My life ... DR MEGAN ROSSI, THE GUT HEALTH DOCTOR, RESEARCH FELLOW AT KING’S COLLEGE LONDON & CO-FOUNDER OF BIO&ME

How would you describe yourself ? Hard-working, a bit of a nerd and a stickler for detail. Where is home? And work? Home is London. Home home is Cairns in Queensland, Australia! My working life is split between King’s College London and my clinic in London, The Gut Health Clinic, and Bio&Me, which is based in Chester. What did you want to be when you were younger? A dentist. Name a few of your favourite places to be... One of my favourite places to go on holiday is Crete, it’s such a beautiful island that’s perfect for a family holiday. Italy is where I got married, so that’s always going to be a special place for me too (and of course, for the food!). My Co-Founder, Jon lives in Chester with his twin 10-year-old daughters, Charlotte and Romilly (Bio&Me’s Chief Taste Testers!). They’ve taken me to Chef’s Table for a ‘posh’ dinner and then to The Glynne Arms in Hawarden for some proper pub grub. But my favourite time has been walking along the banks of the River Dee from Eccleston to the Grosvenor Arms in Pulford. When it comes to weekend breaks, we also love visiting the Cotswolds. There’s nothing better than going on a long country walk and then coming back and relaxing in front of a log fire.

Helping educate people on the importance of their gut microbiome is one of the things I love about the work I do

What or who inspires you? My mum. She was a single mum and worked full time as well. I had a really fun, loving childhood and it never felt like we missed out on anything. She continues to drive me moving forward and is probably the reason why I have such a strong work ethic. What was the last gift you gave someone? I just bought someone a cheese making set. Fermenting food is a great way to get in touch with your inner world of microbes (that is the trillions of bacteria that call your gut home) and I think it’s really important (and fun) to learn about the way in which different foods are made. Tell us a secret/fun fact? I was born 10lb 5oz with a full head of black hair. That’s usually something people find surprising! Who or what would you place in room 101? Snakes and green frogs! I grew up on a farm in Australia and they used to enjoy frequenting our toilet, so that’s given me a bit of a phobia. They would definitely have to go in room 101. Your mastermind subject? Now that would definitely have to be the gut microbiome, since it’s an area I’m incredibly passionate about. I get very excited learning and talking about the topic. Helping educate people on the importance of their gut microbiome is one of the things I love about the work Ido - and is the basis of Bio&Me. What’s been your biggest life lesson? Teamwork makes the dream work. If you want to succeed, then you need to have an incredibly dedicated, talented, and fun team around you. It’s just not possible to do everything yourself. bioandme.co.uk 17

Manche ster Art Fair The popular art event returns in 2023 with its biggest ever show

F

ounded in 2008, Manchester Art Fair has quietly established itself as one of the UK’s largest and most significant art fairs over the last 15 years, earning the praise of some of the country’s most respected figures in the art-world. Contrary to early doubters, who advised the show’s owners Thom Hetherington and Sophie Helm that a consumer art event would never work in the city, Manchester Art Fair has successfully broken down the barriers to buying art in the North, creating an accessible and enjoyable event that has attracted over 90,000 visitors since inception and amassed almost £6m in art sales. Last year, despite all the economic challenges, the acclaimed event, which is proud to have showcased the work of Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst, David Hockney, Antony Gormley, Banksy, and Stanley Chow, amongst others, celebrated record numbers, with over 13,309 visitors and art sales totalling £850,000 over the three-day event. Set to return to Manchester Central this November 17-19, Manchester Art Fair 2023 will be the biggest edition to date, with a 35% increase in floor space leading to additional artists and galleries

exhibiting and even more space for visitors to stand back and appreciate the works on display. Over 140 UK and international individual artists, galleries, and artist led spaces are confirmed to show with new entrants including Demif Gallery, British Art Portfolio, Art Court, and First Contemporary featuring alongside returning exhibitors Saul Hay Gallery, Hidden Gallery, and Carnes Fine Art. Representing Cheshire will be local artists Gareth Tristan Evans (aka The Trunk of Funk), Louisa Boyd, and Tricia Harrison, who was inspired to become an artist by the pastel portraits of interesting local characters her mother used to create, when growing up in South Africa. Speaking ahead of the acclaimed event’s return, Managing Director of Manchester Art Fair, Sophie Helm said: “We can’t wait to bring the community built by Manchester Art Fair back together in November. Once again, we are stepping up our ambitions for the fair by introducing a uniquely diverse mix of acclaimed galleries and independent artists alongside a rich programme of talks, workshops, and installations. It’s the only fair for the collector, the

curator, and the simply curious.” Sitting alongside Manchester Art Fair and adding to the breadth of work is The Manchester Contemporary, a collegiate fair for young galleries, artist-led spaces, charitable organisations, and partner institutions providing a critically engaged environment for artistic exploration and development. The full list of galleries and artists, along with a preview of some of the work which will be available to buy, can be seen on the Manchester Art Fair website. The fair opens with a VIP preview evening at Manchester Central on Friday 17 November from 5-9pm, followed by public days on Saturday 18th (10am-6pm) and Sunday 19th (10am – 4pm). Tickets are available now at manchesterartfair.co.uk and priced at £10 for a weekend ticket or £25 for a preview ticket. manchesterartfair.co.uk 23

Engl ngliish Pea earr weett Pe Peaa & Swee Jo Malone London’s Global Head of Fragrance Céline Roux talks about the new English pear fragrances with perfumer Anne Flipo

What started Jo Malone London’s interest in the English pear?

Céline: There are few more British sights than a pear tree, whether that’s in someone’s garden or in a beautiful orchard. We chose to celebrate the English orchard at the end of summer through English Pear & Freesia. We came across the poem ‘To Autumn’ by romantic poet John Keats and this helped us to evolve the idea, particularly the imagery around that time of year filling ‘all fruit with ripeness to the core’. To us, the pear represents that feeling of ripeness and fruitfulness just beautifully. They have been such a staple of the English orchard for hundreds of years a place where we can find so much to be inspired by.

You focused on the Williams pear for English Pear & Freesia. What is so special about it? Céline: It’s such an interesting, sensual and noble fruit, with a curve that reminds you of a woman’s body. The russet colours that come with the change of seasons, the taste, the weight, the slightly grainy texture, I could go on! Williams pears are fresh and vibrant, some of the first pears of the season. We loved them so much we wanted to capture them authentically, but fruit is so hard to extract naturally in perfumery due to its high water content.

This leads us on nicely to talking about the new fruit extract.

Céline: To push the boundaries of the industry and reinforce Jo Malone London’s 26

fragrance authority and craftsmanship, we were determined to have our own natural pear fruit extract. Using natural pear in perfumery is very unusual due to the fruit’s high water content so the ingredient wasn’t available in the perfumer’s palette, but we didn’t let the challenges stop us.

