History Of Fleetwood Docks displayed on rare glass negatives A collection of over 80 glass films were salvaged from a demolition site and have been carefully restored both in plate condition and preserved in digital format, to provide a stunning collection of historic images of the Fleetwood (Wyre) Dock from the late 1800’s to circa 1924. The digital images are perfect examples of the heritage of Fleetwood’s Trawler fleet and the workers servicing this once thriving fishing and coal industry. Each glass plate has been carefully scanned and logged to form a list with specific details such as buildings and boats recorded. Progress is now being made to identify each of the buildings and the names of boats in the picture. Each boat has a tale to tell, some
being lost at sea with all hands as they acted as escorts in the war, or those that fell victim to the power of the storms. Some of course lasted until they were scrapped and the one many people from Fleetwood will know – the Jacinta, on display for all to see. Harbour Prints is a new company formed to publish these photographs in poster format, with special requests such as prints on canvas and a selection of postcards also available. As a Fleetwood based company we are proud of our connection to the fishing industry and the sea, members of the companies family were heavily involved with the fishing industry and comment ‘as children we all enjoyed the stories of life at sea from our Granddad’. With that in mind we would also like to invite people to get in touch through the website and tell their story, so we can share it with others.
