KATHRYN ROBERTS & SEAN LAKEMAN IN CONCERT BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards Best Duo winners 2013 and 2016. Long established as one of the UK folk scene's most rewardingly enduring partnerships, Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman are 'songwriters par excellence' (fRoots Magazine), their music tuneful, intelligent and soulful. Here, Kathryn's powerful voice is matched against Sean's driving guitar on a set of impressive modern folk songs and heartfelt traditional numbers, switching from thoughtful ballads to stomping acoustic rock. Impressive and entertaining. Ages: 7+
BOWJANGLES EXCALIBOW This hyperactive all-singing, all-strumming, all-dancing, all-comedy-cabaret-varietytheatrical string quartet explores the mystical, mythical world of fairy-tales, folklore and legends. Superb classical musicians with a remarkable gift for groan-worthy laughs and physical comedy, here they swashbuckle their way through musical sketches of monsters, ancient gods, historical figures and fantasy characters, all whilst playing strings flawlessly. LIZ HART MUMMY MONSTER Frank, funny and ferocious, this intimate one-woman theatre show shares the pressures and high anxieties of parenting small children, and the 'bad stuff' that tips parents over the edge. Full of truth, charm, wonder and invention, acted with great finesse, and laced with joyous laughter, beautiful imagery, striking physicality and superb original music, this is an engrossing and accessible drama. Ages: 13+
TANGRAM THEATRE THE ELEMENT IN THE ROOM... A clever, heartfelt and highspirited science-theatre show about pioneering, Nobel prizewinning scientist Marie Curie, from the awardwinning John Hinton (not actually a scientist). THE FROE IN CONCERT
Great music by a very special acoustic trio that celebrates the Welsh folk tradition; a joyful brew of breath-taking airs, eminently danceable Celtic jigs and delightful traditional song.
With sweet vocals soaring over shimmering strings, this dauntingly good quartet weaves together folk roots and classical influences to realise music that is as imaginative as it is beautiful. Drawing together musicians from Ashley Hutching's Rainbow Chasers and The Old Dance School to spine-tingling effect, and with a diverse set of old songs and originals, this is an intimate and mesmerising evening of folk music.
‘Quietly reflective gems… uptempo dance pieces.’ Sunday Times
‘Named after the Welsh name for melody, this band of acoustic wizards produce one heck of a rollicking blast of foot stomping Celtic glory… an intoxicating blend of beautiful music that does wonders for the wider appreciation of traditional Welsh music.’ Acoustic Magazine

RED EARTH THEATRE MIRROR MIRROR
GARLIC THEATRE LITTLE RED ROBIN HOOD
NOBLE JACKS IN CONCERT
A special company with a stellar reputation for touring deaf inclusive work for small children, Red Earth here brings real joie de vivre to a gloriously mischievous new version of the age-old tale of Snow White. Played with enormous energy, great good humour and loads of visual flair, and with the clever use of inventive props, puppets, costumes and choreography, this delightful show sparks the imagination of adults and children alike.
'What big eyes you have… sheriff… sorry …grandma.'
This rip-roaring alt-folk band brings a roof raising energy to its live shows, imbuing its heartfelt, anthemic songs with feelgood folky footstompin' rhythms and vivid lyricism. Exhilarating to hear.
‘Stunning… this unique take on a classic will keep children compelled.’ The Stage Ages: 5+ British Sign Language (BSL) integrated. Captioned performance (CAP). Part of the Live & Local Launchpad CYP programme (firing the imagination of children and young people). Red Earth Theatre is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
With great charm, enormous wit and a good deal of slapstick glove puppet inventiveness, two familiar tales are interwoven in a fast and funny show for family audiences. A brave Robin Hood goes on a quest to find the missing Little Red Riding Hood, helped by a kind bunny rabbit and hindered by a whacky old wolf who looks more than a little like the Sheriff of Nottingham. Truly funny and captivating, Little Red Robin Hood is rather marvellous.
‘I loved the play. I want to be the wolf because I am always very, very hungry.’ Tom (6) Ages: 3-8 Part of the Live & Local Launchpad CYP programme (firing the imagination of children and young people).

GONZO MOOSE THE THING THAT CAME FROM OVER THERE! This critically acclaimed comedy-theatre trio delivers a crazy, enormously inventive and devilishly funny 1950's horror movie spoof. As Scott and Amundsen begin their 1912 race to the South Pole, the hapless explorer Captain Reginald Cranston Scottt investigates a crashed meteor, unaware of the ancient evil that awaits him. A night of shocks, blood-curdling terror, hilariously gruesome deaths and glorious, unadulterated, spine tingling silliness. ★★★★

THE FB POCKET ORCHESTRA IN CONCERT A richly enjoyable night of hot jazz, blues, ragtime and popular dances that hint at jazz age 1920s and swing era 1930s; New Orleans, tea dances, Paris Cafés, and sophisticated, smoky nightclubs. Three superbly talented musicians splice quality crooning, a bewildering variety of instruments, a delightful period charm, and a flirtatious twinkle in the eye (on the more risqué material) into a laid-back acoustic treat.
‘Atmospheric, yet vibrant, this will make you wish you had been born some 100 years ago. The style, glamour and ‘fabulousness’ of this era is captured beautifully.’ Jazz FM
THE SCHMOOZENBERGS IN CONCERT This energetic and classy gypsy jazz and swing quartet conjures the heart-warming, hip-swinging sound of 1930s Paris. With loving tributes to the pioneers of the genre, the great gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt and the French violin virtuoso Stéphane Grappelli, joyous treatments of Duke Ellington, Fats Waller and George Gershwin, and fine introductions to the roots and history of the style, this is a rollicking good night out to put a smile on everyone's faces. C'est magnifique!

