This ‘Very Best of’ concert showcases O’Sullivan’s tremendous musical abilities and all his hits from the early 70s right through to 2012. Joined on stage by his amazing eleven piece band and a string quartet, he presents a two hour performance to coincide with the release of The Very Best of Gilbert O’Sullivan. The album includes his biggest hits including Nothing Rhymed, Clair, Alone Again (Naturally), Get Down and Why, Oh Why, Oh Why. Kher is a revered singer, lyricist and composer from India who is a household name across the sub‐continent. In Bollywood Kher’s voice is now instantly recognisable after super hit songs like Allah Ke Bandey, Tu Jaane Na, Ya Rabbaand Chak De Phattay. He formed his band Kailasa with brothers Paresh and Naresh Kamath in 2004. Together, they perform their popular songs, Teri Deewani, Dilruba, Jhoome Re, Saiyyan, Piya Ghar Aavenge, along with new tracks from their upcoming album Rangeele, some Nusrat favourites like Ishq ka Rutba and Sanu Ek Pal Chain Na Ave and his Bollywood hits.

Folk singer, songwriter, and guitarist Christy Moore is as relevant to today’s contemporary music scene as he ever has been. 2010 saw him win Best Male at Ireland’s prestigious Meteor Music Awards. While 2011 saw him take the stage with Coldplay in front of 80,000 at Oxygen Festival and the release a new album, Folk Tale. Moore looks set to continue his reign as the king of Irish roots music, with a career both as a solo musician and with Planxty and Moving Hearts - that has spanned over four decades. He is accompanied by his long-term producer, collaborator and friend, Declan Sinnott.

For over five decades The Osmond Brothers have been entertaining the world. This final tour will take fans on a journey through their many unforgettable hits - from classics such as Down By The Lazy River, Let Me In and Love Me For A Reason to Crazy Horses and Long Haired Lover From Liverpool – the 1972 number one from Jimmy, who has more recently appeared in the West End in Grease and Chicago.

Since the release of her debut album The Kick Inside in 1978, Kate Bush has toured just the once, performing 25 shows across the UK and Europe in 1979. Despite this fact Bush’s albums are still as popular today as they were upon release; indeed her new album of 2011, 50 Words for Snow, went straight into the top ten of the album charts. This show sees the introduction of the talented Maaike Breijman who will astound all as she sings Kate Bush’s greatest songs and recreates many of the dance routines performed by Kate Bush on stage and in video. Maaike is backed by a band of top musicians and dancers under a production designed by the team that brought you Lord of the Dance.

Along with The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, The Hollies helped shape the world of pop and rock as we know it today. No support act is needed as they perform their classics - The Air That I Breathe, Bus Stop, Carrie Anne, Just One Look, He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother and much more from their 50 year career. A shy, young Ronnie Wycherley from Liverpool became one of Britain’s best loved rock stars. On what would have been his 72nd birthday join Billy’s original band Fury’s Tornados as they perform his timeless twenty nine hit records - Last Night Was Made For Love, Wondrous Place, I Will, Jealousy, Halfway To Paradise and many more. Ian Anderson is known throughout the world of rock music as the flute and voice behind the legendary Jethro Tull. He is widely recognised as the man who introduced the flute to rock music. This year is the 40th anniversary of his Jethro Tull album Thick As A Brick. The first half of the show will consist of the original Thick As A Brick album in its entirety, while the second half is a set of his new work with plenty of Jethro Tull hits thrown in for good measure. After a gap of six years, the American country singer, songwriter and 2010 inductee to the Country Music Hall of Fame returns to the UK. In this show Williams will perform many of the songs that have made him a household name, and that all his fans know and love, including the hits I Believe In You, My Best Friend, Good Ole Boys Like Me, Tulsa Time and many more. Williams has just recorded an album of new material that will be released to tie in with this live appearance. Christie has had an illustrious career spanning 40 years. He has sold over 10 million records including the hits I Did What I Did For Maria, Is This the Way to Amarillo and Avenues and Alleyways. His recent chart successes include Sweet September, the Jarvis Cocker song Walk Like a Panther and the Comic Relief version of Is This the Way to Amarillo which became the biggest selling No1 single of 2005. Last year Christie released another charity single, Steal The Sun, with all proceeds going to Afghan Heroes, a charity supporting the British Forces in Afghanistan. 10cc made some of the greatest hits of the 70s and are now one of the most exciting live bands of that era currently performing, selling out Liverpool Philharmonic Hall for their concert last year. This heart-warming show brings together five of country music’s leading ladies. Lynn Anderson performs her hit songs including (I Never Promised You a) Rose Garden. Anderson has won virtually every award in country including the Country Music Association Female Vocalist of the Year, the Academy of Country Music Female Vocalist of the Year (twice), the American Music Award for Favourite Female Vocalist, Billboard’s Artist of the Decade and a Grammy Award. This remarkable show also features 60s icon Jeannie C Riley who is celebrated for her worldwide No. 1 hit Harper Valley PTA. For the first time Denny’s entire musical legacy is showcased live in this adventurous concert bringing together her work with Fairport Convention, Fotheringay, her solo career and the new songs completed by Thea Gilmore. Gilmore joins a unique line up of artists, including some of Denny’s former colleagues and friends, together with members of Bellowhead who form a ‘super group’ to create this unique, homage to the artist described by Richard Thompson as ‘the greatest British female artist of her generation’.