How did you go about creating the pear extract?

Céline: We looked outside of the fragrance industry for a solution and we found it within the food industry, where pears are steamed for fruit juice. From this process we take the pear

Talk us through why you chose the sweet pea.

water which would otherwise go to waste. In this way, the ingredient is upcycled to create something new that we can use in perfumery. It’s a little like cooking but in much bigger quantities - imagine steaming pears in your kitchen and the delicious smell you get. The pear water is then concentrated multiple times to achieve the final extract which is the equivalent of one pear in every bottle. It’s easy to visualise and a simple and powerful message - a real contrast with the two years’ work it took to develop. This natural pear fruit extract is exclusive to Jo Malone London and forms the basis of the pear accord in both English Pear & Freesia and English Pear & Sweet Pea.

Let’s go back to the English orchard as a source of inspiration. What have you found there this time around?

Céline: English Pear & Freesia was our first journey into the orchard, and it has become one of our all-time favourite fragrances. We loved the pear note so much that we started to wonder what else we could do with it—what other flowers it could be ‘married’ to. Pretty soon, the idea for English Pear & Sweet Pea was born, as not only do I personally love sweet peas, they also felt like a perfect match for English pear.

Céline: There were so many wonderful English flowers to choose from as a companion for the pear. The freesia is a classic of both gardens and orchards, with white petals perched on top of long green stems. In English Pear & Freesia, it balances the luscious fruitiness of English pear with a lovely, elegant softness. The sweet pea flower offered a different appeal: its petals are blowsy rather than upright, and appear in pastel hues of mauve and lilac, coral, peach and pink. It also has a kind of delicacy and softness but can give off quite a powerful scent too. Marrying it with the pear allowed us to explore a different kind of olfactive. We asked Anne Flipo to help us imagine this new combination, such was our experience of working together with florals, and this was the start of English Pear & Sweet Pea.

How did you go about capturing the flower’s characteristics?

Céline: We often get sweet peas in our flower deliveries to the Jo Malone London Townhouse from our resident florist, Scarlet & Violet. I remember photographing them once and sending the pictures to Anne and saying, ‘the fragrance has to be pastel.’ We were guided by the aesthetic of the flower: this, as well as the scent, gave us an olfactive direction from the start.

Anne, what was your brief for creating English Pear & Sweet Pea?

Anne: I was thrilled to work with such an iconic ingredient, the English pear. The challenge was to offer a new olfactive interpretation of it while staying true to its original signature. The sweet pea flower gave us the chance to do this by exploring a new kind of floralcy. As Céline has 27

explained, sweet pea is quite different to freesia, both in appearance and scent. It was the colours of the sweet pea that really provided the focus point in the creation of the scent.

Talk us through the development of the fragrance.

Anne: Translating this pastel concept into fragrance was definitely the most interesting aspect of the development. It’s one thing to know what pastel means visually, but another to recreate it olfactively, alongside the fresh, green, dewy aspects of the flower. And we also had the challenge of how to craft a bunch of sweet peas to complement the olfactive structure of English pear. I think the fragrance is a fascinating evolution for this beloved key ingredient.

How would you describe the olfactive profile of the fragrance? Anne: English Pear & Sweet Pea is a light floral fragrance with the sensuous freshness of luscious fruits enveloped in soft sweet peas. I think of it as a garden-fresh floral.

How did you create the pastel effect?

Anne: The olfactive effect of pastel to me is softness, so I used ambrette seeds to wrap the luscious note of pear and white musk to help the softness leave a lasting trail as the fragrance is worn. Dewy rose brings the floral garden freshness appeal. Finally, woody patchouli and warm tonka add comfort, sensuality and make it easy to wear.

Describe English Pear & Sweet Pea in a few words. Céline: Pastel-soft, luscious and romantic. Anne: Luminous, delicate and sensual.

What do you think makes English Pear & Sweet Pea a characteristically Jo Malone London fragrance?

Céline: Like every fragrance we create, English 28

Pear & Sweet Pea is true to our brand DNA. The Englishness of the story, the clarity of the scent, the uncompromising focus on key ingredients and the freshness and wearability of the scent are all recognisable Jo Malone London traits and are all present in this new fragrance. We’re really proud of it.

How do the two English pear fragrances contrast with one another?

Céline: English Pear & Freesia really captures the elegance of bright, white freesias and English Pear & Sweet Pea the exquisite pastel softness of sweet peas. They both olfactively describe the different architecture of the flowers, and the differences in colour, scent and texture are all there in the subtle interplay of fruit and florals. The luscious, fruity signature of the English pear note takes centre stage in both fragrances, of course, but it’s as if you’re exploring different avenues of the same English orchard.

How would you recommend pairing English Pear & Sweet Pea?

Céline: I think both English pear fragrances combine really well together, mixing dewy fresh notes with a touch of sensuality. I also really like pairing English Pear & Sweet Pea with Blackberry & Bay to create a soft fruity fragrance. jomalone.co.uk

F I N D YO U R F I T w it h C l a r e S tob toba ar t Padel, the game that’s sweeping the globe has found its way to my heart and I can’t help but share my newfound obsession

P

adel has become increasingly popular worldwide and more recently has taken Cheshire by storm and is one of the fastest growing sports in the UK. It’s easier to learn than traditional Tennis and once you get the bug for it, it’s impossible to put your racket down. What sets Padel apart from traditional tennis is its accessibility and ease of learning. Padel is a sport for anyone and everyone. While it incorporates elements of Tennis and Squash, you play doubles on a court 25% smaller than a tennis court surrounded by glass or walls. As the court is smaller than Tennis, the game is faster, giving you the opportunity to play more shots in a match therefore the action is non-stop and the excitement knows no bounds. That’s the world of Padel, where every match is a high-octane thrill ride. In our Padel matches we have introduced a touch of fun, every double fault, or a crushing 6-0 defeat, results in a mandatory limoncello shot! It’s all part of the camaraderie and laughter that makes Padel not just a sport but a way of life. I love Padel so much that I am out on the court in all weathers! From 40 degrees heat to snowy conditions. I can’t resist a game. We even joke that Padel has become the third wheel in my marriage, that’s how dedicated I am. And if you ask anyone who’s dived into this sport, they will tell you the same. When I step onto the court, it’s like entering

42

a different world allowing me to totally switch off from the humdrum of everyday life and really be absorbed in the moment. It’s a brilliant way to clear my mind and workout at the same time. My 7 year old daughter also shares my passion and together we play at The Padel Club in Wilmslow, a place that promotes “competitive socialising”. It’s a true community of like-minded people where you can jump into a game at any level. Ben Goodeve, the professional coach is a fantastic instructor and mentor. BASIC RULES OF THE GAME: • An underarm serve, sending the ball diagonally into the opposite corner service box of your opponent’s side. • Your shots can be played off the walls, however, once hit the glass/wall you must hit the ball before it hits the ground otherwise it is classed as “out”. • You can volley the ball. • The ball is classed “out” if the ball hits the glass/wall before touching the ground. • You are allowed to smash the ball out of the court once it hits the ground on your opponent’s side.

