Anthems: The Concert is the brand new, specially created, live version of the stunning Kerry Ellis hit debut album produced by Brian May. This concert brings together West End and Broadway singing sensation Kerry Ellis (We Will Rock You, Wicked, Chess in Concert and Oliver!) and Queen star Brian May in their first full-length performance. Anthems: The Concert follows a series of acclaimed performances together, Ellis and May stole the show at the Royal Variety Show in 2008, they performed live again at the BBC Proms in the Park and twice sold out the Royal Albert Hall. This brilliant American vocalist weaves together acoustic blues, country ballads and jazz standards. Comparisons with the great Billie Holliday are inevitable, and while some critics have claimed that Madeleine is no copyist, but sings with her own individual voice, it's impossible not to think of Lady Day when you hear her.

In celebration of some of the world’s favourite songs on ‘instruments bought for loose change,’ it’s no exaggeration to say that ‘the Ukes’ have sixteen-handedly ‘For sheer fun and outright turned the world on to the ukulele. The Three B’s

Acker Bilk & His Paramount Jazz Band, The Big Chris Barber Band and Kenny Ball & His Jazzmen Friday 20 May 7.30pm £23, £28

‘...it must be said there was little that even the most critical could fault.’ Liverpool Daily Post

The 2009 Grammy Award winner for Best Traditional Folk Album Loudon Wainwright’s songs have been recorded by Johnny Cash, Earl Scruggs, Rufus Wainwright and Mose Allison, among others. His 2010 album called 10 Songs For The New Depression with tracks called Times Is Hard, Cash For Clunkers and The Panic Is On is a brilliantly topical attempt to explain the current economic climate and bring us a little hope.

Probably the greatest test of an artist's success is durability, and the Three Bs surely pass with flying colours. The fantasy front line during the trad jazz boom - those heady days between Bill Haley and The Beatles - would have been Kenny Ball on trumpet, Chris Barber on trombone and Acker Bilk on clarinet. Though they never played together their three bands totally dominated the scene for years, and in this show The Three Bs and their bands play all the favourites - the very best that traditional jazz has to offer.

Tuesday 4 October 7.30pm £20, £22, £25, £30 ‘Meticulous and unstoppable, spirited and spectacular’ The New York Times

Cliff was reggae’s first international star and remains its greatest living ambassador. His first major hit single was Wonderful World, Beautiful People back in 1969, but the real breakthrough came with the release of the soundtrack to The Harder They Come in 1973. Half of the tracks on that albumn were by Cliff including three songs that have become reggae standards: You Can Get It If You Really Want, the anthemic The Harder they Come and the hymn-like Many Rivers to Cross. Reggae’s finest has a new album called Existence scheduled for release this year, and this concert is one of only two chances to see him outside of his appearances at some of this summer’s major festivals. This exceptional double bill, in the year both Carthy and Swarbrick celebrate their 7oth birthdays, sees full sets by two generations of folk music’s finest. Carthy and Swarbrick shook up British folk in the 60s, and Lau are one of the most exciting bands to emerge from the contemporary folk/roots scene.

The 26-member multi Grammy Award winning choir have an unparalleled international reputation as one of the world's great choirs. Drawing on the musical talents from the many churches and communities in and around Soweto, the choir perform traditional and contemporary African and international gospel. Earthy rhythms, rich harmonies and charismatic performances combine to uplift the soul and celebrate the unique spirit of South Africa.

As a child the vocalist and songwriter Lang honed his young talent through singing torch songs by artists such as Billie Holiday and Nina Simone in the front room of his family home in Toxteth. Tonight, he revisits many of these classic songs, in a performance featuring contributions by some very special guests. Lang shot to critical and commercial acclaim in the mid-80s with his first album Scallywag Jazz. After touring with Suzanne Vega, Alison Moyet he and his band earned a prestigious residency at Ronnie Scotts. Currently working on his eighth album, he remains a key figure in the Liverpool music scene and continues to exert his unique voice and style in the interpretation of his own songs and those of others. After Eight

Co-writer and star of the recent Elvis Costello play at the Eveyman, Weston King turns his formidable talents to a folk sound. His most recent release, I Didn’t Raise My Son To Be A Soldier, is an album of protest songs interpreting classics by the likes of Phil Ochs and Bob Dylan as well updating the genre with his own new songs. Delivered with his customary passion Weston King pays a powerful and touching tribute to lost ideals and unsung heroes.

