Postcard from Fleetwood You can’t blame me for once again starting by talking about the weather, and my sympathy goes out to all the people who have organised events this ‘summer’ to have them cancelled. The great sense of community spirit that exists on the Fylde Coast is one thing that I really like about the place, and it’s a shame that months of planning have been a washout. Even the Olympic Torch blew out briefly – and the day of fun planned for Fleetwood saw all the events cancelled and the Relay rerouted to avoid most dangerous spots created by the weather. Fingers are crossed for the weather for Tram Sunday – set to happen just after writing this! Fleetwood Chamber of Trade have been hard at it for months with the organisation – the event draws thousands of people to Fleetwood – who will hopefully return again after the event.

The Mount Pavilion A chance to admire fantastic views of Morecambe Bay and the Pennine Hills from the balcony, even the Isle of Man on a clear day. NCI Rossall Point Observatory The National Coastwatch Institution (NCI) is a voluntary organisation set up in 1994 to restore disused stations all along the UK shores. Fleetwood Masonic Hall Although Freemasonry has flourished in Fleetwood since 1863 when the first lodge, Hesketh Lodge, named after Fleetwood’s founder was formed, it was not until March 1956 that local Masons moved into the Masonic Hall on the town’s Esplanade. Formerly a 17 bedroom orphanage, it has been transformed into a building which visitors are welcome to enjoy as part of the Heritage Week tour. She will stay in training at Spigot Lodge and will now race in our name and colours. Guru Girl won twice last year at Ascot and Thirsk and finished 2nd in a very hot 0-95 Nursery at Haydock winning over £17,000 in prize money. Karl reports her to be working well and about 7-10 days away from racing. We are prepared to offer shares in Guru Girl for the very special rate of a one off payment of £210 for a 2.5% share. Hello You may have seen some press recently about a closure order being granted at a flat on Shakespeare Road. Nearby residents have endured months of misery caused from the tenants and visitors of the subject flat. Police now have possession of the flat for a period of three months during which no-one is permitted to enter it. Unfortunately the same anti social behaviour continues in the flat above the one closed down and we are now pursuing a second closure order as quickly as possible. The residents in this area should not have to live with this on their door step and we will do everything we can to eradicate it.

Fleetwood Museum News Fleetwood Museum will see a hive of children’s activity during August. For some years the children’s craft sessions have been a popular feature of the school summer holidays. Once again Fleetwood Museum will be hosting Wednesday craft sessions during August. Sessions run from 12.30 to 13.30 and from 14.00 to 15.00. Sessions cost £1. Please ring in advance to book (01253 876621). All children need to be accompanied during activities. • August 1st – Mr. Punch’s Crocodile make your own puppet complete with sausages! • August 8th – Grab a Crab design and make a magnetic fishing game. • August 15th – Krazee Kites Make your own flying creation all you will need is a good wind to fly it.
• August 22nd – Sandcastles – build your own indoor sandcastle using recycled card. • August 29th – Flying Seagulls craft a flying seagull or seagull mobile. After what has proved to be a disappointing summer for weather, hopefully the long summer holiday will see a return to sunshine!