SCORING Scoring in Padel is very similar to tennis, with matches typically played in three sets of six games. To win, a team must secure two out of the three sets and points are awarded 15, 30, 40 with the famous “deuce” at 40-40 leading to a thrilling tiebreak. In some matches “a golden point” is played meaning the next point wins the game. INTERESTING FACTS Padel balls have a lower pressure than Tennis Balls and are 8% smaller. My passion for Padel has even taken me across the globe; I trained in Malaga, gaining my Level 1 Competitive Coaching Certification as well as playing in 40-degree heat in Dubai. My Padel obsession has given me some valuable insights and tips that might just give you the edge next time you step onto the court. HERE ARE A FEW OF MY FAVOURITE TIPS: #1 - Slow it down: Take the pace of your shots, don’t hit the ball too hard. By going slowly it allows you to be more consistent. Use the walls strategically; let the ball bounce and hit off the back wall, then return the shot. #2 - Mirror your partner: If your partner runs forward to hit a shot, you should follow them, in doing so it stops you opening up the court for the opponent to hit into a space that’s not covered if you were to be diagonally positioned. Co-ordinate your movements with your partner. It not only prevents gaps in defence, but it also optimises court control, whether you playing offence or defence.

#3 - Move your feet: Keeping your weight forward on your front foot for better shot accuracy, whether you’re on the attack or defending. It improves the balance, positioning and overall control. #4 - Perfect your shots: The “chiquita” is a challenging but rewarding shot near the net. The “bandeja” is your go-to for countering lobs when at the net. #5 - Communication is key: Co-ordinate strategies, plan shots and avoid collisions with your partner. When the ball goes down the middle of the court, you need to decide who is going to return it. If you can see a returned ball is going out, let your partner know not to hit it. I shout “leave” which has helped us win a fair few points. Open communication enhances teamwork and decision-making. #6 - Choose your equipment wisely: Beginners should start with a round light padel racket for a larger sweet spot for control. As you progress, consider a teardrop or diamond racket for more power. A diamond racket is common among professional players. Padel is an exhilarating and captivating sport that not only promotes physical fitness but also fosters a sense of community, connecting you with new people whenever you play. Padel is undoubtedly a sport worth trying. You won’t be disappointed!

JESS MELLORS, GENERAL MANAGER AT THE MANOR HOUSE HOTEL AND SPA, ALSAGER Talk us through your location. The Manor House Alsager is located in beautiful East Cheshire and allows our guests to effortlessly retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life and enjoy a refreshing countryside getaway. Additionally, we are perfectly positioned an hour away from the picturesque Peak District, allowing guests the opportunity to indulge in a day of invigorating hikes and then rejuvenate with a twilight relaxing spa session and overnight stay at our spa and hotel. What can you tell us about the history of the venue? Originally a farmhouse, this 17th century architectural building has been running as a hotel for the past 30 years, with our family buying the business over 10 years ago. My brother and I currently oversee both the hotel and spa business, all with support from our parents, upholding the family-run essence at the heart of the business. Features from the original design and architecture still remain, notably the grand wooden beams located in the Stables restaurant and treatment rooms. We believe it’s so important to keep elements of history within the hotel and spa, recognising the importance of how this history brings character and narrative to the spa and hotel.

44

Of all the facilities, which is your favourite? My personal favourite is the Panoramic Pavilion, located out in the English Countryside Spa Garden. This serene spot is so tranquil and peaceful and really makes for a true escape, here guests can unwind in the calm atmosphere surrounded by the beautiful countryside views. The relaxing space is enhanced by the heated floors and heated loungers, which facilitate deep, penetrating warmth that envelops the body as guests recline and relax. A fun element of this room is the hanging swing seats, and the room is held at around 30-35 degrees Celsius. This tricks the body into thinking it is starting to get a fever, in turn strengthening the immune system. So not only do guests relax the body, mind and soul but they also can improve their immune system at the same time. What makes a visit to your venue stand out? The standout element undoubtedly has to be the Swim Up Bar, which is the first of its kind in the UK. This innovative bar is connected to the heated vitality pool, which is perfect for all-yearround relaxation, complete with hydrotherapy jets within the beds and benches, helping release any tension. Whilst relaxing in the pool guests can release some extra tension with a delicious cocktail, or in the colder months enjoy a warm

beverage, making it the perfect spot to be no matter the weather. This unique space is a wonderful spot for solo spa-goers, couples, friends and groups to gather and relax in pure luxury. What packages are you offering for 2023? Throughout the year we offer seasonal packages, that include access to the indoor and outdoor spa, as well as a delicious afternoon tea or mezze platter in the pool house. Our Lazy Spa Sunday package is particularly popular, this package includes dinner, bed and breakfast, with a bottle of wine at dinner and a spa day on the Monday, and for an extra charge, guests can book in a treatment. This package encompasses everything Manor House Hotel and Spa can offer, whilst meeting the needs and desires of our customers. The rise of wellness prioritisation means that people are often opting to extend their weekends choosing to add an extra day to their weekend to allow for some well-deserved self-care time. manorhousealsager.com

Women’s Wellness Gets a Head Start HotTea Mama, the multi-award-winning tea brand supporting women’s wellness, has introduced its brand-new Head Start blend. Uniquely backed by science the whole leaf tea is bursting with carefully selected ingredients. The blend of white peony tea and whole rosebuds makes it naturally high in caffeine (higher than a standard cup of English breakfast tea), while the presence of theanine gives it a gentle slow-release effect. A cup of Head Start will provide a long, gentle boost to support women all day long and ensure that they swerve the palpitations or adverse effects of a direct hit of caffeine. Ideal for the weary-eyed newborn days, after a poor night’s sleep, or simply when a morning (or afternoon) lift is needed. The presence of Rosebuds also provides anti-inflammatory soothing properties, whilst the White Peony tea is packed with antioxidants, helping with focus and brain function for those brain dog moments. Uplifting, and balanced, the tea itself is delicately floral, mellow and fragrant, with notes of melon and cucumber. From £6, hollandandbarrett.com

T h e Pict Pic ture Jaine Briscoe-Price on getting the most from clients, shooting in the great outdoors and working with the best wedding venues in the North West