One of the most potent artists to emerge from the Scottish folk-music revival, Gaughan tells it like it is. His explosive and dexterous guitar-playing, and tremendous voice, express perfectly his passionate, often affectionate, and always truthful songs. Roberts is a Scottish singer-songwriter and interpreter of traditional ballads. 2010's Too Long In This Condition is his sixth album and his third collection of traditional material. Signed to Drag City Records (Chicago) he has released three albums of original material under the name Appendix Out plus five albums under his own name. A recent front-cover feature in The Wire magazine revealed his ability to appeal to both the underground ‘urban folk' and traditional folk crowds.

‘Boogie woogie is alive and well! Ben Waters...has got the touch and the feel for it.’ Jools Holland

You may know him from his pivotal role as percussionist for Gilad Atzmon’s Orient House ensemble or Tim Garland’s Lighthouse Trio. With his own band the drummer and composer Sirkis plays intriguing jazz fusion rhythms creating a dreamy, ambient sound influenced by the less subtle early jazz fusion pioneers mixed with the music of the trio’s own backgrounds, Israel, Greece, UK, even hints of eighties post-new wave goth-rock. Their new album, Letting Go, has critics cooing with Jazzwise Magazine among those giving it five stars. Reed is a one-man revolution. More than a guitarist, the New Yorker flies in the face of musical convention and accepted wisdom. He has a unique style, with blurred hands he taps, tickles, slaps and soothes his instrument, fusing polyrhythmic percussion with melody to create a unique sound. Each piece is a sonic tidal wave, yet with just one acoustic guitar and ten fingers Reed renders audiences awe-struck. After a sell out After 8 gig in May 2010, we are delighted that Carmen Souza returns to Liverpool Philharmonic. Born in Lisbon to Cape Verdean parents Souza sings in her ancestor's dialect, Creole. Her sound mixes traditional African and Cape Verde rhythms with her contemporary jazz/soul influences. Artists such as Luis Morais, Theo Pas'cal, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone and Etta Jones have all inspired her brilliant and unique vocal style. Ben Waters Trio is among the best contemporary performers of piano-driven boogie woogie and rock n roll. Waters combines his own energetic piano virtuosity and original material with the music of his heroes, Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis and Amos Milburn. This winning formula has won him some knowledgeable fans. He played at Jools Holland’s wedding and at Jerry Hall’s 50th birthday - Mick Jagger couldn’t resist jamming along!

Prowse returns to Liverpool Philharmonic after taking part in the hugely successful Irish Sea Sessions concert last October. Having formed two well known bands in Pele and Amsterdam, he has recorded duets with both Elvis Costello and Christy Moore. Amsterdam classic 'Does this train stop on Merseyside?' was brought to the worlds attention by the the late legendary John Peel. Prowse will be playing songs old and new and claims his annual After 8 show is his favourite gig of the year.

Voted Best World Music Guitar Player by Guitar Player Magazine readers. The French-Algerian guitarist, singer and composer studied piano from the age of 7 and at 11 taught himself guitar. He was influenced in those early days by the folk revival blooming in 60s Britain, France and North America. He soon began to explore his own diverse musical heritage, this passion for such diverse musical influences, combined with his astonishing technical talent have made him into an exceptional artist.

Yamma is a traditional Pitjantjatjara man from Australia's central desert. An extraordinary songwriter and an exceptional guitarist, he also has an incredible voice, rich, deep and resonant. Regarded by many as one of Australia’s most important indigenous songwriters, Yamma’s brutally honest tales of alcohol abuse, cultural degradation, respect for the old law and the importance of country, are spine tingling. His star is definitely rising with critics heaping praise on his album of late-last year, Countryman.

Star of BBC’s Mock The Week and Live At The Apollo, Andy Parsons is also a Time Out Award winner, New Zealand International Comedy Award winner and Montreal Just For Laughs Comedy Festival Award winner. This is his third UK tour. It may be his last. There’s only so much of the UK a man needs to see. So he will be holding nothing back, the show will shave even closer – and will be nothing but the whole truth, slightly embellished. Laughter Therapy is Carr’s ninth solo show. It’ll be an evening of none stop jokes, gags and banter. If you’ve got a sick sense of humour then maybe laughter is the best medicine. Not to be taken if you have a sensitive disposition or an overactive moral compass. Recommended dose: one brand new show to be taken annually (I said annually). BBC Three’s breakout hit comedy sensation Lee Nelson brings you the live version of Lee Nelson’s Well Good Show written, performed and staring critically-acclaimed character comic Simon Brodkin. Last summer he took Lee Nelson’s Well Good Edinburgh Show to the Fringe, selling every single ticket and receiving rave reviews.
