HOW TO AVOID HOLIDAY WEIGHT GAIN by health and fitness expert, Pam Tribick. Over-indulging at Christmas can leave us feeling fat and bloated: waistlines increase and clothes feel tighter. But it’s the wrong time of year to try and lose pounds so aim to maintain your weight – keeping weight under control is easier than trying to lose it afterwards. By following some simple tips you can still enjoy the festive season without feeling deprived. At a buffet: -Use a side plate not a dinner plate and avoid stockpiling food. -Don’t hang around the buffet table picking, move away. -Battered, breadcrumbed, pastry, creamy = high fat = weight gain. Eating out: -Share a starter or a dessert. -Opt for boiled/steamed/grilled dishes instead of fried. -Order salad or more vegetables instead of chips. Eating at home: -If you pick while you’re preparing food, have healthy low-fat food to hand -To avoid temptation, keep all the fattening Xmas goodies out if sight unless you have guests -If you feel full but still have food on your plate, don’t dig in and finish it, put it in the waste not on the waist - that goes for the kid’s leftovers as well! Other tips: -Have a healthy snack before eating out so you won’t arrive too hungry and binge -Drinking water before and during a meal can help you feel fuller so you eat less -Trim the portion size, trim the fat, trim your waist And remember exercise. Exercise works and the more you exercise the more it works. By making a few small changes you’ll be surprise how you can eat, drink and be merry during the Christmas season and still avoid excessive weight gain.

Bispham, Junior FOOTBALL Federation BJFF
During November, Bispham Junior Football Federation (BJFF) kicked-off our new Football For ALL initiative, with 7 youngsters (aged 4-7) attending the first session, and 13 (aged 4-10) attending the second session. With the weather conditions being far from perfect, both sessions were held indoors at our Club House (on the corner of Carr Road / Kelvin Road). It was great to see the enthusiasm of our new starters, and their parents, who were very supportive of all of the children, not just their own. The first winner of our Penalty King award was Neo Dervis has, who was thrilled to receive a medal at his first training session.
Tuesday 24th November, raising in excess of ÂŁ300 for the Club. We are grateful to the Red Lion for their continued support. A party of 100 plus players and parents enjoyed a trip to Fleetwood Town to watch the Cod Army take on Redditch United in a Blue Square Conference North fixture - and what a game it turned out with the home side running out 8-0 winners. A number of the children enjoyed getting autographs from the players and management.
Looking forward into December, and plans are being made for our Childrens Xmas Party, on Saturday 5th December (2pm til 4pm in Our Football For ALL initiative is held every the Club House) and for our Adults Xmas SUNDAY morning, from 10:30am - Midday. ALL Party, at Poulton Golf Club on Friday 11th children aged 4 - 10 are welcome (BOYS and December (19:30 onwards, with bar extension GIRLS) - you can simply turn up at the Club til 1am, buffet, band and DJ).
