Preston Local Plan to be Submitted Preston’s Local Plan, which identifies land for new housing and employment, is to be submitted to government and the city council is seeking the views of the public, developers and interested groups about whether the plan has been prepared correctly. The plan, completed by Preston City Council, is based upon previous consultation about which areas of land should be brought forward for development to meet Preston’s needs over the next 15 years. Comments on the plan can be submitted between 30 September and 25 November.

More information can be found at: www.preston. gov.uk/publicationlocalplan

Councillor John Swindells, deputy leader of the council, said: “This plan is a roadmap for future developments in the city. It is therefore extremely important that local people have their say in shaping the future of Preston over the next 15 years.

All the comments received will be submitted along with the plan to the independent planning inspectorate will then hold a public examination of the plan. This is expected to take place in Spring 2014.

“All comments will be carefully considered and submitted to the planning inspector.”

The Preston Local Plan will be available to view at the Town Hall, local libraries, leisure centres and other prominent locations in the city.

National Recognition For Historic Preston Parks Three of Preston’s most celebrated parks have been recognised as some of the most important and historic urban parks in the country, with a Grade II* listing from English Heritage. English Heritage decided to upgrade the parks from Grade II, after conducting a national review of 30 selected sites which recognised the heritage and historical importance of the three Preston Parks. Welcoming the upgraded listing of Moor Park and Avenham & Miller Parks on the register of parks and gardens of special historic interest in England, Councillor Robert Boswell, cabinet member for environment said: ‘This really is a fantastic achievement. Preston now has three parks - Moor Park, Avenham & Miller Parks that are rated Grade II* and one Grade II listed

at Haslam Park - recognised as nationally important on the historic parks register. This is great recognition of many years’ hard work and dedication in conserving and improving our parks, with the help of our partners. It also provides a superb acknowledgment of the Heritage Lottery Funds investment and support to date for the city of Preston and Preston’s parks’ • English Heritage maintains a Register of Historic Parks and Gardens which identifies landscapes of national importance. It includes some 220 urban parks. • As with listed buildings, urban parks are divided between three grades: • Grade I sites are of exceptional interest; • Grade II* sites are particularly important, of more than special interest; • Grade II sites are of special interest, warranting every effort to preserve them.
