James started his career in the RAF, where he trained as a motor mechanic. On leaving the RAF, he rented his first garage on Station Road in Poulton in 1993. He steadily built up his business and then expanded into larger premises, when he moved to Fleetwood in July 2002 by buying Central Garage down Albany Road. He now has a team of 13 staff including reception, office and workshop / service bays. They offer a wide range of services including MOT testing (class 4, 7 and motorbikes), fixedprice servicing, diagnostics, computerised wheel alignment & tyres, air-conditioning checks, batteries, etc. They also offer free courtesy cars, and even have a courtesy van for commercial customers! James has a simple philosophy, “We take good care of each and every customer that comes our way”. That philosophy runs right through the company where there is a strong emphasis on Customer Care. From Lesley and Debbie who are on hand to take your call through to the highly- trained mechanics, the team are there to assist and advise at every step of the way. All prices at the garage are fully inclusive, with no hidden extras. James’ works on a basic philosophy to be honest and reliable at all times. James said “We describe all work required in simple terms, no jargon. We always look for the best & most cost-effective solution to meet your repair needs. We never start work until the job has been quoted and approved by the customers”. Need tyres? They have a large range of tyres in stock to cater for all makes and models & to meet all budgets. James has also invested in a ‘Nitrogen Tyre Inflation’ machine which is guaranteed to increase the efficiency of your vehicle and reduce your fuel consumption. James said “At Central Garage, we are always

looking for products & services that we can offer our customers to help reduce the cost of their motoring”. The Nitrogen Tyre Inflation machine is just one such way in which a little investment from the customer can prove longer-term benefits. James Jackson’s Central Garage is one of the only local garages where you can still have your car filled up by an attendant! James explained “We recognise that some of our customers find it difficult to fill the car themselves and like our ‘old-fashioned’ approach to fuelling cars. That is why we offer this service”. James said “I’ve been running a garage now for 20 years with many customers that have been with me right from the start. But I like to think that although we’ve expanded, we are large enough to cope but small enough to care”. James and his family now live in Thornton Cleveleys, where both his wife and himself were brought up. James spends much of his spare time in Fleetwood though, where on a Saturday afternoon you’ll find him at Highbury stadium cheering on Fleetwood Town FC along with the Cody Army. James Jackson’s Central Garage is situated just a stone’s throw from the ground down Albany Road, just off Poulton Road. Time to chill
Whether you love American-style gooey ice cream desserts smothered in toffee sauce, or a tart, palate-cleansing sorbet, there’s nothing like a cold treat to finish off a summer meal.
Iced strawberry pavlova roll (Serves 6-8) 2tsp cornflour 225g caster sugar 4 egg whites Icing sugar, sifted 350ml shop-bought strawberry sorbet 120ml double cream Icing sugar, fresh strawberries and mint leaves, to decorate Line a Swiss roll tin with greaseproof paper, cut to fit. Sift the cornflour and blend evenly with the caster sugar. Whisk the egg whites until they form peaks but are not dry and crumbly. Then whisk in the sugar-cornflour mixture gradually until stiff and glossy. Spoon into the prepared tin and flatten out the top. Place in a cold oven and turn it to 150C/Gas Mark 2. Cook for 1 hour until the top is crisp but the meringue still feels springy. Turn out immediately onto a double sheet of greaseproof paper that has been sprinkled with sifted icing sugar and leave to cool.

Meanwhile, soften the sorbet and whip the cream. When the meringue has cooled, carefully and quickly spread it with the sorbet and then with the whipped cream. Roll up, using the paper as a support and wrap lightly in foil. Return to the freezer. Freeze for about 1 hour (or up to several days) before serving, sprinkled with more icing sugar and topped with fresh strawberries and mint.

July is always a busy month and on Tuesday July 2nd, The Friends of the Museum will hold a tramway afternoon starting at 12.30pm. A Tram Journey from Fleetwood to Lytham 1913 will be the title of a beautifully illustrated talk, showing scenes along the route from 100 years ago. The King and Queens visit to the Fylde will be included. The talk will be followed at 14.00 with a tram journey to the old terminus at South Pier. Our regular monthly talk will be from Leeds based David Dredge on Thursday July 11th. He will be speaking about The Railway in Fleetwood – Cause ,Catalyst and Effect. With interest growing in the restoration of the railway to the town, an interesting afternoon is in prospect. The talk starts at 14.00 but early arrival is advised for the free talk. This event is part of the Lancashire Community Heritage initiative – Changing Tracks.
The museum will be open on Tram Sunday – an excellent opportunity for some cooling refreshment and a real dose of nostalgia!