O

ver the last 25 years, Jaine has developed her style to encompass creative portraiture, from new additions to the family to large family get-togethers and weddings. She also offers confidenceboosting shoots such as teen makeovers and boudoir sessions at her studio. How do you work with your clients to get the best out of them? Putting everyone at ease is the key, plus having confidence in what I am going to create and a vision of the finished imagery. I encourage people to be themselves. Most clients need simple, relaxed direction that they can interpret to convey who they are. This removes those stiff poses and fixed smiles, whilst still producing flattering, timeless pictures that will be enjoyed for years to follow. One of the very best parts of my role is seeing the emotional reactions at my private cinematic viewings; last week I had brides crying reliving their amazing day, grandparents dabbing tears

watching their family’s interactions during the photoshoot and equine mums sobbing as they saw images of their beloved horses and dogs appear on screen. You have produced some stunning rural shoots – what do you enjoy about shooting in the great outdoors? I grew up in the countryside, so every day delivers a different backdrop. Each portrait session might create a memory for a particular family so I happily take commissions at client’s homes across the North West, in the Lake District, in Anglesey or wherever they want to capture their lasting memories. You’ve worked in every major wedding venue throughout the North West. How do you work with couples to keep wedding shoots unique? We are so blessed with the most amazing wedding venues in the North West, and I have been fortunate to work in so many. Initially, a couple will meet with me to see if our styles suit. Once booked, I include a complimentary pre-wedding location photoshoot; it’s the perfect way to get to know them a little more; to see them in front of my lens and give them the gentle tips and direction that will ensure their wedding photography is perfect. Timing is key on a wedding day, so

I suggest a time plan that will encourage them to glide through the day, enjoying every moment yet enabling me to capture the stunning images that will be designed into an Italian wedding book. This very personal approach is what builds our relationship and keeps their wedding imagery unique to them. Digital files are now the norm; however, I have stayed true to my initial profession and prefer to design a bespoke wedding album rather than hand over a USB of files which will sit in a drawer and be forgotten about within a few months. The CHESHIRE Magazine | Family

Is the Futu uturre of Busiiness ‘Fema Bus ‘Fem ale’? The Cheshire Magazine asked senior members of HM3 Legal what they believe are the leadership traits required for a business to flourish

What are key leadership traits?

Richard: Leadership characteristics are rapidly changing. Traits typically referred to as ‘female’ or ‘feminine’ including empathy, collaboration, emotional intelligence, and communication skills are vital. While not exclusive to any gender, these attributes have historically been associated with women and are reshaping what modern leadership looks like. Gone are the ego-hungry days of David Brent. Thankfully!

How do these traits contribute to effective leadership?

Caroline: So-called female traits bring a refreshing dynamic, fostering a harmonious and inclusive approach that is reshaping company culture. This is in action at HM3 as most of our lawyers are women, and I notice that: • Empathy allows us to grasp the unique needs of others, nurturing a supportive work environment. • Collaboration empowers us to harness diverse perspectives, enriching creativity. • Emotional intelligence aids in making nuanced decisions that consider alternative inputs. • Exceptional communication skills inspire and motivate, aligning teams and client needs.

Which successful leaders are embodying these traits?

Ian: Emma Walmsley, CEO of GlaxoSmithKline, exemplifies these traits. Her leadership style fosters a work culture of open dialogue and diverse viewpoints (Financial Times, 2023). And the Lionesses! Sarina Wiegman’s exceptional influence translates into

L TO R - IAN (COMMERCIAL PROPERTY), JUSTINE (EMPLOYMENT), RUTH (PRIVATE CLIENT), LINDSEY (MD), RICHARD (COMMERCIAL DIRECTOR), CAROLINE (PROPERTY), ANNE (CORPORATE).

powerful teamwork on the pitch. Karren Brady is also championing empathy and communication as a businesswoman and on TV.

Is recognition growing for these traits?

Anne: Certainly. The UK Government’s Gender Diversity on Boards Review emphasised the need for a range of leadership qualities, including those traditionally associated with women. The 2021 report highlighted that companies with balanced representation tend to outperform their peers. The legal sector is known for being traditional. This is one reason why we are challenging conventional ways of delivering legal services.

How can aspiring leaders cultivate these traits?

Justine: Cultivating such traits requires self-awareness and proactive development. Active listening is a biggie. It enhances understanding and seeking collaborations fosters inclusivity. Nurturing emotional intelligence allows leaders to navigate complex situations with insight.

Our team finds that workshopping and mentoring enables staff at all levels to convey their ideas. We’re like magpies, cherry picking good practice and learning from other disciplines. Why is this important? Because our clients expect us to come up with innovative legal solutions. Surviving vs Thriving Lindsey: The allure of ‘female’ traits is reshaping leadership, enabling some companies to go beyond survival mode. While applicable to all, acknowledging the power of empathy and collaboration contributes to more holistic leadership. Figures like Jacinda Ardern, the 40th Prime Minister of New Zealand ignited remarkable transformations. As the UK’s business landscape evolves, celebrating these qualities is poised to create a dynamic and thriving leadership fabric. Ignore them at your peril. Embrace them to thrive. Does this sound like your kind of legal team? Contact: Richard Burnett, Partner and Commercial Director, HM3 Legal. M: 07983 637149 E: rhb@law.uk.com 53

Enemigo 00 Extra Anejo Tequila

loves

Distilled in the town of Tequila, 00 Extra Añejo is distinguished by its purity. It is distilled using a clean, environmentally conscious method that uses recycled agave instead of fossil fuels. During production, each 100 per cent blue agave is painstakingly tested for sugar concentration before being heated. This is then distilled with spring water flowing through a volcano. The tequila is then transferred to American oak barrels where it can rest undisturbed for over three years. During this time, the spirit takes on the deep colour and flavour of the wood. The result is a perfectly balanced tequila with a multitude of flavours, only produced in limited quantities, making each sip special. RRP £150, tequilaenemigo.com

INSIDE S ugar Bea eacch We talk to James Wyndham, Managing Director of Sugar Beach, a world-class resort set in 30 acres of idyllic tropical gardens

65

What are the benefits of your location? Spread across one hundred acres of lush tropical rainforest with spectacular views of the sparkling Caribbean Sea, Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort, rests under the gaze of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Pitons. You cannot find a more picturesque and tranquil location to truly enjoy a slice of Caribbean paradise.

What is the most luxurious suite in the hotel? We have a stunning collection of unique villas, bungalows and residences that create a perfect harmony between nature and modern living to our guests. Choosing one as a favourite would be nearly impossible, but one of my top contenders would be our ‘Luxury Beachfront Bungalows’. Guests can step right out of the bungalows into the soft sand of Sugar Beach and soak in all the magical views and within moments plunge into the warming depths of the Caribbean Sea.

What can you tell us about the history of the hotel? Formerly a working sugar plantation, the property has had a fascinating and long history of owners including Lord Glenconner, famously known for his friendship with Princess Margaret. It was Glenconner who first transformed the land into a resort which was then called ‘Jalousie Plantation Resort’ and it welcomed many Royals and Celebrities through its doors. From then the ownership has changed a handful of times before becoming Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort in 2012.

