IS YOUR CONSERVATORY TOO COLD? Dont replace your conservatory roof, just insulate it !

C

osy Conservatory is a Lytham based conservatory insulation specialist that transforms the inside of your conservatory roof, to give it a fully insulated, strong, and smooth plastered ceiling, whilst keeping the original shape of your roof. It does all this without even having to change anything on the outside of your conservatory, so no planning permission is required. After cross-ventilating the ceiling, Cosy Conservatory installs a high performance composite insulation to the inside ceiling of the conservatory, there are multiple layers of reflective and insulating materials to reduce heat-loss by a stunning 90%. No other conservatory insulation solution can deliver anywhere near this figure. Your conservatory will stay warm in the Winter, and prevent the ‘greenhouse effect’ during Summer. You’ll therefore need to use far less energy to keep your conservatory warm, drastically reducing energy costs. After the support framework, cross ventilation, insulation and panelling is installed, the conservatory ceiling will then be plastered to perfection, allowing it to be painted in the colour of your choice. The entire process takes just 1 to 3 days to complete, depending on the size of the conservatory. Your conservatory ceiling will no longer look like a conservatory ceiling, but instead will match perfectly with all the other rooms of your house. And because the entire conservatory will be strengthened and insulated rain noise is reduced by 95%, so you can enjoy that dinner party without worrying whether it’s going to rain.

MAIN: After, ABOVE: Before

KEEP THE HEAT IN AND THE COLD OUT

Amazingly it has all these benefits, whilst at the same time costing less, on average, than ceiling blinds, and a quarter of the cost of plastic tile effect roof, making it the most cost effective solution available.

Are you at risk of losing your Hackney Carriage or Private Hire License?

Pubs, Clubs & Event Organisers The Festive season is nigh…

Are you ready?

Temporary Event Notices (TENs) were introduced to make provision for small scale oneoff events, or where Premises Licences do not cater for the needs of a particular function on a particular night. The festive period is nigh and licensed premises prepare for parties and functions but do you have the necessary licence to cater for your needs? Do you need extra hours for a special party? As Christmas creeps up pubs, clubs and restaurants may wish to consider applying for a Temporary Event Notice to increase the hours for the sale of alcohol and/or regulated entertainment for a Christmas, Boxing Day or New Year’s Eve Party or if you intend to hold any one off function or a special event outside your normal licensable hours.

Here at MG Legal Solutions we have a specialist licensing team dealing with all licensed premises’ requirements and we are local to you. We work with Premises Licence Holders and the authorities in achieving the best possible results in drafting and submitting Premises & Personal licence applications & TENs. We provide representation in committee hearings and on appeal at Magistrates Court. We are happy to offer an initial free consultation on any licensing matter so please feel free to call our expert, Andrea, head of our specialist licensing team, for a free initial consultation.

If you wish to apply for a TEN for the festive period then you need to act soon as notice is required by the Local Authority in advance of the event. The Licensing Act requires at least ten clear working days’ notice to the Licensing Authority when submitting a TEN excluding the day the notice is received, the day of the event, weekends and bank holidays. There is also provision for a late TEN application in special circumstances.

Keep the Grinch at bay this Christmas! CHRISTMAS TREES DECKED WITH BAUBLES AND LADEN WITH PRESENTS ARE A LOVELY SIGHT, ESPECIALLY FOR BURGLARS, SO IT IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVER TO MAKE SURE YOUR HOME IS SECURE AT THIS TIME OF YEAR.

During the whirlwind of Christmas shopping trips, festive activities and frequent visitors home security can slip and, as a consequence, burglaries increase by up to 20% over the winter months. With this in mind, the security experts at Yale have come up with some seasonal advice to stop the Grinch stealing your Christmas.

WHO’S AT THE DOOR? ‘Tis the season to be jolly and with more frequent visits from family and friends, as well as the odd carol singer, Yale recommends you look through your front door ‘spy hole’ and enable the door chain before swinging it open. Only release the chain if you are satisfied that the person at the door is really who they say they are and have identification to prove the purpose of their visit – if you are unsure, keep them out. For the latest in security technology, Yale’s recording digital door viewer has a built in camera so you can take still pictures of anyone who is at the door if you are unsure of their motives..

RAISE THE ALARM As well as visiting loved ones at Christmas more of us are enjoying winter breaks, so it’s important to make sure your home is protected while you’re away. Home alarms act as the perfect ‘security guard’, watching over your property while you’re not there. Alarms act as visual deterrents to potential burglars and are vital for alerting neighbours in the event of a break-in. Yale’s Easy Fit Alarm kits are quick and easy to install, and offer discreet protection for all types of properties, from flats to large family homes. Make sure all doors and windows are fitted with secure locks in line with British standards. External timber

Locks are also available for all types of windows, including wooden, aluminium and PVCu, as well as French doors and patio doors.

