative to lump sum and drawdown products for people who require the discipline of a regular income. The product allows you to take an initial loan amount, followed by a monthly income over a fixed income term of 10, 15, 20 or 25 years. The interest rate will be fixed and agreed at the outset for the life of the mortgage. This means it won’t change if rates go up or down during that period. If your circumstances change, you can choose to stop taking the income at any time, but once stopped, the regular monthly income cannot be restarted. Once the fixed income term comes to an end the monthly income will stop and interest will continue to roll up until the lifetime mortgage is repaid.

Who are they for? Income Lifetime Mortgages are designed for people who:

The minimum monthly income is £200 and minimum initial loan amount is £2,500.

Your property must be worth over £100,000 or £150,000 for exlocal authority properties.

• •

Have a need for a fixed monthly income. Require the discipline of having this paid to them automatically each month. Require the certainty of a regular monthly income in line with their lifelong routine.

Interest rates currently start at 4.24%.

Please contact David Griffin on 01253 542948 for further details.

It is not suitable for people who: • • • • •

8

Have savings or investments that can use instead. Require a guaranteed income for life. Require a lump sum greater than 10% of the total facility available to them. Have enough long-term income. Claim benefits that may be affected by taking a lifetime mortgage.

Local duo takes the lead at the Hamptons

S

uzanne Scholz and Justine Hornby have been appointed Home Manager and Deputy Manager respectively at The Hamptons Care Centre, off Heyhouses Lane, in Lytham St Annes. Local ladies, Suzanne and Justine are familiar with Lytham St Annes, having both lived, been to school and worked in the area. Together, Suzanne and Justine will be responsible for the 76 bed care home, its residents and 100-strong team. They have worked together in the past, and are a strong nursing team bringing an enormous amount of knowledge and expertise to the state-of-the-art care facility, which offers residential, nursing and dementia care services. Suzanne says: “Being local I was aware of The Hamptons and knew that it was the best care facility on the Fylde Coast, so I was thrilled to join as Home Manager.” Justine, a qualified general nurse for over 30 years, was attracted to The Hamptons’ friendly and family-orientated environment.

Suzanne Scholz & Justine Hornby

She adds: “The Hamptons has a thriving, vibrant community based on the very best quality of care, and a team with a common goal to do its very best for the benefit of all residents.”

Age is no barrier for Lytham golf enthusiasts home’s Gentleman’s Lounge to enjoy coffee, read their newspapers and discuss the day’s golf headlines and other sporting news. Around once a week, they don their golfing sweaters and head out to Royal Lytham Golf Club for a leisurely lunch and to watch some of the Club’s other members in action on the green.

P

roving that you’re never too old to pursue your passions in life, four men from The Hamptons care centre in Lytham St Annes still tee off their week with a regular visit to their favourite golf club. With a combined age of more than 320 years old, John Woods, Ron Griffiths, Lawrence Atkinson and Eddie Foulkes, meet daily in the 10

New Care’s Suzanne Scholz, Home Manager at The Hamptons, added: “It’s extremely important to us to focus on each of our residents as individuals and to help them continue with their passions and interests. John, Ron, Lawrence and Eddie, are great examples of former sports enthusiasts who have formed a great friendship and found a new lease of life channelling their shared interest in golf.”

