Tolleys’ Ryecroft Hall Has been managed by current owners Clive Tolley and his wife Diana since 1996. Set in the picturesque country village of Hambleton, just four miles from Poulton-le-Fylde, this venue was perfect for professional chef Clive to develop the restaurant utilizing his culinary and management skills. Sixteen years on, the property has been extended and the entire building has been refurbished. Clive’s reputation as a top chef is now well known, and he continues to create menus using fresh local products to tempt the taste buds at affordable prices. A one-time chef instructor in the RAF and senior chef lecturer at Birmingham College of Food he continues to pass on his knowledge and skills with the very successful ‘Night’s in the Kitchen’. THE MOUNT RACING CLUB UPDATE
A pleasing second at Redcar After being gelded Loki’s Strike returned to action at Redcar in a 7f Nursery and rewarded all his followers who made the trip over to the N. Yorkshire seaside resort with a very encouraging run to finish second beaten by just under a length. Berthed out in stall 1, the worst possible draw, Loki had no choice but to drop in and wait behind the other 15 runners and hope the gaps came when he needed them. Three furlongs from home it looked as though the gaps weren’t going to come as first jockey Robert Winston tried one way then another in search of an opening and we thought we were going to have to sit and suffer as Loki looked trapped in behind a wall of horses. But then a furlong from home Robert managed to squeeze him out and set sail for home and managed to reel in all but the well fancied favourite and finish an eye catching 2nd at odds of 16/1. The fitting of blinkers on Loki has a massive effect on him as did the fact he raced on his favoured Good ground, jockey Robert Winston immediately jumped off him afterwards and requested the ride on him again as he felt sure his turn for winning won’t be far off. This was a statement echoed by trainer Karl Burke and Racing UK’s commentator Mark Howard who described Loki as the unfortunate one in the race due to his troubled run throughout it and one to certainly keep an eye on next time out. It was also a very pleasing effort both Mount Racing Club founders Geoff Holden and Andy Eaton who are now busy trying to find the next Loki’s Strike at the Yearling sales in Newmarket. Andy summed it up by saying
“ Its a such a great feeling to be involved in Racehorse ownership and when you have days like this its a real bonus and a buzz, heres hoping he can go one better next time.”

Fleetwood Museum News The first two weekends in September proved to be extremely busy and during Heritage Open Days, many hundreds of visitors toured the museum. October is the final full operating month before winter closure. On Thursday October 11th, at 2pm. David Pearce and Dick Gillingham will present an illustrated talk, The Changing Face of Fleetwood Dockland. They will be drawing on hundreds of unpublished photographs showing the development of the port from the 1870’s to the 1990’s and relating to key events in port history. Admission is free but early arrival is advisable. On the following Tuesday evening, October 16th at 7.30pm top female folk singing duo Scolds Bridle will be presenting an evening of favourite songs in the Museum Coffee House. Sue and Liz started their singing career in Fleetwood 35 years ago and have appeared at many of Britain’s top festivals. They still undertake tours each year. They will be supported by local friends delivering songs with a Fleetwood flavour. Tickets are £6 including a wine, cheese and pate supper and tickets are on sale at the Museum reception. The Museum Friends will hold their Coffee Morning on Weds. 31st October at 10.30 am. On Wednesday 31st October there will also be a Halloween Special for children. The early afternoon craft sessions will see children making their own Demdike Witch. Sessions cost £1 but booking on 01253 876621 is essential. In the evening there will be a childrens halloween Spooky Rave for 4 to 11 year olds. Tickets for this childrens party are on sale from the Museum priced £5. FLEETWOOD SWIMMERS ALIGHT WITH OLYMPIC SPIRIT Young swimmers from Fleetwood Swimming Club have been greatly inspired by the Olympic Games! 28 youngsters, aged from 9 to 17, took part in a week long intensive training camp designed to emulate the training regimes of their Olympic heroes. The event at Fleetwood’s YMCA pool, consisted of an impressive 20km swim for the younger swimmers through to 40 km for the more senior swimmers. In addition the athletes participated in 5 hours of land training in the gym and on the beach, Mount and Marine Hall gardens. The athletes participated in stroke analysis using the latest underwater camera technology and lectures were given on healthy lifestyle, gala preparation and goal setting. Midway through the week the swimmers were joined by teammate Will Eccleston who has just returned from the European Youth Modern Pentathlon Championships in Warsaw, Poland. In his first international competition 14 year old Will, from Arnold School, gained a Bronze Medal in the team event. Will has now been chosen to compete for Great Britain in the Youth Olympic Hopes International Competition for under 18’s in Czechoslovakia this month.

Please can I urge everybody to ensure their children behave responsibly in the run up to and on the evening of Hallowe’en. Enjoy the occasion by visiting only your relatives and friends addresses when out trick or treating. Avoid calling at homes where elderly people live, especially if they are displaying the sign “No Trick or Treaters” - this time of year can cause unnecessary anguish and upset for the vulnerable living amongst us. If you have any worries concerning this time of
year and the possible increase of people calling at your homes, call us on 01253 604329 and we will do all we can to assist. Anti Social Behaviour in Fleetwood continues to reduce within Fleetwood. Your dedicated Neighbourhood Team are busy working on a number of issues to reduce this even further. By moving on groups of youths, building positive relationships with them and highlighting various events/ projects taking place, tackling problem neighbours, engaging with the landlords, we are starting to see real changes within the town. There is no room for complacency and I would urge you to contact us if you have any concerns or issues that we should know about and help us help you. If anybody out there would ever wish to volunteer within the Police Service, there are lots of roles available where you could really be assisting officers locally - whether behind the scenes at the station or by taking a more visible role within the community. Watch out for future releases relating to this type of role. Similarly if you are contemplating setting up a Neighbourhood Watch scheme in
your community, get in touch with our Divisional Liaison Officer, Anne Edmondson on 01524 596615, who will be happy to answer all your questions. The process of our PACT meetings is always evolving with a view to maximising its appeal to the residents of Fleetwood. We now meet at the new Fleetwood Community Fire Station on the second Monday of each month between 2:30pm and 3:30pm. The next one is on 8th October. This is a ‘drop in’ event and your local Neighbourhood Team will be available to discuss with you privately any issues you may have. Hello Plans are advancing well for the Community Bonfire, to be held on Monday 5th November 2012 and will be organised by Lancashire Fire and Rescue, Lancashire Constabulary and local community agencies, led by the Rotary Club of Fleetwood. It will be held again on the fields between Rossall School and Westway and attracts a terrific crowd to watch the very large bonfire and superb fireworks display. Come along and enjoy the event in a safe and friendly environment. The gates will open at 6.00pm, the bonfire will be lit at 6.30 pm the firework display will start between 7.15pm and 7.30pm