One of the most unusual collaborations of the past decade, we initially welcomed The Imagined Village to Liverpool Philharmonic back in 2007 in one of Featuring: their first ever performances. This unique project Andy Gangadeen & Simon has successfully updated the sound of modern English Richmond (The Bays), folk and has produced two critically acclaimed and Eliza Carthy, Martin Carthy, Jackie Oates, Simon Emmerson commercially successful albums. Now there is a third instalment. & Johnny Kalsi (Afro Celt Sound System), Ali Friend The band have appeared on BBC Two’s Later…With (Clayhill/Red Snapper), Jools, won out at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and Sheema Mukherjee made a triumphant return to Liverpool Philharmonic (Transglobal Underground), Barney Morse Brown (Duotone). in 2010. If they had initially developed as a loose collective of singers and musicians, the band has subsequently consolidated into a working, growing, organic group. This stability in personnel is shiningly reflected in the third album and the excitement of their live shows which go from strength to strength.

This key figure of US blues music has been making his laid back swamp blues for over six decades. Jim Moray

Moray’s re-imagining of English traditional music saw him awarded the unprecedented combination Wednesday 18 April 8.30pm of Best Newcomer and Best Album at the 2004 BBC £15 Radio2 Folk Awards. After notching up a live reputation with performances at Glastonbury, Cambridge Folk ‘Along with an effortlessly Festival and WOMAD, his 2008 release, Low Culture melodic voice, Moray’s picked up fRoots’ Critics Poll and Mojo Magazine’s willingness to experiment Folk Album of the Year. He joined forces with Saul has made him one of the brightest, if most controversial, Rose (Waterson:Carthy) and William Bowerman young talents in English folk’ (La Roux) to headline summer festivals through 2009 and released his fourth album In Modern The Observer History. He also produced his sister Jackie Oates’ award-winning Hyperboreans album. Still in his twenties this acclaimed singer, songwriter and guitarist is at the forefront of a new folk revival in the UK. Ocean Colour Scene front man Fowler marks the release of his album, Merrymouth, featuring the award winning folk musicians John McCusker and Andy Cutting. Whilst Ocean Colour Scene take most of the 2012 off to concentrate on writing for a new album Fowler has taken the opportunity to release his long awaited folk album and perform it live with his band Dan Sealey, Mike McNamara and Adam Barry.

Irvine is one of the great Irish singers. His voice is one of a handful of truly great ones that gets to the very soul of Ireland. He is a founding member of two groundbreaking groups, Sweeney’s Men and Planxty. Both groups have inspired Irish traditional music makers for a generation. This would be achievement enough for most, but since, Irvine has created THE Irish super group Patrick Street, and the Pan-European group Mosiac. Irvine is a world music pioneer and icon for traditional music and musicians.

