Cloudy2Clear Windows – Service With A Smile! ADVERTISEMENT

It’s been a crazy few months for Cloudy2Clear Windows. The company which specialises in repairing windows which are steamed up, broken or damaged by replacing the panes – not the frames has grown rapidly as homeowners take advantage of their services. Branch Manager Paul Aspin feels that it’s all about service. ‘Our product is simple. If your double glazing is misted up we can replace the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new 5 year guarantee. But it’s not just about saving people money, although that obviously helps.

Many tradespeople have struggled since last year and I honestly feel that during the good times a minority perhaps didn’t focus on customer care as much as they should have done. We make sure we turn up when we say we will, do the job the customer requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle. I often get comments back from customers on how they really didn’t expect that sort of service which, in a way, is very sad for the service industry as a whole.’ Cloudy2Clear service the Ribble Valley area & Paul is finding that his approach is a major factor in his success. ‘The truth

is that it’s not just the personal satisfaction that I get from doing a good job but also it makes good business sense. I get a huge amount of business from friends and family of people I’ve done work for, which just

goes to show how much a little bit of effort is appreciated.’ So, if your windows are steamed up, broken or damaged give Paul a call for a free quotation on 0800 61 21 118 and he’ll be happy to help!

Shutters the way you want them

S

tyleshutters North West was registered in Feb. 2014 and is a sister company to Border Blinds Ltd which was established in the year 2000. An excellent reputation has been developed in the Ribble Valley and Pendle area over the last fifteen years. However, it was felt that with the increasing public awareness of wooden interior plantation shutters it would be more efficient to establish a separate company dealing exclusively and solely with shutter enquiries. All enquiries will be entitled to a free no obligation survey and estimate for both supplying and fitting. Please visit our showroom today or view our current products on the website.

Former health service director is new mayor A former health service director and public health champion is Ribble Valley’s new mayor

B

orn and brought up a stone’s throw from the famous Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland, Bridget Hilton trained as a nurse and midwife at Birch Hill Hospital in Rochdale. It was during midwifery training that Bridget witnessed the effect of poor social conditions on people’s health and wellbeing, which sparked a lifelong interest in public health. Bridget then undertook further professional training at Bradford University, before working as a health visitor in South Kensington. Two years later, she took up her first management post and spent the rest of her career in health sector management. After working in London for 10 years, she moved to Guildford in Surrey and in 1981 took up a senior management post with the then Blackburn, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley District Health Authority. Following NHS reorganisation, she was appointed to the post of director of operational services with the newly-established Communicare NHS Trust, which became the Hyndburn and Ribble Valley Primary Care Trust in 1995, where Bridget was appointed executive director of service provision. It was at her retirement presentation that former Ribble Valley Borough Council leader Chris Holtom suggested Bridget should stand as a borough councillor and she was duly elected to represent the Waddington and West Bradford in the local elections of 2007. In 2013, Bridget was appointed chairman of Ribble Valley Borough Council’s health and 14 housing committee and nominated to sit on the statutory health and wellbeing board at Lancashire County Council. She has been a coopted member of the county council’s health scrutiny committee since 2006.

Bridget has one adult son who lives and works in Manchester. Her mayoress is Mrs Kathleen Hill and her chosen charities are Dementia Care and Macmillan Cancer Support, both for services in Ribble Valley.

Bus Buddy scheme full steam

ahead for summer

Elderly residents in Ribble Valley are invited to hop aboard the borough council’s Bus Buddy scheme for a series of summer trips and walks

A

nd the scheme has proved so popular that volunteer bus buddies are sought to extend it into Longridge and villages.

Bus Buddy encourages older people to use buses, shows them how to get the most out of their NOW card, encourages companionship and overcomes isolation. The scheme is spearheaded by Ribble Valley Seniors’ Forum member and self-confessed ‘bus nut’ Brian Holden. Ribble Valley Borough Council partnership officer Dilys Day said: ‘We developed the Bus Buddy scheme to help older residents get out and about, and meet new people. Brian’s enthusiasm for the buses and the wonderful places they can access – all for free – is infectious and Bus Buddy is going from strength to strength since being launched last autumn. And the scheme has proved so popular that we are looking for more Bus Buddy leaders to help us extend it into Longridge and villages.’

for a quick briefing session, before setting off on a day trip. Connections to and from Whalley are scheduled into the programme. Upon reaching the destination, participants are free to do as they wish, whether shopping, sightseeing, or walking, before meeting for the return journey. Forthcoming trips include Preston or Southport on July 22 and Kirby Lonsdale on August 20. The scheme also organises a series of walks in Yorkshire on the last Sunday of each month. The walks are along quiet lanes and country hills, and warm, waterproof footwear and clothing are required, as well as a packed lunch. Forthcoming walks includ Rylstone on July 26 and Grassington via How Gill and Wood Nook on August 30. Bus Buddy volunteers will receive appropriate training and further details and timetables are available from Ribble Valley Borough Council on 01200 425111.

A flurry of first-rate art galleries and exhibition spaces have opened in the area in recent years and the Ribble Valley is also home to some outstanding public art projects, such as the Clitheroe Castle Labyrinth and Ribble Valley Sculpture Trail. At 300 square miles, most of which is in the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Ribble Valley offers peaceful and panoramic views as well as plenty of inspiration for creative minds and art enthusiasts. The Ribble Valley Arts Trail is putting visual arts in the Ribble Valley on the map and it is hoped the trail will expand in the future to include other art forms and exhibition spaces.

The forum provides a voice for all older people living within the Ribble Valley, anyone is welcometo attend, but the group is particularly keen to involve those aged 50+. We have a good working relationship with many older people’s organisations but are entirely independent and non-political. The Forum meets about every 6 weeks in different locations, and usually has an interesting speaker. Our meetings are open to all - come along and meet new people, and help to make a diffference. This year is the 5th event and the third at Stephen Park, Gisburn Forest. A family friendly festival – but by no means family exclusive. Line up includes; Dutch Uncles, The Wave Pictures, The Lovely Eggs, Haiku Salut, The Earlies, Jane Weaver, Ezra Furman and mutch more. Since leaving Bowland High School in 2007, Oliver has worked throughout in an IT role providing support to Lancashire County Council schools before working for Ribble Valley Borough Council. The Poors'land Barn premises have a spacious reception and training area which is used to support the community with training sessions for computer beginners. Oliver says: “We were grateful to have the opportunity to move into Poors’land Barn. This development will enable me to employ an extra two staff members, and will increase the amount of services we can offer. As well as running a profitable business, I am also focusing on supporting local community organisations by offering refurbished recycled computers to charities and local causes.”
