KENILWORTH ARTS FESTIVAL 2017 FIESTA Live music and theatre, interactive activities, engaging art installations, delicious food and drink... there's a huge range of things to do, see and hear as part of the Kenilworth Arts Festival's Fiesta – a free, all-ages, open-air event set in the beautiful historical landscape of Abbey Fields in the heart of Kenilworth. For the first time Live & Local curates the live theatre area, packed with entertaining, high-energy, family-friendly shows by new and emerging outdoor artists, and headlined by the Marie Celestial, a vintage, mechanical, 'living' spaceship stuffed full of cosmic curiosities and space critters. Departed from an unknown origin in outer space, and crash-landed on earth, the Marie Celestial has seen untold wonders and unimaginable danger. Mysteriously abandoned (and lonely), the ship roams on gigantic bird legs – accompanied by a robotic stegosaurus – in search of a new family of passengers. Inspired by Jules Verne, and incorporating live aerial circus, acrobatics, dance, theatre and music, this is a truly inclusive, exciting, and creative experience for children and adults alike. Ages: all Part of the Live & Local Outdoor Arts programme (inspirational performances without walls). Produced in association with the Live & Local DART scheme (developing artists for rural touring).
CAT WEATHERILL & NAOMI PAUL TRUTH & TRUFFLES
NEW PERSPECTIVES THEATRE HARVEST
A fabulous two-header delivered by wonderfully gifted performers, the compelling and masterful storyteller Cat Weatherill and the satirical and hilarious deadpan comic Naomi Paul. Irresistibly blending humour and heart, this is a captivating and beautifully crafted show for adults, of stories, comedy songs and musings about being a grown up, and the little indulgencies that make life worth living (chocolate).
A compelling and colourful Yorkshire farming saga, this darkly entertaining comedy tells the story of one family's tireless fight for survival in a changing agricultural landscape, over two world wars, generations of births, deaths and marriages, and a lifetime of farming.
‘A magical performer… a masterclass in enchantment… vivid storyteller's gifts.’ The Times (on Cat Weatherill)

MY DARLING CLEMENTINE IN CONCERT
CAT WEATHERILL TELL ME ON A SUNDAY WORKSHOP/PERFORMANCE
In this uplifting evening of pure country gold, husband-and-wife team Michael Weston King and Lou Dalgleish revitalize the country duet – a heavenly set of original ballads that brilliantly evoke the spirit of June Cater/Johnny Cash and George Jones/Tammy Wynette.
We know you have a story in you. Unleash it. Conjure a memory, recent or ancient, good or bad. Tell it to yourself, hone it, cut it, embellish it. Get on stage and tell it.
With spellbinding voices mixed with a 50's-60's golden era styling and just a little knowing tongue in cheek, this is terrific countrified thrills, every song sounding like a forgotten Nashville classic.
‘Lou has the most stunning voice. I LOVE it.’ Graham Norton, BBC Radio 2 ★★★★★ Maverick Magazine ★★★★ The Sun ★★★★ The Guardian ★★★★ Daily Express
When ordinary people stand up and tell true tales about their lives, the honesty, humour, warmth, vulnerability and sadness in those stories makes a human connection unlike any other art form. Tell Me On A Sunday champions the craft of this true-life storytelling, drawing people together through the telling of tales. Cat Weatherill, 'one of our great storytellers' (Michael Morpurgo, War Horse author), leads a fun and unpretentious personal storytelling workshop for anyone tempted by the idea of telling a true-tale but who does not know where to begin, looking at how to find your story, shape it, and present it. Cat then curates an amazing evening which sees a special guest teller and workshop participants share their brilliant true-tales – weird, wonderful, poignant, inspiring – straight from the heart, live on stage. A truly empowering experience. Workshop places £20; performance is Pay What You Can.

GARLIC THEATRE JACK AND THE BEANS TALK
KATE BRAMLEY & THE MILE ROSES WHISKY FIRESIDE (AND OTHER SONGS FROM THE ROAD)
TRAVELLING BY TUBA FAREWELL TOUR
A fantastic collaboration of three respected solo singer-songwriters: Kate Bramley (Jez Lowe & the Bad Pennies), Simon Haworth, and the honey-voiced Edwina Hayes, the latter numbering Michael Parkinson and Nanci Griffith among her fans.
This multi-instrument extravaganza by one of the UK's most successful classical music duos mixes wonderful musicianship, sheer silliness and cheeky audience rapport in a set packed full of quirky musical gems ranging from classical to jazz. Exhilarating and utterly irresistible.
Performing contemporary British folk with a nod to Nashville, this is an evening of beautifully written songs, from toe tapping folk rockabilly to haunting ballads; of the road well-travelled, of heartache, and of single malts.
‘Impressive.’ Daily Telegraph
‘The sweetest voice in England... so gifted and full of song.’
‘Experts who really get their enjoyment of music across.’ The Times
Nanci Griffith (on Edwina Hayes)
‘Something special.’ Ages: 10+ Sun 15 Oct 7.30pm
Classical Music Magazine
A lovely retelling of the classic English fairy tale – of a cow to sell, a helpful stranger, magic beans, ginormous beanstalk, child-eating giant, beautiful princess, adventure, gold, and happily ever after – by one of England's leading puppet companies. With a show so full of beans, this must surely be the best children's show in town. Ages: 3-7 Part of the Live & Local Launchpad CYP programme (firing the imagination of children and young people).

