Cloudy2Clear Windows – Service With A Smile!

It’s been a crazy few months for Cloudy2Clear Windows. The company which specialises in repairing windows which are steamed up, broken or damaged by replacing the panes – not the frames has grown rapidly as homeowners take advantage of their services. Branch Manager Roger Bonnick feels that it’s all about service. ‘Our product is simple. If your double glazing is misted up we can replace the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new 5 year guarantee. But it’s not just about saving people money, although that obviously helps. Many

tradespeople have struggled since last year and I honestly feel that during the good times a minority perhaps didn’t focus on customer care as much as they should have done. We make sure we turn up when we say we will, do the job the customer requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle. I often get comments back from customers on how they really didn’t expect that sort of service which, in a way, is very sad for the service industry as a whole.’ Cloudy2Clear service the Lancaster, Morecambe & Carnforth areas and Roger is finding that his approach is a major factor

in his success. ‘The truth is that it’s not just the personal satisfaction that I get from doing a good job but also it makes good business sense. I get a huge amount of business from friends and family of people I’ve done work for,

which just goes to show how much a little bit of effort is appreciated.’ So, if your windows are steamed up, broken or damaged give Roger a call for a free quotation on 0800 61 21 118 and he’ll be happy to help!

Eric Ollerenshaw’s Column Eric Ollerenshaw OBE MP. Member of Parliament for Lancaster & Fleetwood

The New Year has so far been a busy one – with several Ministers accepting my invite to look at local projects – which then helps me keep Fleetwood firmly in the fore with Government. Nick Boles MP, Minister for Skills, did a visit to the Nautical College to see how the £18m refurbishment has gone and to discuss its expansion as part of Britain’s first energy college for unconventional gas. Nick was also keen to hear about the vocational courses that are on offer – particularly with the College’s impressive graduation to employment record. Another case in point was when Penny Mordaunt MP, Minister for Communities came to Fleetwood to take a look around the site of the proposed Fish Park. I know that she was impressed with the proposal for a new Fish Park here in Fleetwood and clearly others were as well, as the week following the visit it was finally announced that the Government had given it the go ahead.

Reform Energy, who put the bid together with the support of Wyre Council, will be receiving £2.5m from the Regional Growth Fund to kick start the new Fish Park, which will not only protect existing jobs but allow our thriving fish processors to expand – creating additional local jobs. At the same time this will allow new developments around the old fish dock, so to say I am delighted is an understatement as I really do think the Fish Park is the start of better things to come!”

Lancaster Music Festival’s Success Brings Invite to No. 10. Lancaster Music Festival saw an estimated £1m boost to the city’s economy in October 2014 from a tiny production budget of less than £30K using a unique business approach that eschews all public funding. The success of this approach attracted the interest of local MP Eric Ollerenshaw resulting in an invite from PM David Cameron to a reception at No. 10 for community champions. Lancaster Music Festival has hosted a long weekend of music in the historic market city of Lancaster annually since 2009. Each year the festival has grown and thanks to support from the Lancaster Business Improvement District (BID) attendance is at an all-time high with estimates of 36,000 attendees in 2014 and over £900,000 boost to the local economy on a tiny production budget of less than £30K. To avoid reliance on notoriously fickle funding sources the funding of the festival is almost entirely from within the city and none of it comes from public money. Also, the organisers believe that because the festival supports businesses in the form of music venues and musicians as such it should be run as a business itself with a community aim and not as a charity as so many similar events are. 16

It is the manifest success of this approach that resulted in festival coordinator and founder Benjamin Ruth receiving an invite by the PM David Cameron to attend a reception at 10 Downing Street for community champions. Says Mr. Ruth: ‘I was having a bath at the time and opening reams of mail after returning from a hiking holiday when I came upon an official looking letter. Expecting the worst I opened it only to read “The Prime Minister requests the pleasure of your company at No. 10 Downing Street on Jan. 5th, 5.45pm.” I nearly dropped the thing in the bath! At the bottom it said “Dress: Lounge Suit” and to be honest, I didn’t actually know what a lounge suit was which resulted in an interesting series of posts on social media.’ Obtaining advice and suitable attire from local upmarket clothes shop Joseph’s of Lancaster

completely absent from the whole affair.’ Afterwards, during the obligatory photos outside the door I had to of course play my harmonica. About twenty seconds into a minor soliloquy the door opened and a security chap tapped me on the shoulder and politely stated “Excuse me sir, can you keep it down. You’re waking the kids”. To which I complied adding of course that next week it would be the band. Then it was off to the Parliament Terrace bar.’ ‘It says something about our society that you can work hard for the greater good (and there was at least six other people in our team who should have been there with me) and that if your approach is innovative and/or of particular impact you can have your voice heard at the highest level.’ Mr Ruth concluded. and a haircut from Lancaster’s Esquires for Gentlemen Mr. Ruth then had the dilemma of footwear to consider but was assured by the tailor that the current bootage was the correct look. Mr. Ruth: ‘It was a wonderful reception. Everyone was really friendly and chatty including the staff. It was strangely relaxing and very welcoming. The wine was excellent though I had some difficulty keeping up with the MP in that regard! I think it’s fair to say I was the only one there with Cuban heels with steel toe caps, which, incidentally were secured with black gaffer tape.’ He continued: ‘Mr. Cameron himself had the ability of being able to chat to you and appear 100% focused and interested in what you had to say. That alone was an education. I politely pointed out that Lancaster had been doing Big Society long before his lot came in to which he good humouredly replied “Well, actually it wasn’t my idea and I’ve just had a chat with a vicar five minutes ago pointing out that Jesus came up with the concept some two thousand years ago. The PM’s speech was considerate and appreciative, thanking us all for our service to community and exhorting us to badger our MPs for any help and assistance. It was particularly refreshing that politicking appeared

Now fairly confident that the Festival has gotten the official stamp of Government approval at the highest level the team are already actively planning this year’s event building on the success of 2014. The dates for this year’s festival are October 8th through 12th with the event billed as Lancaster’s Unofficial Bank Holiday for the second year running. General enquiries to: info@ lancastermusicfestival.com. Please note: Music applications for 2015 can be made via the website at www. lancastermusicfestival.com FESTIVAL TESTIMONIALS: “My best festival of the year for the second year running” Nick Lakin, Lancaster Guardian, 16th Oct. 2014 “I’ve found some new bands to love because of this festival, it was rammed everywhere! Thanks.” Local festival-goer from Lancaster “You helped make Lancaster a much better place to visit! Brilliant!” Visitor from Manchester “Your festival was awesome! We can’t wait to be back next year” Andria Simone (Toronto)

Why should you install a Resin Drive? That’s simple; our product naturally drains water through the finished surface which means no more puddles. It is also resistant to frost attack, hence giving it all round better traction for tyres and making it better for walking on. Last but not least its up to 10 times more eco friendly than concrete. And don’t forget, we have a great colour range to choose from to give it your personal touch!

Or Try Our New Overlay System If your budget doesn’t quite stretch to a full Resin Drive install then why not try our new super cost effective Overlay System? Call the number below or visit our website to find out more.
