Thornton Primary School

Thank you to all the parents and children who have supported the bus for the last two years in the Gamble Road area.

Heys Street, Thornton 01253 821128 Well Christmas at Thornton Primary was certainly a busy time! Our plays were fantastic and the children made us really proud! They had really good parties in the final week, and KS1 enjoyed a trip to Preston Charter Theatre to watch Cinderella. Our Year 6 children entertained the community at Thornton Library and the Year 2 children put on a wonderful show for Teal Close Day Care Centre.

We also have a visiting theatre company visiting to perform Pinocchio which we are really looking forward to. A new year means new challenges and experiences for all at Thornton Primary, and we look forward to developing further during 2010

January is always a busy month – lots of uninterrupted work! There’s still room for fun though, as many of our clubs will be starting up again. ! 10

Important changes to waste collections in Wyre Get out your calendars and circle 15th February 2010. That's the message being spread repeatedly throughout Wyre during the next few months. From this date simple, but important, changes will be made to the collection of recyclable waste from people's homes. Firstly, from 15 February 2010, cardboard will no longer be accepted in the green waste bin. This should instead be placed into the blue bin alongside paper. The second change will come from around August 2010 when food waste should be wrapped in paper and placed into the green waste bin for composting, thereby diverting up to one third of the grey bin (residual) waste from landfill. But don't put food into your green waste yet, we will let you know when this can start. Residents on black sack collections will be unaffected by the changes for the time being. Both of these measures are a result of the new waste treatment facility that opens in Thornton next year. All of Wyre's waste will be transferred to this exciting new facility, which will create further opportunities for recycling and reducing our reliance on landfill.

12

Councillor Vivien Taylor, the council's Living Places Portfolio Holder, reiterated that disruption to residents usual routine would be kept to a minimum. She said: "By transferring cardboard from one bin to another we are making these changes as simple as possible. "People can expect to see reminders about them everywhere they look in their community and there will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions and raise concerns in the run-up to February 15." "Currently up to 33 per cent of rubbish that ends up here is kitchen waste that from August can be recycled. Left on landfill it releases gases such as methane and carbon dioxide as it breaks down, which is harmful to the environment. "This is unacceptable and goes against our pledge to combat climate change in Wyre. The new facility will go a long way to helping us achieve our targets." Councillor May Gandhi, Climate Change Champion for Wyre Borough Council, explained: "Like all districts in Lancashire, Wyre is committed to significantly reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill by 2020.

“Did You Know That You Don’t Have To Keep Making Debt Repayments If You Can No Longer Afford Them? Read This To Find Out about this Legal Loophole…..” Recently a friend said to me “If I’d have known that you could have reduced my debt repayments without another loan I would have called you immediately!” At Debt Lifeline, we’ve spent years releasing people from the debt that’s been destroying their lives. The problem is 99% of people are unaware of what can LEGALLY be done using the “secrets” of the “Debt Lifeline System TM”. If your circumstances qualify the Debt Lifeline System TM GUARANTEES….. All of your unsecured creditors will be legally obliged to write off a significant proportion of their debt No upfront fees and charges. You will pay one monthly amount to creditors, usually for 60 months as full and final settlement. You’re immediately protected from all your unsecured creditors (including credit cards, loans, overdrafts etc.)

4

None of your assets such as your house or the car you use for work can be taken from you. 5 All interest on your debts will be frozen (if 75% in value of your creditors agree) You won’t need another loan. All the creditors that don’t want to help will be forced to do so. We will deal with all letters and phone calls for you.. You’ll be able to get another mortgage if you need to move. You’ll still be able to use a (pre-paid) Visa or Mastercard no matter what your credit rating is like. You’ll avoid the stigma of bankruptcy by your situation not being made public in your local newspaper. The Debt Lifeline System is only implemented by professional, qualified and licensed representatives. If the Debt Lifeline System doesn’t deliver all of the above then we’ll give you £250, no questions asked.

Total debts of £43,404, of which £20,124 (46%) was written off by 60 affordable monthly payments of £388. “I am glad that I followed my instincts and went with Debt Lifeline, I am so pleased with the outcome”. Mrs W Total debts of £118,449 of which £83,209 (70%) written off by 60 affordable monthly payments. “A sincere thank you for all you have done, it is truly appreciated ... many thanks for putting my life back on track”. Mr E Loan repayments reduced from £500 to £100 per month. “Can I once again thank you for helping the both of us with this plan…….it has changed our lives”. Mr and Mrs P W.

