We are also happy to consider other peoples products to sell in our shop. Just as long as the product meets our standards of quality and safety. If you make something as a hobby and fancy turning it into a little business please pop in and speak to Louise and see if we can help We are going to have the opening of the new shop on north mount street on the 3RD of March When we will be serving some fizzy stuff and nibbles. FLEETWOOD MAGAZINE

MARCH 2012

Hello and welcome to the March edition of LINK-Magazine. I hope you’re well as I know the weather has been cold of late. I’m sure that, like me, your heating bill is through the roof and your garden is in dire need of attention. However we can all look forward to the mild spring weather. Fast approaching is Mother’s Day on the 18th March, followed closely by Easter in early April. Both are causes for celebration I’m sure you will agree. I’d just like to mention Make a Dream who, since our last edition, have raised over £11,000. Everybody at LINK-Magazine would like to say a huge thank you to all those who donated, and to those who also joined the Facebook group. Look out for your chance to WIN TWO FREE Tickets to watch McFly and The Wanted at Blackpool’s Festival Headland event. You can find out how to enter inside the magazine.

Chinese Antiques Market Booming!!! £2000 for Blue and White Chinese Jar £1300 for Chinese Sceptre

The rapid growth of the Chinese economy over the last few years has now resulted in a massive demand for good quality Chinese antiques, with many of the better off Chinese attempting to buy back some of their” heritage”, in other words, some of the high quality items historically exported/ plundered over the last four hundred years. It is this rapidly increasing demand that has caused a continual upsurge in prices at antique auctions all over the UK, with some of the buyers being Chinese based in China and others all over the world. It is also the development of the internet, which has resulted in many auctioneers, becoming truly international, including Gerrards, where their Chinese sales have recently grown in value and volume, for example, the Chinese Blue and White Jar and Chinese Ruyi Sceptre, featured in the two photographs, would have fetched a few hundred pounds a year ago. So, if you have any pieces of Chinese porcelain or other interesting Chinese items (and most of us have something like this in a cupboard or in the attic), now is the time to let the experts at Gerrards have a look at it, to see if you can take advantage of the current trend, by placing it in auction, with a protective reserve price.

THE MOUNT RACING CLUB NEWS UPDATE

LORD LANSING WINS IN FRANCE The Mount Racing Club had the perfect start to 2012 when their horse Lord Lansing travelled over to Deauville in France on Saturday 7th Jan and won in impressive style under a confident ride from French champion jockey Ioritz Mendizabel. It was a pleasing run and a well deserved victory for Lord Lansing who has been in great form finishing 2nd, 2nd and 3rd in his last 3 races, such was the manner of his victory that he attracted a lot of interest from perspective buyers after the race and was eventually claimed by a Belgium trainer for 10,000 Euros. It was also a good result for syndicate managers Geoff Holden and Andy Eaton who with the guidance of trainer Karl Burke had taken the decision to seek out the race in France, a decision that rewarded all their fellow syndicate members handsomely. The result comes on the back of some more good news for the locally based club as they unveil their new purchase of a beautifully bred 2yo Colt by Firebreak who will again be trained by Group 1 winning trainer Karl Burke. He’s 16

a 3 part brother to an 85 rated 2yo that Karl has trained previously called Paradise Spectre and has now been fully broken in and ridden away, everyone has been really pleased with his progress so far and he looks a really nice prospect for 2012. The team have named him LOKI after the Viking God of fire which is an obvious link to his Sire and hope to see him on a racecourse from May onwards. We are currently in talks with Karl about bringing in a new horse as a replacement for Lord Lansing and one that will hopefully be ready to run on the opening day of the new Turf Flat season at Doncaster on Saturday March 31st. There are a whole host of Share packages available in our horses with prices to suit all budgets and anyone who wants to know more can find out by visiting the website www. themountracingclub.co.uk or alternatively they can contact Geoff 07852 153969 or Andy 07940 202312 for further details. Fleewood News

What’s happening in Fleetwood? Work is well underway at Rossall Point as the top of the Coastguard tower has disappeared, in preparation for building work to start on the new iconic tower. The clinic at the dock is changing shape on a daily basis, and the Marine Hall Gardens are looking stunning. We still don’t know yet exactly where the Olympic Torch will go on 22 June, but one thing is for sure, it will be a big day for Fleetwood! As will the return of the trams sometime this Spring. You can see the residual works along the tram tracks and at stations starting to come to a close, and normal street scenes starting to be returned. Fleetwood will certainly be glad to see the return of this major form of transport – and the people that it brings with it! While the trams are out of action, it’s important that people support their local shopping centre. There is a really good selection of shops in Fleetwood, where you can buy pretty much most things at independents and high street shops, plus of course at the market. Keep spending your money in the town centre to keep these shops open for the future!

Mick and Paddy had promised their uncle Seamus, who had been a seafaring gent all his life, to bury him at sea when he died. Of course, in due time, he did pass away and the boys kept their promise. They set off with Uncle Seamus all stitched up in a burial bag and loaded onto their rowboat. After a while Mick says, ‘Do yer tink dis is fer enuff out, Paddy?’ Without a word Paddy slips over the side, only to find himself standing in water up to his knees. ‘Dis’ll neva do, Mick. Hello Fleetwood Police are part way through an Operation which has seen extra resources being put into the town to combat a slight increase in crime, which centres around acquisitive crimes, evidently an increase in theft of metal items. You will probably have noticed an increased visibility of officers deployed on foot patrol throughout the town. Within this crime crackdown, many offences are being tackled. Handling stolen goods is a crime, if you knowingly receive a stolen item then you too will face the prospect of being arrested, a court appearance, a criminal conviction!! If its being sold cheap, there’s a reason, its broken or its nicked!! There will be no let up in our determination to drive down crime and the fear of crime. I encourage you to

take every reasonable step to secure your property and avoid becoming a victim of crime, as I have written in many previous issues. A thief wont just strike during the night, they will steal in broad daylight, help us stop that happening, report anything suspicious to us immediately, note down details, registration numbers etc. If something doesn’t look right, it probably isn’t – let us find for sure, report it!! During the current sub zero temperatures we are experiencing, please be prepared and drive to the conditions presented. If you don’t need to go out, don’t! If you do, ensure your vehicle is well equipped for the intended journey. We don’t want you becoming a statistic, drive to arrive. Its not long now till the warm sunny mornings, with the seagull wake up call at 4am!

Finally, if you have any information or concerns, you can contact us at your PACT meetings, by phone on 01253 876611, via our Lancashire Constabulary website or if you prefer to remain anonymous, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. All ward areas now have a single PACT meeting, just prior to the Fleetwood Town Council meeting at The North Euston Hotel, on the last Tuesday of each month at 5:30pm until 6:45pm. This is a ‘drop in’ event and your local Neighbourhood team will be available to discuss with you personally any issues you may have. Feel free to call in and see us.
