Cloudy2Clear Windows – Service With A Smile! ADVERTISEMENT

It’s been a crazy few months for Cloudy2Clear Windows. The company which specialises in repairing windows which are steamed up, broken or damaged by replacing the panes – not the frames has grown rapidly as homeowners take advantage of their services. Branch Manager Paul Aspin feels that it’s all about service. ‘Our product is simple. If your double glazing is misted up we can replace the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new 5 year guarantee. But it’s not just about saving people money, although that obviously helps.

Many tradespeople have struggled since last year and I honestly feel that during the good times a minority perhaps didn’t focus on customer care as much as they should have done. We make sure we turn up when we say we will, do the job the customer requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle. I often get comments back from customers on how they really didn’t expect that sort of service which, in a way, is very sad for the service industry as a whole.’ Cloudy2Clear service the Ribble Valley area & Paul is finding that his approach is a major factor in his success. ‘The truth

is that it’s not just the personal satisfaction that I get from doing a good job but also it makes good business sense. I get a huge amount of business from friends and family of people I’ve done work for, which just

goes to show how much a little bit of effort is appreciated.’ So, if your windows are steamed up, broken or damaged give Paul a call for a free quotation on 0800 61 21 118 and he’ll be happy to help!

Community Champions sought for ‘People’s Peloton’ COMMUNITY champions are sought for a ‘people’s peloton’ to process around Clitheroe town centre prior to the start of Stage 2 the 2015 Aviva Tour of Britain.

T

he world’s top cyclists and tens of thousands of spectators look set to descend on Ribble Valley and Pendle on September 7 for the event, which will see 20 of the world’s top cycling teams, including Olympic and world champions, and Tour de France stage winners, power through the two boroughs on a tough 162km route from Clitheroe to Colne. Now the search is on for community champions and heroes to take part in a People’s Peloton under police escort prior to the start of the top race. Participants in the People’s Peloton will get a taste of taking part in a major sporting event, as well as recognition for their positive contribution to the Ribble Valley community. Ribble Valley Borough Council leader Stuart Hirst said: “The Tour of Britain is the most significant event in Ribble Valley’s 40-year history and we want the community to join us in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. “Rather like the Olympic torchbearers in London 2012, we are looking for Ribble Valley’s unsung heroes and heroines to enjoy their moment in the spotlight. “The Tour of Britain attracts a huge following, as well as an international television audience, so is the ideal showcase for Ribble Valley’s community champions.” After departing Clitheroe, Stage 2 of the 2015 Aviva Tour of Britain will complete a clockwise route via the Nick o’ Pendle, Longridge, Dunsop Bridge and Slaidburn in the

Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, before heading into Pendle via Barnoldswick and Earby, briefly returning to Clitheroe, then on to Whalley, Nelson and the finish in Colne. The event will be broadcast internationally by 16 television channels across 139 territories in Europe, Australia and the USA. ITV will screen three hours of live coverage every day and a one-hour highlights programme at night. Nominees for the People’s Peloton can be community champions from any walk of life, but they must live in Ribble Valley, have access to a bike, be able to cycle a 1km route around the town centre and be available on Monday, September 7. To nominate someone for the People’s Peloton, write in 100 words or so why you think they should take part. The closing date for nominations is Friday, August 28, and participants will be chosen at random. Nominations must include contact details and can be made at thetour@ribblevalley. gov.uk, or by post to Theresa Sanderson, Principal Communications Officer, Ribble Valley Borough Council, Council Offices, Church Walk, Clitheroe, BB7 2RA.

Ribble Valley has the Best Rural

Quality of Life

Ribble Valley has the best rural quality of life in the North West according to a top survey

A

nd Clitheroe is the eighth best market town in which to live in the UK according to a national newspaper.

Residents of Ribble Valley enjoy the best quality of life of any rural area in the North West, according to the 2015 Halifax Rural Areas Quality of Life Survey. The survey took a wide range of factors into account, including crime rates, employment, school results, broadband access, health and wellbeing, life expectancy and the weather! Ribble Valley Borough Council leader Stuart Hirst said: “These results reveal what we have always known, that Ribble Valley is one of the UK’s hidden gems. “The council works hard with its partners to keep crime rates low and ensure the borough remains one of the best places in the country in which to live, work and raise a family. “And although only a small rural authority the council has an excellent record of success, enjoying a level of customer satisfaction that is the envy of neighbouring authorities, as well as healthy reserves and one of the lowest council tax rates in the country. “All of this is down to elected members, who draw upon many diverse talents, a committed senior management team and a loyal and dedicated workforce.

“We are delighted with these results and might have fared even better in the survey had it not been for the weather!” The survey found that southern areas tended to receive higher ratings for weekly earnings and the weather, while northern areas scored better on education, lower house prices in relation to earnings, lower traffic flows and population densities. Ribble Valley is the safest place in Lancashire and one of the safest in the UK, with around 28 crimes recorded annually for every 1,000 residents, which is significantly below the national average and the lowest in Lancashire. The borough is also one of the UK’s premier food destinations and on September 7 will host Stage 2 of the Aviva Tour of Britain, the UK’s largest free-to-spectate sporting event. Clitheroe was also recently placed eighth in the UK’s Top 10 Market Towns by the Times newspaper, while Whalley was named one of the Top 10 Places to Live in the UK by the Sunday Times. Tasty £800 on the menu for luncheon clubs A TASTY £800 is on the menu for Ribble Valley community groups to start or improve luncheon clubs.