‘Unsinkable’ – the Titanic’s connections with Lancashire Exhibition is now open in Fleetwood Museum and will remain open until November 2nd.
On Tuesday afternoons during the schools summer holidays we will be hosting childrens Craft Sessions, starting on July 23rd. The opening day features a build a ship session. Please call into the museum for a childrens holiday programme or ring the museum on 01253 876621 to make a booking. One hour sessions cost £1 for accompanied children. We will also be hosting maritime themed craft sessions during August.
Finally the Museum Trust is holding a weekly Book Sale on Tuesday mornings in the Dolls House next to the Museum. It is open from 11.00 to 13.30- with free admission to the sale and all titles on offer at 50p ! New stock is arriving each week and money raised goes to museum projects. Fleetwood Plus is a new Community Interest Company that will be based in the 'Angel Building', this building will named in memory of Elyssa Precious and Tyler Brodie, who were the Grandchildren of founder member and First Director George Greenall. In 2009 George's daughter Laura and her husband Will Brodie looked into purchasing the Clifton and Orient Building to set up Elyssa Leisure in memory of their daughter Elyssa Precious who tragically died at birth. This was instigated when Elyssa's grave was being vandalised on the local cemetery and Laura and Will thought that by offering people alternative and additional recreational activities this would help eradicate such behaviour. Unfortunately Laura and Will suffered another tragic loss that year and therefore the original plans were abandoned but the vision wouldn't go away. Since 2009 we have been researching and developing our ideas and with consultation
with people in the community we now feel the plans of an arts and community hub can be realised, with the emphasis being on the arts, the community and the town's heritage. The facility will allow users to participate in creative learning and enjoyment and will be known as The 'Angel' Building, dedicated in memory of Elyssa and Tyler and all those in the community who have lost someone too soon... This venture will be for the whole of the community to benefit from and we would therefore ask that the community get behind us in which ever way they feel they can... Local debt councelling centre grows to cope with the need

Centre Manager for the Fleetwood branch Lisa Tudor said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming debt coach Anne Carlos onto the team at such a crucial time.
As the financial squeeze continues the Fleetwood branch of a debt counselling charity is taking on extra staff to bring more free help to those in need. From this week, the centre, based at Emmanuel Church will be welcoming a new debt coach to their team resulting in more appointment slots for people suffering from out-of-control debts. The centre, which opened in 2005, has seen a steady growth in the number of people getting in touch as word has spread of CAP’s uniquely indepth, caring and face-to-face help. Typically most clients get in touch after personal recommendation while others are referred by local GPs, housing associations and council
Contrary to popular opinion debts are rarely caused by overspending alone. The most common reason is a change in circumstance, for example job loss, relationship breakdown, accident or illness in the family.

THE MOUNT RACING CLUB UPDATE
THE DERBY In wake of the 100th year anniversary of the famous “Suffragette Derby” which saw campaigner Emily Davidson throw herself in front of the Kings horse, it was quite fitting that another female should be making all the headlines. The female in
question was our very own trainer Elaine Burke who made her own piece of history by saddling Libertarian to finish second and secure best ever Derby finish by a female trained horse. Afterwards Elaine acknowledged the famous link to history by saying “It’s nice to do it for the Ladies”. Her only regret as she bemoaned the slow pace was that Libertarian did not win. “Its a shame they didnt go more of a gallop for us as it would of suited him, a good pace and another furlong and he would of been in front” These comments were echoed by his jockey William Buick who said that it was some performance from Libertarian and has no doubt that this is a horse with a wonderful big race temperament and one that is full of promise for the future. He also went on to pay tribute to Elaine and Karl Burke by saying it was a top class training performance by them and they got his preparation absolutely spot on. A job well done by Team Burke and the rest of the staff at Spigot Lodge.
Pleased to say all our horses are fine, Loki is enjoying a summer break and will be back in the autumn when his targets may well include a few races across the channel in France. Eva Clare is taking a bit longer than we thought to fill her frame but were in no rush with her as we feel she going to be a very nice prospect indeed and Hot Right Now is currently entered up in plenty of races and hopefully will be winning a few of them along the way. All in all everything is positive at present and long may it continue. The achievements of Libertarian has certainly had a positive knock on for Karl and all the team and benefits everyone else connected with the yard as interest grows in all his other horses in training. We have certainly felt the feel good factor and once again it goes to show what can happen once you’re involved in the magic of Racehorse Ownership.

Trinity Baptist Church Summer Fair which is being held at the Church on Poulton Road/Dronsfield Road, on Saturday 6th July from 10.00am to 2.00pm. There will be lots of stalls and refreshments, and fun for everyone. Summer Fair at St.Paul’s Church Hall. Warren Ave South, Fleetwood. On 27th July 11am-2pm Admission by donation. Outside Activities and Puppet Show, also Book Sale,tombola,raffles,and refreshments. AS ALWAYS – there are regular COFFEE MORNINGS at St. Peter’s, Lord Street, every Tuesday and Friday from 9.30 to approximately 3pm. BREAKING BREAD, every Tuesday at 12.00noon at St. David’s Hall. A fabulous meal, in great company, for just £3. Can’t be bad! Do come and see for yourself. Why not come earlier and join in the Service first at 11.30am.