THORNTON CLEVELEYS FC

LINK-Magazine TCFC KEEP ON THE PRESSURE AT THE TOP OF THE TABLE With 16 goals scored and with just 2 replies Thornton Cleveleys FC maintained both their unbeaten run and 2nd position in the table. November’s weather was the worst on record but that did not dampen the spirits of the supporter who watched their team go from strength to strength and run out 5-0 winners at home to Milnthorpe followed by a 2-0 away win at Crooklands .December saw a fine 4-2 home win against Burnley Utd followed by a 5-0 thumping of Croston Sports and even missed a penalty .The whole team is playing some exciting football of late and this is no coincidence as manager John Mendonca steps up the training “We are training two nights a week which is some going for most of the lads holding down full time jobs but the benefits are paying off and Im delighted to see more people from the community coming down to support the team” Mendonca said. Thornton Cleveleys maintain their position in the table after their unbeaten run and the gap is starting to emerge between the top two and the rest of the teams Premiership football looks certain to return to Bourne Park next season. JUNIOR TEAM NEWS November’s weather caused havoc with the fixtures with only a handful of games played but boy did our team play some good football when the opportunity arose Under 9s continue to top the table 4 points clear of Clifton Rangers and Fleetwood Town 2nd and 3rd respectively Only two of the four games survived the weather during November with Kev Hogarths team notching up another victory over Fleetwood Town the A game finished 4-2 with goals from Jamie Hargreaves and a hat trick by Louis Talarczyk and the B Game finished 1-1 after Josh Sackfield put TCFC in the lead. However, the 9s did not have it their own way at Foxhall losing 2-1 and drawing 1-1 Josh and Jamie on the score sheet yet again. Two fantastic end to end games versus Clifton in the Coulton Cup resulted in an aggregate score draw and a replay to look forward to. “Results are not important to me at this age what really matters is the lads are developing and playing some great football” said manager Kev Hoggarth Under 10s Failed to play a game in November due to the weather but the 12th December saw them picking up four valuable league points that saw them climb two places up the table .Euan Hockey netted twice and Harry Wilson and Ryan Gardner were also on target in a 4 – 1 win for the Reds as Kieron Pipe ensured a well earned point for the Whites against Spirit of Youth Under 11s Continue to find form and climb the table Nigel Fleetwood’s team won 2 games and drew 1 in November they beat St Annes 4-2 (Tasha Fenton 2, Jordie Ross-Smith and Arthur Spencer) scored the goals then they contested an amazing 7-6 thriller against Fleetwood Town in which TCFC took the lead no less than 6 times before netting the winner in the last minute Stevie Caldwell, Matty Duff, Tasha Fenton 2, Zac Ingham 2, and Arthur Spencer notched the goals finally finishing off the month with a 1-1 draw against Lytham Juniors Tasha Fenton again on the score sheet. A 5-2 defeat against Poulton in mid December failed to dent their ever growing confidence.

Admission to all Seniors games is free of charge and you can still keep up-to-date with scores from around the country with all televised Premiership and Championship games being screened.

Under 12s had just one game for the in November which saw them crash to a 4-0 at the hands of a very good Lytham Juniors side despite a good start to the season for Shaun Rowley’s team “We started the season really well and had a lengthy run in the cup then the weather hit us so we have only played 5 league games but we have an excellent squad of players and we will be back to winning ways soon” said assistant manager David Wilson Under 13s contested just one game in November. Table topping 13s switched their home tie to fellow champion contenders St Annes due to weather and what a game it proved to be between the leagues only unbeaten teams. Both submitted their 100% records as they contested a 3-3 thriller New signing Joel Durham notched 2 goals with Conah Hadgraft grabbing the other. A recent 3- 6 v Fleetwood Gym saw them maintain their lofty status. Under 14s Failed to play any game in November due to the weather but December saw 10 goals scored with only 3 conceded. Kyle Aspindle, Alex Evans, Danny Cottam and Jack Eyres all on the score sheet in a 3 – 7 victory away to Wyre Juniors Under 15s crashed out of the Lancashire cup to Aston of Manchester losing 5-0 to an academy style team “Im not complaining about the result but some of the lads we played would not look out of place in an under 18s team” said manager Steve Coulburn and to add to the 15s misery after surrendering home advantage for the second year running to YMCA the 15s suffered yet another 5-0 defeat .to the league favourites 3 of the goals coming in the last 10 minutes. To make up for it a 4 – 1 win against Blackpool Rangers followed and the man of the match award went to Cain Hutchinson who never put a foot wrong and played with great composure. Under 16s yet another TCFC team who failed to play a game in November due to the soggy pitches but the mood was soon lifted as a very creditable 2 – 2 draw against table topping Kirkham Juniors followed with Eric Clayton bagging both goals .A draw that delighted manager Neil Walmsley and Assistant Danny Gillett
