THE PERFECT CHRISTMAS DINNER As we hit the festive season we look at the latest Christmas dinner trends and explore the best way to cook your turkey, goose or even rabbit this year.
Cider roast turkey (From BBC Good Food Magazine) For the turkey: 4.5 to 6kg turkey, giblets removed and kept 450g stuffing 2 leeks, trimmed and halved 2 carrots, halved 50g butter, softened 300ml dry cider For the gravy: 300ml dry cider 600ml chicken stock 2tbsp quince or redcurrant jelly Heat oven to 190C/fan 170C/gas 5. Wash and dry the turkey, removing any feathers. Pull out the giblets and the neck, then set aside. Lift up the skin that covers the neck opening, then stuff the stuffing up and under the skin, securing it tightly underneath with a skewer or two cocktail sticks. Weigh the stuffed turkey. In a poll of 2,400 readers, BBC Good Food Magazine found that turkey is still the most popular centre-piece. To test that the turkey is ready, pierce the thigh through its thickest part; the juices should run clear. Take the turkey out and leave to rest, covered with a clean tea towel. Music Making for Young People with Disabilities Thanks to Aiming High for Disabled Children funding, young people from all across Lancashire with disabilities are invited to take part in a range of free music making activities right across the county. More Music based in Morecambe, working with Lancashire’s Cultural Youth Offer, have recently been awarded further funding from Lancashire County Council to run a programme of positive activities for young people with disabilities. There are a wide range of library venues hosting sessions (including Upholland, Burnley, Chorley, Accrington and Nelson,) as well as taking place at More Music’s home in the West End of Morecambe – The Hothouse. More Music has added Fleetwood and Thornton library to their dates this term and will be continuing work here for the next term. The sessions will run on Saturdays and in school holidays running from now through to March 2011. Sessions are free, but registration is essential. Young people can attend as many or as few sessions as they like. Log onto More Music’s website for more details www.moremusic.org.uk. The details of these sessions can also be found on the Aiming High website through Lancashire County Council. Kerry Kalokoh the project manager said “We are very proud to be running this project again this year and rolling out to more places in the county. It’s a wonderful project that gives young people with disabilities access to first class music making sessions tailored to their needs, that are fun and inclusive. The sessions are also designed to give the parents
or carers a break so support workers will be brought in specifically to meet the needs of the young people in the group. But, if parents or carers want to come along and join in they are more than welcome to attend. The sessions are open to 11-18 year olds with any kind of disability or additional need. If parents or carers have any question, please contact me directly and I will be happy to help.” Stewart Parsons Lancashire County Cultural Youth Offer Project Officer says “The Lancashire Libraries' Cultural Youth Offer blends perfectly with More Music's aims and objectives. This project is a perfect opportunity to create an easy access platform where these shared values can deliver brilliant experiences for young people, and allow disabled young people a wonderful opportunity to make music in the most wonderfully cultural of all venues - a library. It allows libraries to work to their full cultural capacity and allows young people a brilliant time in a library through the power of music. All the young people involved will emerge from the library, hopefully better skilled, and in a better frame of mind and that is what the power of music can afford. More Music' s youth music expertise combined with libraries high quality, easy access venues will showcase the Aiming High project to its best advantage.” Workshops will be delivered by a wide variety of artists who deliver lively and fun percussion.

Happy Christmas to you all! Glad tidings I bring yet again with damage and anti social behaviour (ASB) rates still falling dramatically, thanks to the continued hard work of your PCSO’s who have made Fleetwood a much safer place to be. The main thorn in the side of Warren Ward area has had his jail term extended following being convicted of further offences. He had been causing a large proportion of the ASB there but was finally imprisoned a couple of months ago. Since that time we have been able to prove other offences against him, which he had committed prior to being jailed and as a result the Ward will be a more peaceful place this Christmas. In the last month we have dealt with both Hallowe’en and Bonfire Night. The interventions we had in place, through PCSO activities, ensured there was no increase in ASB in Fleetwood over this period. For example PCSO’s and Fire Service staff worked together in the schools to educate children on the dangers and consequences. We altered shift patterns at key times to prevent incidents, notably arresting a key ASB offender very early in the evening on Bonfire Night, which prevented him from getting involved in the bad behaviour he had been planning. We also identified and arrested a man for illegally selling fireworks from the back of his van, which was followed up with searches of his home. We have implemented new shift rotas for all police officers and PCSO’s in Neighbourhood Policing, which now means fifty percent more staff working at peak ASB times. Response officers have also begun a new shift rota and this combined increase in officer availability has allowed us to execute six drug warrants across the town. Most of the information allowing us to do this came from you and from the patrolling PCSO’s. I mentioned last month about a rise in stealing from vehicles across Fleetwood and can now report back that we have made 3 arrests since then and a number of charges have been laid. However it is really important you remain vigilant and not get complacent. With Christmas upon us, we will all be getting additional valuable presents in our homes and cars ready to send off to the North Pole. Keep them all well out of view and take time to review your own security, lock all doors and windows, put lights and radios on timers and use your alarms. Please keep letting us know of your concerns and suspicions, we act on all information you provide. You can contact us at your local PACT meetings, by telephoning or calling in at the police station or, if you prefer, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, you can remain anonymous and may get a reward. Thank you. Sgt David Blight, Fleetwood Neighbourhood Policing Team

“I’m looking forward to joining Eric on the training pitch and seeing how he works and how it’s different to what we do at Tranmere. Eric had a few hundred appearances at Prenton Park and that’s my aim as well. “It will be good to see how Scott works and push him to see if I can get a game. I know he’s playing well so that will be a challenge to me as well,” said Coughlin. Oldham Athletic loan signing Jon Worthington joins Boundary Park teammate Sean Gregan at Highbury. The midfielder said he is looking forward to being part of the Highbury success story. “I’m want to enjoy playing some football and be involved in what is happening at the club. I’d like to say I will be able to bring some experience and drive in midfield.” Keeper Danny Hurst, sidelined since August with a serious shoulder injury, has returned to training. Hurst was injured in the away draw at Crawley Town and required surgery to repair his damaged shoulder.
“I’m looking to return to full training towards the end of December. My fitness levels are ok but Micky Mellon has allowed four of squad to go out on I can’t test the shoulder loan to gain match fitness and secure regular games. just yet” said Hurst. 8 Ian Craney On loan at Accrington Stanley 13 Simon Grand On loan at Mansfield Town 14 Steve Connors On loan at Droylsden 27 Mark Beesley On loan at Altrincham 28 Craig Dootson (gk) On loan from Harrogate Town until 12/12/10 On loan from Oldham Athletic 29 Sean Gregan 31 John Worthington On loan from Oldham Athletic 32 Andy Coughlin (gk) Work experience from Tranmere Rovers LOAN NEWS
Meanwhile, left-back Junior Brown is looking to return from his troublesome knee injury. “I’m feeling stronger all the time. The work load in training has been increasing in recent weeks and I hope to figure soon. The lft-back slot has been something of a problem this season with injuries and I hope to put a claim on the shirt once I’m fully fit,” said Brown.
Micky Mellon has brought Tranmere Rovers prospect Andy Coughlin, 17, to Highbury as backup to keeper Scott Davies.
