Wondering how to celebrate Halloween in style this year? Well wonder no more! After the huge success of last year, Farmer Parrs Animal World in Fleetwood is really going to town this Halloween – by day and by night!! With 2 evening ‗Farmer Parr-a-Normal Parties‘ on 30th and 31st Oct. Last year only one evening party was held but it was a sell out success and both children and parents had a spook-tastic time. At the evening events guests will be able to see the haunted museum in all its terrifying glory with guided rope tours – let go of the rope if you dare – last year a whole host of ghosts and ghouls turned up and thoroughly terrorised the party goers – dare you join the ghost trail? In addition this year there will be a zone called the ‗‘Panic Room‘ – a section of the barn has been set aside especially to terrify farm visitors – enter at your peril. This section may not be suitable for very young children! It will be open for the evening parties and at intervals during the day throughout half term. There will also be scary stories, meet the owls in the witches house, dancing, apple bobbing, lucky dip and much more. Come in Halloween costume, strut your stuff on the catwalk and you might win a prize in our Fancy dress competition – the standard last year was fantastic (evening events only). Bring along a carved pumpkin and you can also enter the pumpkin competition to win a pumpkin-tastic prize. If you‘re not up for a big evening event but still wish to get into the spirit of things why not visit during the day – there will be plenty of HORRID things to see and do, plus all the usual daily events and farm fun. Children in Halloween costume can visit for free over the half-term week (when accompanied by an adult) so get into the spirit of things and fly down to Farmer Parrs – (free entry offer does not apply for evening parties). EEE BYYE GUM!

THORNTON-CLEVELEYS AMATEUR RADIO SOCIETY (TCARS) The Society was founded in 1969 following an inaugural meeting in August of the founder members who set up the Society to promote the hobby of amateur radio and celebrates its‘ 40th Anniversary this year. The photograph below shows a picture taken of the founder members. The Society will be hosting an Open Day for the public to come and see what amateur radio is all about on Saturday the 24th October 2009 at the United Reform Church on Rossall Road Cleveleys from 9am to 5pm. There will be displays of equipment and stations operating on H.F. and V.H.F. on phone as well as a demonstration of Slow Scan T.V. (sending pictures by radio) We will be exchanging commemorative QSL cards (contact confirmation cards) with all the stations that we work as a memento. Come and have a cuppa and a biscuit with us and discuss our society and its activities. We welcome both young and old, people interested in the hobby and past licence's who have a desire to come back to amateur radio again. There will be handouts and leaflets and plenty off time to ask questions relating to the new licence structure and how to get started in the hobby. Our tastes are eclectic and we welcome anyone with an interest in electronics and radio. Don‘t feel that you will be left out if you are a beginner, or want to learn from the base up, we are a very easy going society and will give you all the help you need to gain the exam pass to becoming a radio amateur. The new telephone 'scam' I received a call from a 'representative' of BT, informing me that he was dis-connecting me because of an unpaid bill. He demanded payment immediately of ÂŁ31.00 , or it would be ÂŁ 118.00 to re-connect at a later date. The guy wasn't even fazed when I told him I was with Virgin Media, allegedly VM have to pay BT a percentage for line rental! I asked the guy's name - the very 'English' John Peacock with a very 'African' accent - & phone number - 0800 0800 152. Obviously the guy realized I wasn't believing his story, so offered to demonstrate that he was from BT. I asked how & he told me to hang up & try phoning someone - he would dis-connect my phone to prevent this. AND HE DID !! My phone was dead - no engaged tone, nothing - until he phoned me again. Very pleased with himself, he asked if that was enough proof that he was with BT. I asked how the payment was to be made & he said credit card, there& then. I said that I didn't know how he'd done it, but I had absolutely no intention of paying him , I didn't believe his name or that he worked for BT. He hung up. Did 1471 & phoned his fictitious 0800 number not recognised. I phoned the police to let them know , I wasn't the first! It's only just started apparently but it is escalating. Their advice was to let as many people know byword of mouth of this scam. The fact that the phone does go off would probably convince some people it's real, so please let as many friends &family aware of this. This is good but not that clever. He gave the wrong number - it should have been 0800 800152 which takes you through to BT Business. The cutting off of the line is very simple , he stays on the line with the mute button on and you can't dial out - but he can hear to trying (This is because the person who initiates a call is the one to terminate it). When you stop trying he cuts off and immediately calls back. You could almost be convinced! The sad thing is that it is so simple that it will certainly fool the elderly and vulnerable.

THORNTON CLEVELEYS FC

LINK-Magazine Red Hot Thornton Go Goal Crazy Thornton Cleveleys Seniors 1st team have been in fine goal scoring form hitting 23 goals in their last 3 outings, conceding only two along the way. The home league fixture on 5th September saw Thornton Cleveleys put double figures past West Lancs Division 1 side Croshills. They were the unlucky recipients of a 13-0 mauling as Craig Franklyn and Paul Bailey both netted hat-tricks - only to be outdone on the day by Chris Matthews with a four goal haul .Anthony Warwick (2) and Daz Hall(1) also found themselves on the score sheet in the rout. Buoyed by this victory Thornton found themselves back amongst the goals one week later at New Bourne Park as they put 8 past Bolton County without reply in the Lancashire Amateur Shield. Brett Dawson, Craig Franklyn and Anthony Warwick bagged braces with Mark Davis and Daz Hall grabbing a goal apiece. A disappointing 2-2 draw away to Hesketh Bank brought them back down to earth on September 19th in a game that on paper was there for the taking. On the day however perhaps it was more a point gained rather than two lost as the performance was not one to savour for John Mendonca and his team. The result left them lying in fourth place with 5 games played and a very healthy goal difference; A position that pleases manager Mendonca. ―The season has gone pretty much according to plan so far albeit I was disappointed with the draw against Hesketh Bank. We can take heart however with the amount of goals we have scored so early on in the season as well as the fact we have conceded very few at the other end. ‖ Another clean sheet on September 27th, a 0-2 win away to Mill Hill St Peters, took the Reds up to third place in the table. A tough trip to Slyne with Hest who currently lie in second place follows on October 3rd with Thornton hoping to leap frog their opponents to consolidate their position in the top four and narrow the gap between themselves and the league leaders. 10th

The and the October sees the return of Thornton Cleveleys Seniors 1st team to New Bourne Park with home league games v Hawcoat Park and Wyre Villa a fortnight later. Commenting on the games already played at home Mendonca is keen to point out that whilst he is happy with the home support his team has enjoyed so far this season he is

still hoping to attract even more fans to watch the quality football that is on offer. ―Admission to all Seniors games is free of charge and you can still keep up-to-date with scores from around the country with all televised Premiership and Championship games being screened live in TC‘s sports bar whilst watching the best of local Saturday league football.‖ As an added incentive in conjunction with LinkThornton Cleveleys, all supporters new and old are invited to enjoy a pint on us whilst attending any home Seniors fixtures during October (Available between 3pm – 5pm on selected beers only) 1