Could you tell us about the best event the hotel has hosted during your time there? The resort has some of the most iconic event spaces and versatile 66

venues making any occasion truly memorable and special. We have been fortunate enough to host some of the most spectacular weddings and celebrations on property including Matt Damon’s celebrity-filled vow renewal.

How would you describe the hotel’s dining experience? From the finest international cuisine to more casual tropical flavours, guests can choose between nine different restaurant and bars which showcase exceptional culinary offerings. From ‘Bonté’ our beachfront restaurant, meaning ‘good times’ in the local language Creole, to ‘Cane Bar’, a perfect evening spot offering

features about the property taking prime position on the island but what makes the hotel the standout success it is today is down to the passion and dedication from every team member. The aim is to create a guest experience that they will never want to end through our service, accommodation, facilities and amenities.

What packages are you offering for 2023? We have a great mix of offers available to book this year, perfect for family getaways or for those more romantic celebrations for couples. Both our ‘Caribbean Escapes’ and ‘Home Sweet Home’ offer a generous discount off the best available rate and include daily breakfast in an array of accommodations. Our new ‘food for thought’ offer is ideal for the foodies as it includes our all-inclusive Sugar Beach meal plan so you can fully indulge and make the most of our delectable dining experiences. viceroyhotelsandresorts.com

south-east Asian tasting plates and a selection of cocktails to wash it down with, or head to our signature restaurant ‘Saltwood’ to immerse into a menu with some of the finest cuts of beef you can find. Of all the facilities the hotel offers, which is your favourite? The facilities on offer at Sugar Beach are second to none. Utilising our surroundings, my favourites would be our Rainforest Spa with secluded treehouses as the treatment rooms as well as the vast water sport offerings we have on site, including a full PADI dive facility and some of the best diving locations in the world.

What makes a stay at your venue stand out from your competitors? The location simply has to be one of the most unique

– Our Experience – Our trip to Sugar Beach, St Lucia was an unforgettable experience that surpassed all expectations. The lush tropical surroundings, pristine sandy beaches and crystal clear sea water create an idyllic setting for relaxation and rejuvenation. The accommodation of villas and suites are nothing short of exceptional. Our spacious villa featured a private plunge pool and a terrace overlooking the ocean with our private butler who ensured we had everything we needed during our stay. We had the pleasure of dining at Salt Wood Restaurant in the evenings and Bonte Restaurant during the day; both are a must! We also enjoyed a trip to Sugar Beach Spa by Cinq Mondes which is by far the best spa we have experienced. Whether seeking a romantic getaway or a family escape, Sugar Beach offers a truly remarkable destination for anyone seeking paradise in the Caribbean.

T usca uscan n Hidea Hideaw w ay Set in splendid isolation in the heart of the Maremma countryside, Kate Kinsella visited L’Andana, a former Medici villa in Tuscany Location Set in the stunning countryside location of Castiglione Della Pescaia, surrounded by Tuscan vineyards and olive groves sits the captivating L’Anadana estate. Surprisingly and conveniently only a short car or bike ride away from the rolling waves and soft sands of the coast where you can dine on fresh seafood pasta dishes and chilled refreshments whilst gazing into the ocean, every so often removing your sunglasses to take in the mirage worthy ocean views.

Rooms The hotel is home to a total of 61 luxury rooms and suites, located across four different buildings. We viewed most categories during

our stay and I can assure you that whichever you book, you won’t be disappointed. I stayed in a Deluxe room at La Villa, the interiors offer a traditional romantic Italian interior with plenty of space and views of the picturesque Tuscan hills. The rolltop bath was appropriately sunk into each night, accompanied by melting aromatic bath salts, followed by the fluffy bathrobe and slippers in preparation for bed.

Facilities & Experiences As a guest at L’Andana, you would probably need to book at least a month out if you wanted to experience

69

everything this charming property has to offer. There is even a place to park your helicopter if you don’t fancy flying with the masses. My standout experiences are the fabulous spa and soul-soothing treatments, the incredible Michelin star dining experience, horse riding, the guided e-bike tour and the wine tasting, but in all honesty, everything is created and executed with such attention to detail that I feel however you choose to spend your time here, it will never be time wasted.

My Experience What I loved most is how enchanting the estate is, the arrival alone is an experience in itself. It was one of those moments when your mind plays its own cinematic theme tune as if you are starring in an old Italian movie. Cypress and pine trees line up like nature’s butlers to greet you along the most picturesque driveway with the estate as the grand finale. There is also an unexplainable sense of calm that you feel when staying here, any worries you left home with cease to exist and are replaced with a more enjoyable challenge of deciding on what moreish

My Personal Highlights Two experiences stand out to me when reminiscing over my stay at the L’Andana, both took my stay to the next level. The first was the E-Bike tour, if you fancy connecting with the explorer within, book this experience. The clever invention of the E-Bike really is something to

get involved in, especially if you are brave enough to enter the turbo speed setting, you’re guaranteed to feel that wind in your hair. Dressed in our activewear and helmets secured, we started out on our adventure. Thankfully our doting guide kept an eye on us as we failed to keep our eyes on the road ahead on multiple occasions. There is so much beauty to take in but the true ‘wow’ moment was discovering a field of perfectly grown sunflowers, the brightest shades of yellow, so beautiful that they attracted a stunning kaleidoscope of butterflies, dragonflies and bees. Unless you saw it for yourself, you wouldn’t believe its existence. The next was the unforgettable Michelinstarred restaurant, La Trattoria Enrico Bartolini. It really felt like we were in the presence of something truly unique and exciting. The creativity and pure culinary skill that goes into each of the edible creations, inspired by flavours of the sea and locally sourced ingredients of only the highest quality is something to be admired. Individual dishes of perfection all presented in their own artistic brilliance. What I also appreciated was that the service team and chefs made our night so enjoyable, other Michelin-star restaurants can be likened to the atmosphere of a library but La Trattoria understands the importance of making the diners’ evening one to remember by ensuring fun is also included on the menu. andana.it

DRIVE SUPER CAR OR SUPER STAR?

Keeping you up to date with all the latest motoring and technology news WORDS: JAMES FOSSDYKE

Mercedes-AMG’s new GT is bigger and more high-tech than its predecessor, and it still comes with huge V8 heart.

