Cloudy2Clear Windows – Service With A Smile! ADVERTISEMENT

It’s been a crazy few months for Cloudy2Clear Windows. The company which specialises in repairing windows which are steamed up, broken or damaged by replacing the panes – not the frames has grown rapidly as homeowners take advantage of their services. Branch Manager Paul Aspin feels that it’s all about service. ‘Our product is simple. If your double glazing is misted up we can replace the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new 5 year guarantee. But it’s not just about saving people money, although that obviously helps.

Many tradespeople have struggled since last year and I honestly feel that during the good times a minority perhaps didn’t focus on customer care as much as they should have done. We make sure we turn up when we say we will, do the job the customer requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle. I often get comments back from customers on how they really didn’t expect that sort of service which, in a way, is very sad for the service industry as a whole.’ Cloudy2Clear service the Ribble Valley area & Paul is finding that his approach is a major factor in his success. ‘The truth

is that it’s not just the personal satisfaction that I get from doing a good job but also it makes good business sense. I get a huge amount of business from friends and family of people I’ve done work for, which just

goes to show how much a little bit of effort is appreciated.’ So, if your windows are steamed up, broken or damaged give Paul a call for a free quotation on 0800 61 21 118 and he’ll be happy to help!

Bus Buddy Scheme In The Fast Lane Elderly residents in Ribble Valley are invited to hop aboard the borough council’s new Bus Buddy scheme for a series of springtime trips. Bus Buddy encourages older people to use buses, shows them how to get the most out of their ‘NOW’ card, encourages companionship and overcomes isolation. The scheme is being spearheaded by Ribble Valley Seniors’ Forum member and self-confessed ‘bus nut’ Brian Holden.

The ‘Bus Buddies’ meet roughly once a month at the Platform Gallery in Station Road, Clitheroe, for a quick briefing session, before setting off on a day trip. Upon reaching the destination, participants will be free to do as they wish, whether shopping, sightseeing, or walking, before meeting for the return journey.

Ribble Valley Borough Council partnership officer Dilys Day said: ‘We have developed the Bus Buddy scheme to help older residents get out and about, and meet new people. Brian’s enthusiasm for the buses and the wonderful places they can access – all for free – is infectious and the first trip last autumn was very well received.’

Forthcoming trips include Preston or Southport on March 18 and Skipton or Settle on April 7.

‘Weigh To Go’ In Ribble Valley Amid National Health Alert

A weight management scheme available to Ribble Valley residents by self-referral is recruiting new participants. A lack of exercise can be just as deadly as obesity according to University of Cambridge researchers, who followed 334,161 Europeans for 12 years, assessing exercise levels as well as waistlines. Their research concluded that about 676,000 deaths a year were down to inactivity, compared with 337,000 from carrying too much weight alone. Ribble Valley Borough Council’s six-week Weigh-2-Go scheme offers free advice on healthy eating, an optional gym session and recreational activities at a small charge. Ribble Valley Borough Council’s health and

fitness officer, Tracy Balko, said: ‘This study once again reinforces the importance of being physically active, even when carrying excess weight. “Weigh-2-Go” has been a particularly successful programme and the self-referral pathway has enabled more people to take part. It is not a slimming club, but aims to give people a healthy eating plan, as well as encourage them to be more active.’ Weigh-2-Go is available by self-referral, but participants need to be above a certain weight in relation to their height. Sessions take place at the Roefield Leisure Centre in Edisford Road, Clitheroe, on Tuesdays. Further details are available from Ribble Valley Borough Council’s healthy lifestyles team on 01200 414484.

Final Straight For Mayor’s Borough Boundary Walk Thefinal stages of Ribble Valley Mayor Michael Ranson’s ambitious borough boundary walk take place over the coming months. Councillor Ranson has revived an ancient custom by walking the borough boundaries to raise cash for his chosen charities, Home-Start Ribble Valley and Crossroads Care Ribble Valley. He has been ‘beating the bounds’ by walking Ribble Valley’s 85-mile boundary in four to sixmile sections during his mayoral year. The latest section, from Longridge to Ribchester, took place on Saturday, February 28, with further walks in 18 and April, and a grand finale in May. March Residents are invited to join the walks and a reasonable level of fitness and mobility is required to take part, although at least one of the walks will be accessible to mobility scooters, pushchairs and wheelchairs.

Council Praised In Parliament After Freezing Tax For Sixth Year Ribble Valley Borough Council has announced a council tax freeze without cuts in jobs or services for the sixth year running – and been praised in Parliament for its efficiency.

T

he council has frozen its 2015/16 council tax without the need for compulsory redundancies or service cuts, despite a 14 per cent reduction in Government grants. Support for charities and voluntary organisations will also be maintained. And Secretary of State Eric Pickles has described the thrifty council as the “apple of my eye” during a parliamentary debate. Ribble Valley Borough Council’s share of the council tax on a Band D property will remain at £140.69, the lowest in Lancashire and one of the lowest in the country following a meeting of the council’s policy and finance committee last night (Tuesday, February 10). Council leader Stuart Hirst praised the dedication and hard work of council staff and councillors for delivering efficient and cost-effective services in difficult times. He said: ‘I am delighted that Ribble Valley’s share of the council tax is to be frozen and

core services protected for the sixth successive year. This has been achieved despite a reduction in core Government funding of 14 per cent, a total of 40 per cent since 2010. Ribble Valley has the lowest council tax in Lancashire and one of the lowest in the country, which is a significant achievement built on many years of careful financial planning.’ He Continued: ‘I am grateful to councillors and staff for their dedication and commitment in continuing to deliver efficient and cost-effective services, while maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction. I am particularly delighted that our sterling efforts have been praised in Parliament.’ Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans told the House of Commons that Ribble Valley Borough Council had frozen its council tax without reducing services and asked Eric Pickles to congratulate the council for doing so. The Secretary of State responded: ‘I congratulate Ribble Valley Borough Council, which is clearly the apple of my eye. I know it to be a very efficient authority and income levels in the borough are better, because councillors are dedicated to keeping council tax down.’ Council tax bills include precepts from Lancashire County Council, Lancashire Constabulary, Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service and parishes.