T

he money can be used to start a new club, develop an existing one by buying new crockery or cookware, or providing activities. It can also be used to support other projects that engage older residents on a regular basis, such as coffee mornings and afternoon teas. Luncheon clubs, sometimes called lunch clubs, provide older people with the opportunity to socialise over a regular hot nutritious meal. They can have a membership of a few up to dozens and operate in a range of venues, such as pubs, restaurants, community or church halls. Ribble Valley Borough Council’s partnership officer, Dilys Day, said: “Luncheon clubs keep older people engaged in local life, giving them a sense of involvement and belonging. “They provide an essential service in rural areas, by offering a friendly meeting place for those who cannot readily leave their village and consequently suffer isolation and loneliness. “They also help in the identification of underlying problems 18 that may contribute to a decline in health, thus helping to make the lives of older residents safer and healthier.” The popular Mellor Luncheon Club has been meeting at the Mellor Methodist Church Hall for 10 years and receives annual funding from Ribble Valley Borough Council. 18

An enthusiastic team of volunteer cooks and helpers serve a hot two-course meal made from fresh local produce followed by tea or coffee every Friday. For just £4, participants can enjoy a range of dishes, including salmon hollandaise with new potatoes and vegetables, followed by peaches and cream, or a club favourite, sausage casserole with Yorkshire pudding. Cook Jean Walmsley said: “We have about 16 members, who really look forward to attending. They don’t just receive a hot meal, but get to socialise, too. They really enjoy each other’s company and get dressed up for the occasion. It’s a fabulous atmosphere.” Mellor councillor Stella Brunskill added: “The Mellor Luncheon Club is an invaluable part of village life and the committed team of volunteers who run it are to be congratulated for providing such an essential and much-loved service.” Community groups interested in starting or improving a lunch club are invited to a meeting in the Ribble Valley Borough Council Chamber in Church Street, Clitheroe, on Thursday, September 17, from 10.30am to noon. Further details are available from Dilys Day on 01200 425111. ABOVE: TASTY OFFER – Dilys Day and Stella Brunskill (right) with members of the Mellor Luncheon Club.

Our main activities are monthly social meets (on a Thursday evening where there is often a guest speaker and always a bar!) and monthly outdoor meets (usually one Sunday per month and one weekend per month). Our climbers now have a ‘blog’ which you can see on this link: http://clitheroeclimbers.blogspot.co.uk/

WHEN IT COMES TO HOME IMPROVEMENTS, YOU KNOW YOU ARE THE BEST AT WHAT YOU DO WHEN SARAH BEENY REQUIRES YOUR SERVICES TO WORK ON HER OWN HOME. RESIN DRIVES BASED IN BRADFORD WON THE CONTRACT TO RE-SURFACE SARAH’S 450 METRE DRIVEWAY EARLIER THIS YEAR, JUST ANOTHER CELEBRITY NAME TO ADD TO THEIR CUSTOMER LIST AS THEY ALSO TRANSFORMED URI GELLER’S 2,000 METRE DRIVE LAST YEAR. Being a well-known expert at home improvements and restoration work to property that adds aesthetic and monetary value, Sarah wants only the best people when it comes to working on her own home and obviously the reputation for the standard and high quality of work Resin Drives in Bradford provides is spreading and reaching people at the highest level. The Background Resin bound drives were traditionally used in the commercial sector as the range of colours and patterns lend themselves perfectly to corporate colours and logos and have been used for hotels, company headquarters and even premiership football clubs and soon the more prestigious home builders wanted resin drives for their new developments as they definitely add the ‘wow factor’. The aggregate is supplied in a large choice of standard and bespoke shades making the decorative potential unique to your taste and colour scheme, and the use of templates on site means that virtually any pattern and style can be achieved, including lettering and images within your driveway.

giving it all round better traction for tyres, making it safer for walking on and last but not least, it’s up to 10 times more eco-friendly than concrete. Some companies will lay resin on hard-core, however you should really only lay resin drives on concrete or asphalt. With a tired looking tarmac drive that’s still in relatively good condition then a resin bound drive can transform it in comparatively quick time.

Kerb Appeal Home owners and house builders alike recognise that differentiating a property’s façade from neighbouring homes can have a positive impact on value and with the decorative potential that Resin Drives provides, it’s the deal way to do just that.

Guarantee The completed driveway itself is porous so there’s no issues with drainage, it’s resistant to weed growth and occasional power washing is all the maintenance that’s required. Resin Drives offer a 5 Year Insurance Backed Guarantee on all of their installations.

Achieve stunning results At their large premises in Bradford, they have constructed a state of the art external showroom to give customers an understanding of what resindrives. co.uk are all about and the options available on colour and finish. Resin Drives believe in looking after our environment and are taking steps to lower their carbon footprint. All of their resin drives are made up of natural stone and 100% organic resin, which look fantastic, and is as strong and durable as concrete, without the heavy cost to the planet. Resin completely transforms driveways, patio areas and even something as simple as a path.

Why Resin over concrete, block paving or tarmac? That’s simple; their product naturally drains water through the finished surface which means no more puddles. It is also resistant to weeds, hence