M

ercedes isn’t always the first word to come to mind when you think about supercars, but here is a brand with not-inconsiderable experience in the field. From the old 300 SL, complete with gullwing doors, to the modern Formula 1 cars, the three-pointed star is about more than just luxury. The latest addition to the high-performance Mercedes portfolio, so often distinguished by the AMG logo, is the new GT. Like the old car, it’s a two-door coupe with two occasional rear seats, and it’s here to rival the Porsche 911. But unlike the old car, the new model is bigger on the outside and more high-tech on the inside. Externally, it doesn’t look all that different, but it’s more modern and

74

more aggressive than ever, with slightly increased dimensions. Even so, it’s made to be lightweight, and there are active aerodynamic features designed to minimise drag and aerodynamic lift. Inside, meanwhile, it gets Mercedes’ latest touchscreen technology in a clean, minimalist cabin. But the highlight is the 4.0-litre V8 engine. Or should that be the 4.0-litre V8 engines? Customers can choose between two different GT models, with the basic 55 joined by the more powerful 63 version. Both get all-wheel drive and ninespeed automatic gearboxes, but where the 55 offers 469bhp and a 0-62mph time of 3.9 seconds, while the 63 gets 577bhp and a seven-tenth reduction in 0-62mph time. DROP- HEAD GORGEOUS Once upon a time, coachbuilding was big business. Instead of buying a car, you bought a chassis and an engine, then had a custom-made body bolted to it. Now, Rolls-Royce is bringing that back, showing what it can do with La Rose Noire Droptail. Styled around the Black Baccara rose, and commissioned by customers with strong connections to France and viniculture, the car has a lustrous black-and-red paint job adorning the dramatically styled body with the removable hard roof. The interior, meanwhile, is characterised by the rose-inspired pattern of its marquetry, including more than 1,600 pieces of wood, but the highlight is arguably the Champagne chest with crystal flutes. CRUISE CONTROL The word ‘icon’ is bandied around far too much, but in the case of the Toyota Land Cruiser, it’s deserved. Such is its reputation that the famous Australian proverb tells us: “If you want to go into the outback, take a Land Rover. If you want to get back, take a Land Cruiser.” And this new model promises more of the same talents that made the old Land Cruiser so formidable. It’s stronger and more efficient than before, and now it comes with chunky retro styling inspired by previous iterations of the beast. And of course, Toyota is promising legendary reliability with a warranty of up to 10 years. Toyota Land Cruiser, £TBC, toyota.co.uk

Drive | The CHESHIRE Magazine

While progress is being made, writes James Fossdyke, there’s still a place in the world for the traditional way of doing things

G

enerally speaking, progress is a good thing. Modern society may not be perfect – there’s still a way to go – but we live in a fairer and more egalitarian world than we once inhabited. Medicine has come on leaps and bounds, travel is easier and more affordable than ever, and communication is (largely) better than at any time in history. The same goes with cars. Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, motor vehicles are safer, more comfortable and more efficient than they were 100 years ago. Progress, then, is definitely good. But sometimes it’s nice to go back to basics and revert to an old way of thinking. Especially if you can mix the age-old recipe with a bit of modern-day know-how. That’s exactly what Maserati has done with the Ghibli Trofeo – its answer to the BMW M5 and the Mercedes-AMG E63. In essence, it’s a Ghibli like any other, with sharp styling and a beautiful cabin design, but the basic car’s modern hybrid system is gone, replaced by an old-school V8 with bags of character and an insatiable thirst for unleaded. Not that it’s immediately obvious from the outside. Sure, the Trofeo is a beautiful car, with a low nose, powerful haunches and big alloy wheels, but all that’s true of a common-or-garden Ghibli hybrid. But because the basic Ghibli already looks more dramatic than your average executive saloon car, Maserati has only felt the need to add some subtle tweaks, including four massive exhaust pipes. There’s some red trim, too, but we’ll gloss over that because it makes it look as though the Trofeo’ details were designed by Barry from Billericay. At least you can’t see that stuff from the inside, where the Ghibli ensconces you in Italian luxury and sportiness. Leather upholstery is complemented by lashings of carbon-fibre decorative trim, and there are beautiful analogue gauges with milled aluminium indicator needles. Yes, it’s old-school – that’s no surprise now the Ghibli’s architecture is 10 years old – but luxury never goes out of style, and the Ghibli is a stunning piece of design. That’s not to say that technology doesn’t play a role, though. Over the years, Maserati has evolved the design to include a much more modern touchscreen infotainment system that’s a huge improvement on the original. And while it isn’t quite as slick or as clever as the screen in a BMW M5, it’s clever enough to feel up to date. But the beating heart of the Ghibli Trofeo is not its cabin, but its engine. The standard car makes do with a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine that’s aided by a hybrid system, but the Trofeo ups the ante quite significantly. The hybrid system is eschewed in favour of old-school displacement, with a 3.8-litre V8 that sends a massive 572bhp to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Given the right conditions, it’ll get from 0-62mph in just 4.3 seconds, and if you keep your foot buried in the thick, Italian carpets, it’ll keep accelerating right the way to 203mph. It’s monstrously quick. Of course, such old-school muscle causes some problems if you mistreat it. For one, the big engine guzzles petrol like it’s going out of fashion, which, in fairness, it probably is. But official economy of

Maserati Ghibli Trofeo Price as tested: £121,505 Engine: 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol Gearbox: Eight-speed automatic 0-62mph: 4.3 seconds Top speed: 203mph Power: 572bhp

just over 20mpg equates to about 17mpg if you start getting bolshie with the throttle pedal. And though doing that can result in effortlessly savage performance, it can cause other issues. On a wet road, stamping on the accelerator will cause the back wheels to spin, and if you do that in the middle of a corner, a slide is the likely result. Not something we recommend on the public road, kids. Especially as controlling that slide isn’t always easy – the Ghibli doesn’t have the most precise steering – but it’s manageable if you’re expecting it, and getting it right will at least make you feel like a driving god. Getting it wrong will have expensive consequences. The problem is, the Ghibli’s thunderous engine encourages such yobbish behaviour with a vocal range that makes Tom Jones sound like Stuart Little. The V8 engine throbs away like an American muscle car, and when you accelerate its growl turns into an aristocratic bellow, as though the Ghibli is mildly irritated that it has been woken from its slumber. The slight reluctance, combined with immense power, gives the Ghibli a likeably lazy character. It’s the fourwheeled equivalent of the moderately bright but slightly roguish schoolboy who wants to put in the minimum effort

78

to achieve a result that’s just about good enough. There’s always a sense that there’s slightly more in the tank. Except, of course, there isn’t because you’ll be lucky to top 20mpg. Your best bet, therefore, is to use the Trofeo as a long distance cruiser, allowing the engine to bubble away at relatively low revolutions, waiting for the moment when it’ll be called upon to unleash its fury and overtake a slow-moving Peugeot. And that’s where the Ghibli is at its best. Other saloons might be better on your favourite country road or at a race track, but if you want to cross a continent in an effortless and beautiful blaze of thunder, it goes straight to the top of the class. Yes, the ride is a bit firm around town – that’s a product of wide, low-profile tyres on enormous rims – and that makes it difficult to recommend for everyday use, but once it’s on the German motorway network, it’ll be more or less unstoppable. There are few more enticing, more exciting or more beautiful ways to eat the miles in a four-door saloon. So while the Ghibli Trofeo is a long way from perfect, and the BMW M5 Competition is a measurably more capable all-rounder, the Maserati manages to worm its way under your skin. It might not be ideal in every way, but when you’re spending £120,000 on a luxury product, what matters is not really how good it is, but how it makes you feel. After all, if we all bought cars on the basis of what we need, Volvo would not have announced plans to stop selling estate cars in the UK. No, a car that tugs at your heartstrings is exactly what’s needed in this part of the market, and that, inexplicably, is exactly what the Ghibli can do like few other cars. Looks like the old ways still have their place in the world.