SON YAMBU IN CONCERT
Alma brings together the vibrant sound of two of the finest fiddlers on the English folk scene, the award winning John Dipper and Emily Askew, with the sensitive driving guitar of Adrian Lever. Exploring the rich diversity of the English, European and Asian fiddle traditions, this distinctive and magnificent instrumental virtuosity is a joy to listen to.
In this uplifting evening of pure country gold, husband-andwife team Michael Weston King and Lou Dalgleish revitalize the country duet – a heavenly set of original ballads that brilliantly evoke the spirit of June Cater/Johnny Cash and George Jones/Tammy Wynette.
A group of some of the finest young musical talents Britain has to offer, Old Hat Jazz Band brings huge amounts of style and panache to a treasure trove of quintessential 1920s and '30s jazz classics and 'irresistibly catchy ' (All About Jazz) original tunes. Old jazz remade with real verve.
All spicy rhythms, tight horns and vivacious stage presence, this intoxicating acoustic septet of new generation Cuban musicians feed the Latin soul with their red hot, truly sensational tropical Son. Straight from the streets of Santiago De Cuba, this is the irresistible, feel-good fusion of Spanish and African rhythms that gave rise to salsa – que suena la banda!

A powerful and moving tribute to commemorate the centenary of the armistice of 1918.

JOHN HINTON ENSONGLOPEDIA OF SCIENCE
SHEESHAM AND LOTUS & ‘SON IN CONCERT
THE OXFORD CONCERT PARTY IN CONCERT
A remarkably inventive, fun-filled one-man musicalcomedy-science family show from the top-drawer storyteller John Hinton (not actually a scientist). 26 silly science-songs to delight the inquisitive mind, one for every letter of the alphabet. Expect atoms, Big Bangs and cells. Expect X-rays, Y-chromosomes and zoology aplenty. Expect the unexpected. And expect it to rhyme. If you think that science is boring, think again: an absolute joy.
Using a host of vintage instruments, this show-stopping Canadian trio serves up riotous, high stepping, sepiatinted old-timey string-band music with roots in the vaudeville and juke joints of the American South. Oozing authenticity and dynamism this is hugely entertaining, and all in all a lovely, must-see treat. Truly they are the new kings of old-time.
Six lively, entertaining and mould-breaking musicians take 300 years of music from around the world (and from Baroque to tango) and infuse it with offbeat humour, passion and pathos. With its rich and vibrant sounds this is an unforgettable show.

THE FOUNDRY GROUP THE MINISTRY OF BISCUITS
'Macy Gray meets Nick Drake' (The Observer). Much championed by guitarist John Etheridge, singersongwriter Kit Holmes is a rising star of the acoustic music scene, her trademark sultry vocals and virtuoso guitar playing having wowed audiences across the UK. Here, Kit is joined by guitarist Al Greenwood for an enthralling, infectious performance of her bluesdriven roots (with a soul sensibility). Full of warmth and joie de vivre, and mixing dazzling songs with delightful instrumentals, this is an absolute delight.
London, 1948, and The Ministry of Biscuits casts its sinister shadow over every tea-time and elevenses in the land, prohibiting fancy biscuits everywhere and sparking confectionery rebellion. Drawing inspiration from 40's British Light Music, Orwell's dystopian classic 1984 and the great, quintessentially British, Ealing comedy capers, this satirical musical fantasy – co-written by Philip Reeve, the hugely popular, award-winning children's author of Mortal Engines, and featuring David Mounfield (Mel Giedroyc's costar on the BBC Radio 4 sketch show Rum Bunch) – is an absolutely ripping wheeze.
The Guardian ★★★★★
Three brilliant fiddle players bring the rich and distinctive folk traditions of their native Norway, Sweden and Shetland alive in a unique and invigorating collaboration. Interspersing outstanding musicianship with some first class craic, this is a shimmering display of endlessly varied, powerful and beautiful music. Pure fiddle doesn't get much better than this.
‘Gorgeous.’ The Scotsman
‘Haunting… brilliant… mesmerising.’
‘A tophole musical comedy... a highly entertaining, clever show, packed with neat one liners... a gem.’
‘One of the few female virtuoso acoustic guitarists.’

A fantastic collaboration of three respected solo singersongwriters: Kate Bramley (Jez Lowe & the Bad Pennies), Simon Haworth, and the honey-voiced Edwina Hayes, the latter numbering Michael Parkinson and Nanci Griffith among her fans. Performing contemporary British folk with a nod to Nashville, this is an evening of beautifully written songs, from toe tapping folk rockabilly to haunting ballads; of the road well-travelled, of heartache, and of single malts.

SHORTT & SMART IN CONCERT
An epic journey in a stationary minibus; a quietly charming, compellingly intimate, gently humourous, sometimes touchingly sad, solo storytelling show for 14 audience members at a time. Meditating on family history, acts of remembrance, and of the longest bus journey in Britain, to Cape Wrath, the most north-westerly point of Scotland, this is a totally involving little one-off immersive experience.
Two of the UK's most innovative and creative cellists join forces to present a remarkable double-bill of comedy and music. Cello/accordion duo Shirley Smart – one of the leading cello improvisers in the UK – and Karen Street take the listener on an 'immaculately played' (fRoots Magazine) journey through jazz, classical and world music. Kate Shortt – a 'Jewish Victoria Wood' (Brighton Magazine) – entertains and surprises with her abstract humour and off-beat musical-comedy songs.