ARLETTY THEATRE STINXVILLE
ADVERSE CAMBER DREAMING THE NIGHT FIELD: A LEGEND OF WALES
This wonderfully enjoyable family-friendly antidote to Christmas pantos mixes energetic and irreverent storytelling with an offbeat quirkiness and uproarious live music, telling of the 'Stinxvillains' quest through their beloved Wicked City, for cake.
By turns thrilling, funny, powerful and poetic, this mingling of epic bilingual storytelling and exquisitely haunting folk music casts a potent spell. Vividly evoking the Fourth Branch of the Mabinogion – a treasured medieval Welsh mythology which also inspired Alan Garner's modern classic The Owl Service – this is an electrifying show. Splendid entertainment.
Divinely silly clowning, ramshackle music hall varieties, steampunkery, jokes, circus jazz, gypsy tango and mariachi music, the catchiest of songs, Can-Can dancing, slow-motion Kung-Fu fights, fun-filled capers, thrills and spills, riotous rebellion. Check, check, check – all are excellently here, present and correct. Fabulous steampunk fun for all.

JEZ LOWE & THE BAD PENNIES YULE DO A rousing festive show from Geordieland with BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2015 doublenominee Jez Lowe and his terrific band. A real winterwarmer of a folk/music-hall revue, packed with great songs, rousing tunes, excellent musicianship, entertaining chat and seasonal scroogelike tomfoolery.
‘One of the hottest acts around.’ Daily Telegraph Ages: 10+ Fri 01 Dec 7.30pm St Andrews Church, Shilton CV7 9HX 02476 612 173 Sat 09 Dec 7.30pm
NORTHUMBERLAND THEATRE COMPANY THE PRINCESS AND THE GOBLIN A fast and funny pocket-sized family theatre show beautifully retelling George MacDonald's magical children's book, one of the most unusual and haunting fairy tales ever written. The young Princess Irene lives in a castle; beneath it, evil goblins tunnel to kidnap her for their hideous goblin prince. Overcoming her childhood fears Irene must fight the goblins to save her father's kingdom. With brilliant humour, fabulous choreography and lovely singing, this is an infectiously fun show for all ages, of growing up, making friends and the importance of family.
‘Their ability to weave storytelling magic is second to none.’
BADAPPLE THEATRE THE ELVES AND THE CARPENTER Who will help Santa as crisis hits Christmas toy making time? Not the Elves, they've not been seen since last year when they packed their cases and headed off. A whirlwind journey ensues as Mrs. Claus tries to wrestle victory from defeat. A feel-good comedy alternative to a classic panto, making good use of the magic of puppetry, physical theatre and the songs of BBC Folk Awards 2015 nominee Jez Lowe to delight family audiences.
ZOE GILBY QUARTET IN CONCERT This nationally-renowned, immensely talented and spirited jazz vocalist is joined by her commanding band for an adventurous blend of new music, familiar classics and contemporary covers. An evening of sheer enjoyment.
‘Excellent.’ Courtney Pine, BBC Radio 2

THE BONE ENSEMBLE WHERE'S MY IGLOO GONE? A beautiful, fun and interactive musical-storytelling family show of an ordinary girl's extraordinary quest to save her igloo home, journeying through a dazzling, icy world of husky dogs, starry nights and snowstorms. And the kind of cold that makes your skin tingle. Grounded in science, powered by the imagination, and staged in the round so everyone can see and take part, this dazzling Arctic adventure engages audiences with climate change in a positive, refreshing new way. Truly magical. Children's theatre at its best.

ALAW IN CONCERT Great music by a very special acoustic trio that celebrates the Welsh folk tradition; a joyful brew of breath-taking airs, eminently danceable Celtic jigs and delightful traditional song.
‘Quietly reflective gems… uptempo dance pieces.’ Sunday Times
‘Named after the Welsh name for melody, this band of acoustic wizards produce one heck of a rollicking blast of foot stomping Celtic glory… an intoxicating blend of beautiful music that does wonders for the wider appreciation of traditional Welsh music.’ Acoustic Magazine
TANGRAM THEATRE THE ELEMENT IN THE ROOM...
A PARLOUR CONCERT WITH MISTER KEITH
A clever, heartfelt and highspirited science-theatre show about pioneering, Nobel prizewinning scientist Marie Curie, from the awardwinning John Hinton (not actually a scientist). Replete with big theories, exhilarating experiments, terrible puns, and seriously silly songs, this astonishing show radiates oddball charm and infectious glee.
A splendid evening of gently quirky, expertly crafted songs – think Ray Davies, Squeeze – stories and humour by the self-professed originator of 'Victorian Pop'. With song styles varying from jaunty showground to slow lament, all carried forward by lilting melodies and warm, quintessentially English vocals, the bowler-hatted Mister Keith and his small 'orchestra' of multi-instrumentalists invoke memories of times gone by. An intimate little gem*.
