EDITOR’S NOTE

Summer is quickly approaching and before we know it, we will be fully surrounded by sunshine,

swimming pools, popsicles, backyard BBQs and even some fireworks. Summer is truly the time where kids get to be kids and when many lasting memories are made. We’ve started working on our bucket list for the next few months and plan to spend as much time outside adventuring + just spending quality time together as a family. Everything about Summer is just plain old fun and always one of our favorite issues to work on. When you get to shoot on the beach or in a tropical location it’s hard to call it work. In this issue we are sharing our favorite essentials for little peanuts and mamas this season, summer fashion and of course lots and lots of swimmers + sunnies! My personal favorite would have to be the South Africa travel feature that gives us all an inspiring glimpse into this incredibly beautiful world + how rewarding it is to share in amazing experiences with our children. Here’s to longer days, summer nights + lots and lots of sun kissed babes running free!

We are the baskes, a German family of four who loves to travel, explore the beauty of nature and to expand our culinary knowledge together with our two daughters, who are now 3 years and 15 months old. In the beginning of 2016 we traveled through South Africa for 2 months and our great goal - except from soaking up all the beauty of nature - was to have more time together as a family, to really live in the moment and enjoy the little things. We wanted to really slow down - something that is easily said but not always realistic in every day life. We planned this trip by ourselves and decided where we wanted to go and what we wanted to see, with no time schedule. It was perfect because we were able to go where the weather took us! We started our adventure in Jobrug which is the second largest city in Africa. The flight was good, there was no jet leg and we were just so looking forward to spending the first two weeks in a safari camper. A true adventure! We drove down

south to the Drakensberg Mountains and up through the Sani Pass. This winding trail is the only vehicle route over the Drakensberg escarpment and into the Kingdom of Lesotho. The girls had so much fun driving up the steep route, crossed by little rivers and giant waterfalls. The majestic mountains and impressive coast lines were so breathtaking and amazing and we simply loved having nature surrounding us while we camped and enjoyed the art of slow living. During this time we realized again how much our girls learned just by being in the nature, trusting in their natural curiosity and creativity. We as parents made a decision when back in Germany, we want to finally fulfill a lifetime dream of ours to move by the mountains. Our time in South Africa literally changed our lives. TIP: Check out the 'Coast to Coast' guide to find information about good campsites all over South Africa.

There are so many beautiful beaches in South Africa. Sometimes very long ones, where you can not see the end, sometimes little ones, surrounded by rocks and sometimes on the foot of magnificent cliffs. The views are amazing! When we were there the water was mostly too cold to swim in so we had fun building little sand holes and putting water inside like a little pool. It worked out perfectly for the girls and they were happy to play with 'their water'.

Our favorite beaches around cape town to visit: - Noordhoek "Long Beach" - Misty Cliffs and the Scarborough Beach - Windmill Beach, Simon's Town

We stayed at Babylonstoren, one of the oldest Cape Dutch farms with the most beautiful cottage accommodations ever. We where able to spend 3 days in this simply amazing place with beautiful gardens and vineyards. It was like a Alice in Wonderland kind of feeling when walking through the gardens with all the fruits and veggies, flowers of every kind and a giant cactus field. The restaurant 'Babel' offers seasonal food from their very own garden. If you are planning a trip to South Africa I would say this is a must!

TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOU I'm 30 years old, living in Sweden together with my husband (also partner in crime). We have two sons (Sam 2 years old and Micha 4 months) and two furry cats. We currently live in a house from the 60’s. We as a family spend a lot of time outside and love to spend as much time as possible with family and friends.

to create a job that I could have the family in the center and the job around it, not the other way around. Basically I wanted to be able to pick my own working hours. So with my three experiences, being creative, my skills as a project leader and Sam as an inspiration I started to do the storage bag solutions.

WHAT FIRST INSPIRED YOU TO CREATE

WHAT INSPIRES YOUR DESIG NS?

TELLKIDDO?

It’s pretty simple actually. Our kiddos are my inspiration. Often when I read for them I multi task and develop Tellkiddo at the same time.

I have always painted, since I was a little child I have created birthday cards, small gift decorations etc. So when Sam was born I also found some new time to start painting again. During this time I realized I did not want to go back to my ordinary work as a project leader at a media agency, I wanted

WHAT IS ONE OF YOUR FAVORITE PARTS ABOUT YOUR JOB? All the interesting people I get the opportunity to meet. There is so many creative, interesting and fun people in the world. Tellkiddo only has one rule, we only work with creative, honest and positive people. And that i so much fun!

HOW DO YOU BALANCE WORK LIFE AND FAMILY LIFE? For me its very easy, as I mentioned earlier, it’s important to me not to have a stressful job with ďŹ xed hours. When I realized how much time I wanted to be with our kids I had to structure the day. For me its much easier to pick them up from kindergarten earlier and play with them the whole afternoon and then put them to bed and start work. People do think I never sleep but I do, I maximize the hours in a day and when I go to bed I put away my phone (that little thing can eat time) and I sleep. I have created a job where I can decide when I want to work. And of course I might have to take a important call when I'm with the kiddos but thats something I try to avoid.

AFTER A LONG WEEK WHAT DO YOU

WHAT QUOTE BEST DESCRIBES YOU + WHAT YOU

LIKE TO DO TO UNWIND?

LIVE BY?

Ooooh I never unwind haha, as an entrepreneur I feel good having stuff to do all the time. If I don’t have anything on the agenda I feel bad. But on a Friday evening I love to have dinner with friends and family enjoying good conversation + eating homemade food.

Believe in what your heart tells you. If something feels bad don’t do it, always be true to yourself... that will build a long term YOU.

WHAT DO YOU + YOUR FAMILY LIKE TO DO TOG ETHER? We love the summer and the sun, when we can be together outside on a blanket listing to the radio or reading a book, then we are feeling blessed.

WHAT ADVICE CAN YOU G IVE TO OTHER WOMEN + MOTHERS? Just believe in yourself. You are the best mother to your child. Learn how to filter information and only pick whats best for your family.

MID-CENTURY DESERT NURSERY DESIG N BY ALEXANDRA EVJEN + OILO STUDIO The term Mid-Century Modern broadly describes architecture, furniture, and graphic design from the middle of the 20th century. This iconic retro style has really made a comeback in the interior design world with a little twist. We are seeing a new take on this reoccurring design trend that is even making it’s way into nursery + kid spaces. You can get this look by incorporating 20th century inspired furniture pieces paired with touches of new textures and patterns like kilim rugs, woven baskets and of course plenty of desert plants. This new look is a perfect blend of modern + boho that gives a more organic modern vibe to this design era.

We are loving this African inspired nursery with touches of market baskets, decorative antlers and mud cloth accessories. Bògòlanfini or bogolan (mud cloth) is a handmade Malian cotton fabric traditionally dyed with fermented mud. This loomed cloth is a popular fabric + pattern that is being exported worldwide for use in fashion, fine art and interior design.
