Recently, Scott Davies visited Shakespeare Primary School to be a part of their annual, “Shakey’s Got Talent” variety show. There was excellence in abundance, as performances ranged from beautiful singing solos to humorous dance routines. All the school pupils thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and nine-yearold Bradley Cottrill won the competition with his version of Ed Sheeran’s “Lego House”. The Family Learning Mentor at Shakespeare, Clare O’Connor, thanked the Fleetwood Town player: “We all had an absolutely amazing afternoon. There were some very talented children – some made us cry and some made us laugh; it was a stunning show with a lot of talent.” Scott was equally as pleased with the event as he said, “Going back each year is marvellous. The acts were well rehearsed and the youngsters are very brave performing in front of everyone – I couldn’t do it. It’s always a pleasure coming back and being a friend of the school.” Unquestionably, the competition was a success, and the future of Fleetwood talent looks promising. Highbury Stadium was boosted just a few weeks ago when Wyre Borough Council planners gave the go ahead for further redevelopment of the ground. A single story extension on the Memorial Stand will provide much-needed office space for main club sponsor Business Energy Solutions (BES). The project above Jim’s Sport Bar will cost in excess of £1m and bring around 80 jobs to the port.
ON THE PITCH Following the reformation of the squad after several additions being made to the team in the recent transfer window, Fleetwood have shown positive displays both home and away in the Football League. Manager Graham Alexander is pleased with the progress his side is making, and Town are still lurking in or around the Play-off zone within the League Table. A great sign of development being made lower down the ranks was the appearance of Jamie Allen for the first team. Allen has built his way up from within the youth setup and gained a place within the full side at the club.

Despite Fleetwood Museum currently being closed to the general public, work has been progressing over the winter on a number of building and repair projects in preparation for re-opening in the Spring. The Annual Dinner of the Friends of the Museum at the North Euston Hotel on January 29th, was well attended and guests listened to a lighthearted and entertaining talk by Andy Mitchell, the long serving Radio Wave News Editor and presenter. The Museum will re-open for the new season on Tuesday 26th March at 11.00. The following day, Wednesday at 10.30, the Museum Friends will hold their first Coffee Morning of the year in the Museum Coffee House. All are welcome , particularly any residents new to the area, who may be looking for social groups to join. The museum is looking to recruit volunteers for the new season, particularly local people who may like to work in the Coffee House. The time commitment for volunteers varies from four to ten hours a week and we are keen to ensure that time at the museum dovetails nicely within existing family commitments.

The Museum is open Tuesday to Saturday, from 11.00 to 16.00 each day. Many of our volunteers are based in Fleetwood but we do have a few travelling from other areas of the Fylde. Our volunteers come from a wide variety of backgrounds but work together as a welcoming team. Our first touring exhibition of 2013, will be at the museum from 30th March to 15th June. Egypt’s Sands to Northern Hills is an exhibition of early Egyptian history with artefacts spanning 3,000 years, A number of schools activities have been devised ,linked to the exhibition. Two hour long sessions suitable for key stages 1 and2 can be booked. Please contact the museum for further details. A second touring exhibition - Unsinkable – Commemorating the Titanic in Lancashire will be in Fleetwood Museum from 20th June until 2nd November 2013. Forget a box of Quality Street or a bunch of flowers from a petrol station forecourt, this year, do it properly and go all out for your mum. What better way to treat your mum than a full day of pampering. Let your mum unwind and truly relax with a spa day. And if you want to make her day even more special (and bag yourself a bit of a pamper) then why not go along with her and enjoy a full day of luxury together. Say thank you to your mum with a bunch of flowers – no I’m not contradicting myself – I said no petrol station forecourt flowers. If you’re going to say it with flowers, do it properly. Go to a florist and invest in a blooming lovely bunch. Or if you want to avoid the clichéd bunch of flowers,

why not go for a potted flower like an orchid. Either way, you are guaranteed to brighten up her day. Chocolates are another gift guaranteed to make your mum smile. Treat her to a beautifully wrapped box of luxury, handpicked chocolates that she can enjoy with a bottle of wine. She might let you share if you’re lucky. Let her take the weight off for the day and put her feet up. She deserves to take a break from the usual chores for at least one day so why not switch roles – why not cook her dinner? And I’m not talking microwave ready meal. Treat her to a threecourse delight – and yes you will have to do the washing up too! If it’s a safer bet to stay out of the kitchen, then why not take her to her favourite restaurant for dinner or treat her to a girly long lunch. Either way it gives her the chance to don her glad rags and feel like a star. Does your mum have a favourite place to go? Perhaps she enjoys long walks over rolling country or, something a little less strenuous, a stroll around her favourite shopping village. Whatever or wherever it is, make a day of it and spend some
quality time together doing something that she loves. While you’re on your big day out, why not stop off and refuel with afternoon tea. A piping hot cup of tea accompanied by a mouthwatering scone smothered in rich cream will certainly go down a treat. If you want to get your mum an extra special gift to show her how much you care then nothing goes down better than jewellery. A lovely bracelet or a glistening pair of earrings is sure to do the trick. They will make her feel special and every time she wears them she will think of you. She’s cleaned up after you, washed and ironed your clothes and put tea on the table every night for years on end so why not give her a well deserved day off. If you really want to make it a mothers day to remember then why not treat mum to a weekend mini break. A shopping trip in Barcelona or a sight seeing stint in Paris are both fantastic weekend breaks that are guaranteed to leave you both with lasting memories.

THE MOUNT RACING CLUB UPDATE
Middleham Stables Open Day March 29th 2013 The picturesque village of Middleham is famous for its connections with horse racing and is one of the leading centres for training racehorses in the north of England. The Middleham Stables Open Day is held every year on Good Friday and attracts thousands of racing enthusiasts from all over the country. There are over 500 horses on show as leading Flat and National Hunt trainers including Karl Burke, Mark Johnston and Ferdy Murphy throw open their doors to the general public and give them the chance to wander round and see their impressive training yards. It all gets underway from 9.30am and once you have paid a small admission charge there is a free shuttle bus that ferries you around from stable to stable. There are hot and cold refreshments available in the village and it really is a great day out for any Racing fan as well as a worthwhile one for the many charities who benefit from it. Both Geoff and Andy will be there representing the Mount Racing Club and will have a stall at Karl and Elaine Burkes Spigot Lodge stables and invite anyone who makes the trip over to come and say hello. Ready for the Flat. As the Flat season creeps ever nearer we are pleased to report that both our horses are in good order and back in full training after their winter breaks. Loki’s Strike is a well handicapped horse with plenty of ability who we intend to have a spin on the All Weather at Southwell with first before going onto a campaign on the Turf. He’s a strong horse who looks like he’s going to be a nice 3yo and hopefully he can reward us with some good days out this year. Our 2yo filly by Majestic Missile has been an absolute dream to break in and has now completed all her stalls work, she’s an easy moving sort with a great attitude and looks very impressive working on the gallops. We hope to see her debut from the start of May onwards and if she turns out to be half as good as she looks we’re in for a good year with her.

I think that you will agree that this is an excellent choice given the current situation. I know every year I ask for your support, but I believe that this cause deserves that little bit more help