My L ife i n Pr Pro o pe perr ty DANIEL LEE, MANAGING DIRECTOR OF DISTINCTIVE LIVING BY DOUGLAS BUTLER Douglas Butler has been a wellknown and well-respected estate agent in Chester since 2019. Could you talk us through the newly launched Distinctive Living which offers a more exclusive service? Douglas Butler launched in June 2019 and primarily focuses on selling stylish first-time buyer homes, investment properties, doer-uppers and family homes. Distinctive Living aims to focus on selling more unique properties and homes of distinction across Chester and Cheshire. Typically, the minimum value is around £600,000 and they are iconic and unique homes whereby you wouldn’t find anything similar. At Distinctive Living we only take on a maximum of 10 properties at any one time, which is quite rare for an estate agent. Our goal is to deliver an exceptional service to clients, and I feel that by limiting our portfolio to a maximum of 10 homes at any one time enables us to do just that. Talk us through your strategy of launching new properties to market. It can take us a minimum of 14 days to bring a property to the market. I conduct all the valuations for Distinctive Living personally and once the client agrees to launch their

home to the market with us, we then arrange a second appointment where my colleague Hannah visits the property with me to look at how we can style and stage the property ready for the photoshoot. We then arrange for Hannah to attend the property on the day of the shoot, to stage it and dress it. Then our photographer spends a couple of hours capturing some great images that include lifestyle shots of the local area that the home sits in. We also hire a videographer to produce a 2-3 minute video pointing out all the features the home has to offer. These videos are beautifully edited together, including the use of drone shots to really make the video stand out. Once we’ve done the pictures and the video, we employ a copywriter who will interview our client to find out more about their home and create a bespoke 20 plus page luxury brochure. Whilst all this is happening in the background, we contact our priority buyer database informing them of the new listing. Following that, we then advertise the property and launch it across our social media sites, before finally launching it online including Rightmove etc. All clients are thoroughly vetted prior to any viewings to avoid time wasters, and I conduct the viewings, negotiate the offers and see the property through to completion. We feel this is a really good selling point, having just one contact from the beginning right the way through to completion.

Could you offer some insight into up-and-coming areas in Cheshire? Hoole in Chester is a suburb just east of the city and has a thriving community of great independent shops, eateries and much more. It’s hugely popular amongst young professionals and families and seems to be growing in popularity year on year. Further afield there is the likes of Altrincham which I believe is becoming hugely popular due to its thriving food and drink scene, good schools and close proximity to Manchester. What makes the perfect home for you? I love homes where the owners have been really creative, innovative, bold and brave with colours, design and styles. It’s really nice to go into a property and see interiors that you wouldn’t find anywhere else. I love that blend of character meets contemporary living. This time of the year log burners, open fires and Aga cookers are hugely popular amongst buyers and can photograph really well when trying to set the scene. distinctivelivingchester.co.uk

5 Minutes with NICK WILLIAMS, CEO OF OLYMPIAN GARDEN BUILDING S

How important is your location to you and the fact the business is family-run? How has the team developed over the years? Being a family-run business is not just a part of who we are; it’s essential to our identity. Our commitment to family values has translated into our level of customer service, which has always been a priority. We strive never to let anyone down because it matters to us personally. I believe our reputation has been built on this foundation, and it’s one of the reasons we’ve been able to achieve the level of success we have. Customer feedback consistently highlights that our passion for our products and service shines through in everything we do. Our team has grown and evolved over the years. Recently, my son has joined us for his apprenticeship, and we’re dedicated to ensuring he learns from all elements and challenges of the business, carrying forward our legacy. Our leadership team includes my parents, Barry and Julie, who founded the company. We’re also fortunate to have my sister, Hannah, serving as our COO, and my brotherin-law, Ian, who leads as our Director of Product & Installation. All of whom have played vital roles in our journey. We’ve also welcomed the recent additions of key leaders within the company who are childhood friends and share our passion and goals,

88

further strengthening our team. Our location in the heart of Cheshire is essential for our operations. We focus our sales within a 40-mile radius of our factory and showroom, allowing us to serve our customers easily. We’ve been in the same premises for 30 years, making it a home we’re proud of.

What recent successes have you had? One of our most recent successes was our inclusion as exhibitors at the RHS Tatton Flower Show 2023. In our very first year, we achieved a prestigious RHS 5* award for our stand. An accomplishment that is testament to the great teamwork and dedication within our organisation. We received overwhelmingly positive feedback from show attendees, and fellow exhibitors. Additionally, earlier this year, we received the Best Specialist Supplier award at the 2023 Grafters Awards, reinforcing our commitment to excellence.

Could you share insights into recent trends in outdoor building purchases and design preferences, and share what you think is driving these changes? Over the past five years, we’ve witnessed a significant shift in the way people approach the purchase of outdoor buildings and their design preferences. Five years ago, the emphasis was often on functionality when it came to outdoor spaces. However, today, we’ve observed a notable shift towards creating more usable and versatile gardens. People are investing in their outdoor areas like never before. Another key driver in this shift is increased house prices, which have deterred many from moving houses. As a result, homeowners are increasingly focusing on optimising their existing outdoor spaces, transforming them into functional and enjoyable areas. We’ve also observed a significant shift in people’s willingness to invest in premium outdoor products, prompting them to seek expert guidance to make well-informed decisions. Consulting with trusted local experts has become a priority for many. We’ve gained the reputation and trust as that local expert, catering to the evolving needs of customers seeking bespoke outdoor solutions designed that are built to last. olympiangardenbuildings.co.uk