SAVE AS YOU

By Hannah Stephenson

PRESENTS, FOOD, DECORATION, ENTERTAINING - IT ALL ADDS UP. AND WHILE MOST OF US LOVE THE FESTIVITIES OF CHRISTMAS, THE EXTRA COST CAN CAUSE HEADACHES.

moneynet.co.uk advises setting a budget and sticking to it that way you'll have everything you need without the stress of overloaded credit cards once January rolls in. It might sound like a horrible task, but making a budget plan is actually quite easy. Just decide what you're going to buy, make a list and stick to it. Don't be tempted by those goodies on offer, that sale rack you're walking past or the tasty little treats at the checkout. And don't try to keep up with the neighbours, either. You'll only end up spending too much. shopping online, can work wonders for your stress levels, as you'll avoid all the busy, bustling shops and whether or not that musthave toy will actually be in stock or not. It also helps you to avoid temptation so that sale bargain simply can't fall into your basket unless you really want it to!

 Ask yourself how big the turkey really needs to be. You just need enough to feed the family and friends around your Christmas table, with a little left over for sandwiches on Boxing Day.

Don't go mad with luxury range Christmas items such as puds. People won't be that bothered if they don't see the wrapper. It's worth keeping an eye out for special offers and stocking up as and when you see the deals. Go shopping with a friend for things like big tins of chocolates. They're often on 'buy one get one free' offers so you can split the cost and share the savings. It's a good idea to buy wine in bulk as well. Lots of supermarkets offer extra discount if you buy six bottles. You can also print off discount food 20

vouchers at www.myvouchercodes. co.uk to save extra money - and don't  be afraid to ask anyone joining you    for lunch to be in charge of one part  of the meal. They'll enjoy feeling like   they've helped and you'll save some    pennies in the process. 

                     Those with toddlers should explore charity shops for quality second-hand toys in good condition. Clean them up, wrap them in Christmas paper and they'll never notice the difference. Toddlers are often far more interested in the wrapping paper anyway! For older children, splash out on a board game. It'll keep them entertained over the winter and will also occupy the whole family on Christmas Day.

And if that Christmas card list is making you feel guilty, send e-cards instead. It's more eco-friendly and you'll save money on cards and stamps. Or alternatively you could get the kids involved in making some. It's also worth taking advantage of the 'three for two' deals on offer in many shops. Marks & Spencer and Boots have an enormous range suitable for the whole family - you'll be amazed how the savings can add up. Advertise Call 0800 970 7687

CHRISTMAS Speak to friends and relatives and agree a limit as to how much you're going to spend on each other and each other's kids. If you have a big family, maybe only buy for the children - adults aren't going to mind when money's tight. You can save even more by making your own presents - and friends and family will love the personal touch. Try knitting a scarf, cook or bake something delicious and tie it up with a beautiful bow, or ask one of the children to paint a masterpiece and have it framed.

Let the little ones help make your own edible decorations, such as gingerbread Santas or star-shaped biscuits decorated with edible silver beads. They'll look fantastically festive and will keep children happy when they're in need of a sweet treat! 

  Get the kids involved with making the Christmas decorations this year. Dig out glitter and shiny paper from old craft boxes in the toy cupboard or stock up on tinsel, glue and paper chains from Poundland. Try sewing popcorn on to thread for a rustic mantelpiece decoration or scour your local park for pine cones and use them as decorations at the base of candles or in pot pourri - you can even jazz them up with gold or silver spray.

You may have splashed out on festive outdoor lights - but don't leave them on all night! Just a couple of hours in the evening will do, to get everyone in the mood. Inside, replace regular lights with energy saving ones. LED lights use less energy than conventional Christmas ones.

                   

If you want to go out, head for the nearest green space or beach to blow the cobwebs away on Christmas Day. Your library should list local walks and other events to keep the family amused. Try not to let your heating bill blow the budget: Turn your thermostat down by one degree. It may not sound like much but could cut your heating bills by up to 10 per cent. Keep the curtains closed when you go to bed to keep the heat in and use draught excluders by the front door to keep the cold air out.

Look for budget family days out with English Heritage (englishheritage.org.uk) too, where kids can listen to storytellers or take part in Christmas craft making. Alternatively, if you can't stand the thought of cooking, find a half-price restaurant meal deal from toptable.co.uk and let someone else worry about the washing up!

Preston Guilders Win Top Tourism Award The volunteers of Preston Guild 2012, affectionately known as ‘Guilders’, have scooped a top tourism award at the Marketing Lancashire ceremony on 7 November 2013. Preston City Council nominated the collective 250 Guilders in the ‘Outstanding Contribution to Tourism’ category at the Marketing Lancashire annual awards, held at Blackburn Cathedral. Councillor Tom Burns, cabinet member for culture and leisure, said: ‘This is a fantastic acknowledgement of the hard work and commitment that local people put into making Preston Guild 2012 so very special. I was very proud to accept the award, along with Rob Pratten (Guild Volunteer Co-ordinator) and four of the Guilders themselves. It was a great night
