Tolleys’ Ryecroft Hall Has been managed by current owners Clive Tolley and his wife Diana since 1996. Set in the picturesque country village of Hambleton, just four miles from Poulton-le-Fylde, this venue was perfect for professional chef Clive to develop the restaurant utilizing his culinary and management skills. Sixteen years on, the property has been extended and the entire building has been refurbished. Clive’s reputation as a top chef is now well known, and he continues to create menus using fresh local products to tempt the taste buds at affordable prices. A one-time chef instructor in the RAF and senior chef lecturer at Birmingham College of Food he continues to pass on his knowledge and skills with the very successful ‘Night’s in the Kitchen’. Here guests are invited into the restaurant’s extensive kitchen where they are taught techniques and dishes to use at home whilst sampling copious amounts of food and wine all for £20.00 per session.

In the largest of the function suites, the Lancaster Room, the décor is more contemporary with state-of-the-art furnishings. New Yearling Syndicate Launched New Yearling Syndicate launched We are pleased to announce a brand new Yearling syndicate for 2013 and would like to get as many local people involved as we can. A lot of people are always put off the idea of racehorse ownership simply because of the cost but with the a syndicate the beauty of it is that you can decide to put in as much as you want or as little as you want depending on circumstances. Our aim this year is to break down the costs into 3 price structures so that is feasible for everyone to become part of it, and once you’re a member you still get all the full ownership entitlements such as monthly newsletter, invites to stable visits and gallops mornings, complimentary owners badges when the horse runs and your share of any prize money won.
Lokis Strike After his success at Redcar Loki went to Thirsk and again hopes were high of another good run, but unfortunately things were not to turn out as anticipated as Loki came home a somewhat puzzling 9th of 13. After his run Loki was tested and scoped dirty suggesting all was not well with him, he then developed a ‘snotty nose’ and this at least goes someway to explaining his below par run. He’s under gone a 2 week course of antibiotics and is now back in training.
So if getting involved in racehorse ownership is something you’ve always dreamt of well now is the time to turn it into reality and this time next year you could be stood there cheering home your very own winner.
Jessica Bethell Finally we would just like to join the rest of the racing comunity and pay our respects to the family of Jessica Bethell who died suddenly at the age of 24. Jess was well known and liked in the racing world and was assistant to her father the trainer James Bethell at their family run yard in Middleham. She will be sadly missed by all her family, friends and racing colleagues. R.I. P Jess.

Fleetwood Museum News The museum will officially close for the winter on Saturday November 3rd at 4.00pm. However we will continue to host daytime and evening visits from group s and schools during the daytime and are able to host evening visits with catering if required Many local organisations have paid visits out of hours and if your group may fancy a guided visit in winter please ring the museum during office hours - 01253 876621. The last major events of the open season will be the children’s events on Halloween, Weds. October 31 st. We have childrens Craft events at 12noon and 2.00pm –making witches ! Sessions cost £1 . We have recently become a registered charity. Users can come along and enjoy the healthy outdoor activities of gardening and horticulture. WGP ongoing aims; Promote Healthy Eating Encourage Physical Activity Boost confidence and self esteem Help motivate the next steps to a healthy lifestyle Bringing together the local community What’s going on @WGP We are currently open Tuesdays and Thursdays every week. Our service users take part in a variety of activities which include; Herb and vegetable identification, composting, sowing and planting, harvesting and willow craft to name but a few. Over Christmas volunteers will be taking part in seasonal craft classes, making Christmas wreaths and bird box’s in return for small donations over the festive season. We have had much appreciated continual support off Julie Patton (LCC Environmental Officer), Simon Lawton (CVS) and Emma Garstan (wildlife trust). Emma has recently been working with 4volunteers at WGP helping them achieved an AQA qualification. Good News For WGP Queens Jubilee As part of the Queens Jubilee WGP were picked as the Northern winner of the Veolis Environmental Services Clean Sweep for Britain in association with The People. Pamela Laird and Paula Ireland entered the project to help transform the gardens into a space for people with disabilities introducing the therapeutic benefits of gardening. WGP will have a team of veolis experts and volunteers to help transform the space. The plans consist of a sheltered area with lights and music, an area for a raised fish pond and water features surrounded by aromatic herbs and plants. Health Lottery WGP has been awarding £10,000. The capital funding receive by the health lottery will enable WGP to prepare a site and construct a log cabin with toilet, storage, catering and office areas. The cabin will facilitate the running of supported gardening sessions including nature and recycling-based arts and crafts session. We’ve all heard this rhyme and know it’s related to Bonfire Night and something to do with Guy Fawkes and the Houses of Parliament. Or was it the House of Commons?
Well, to try and clear up any doubts over what we are actually celebrating on 5 November every year, and how to celebrate it in style, we’ve put together a little guide. It’s only natural that we start right at the beginning with the history of Bonfire Night. The main cause for this near-catastrophic event in British history was, of course, stemmed in religion. When King James I came to the English throne in 1605 he established his power in the persecution of as many Catholics as possible, being a devout Protestant himself. Obviously, the Catholics, who weren’t even allowed to practice their beliefs, opposed this idea and the famous ‘Gunpowder Plot’ was born. Aiming to blow up the Houses of Parliament and all who were inside (namely King James), the group sent the legendary Guy Fawkes to keep watch over the barrels of gunpowder hidden under the Parliament floors. He was found and arrested and the plan was blown to pieces. In celebration of his lucky escape, King James ordered for a bonfire to take place each year in remembrance.

Steeped in tradition, the whole of Britain comes out and enjoys 5 November year after year, no matter the weather. It’s probably better if the fire doesn’t turn to embers as quickly as it starts, but hey, whether it’s raining, blowing a gale or (fingers crossed!) crisp and dry, we all love a good bonfire.
Every bonfire party should never be without good food, whether it’s at an organised event or a private party at home, toffee apples and bonfire lollies are a must, as are marshmallows cooked over the open flames. Delicious, hearty food should always be provided, so think sausage casseroles, beef stews and chilli con carne, and a large glass of mulled wine or spiced cider is always a good idea for warming your hands on. Try hot apple juice and cinnamon for the kids. To get the most out of your bonfire, make sure you invest in some decent fireworks, and I don’t mean the £10 ones bought from your corner shop which just spit an array of colours whilst never moving off the ground. Check to see if there is a safe, organised firework event in your local area where all the family can enjoy the spectacular fireworks. Where else in the world can you stand around in the freezing cold, eating burnt sausages and roasted chestnuts watching the sky light up before you? The media wall will be lit up every weekend to advertise the event which is being held on Rossall School Fields on Monday the 5th of November.