T

rinity Hospice is looking for local star bakers who fancy their chances at being crowned the Fylde coast’s ultimate baking champion, and walking away with a top-of-the-range mixer. The Bispham based hospice has launched the first ever 'Great Fylde Coast Bake Off', which is being fronted by TV baking star Rosie Dummer from Channel 4’s Extreme Cake Makers. It’s a competition for everyone across Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre to host their own bake-off event, inviting their baking buddies to enter their most delicious creation which will then be judged by the host’s family, friends and colleagues. The winner will be invited 'The Great Fylde Coast Bake Off Grand Final', to be held at Trinity Hospice on Saturday 6th July where the overall winner, and the baker who shows the best flair for design, will be announced and presented with a Kenwood Chef XL mixer. Local hosts are asked to use their events to raise money for the hospice, either by charging a fee for bakers to enter their cakes, asking for donations from guests, by holding a raffle during their event or any other imaginative way they can to support local hospice care. Rosie, who will be chief judge at the Grand Final with a team of assistants, said 'I am so excited to be involved in this first Great Fylde Coast Bake Off. It’s such a fun way for people across the area to get involved in their local hospice, and I just can’t wait to taste the best cakes the Fylde coast has to offer.' Rosie added 'Trinity is a charity which is so close to so many people, and every penny raised through this wonderful competition will mean so much to every single person who will call for its care in years to come. Obviously I am a big fan of baking, and I know how great it is for bringing people together. I’m looking forward to hearing how the local bake off events go, and welcoming all their winners to the hospice in July for what will be a jampacked, family fun afternoon.' Rosie is also offering a helping hand by way of her recipe for mouth-watering white chocolate buttercream to everyone who signs up to host a local bake off event. Trinity’s Head of Fundraising, Linzi Warburton, said 'This competition is a first, not just for 16

Don't go Baking My Heart

Trinity Hospice, but the Fylde Coast, so we’re really excited to be launching it this year. We really hope as many people as possible sign up to host their own bake off events so we can get a real feast of cakes at our final later in the year. We’re so pleased to have Rosie and her exceptional talents join us for this competition. She really is the icing on the cake.' E

urope’s premier civilian jet formation team is to make its debut at Blackpool Air Show this summer. The Breitling Jet Team will perform an extraordinary display of high-speed aerobatics on both days of the free weekend event, Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 August. The French-based team, which has attracted huge audiences all over the world, comprises seven Albatros jets that will take part in a jawdropping display of formation flying over the iconic Blackpool seafront. They will be joined over the weekend by some of the world’s finest military and civilian aircraft. The announcement was made at the official launch of Blackpool’s tourism season at Blackpool Pleasure Beach back in March, when a whole raft of new shows, events and attractions were showcased to the 500-strong audience including: • The opening of the new four-star Boulevard Hotel at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, the latest in a series of “next generation” hotels to be built in the resort; • New weekend festivals at the Winter Gardens including Jason Manford’s Comedy Festival and the inaugural British Country Music Festival which will be headlined by the UK’s leading country artists, Ward Thomas; • A year-long programme of events to celebrate the 125th birthday of two of Blackpool’s most famous heritage assets – The Blackpool Tower and The Grand Theatre; • Significant investment at key attractions, coming hot on the heels of last year’s huge £18m investment in the thrilling ICON rollercoaster at Pleasure Beach and a £5m elephant house attraction at Blackpool Zoo; • The return of the Livewire Festival, a four-day programme of music and entertainment over the August Bank Holiday weekend on the 20,000-capacity Tower Festival Headland, a unique outdoor venue that has already hosted the likes of Will Smith, Britney Spears and Elton John; • Investment of almost £1m in events, guides, infrastructure and training to make Blackpool one of the country’s most accessible destinations for disabled people. The audience heard that in addition to major 18

Back in Blackpool annual events such as the Blackpool Air Show, World Fireworks Championship Blackpool, Ride the Lights and the switch-on of the world-famous Blackpool Illuminations, the 2019 season would also include a new-look Pride Festival and the inaugural Night Run – an opportunity to run under the Lights on a trafficfree Promenade. Blackpool will once again host the UK’s only Nickelodeon SLIMEFEST shows over the October half-term with the six concerts already close to selling out, and the resort will stage some of theatre-land’s best-known productions including Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap, Kinky Boots, Motown The Musical, Little Miss Sunshine and Calendar Girls. A VisitBlackpool spokesperson said 'We are delighted to be able to unveil a whole raft of new shows and events that will provide yet more compelling reasons for visitors to come here. Blackpool prides itself on never standing still and continually improving the tourism offer. This coming year will see by far the biggest events programme we have ever delivered and much of it is free to access. The Blackpool debut of the Breitling Jet Team is something not to be missed.' Marketing of the destination will be led by VisitBlackpool, Merlin Entertainments and Blackpool Pleasure Beach, supported by other key partners. A £500k campaign under the Blackpool Has It All title will include TV and outdoor advertising as well as extensive digital and PR activity.