Q&A

with

HOLLY LAMONT,

FOUNDER OF HOLLA DESIGN How would you describe yourself ? Founder and Interior Designer at Holla Design with a keen eye for colourful style both in fashion and interiors. Tell us a bit more about you... Originally from Cheshire, I moved down to London after university and began my career in marketing. It wasn’t long before my creative energy took over and I embarked on a career in interior design, studying at KLC and going on to work at two of London’s top interior design studios. I set up Holla Design back in 2021, tying it in with a move back to Cheshire with my husband after having lived in London for 10 years. I’ve always wanted to run my own business and felt that there was a gap in the market in Cheshire for someone with a bold and fun approach to interior design - I use a lot of colour, pattern and texture in my designs! Who are your greatest influences? My style is pretty modern but I love to incorporate vintage finds to create an eclectic yet laid back look. I’m always drawn to vibrant colours, gorgeous patterns and textures when designing and therefore often inspired by designers such as Beata Heuman, Rita Konig, Suzy Hoodless and Suzie Atkinson who always produce unique and effortlessly stunning creations. Where do you get ideas/inspiration for new designs? My monthly subscriptions to House and Garden, Elle Decoration and World of Interiors keep me up to date on the latest trends and then, of course, Instagram and

Pinterest are great day-to-day sources. I always try to head down to London when the design shows are on to see the latest collections and what’s going on in the industry. Walk me through your design process. Where do you start? I offer three services; a Bespoke Design Service which is the full turnkey service and two light touch services- an ‘Interior Refresh’ and ‘Inspiration Consultation’. Our full turnkey Bespoke Design Service involves an initial consultation to ascertain your design requirements, followed by a site meeting. Once the contract has been signed the design process begins with the concept which involves the creation of moodboards and layouts. Following sign-off on the concept we will then develop the design and bring the project to life with FF&E, finishes, detailed drawings and 3D visuals. After this, we move into the procurement phase before heading onto site and the construction phase. Throughout all of this, we will coordinate the project from start to finish so you have peace of mind that the project is being looked after to the highest standard. What is your favourite project to date? It has to be our Bajan Beach House project, a stunning 6 bedroom house on the West Coast of Barbados. The design was all about laidback living with an injection of fun for a family of six so we opted for a neutral base (think gorgeous linens and timbers) and added some personality with colourful soft furnishings and unusual furniture pieces. What are you working on at the moment? I’ve got a fun project on in Abersoch, North Wales - right on the front looking out to sea as well as a couple back in here in Cheshire, plus two ‘Interior Refresh’ projects for clients here and in London. I’ve also just had an exciting enquiry come in for something unusual so watch this space! www.holladesign.co.uk 91

W hy Choos hoosiing the Right Gl ass forr your Home fo is I mp mpo ortant When it comes to choosing the right windows for your home, it’s paramount to remember that how they perform is just as important as how they look

O

ver the years there’s been some incredible developments in glass technology which means homeowners have the opportunity to select the most suitable glazing for the windows in their property. In fact, depending on the chosen window supplier, Brits can now specify windows with glass that has been tailored to meet the specific requirements of each room within their home. Whilst the wide range of glazing options is great news for some people, knowing where to start can be a bit overwhelming for others. To help, window and door specialists Everest have explored some of the common problems high performing glass can help to combat. Anthony Threlfall, Head of Marketing at Everest, said: “It is vital homeowners understand the fundamental role that glazing plays to create a more comfortable living space. “Modern glass now has the ability to reflect heat in and out of a home, reduce outside noise, increase security, safety and privacy and protect against UV sun damage. “What’s more every window in each room of the property can be fully customised depending on the requirements of each space, creating optimal comfort and enjoyment throughout a home.”

92

Window glass is fundamental

Even though it’s important to understand the fundamental role glass plays and how it can directly impact the temperature and comfort levels in their living spaces, there are other key components of a window that can directly affect how it performs. “At Everest we understand that when it comes to manufacturing a high quality window, a winning combination is needed to get the best results for homeowners across the UK,” adds Anthony. “We believe the type of glass is the number one priority but of course the only way to guarantee that the window can deliver optimum comfort all year long is if it’s made using other high performing components.

Homes and Interiors

“We use a unique window system at Everest combining a five chamber uPVC profile available in a wide choice of colours, an expansive range of glass options, a PAS24 locking mechanism and range of attractive furniture which means we can offer a great performing window which achieves fantastic results time and time again.”

The results of high-performing glazing

With years of experience supplying windows and doors across the country, the team at Everest has a clear understanding of the most common problems homeowners with the wrong glazing face. To help, the team of experts has specially designed a fantastic range of high-performing glass, as Anthony explains. “Our high performing glass ranges have been uniquely manufactured using specialist glazing options to benefit homeowners. “We have the Ultimate range, Energy Saver range and Noise reducing range and each one has been carefully crafted to deliver outstanding results to guarantee a comfortable home no matter the weather.” Manufactured using an innovative type of solar reduction glass, the Ultimate range is the perfect solution for homeowners looking for an insulating window which can successfully reduce the amount of solar energy that passes through a window. The Energy Saver range however, as its name suggests, is ideal for those wanting a highly energy efficient window that can successfully let in and retain the sun’s heat. Thanks to the Low-E glass, homes will stay warmer for longer, helping to reduce monthly heating bills. Finally, the Noise Reducing range is fantastic for homes positioned next to airports, railway lines and in areas with high levels of traffic. Designed to reduce

outside noise by up to 40 decibels, this range is a great solution for homeowners looking to create a serene living environment without compromising on thermal performance. Plus, all ranges can be security laminated which is an additional coating on the glass, holding it together in the event it is smashed significantly impeding intruder entry.

Energy efficient windows in high demand

A recent investigation from Everest found that more than half (51%) of homeowners want to replace their windows to improve the overall energy efficiency of their home. “It’s fantastic to see that more and more people are looking to use more energy efficient building products in their home,” adds Anthony. “By installing energy efficient windows, homeowners will not only see a difference in the temperature throughout their property, but they could also see some changes to their monthly heating bills. “With any one of our new high performance glazing options, people are guaranteed to not only have a window which helps to improve a home’s energy efficiency but looks great and meets the needs of the rooms in the property, as well as being extra secure.” To find out more information about the Everest Ultimate range, Energy Saver range or Noise Reducing range to see if one of these glazing options can optimise your home and living spaces, visit everest.co.uk/glass

The Herschel Pendant, a sleek and captivating triple luminaire, stands as a beacon of astronomical beauty. Complementing its pendant counterpart is the Herschel Wall Light, where pared-back detailing allows the intrinsic allure of alabaster shades to take centre stage. This series embodies a blend of celestial wonder and design sophistication that transcends time.

#2 - Ice Pendants

The ‘Ice Pendant’ serves as a captivating extension of the timeless Ice Cluster Chandelier, seamlessly blending elegance with modern aesthetics.

Just like its chandelier counterpart, the Ice Pendant features a clustered arrangement that exudes a sense of luxury and sophistication. With its dazzling crystal-like elements and radiant illumination, the Ice Pendant creates an enchanting focal point in any space, casting a mesmerizing play of light and shadow.