Caring for your pet food, playing with their favourite toy or even just getting petted if that’s what they love the most. 2. Keep it short and sweet Doing training sessions little and often maintains the fun and can help avoid you and your dog becoming frustrated. 10 minutes is about as much as most dogs will want to do per session. Always end on a high with something your dog is already super good at!

Springing into longer days PDSA offers top training tips as 1.4 million dogs receive no training

A

t last the days are getting longer and spring finally feels like it’s here. And with more light, many dog owners will be looking forward to longer evening walks with their pet. PDSA’s latest PAW Report found that 1.1 million UK dogs have received absolutely no training*, so the vet charity is urging pet owners to use the longer, lighter evening to spend time training their four-legged friend. PDSA Vet, Olivia Anderson-Nathan, says ‘Now is a great time of year to make sure your dog has a basic level of obedience for when you are out and about as you can practice outside as well as in. Having a well-trained dog is important to help them understand what you expect and also as a bit of mental exercise, but it also helps keep them safe. For example, good recall can allow your dog to enjoy some much-needed time off the lead, and good walking “manners” can keep them safe near roads. Training gives you a deeper understanding of your dog and can be started at any age. It really is possible to teach an old dog new tricks, though it can take longer to change those ingrained habits.’ PDSA’s top training advice: 1. Make it rewarding Make sure that the reward is something your dog will really enjoy, such as a small piece of

3. Clear commands Always use the same word for each command and accompany with a hand signal to avoid confusion. Be consistent with what you are asking for, and how you are asking for it. 4. Practice makes perfect Your dog probably won’t understand a new command first time, but with repetition, patience and positivity they will learn over time. For more complicated tricks, you might need to get advice from a trainer if you’re getting stuck. 5. Ignore mistakes Some dogs will make mistakes. It’s not their fault and it doesn’t mean they can’t learn the task, they might just need more practice. Ignore mistakes and reward instead whenever they do get it right. 6. Keep it positive Some owners think dogs respond to shouting, intimidation or, worse, smacking them. But they’ll also learn to be scared of you, and will perform the tasks out of fear or worry about punishment, and not because they want to. 7. Get everyone on board Everyone who comes into contact with your pet should be following your example by praising correct behaviour, using the same commands and ignoring mistakes. 8. A note on nibbles Dog and cat obesity is a big problem, so avoid creating a wellbehaved but overweight pet. If you’re using treats for training, always take a portion from their normal food allowance so you can make sure they don’t go over on their calorie intake. You don’t need to reward them with a treat every single time they do a trick right – in fact rewarding them sometimes and just praising them the rest of the time once they’ve mastered it will actually make them more keen to perform. Dog training classes are a great way to learn how to train your dog. The Association of Pet Dog Trainers (www.apdt.co.uk) use only positive, proven methods and can recommend a trainer in your area. PDSA’s website also includes lots of information about training and socialisation. www.pdsa.org.uk/dogbehaviour

O

ur goal, and making a direct difference plan is to provide every school with a Teacher Programme, that will make a direct difference with Bullying and mental health issues. Already with some local awareness, we have had individual schools directly sponsored, over 80 in the FY postcode. Some people have directly sponsored their old school that they went to as a child and some have sponsored the school their children go to, we have had also some local businesses that have sponsored school. It cost just £100 per school and that gives all the teachers and staff unlimited access to the training. They will also receive on-going training free as we will be fundraising to make this happen. I have been fundraising with different events in order to cover school my last event sponsored Royals brook in Thornton, Thornton primary school and Stanah school in Thornton. I now have come up with the idea of recycling boxes for schools and businesses in the hope children will now also get on board to stamp out bullying, I have placed these boxes in some schools and local business you can take your old used stamps, broken phones, cameras,

MADD about bullying laptops costume jewellery old coins, foreign coins and much more. The target is one school at a time, until every school is covered. We are passionate about getting the children involved being bullying and its effects to the forefront of their minds helping to raise funds through my boxes by just taking used old stamps into the collection points or their school If any school or business would like a recyeling box or tub please contact - Michelle 07506106853 or email ladymichelleann1965@gmail.com