John O’Connell

As co-founder of the celebrated Liverpool band Groundpig O’Connell has his name indelibly written Saturday 5 May 8.30pm into the tapestry of the city’s music scene. Born and £12 raised in Everton, his early influences were rooted ‘Absolutely stunning. Johnny in acoustic, folk and classical guitar. Grossman, Jansch, Renbourn and Carthy all inspire O’Connell is one of the most talented musicians I have come across’ and ignited his passion for music. It is these early influences that delicately resonate through his Peter Hooton, The Farm performances, where he mixes his own original songs with timeless instrumental guitar classics.

Fresh off the back of the three-times BBC Folk Award nominated collaboration Mawkin: Causley, who we featured in the After 8 Series back in 2009, Mawkin are now forging a bold new sound that strengthens their instrumental roots and embraces a new, exuberant exploration into the traditional folk canon. Expect the mesmerising guitar playing of David Delarre, the beats of long-time producer and percussionist Lee Richardson, underpinning richly textured bass lines from Danny Crump. Perhaps one of the UK’s most respected and innovative acoustic guitarists, Giltrap has worked with an amazingly broad range of artists, from rock musicians Brian May, Rick Wakeman and Midge Ure to jazz virtuoso Martin Taylor and the classical guitarist Raymond Burley. As a child he unwittingly taught himself a hybrid technique of plectrum and little finger, and in doing so, created the individual sound that is still his trademark. Trivia fans may be interested to know that at one point his tunes The Carnival and Ivor Novello Award nominated Heartsong were both being used as the theme tunes to ITV’s Wish You Were Here and BBC’s Holiday programme respectively.

Nora Guthrie, daughter of Woody Guthrie, gives a personal talk about her father’s life and music a hundred years since his birth. Woody Guthrie is still one of the most influential artists in music, counting Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Billy Bragg and Bruce Springsteen and a myriad of others as fans. You’ll also hear music from Alun Parry founder of the Woody Guthrie Folk Club and one of the UK’s leading political folk singer songwriters and Rich Man’s Ruin a radical folk trio who have built a fine reputation with their three-part harmonies and versions of Guthrie songs.

Newfoundland-born Curran describes song-writing as an act of ‘expressing the inexpressible’; her achingly beautiful songs sneak up on you, little bits of the lyrics stick in your head. Witness her perform them live and you’ll understand why, although relatively unknown in the UK, she is making waves in Canada. Nunnery has stories to tell, and a voice that makes you listen. She released her debut album Company of Ghosts in 2010 when BBC Radio 2’s Mike Harding named it in his top ten releases of the year. She also appeared in the inaugural Irish Sea Sessions at Liverpool Philharmonic and her reputation as a captivating new voice in British folk continues to grow.

Among guitarists and critics, Woody Mann is considered a modern master. While the blues are his touchstone, he draws inspiration from every direction, blending a myriad of influences with ease and grace. Pioneering guitar legend John Fahey said it well: ‘You can hear classical, jazz and blues approaches somehow converging into a single sparkling sound – a sound completely his own’.

Marking the release of Does this train stop on Merseyside: The Very Best of Ian Prowse, Pele and Amsterdam, we welcome pop songsmith Ian Prowse back to the After 8 stage for what he says is one of his favourite regular fixtures. His ‘Best Of’ features duets with Elvis Costello and Christy Moore and this special acoustic gig showcases tunes spanning 1991 to 2012 and possibly some of the stories behind them.

Liverpool Welsh Choral patron Karl Jenkins conducts one of his most enduring works. Join screen-music maestro Carl Davis and the Orchestra for a blockbuster of a concert that takes us on a journey through The Apprentice, Cranford Suite and Brassed Off, via The King’s Speech, Black Swan and Titanic! And who better to guide you on this journey than Heidi Thomas, scriptwriter for the new BBC drama series Upstairs Downstairs.

John Wilson conductor Kim Criswell singer Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra Tonight we celebrate the ladies of the golden age of the film musical from Judy Garland, Lena Horne, Alice Faye, and Jeanette MacDonald to Julie Andrews, Shirley Jones, and Barbra Streisand. You’ll hear songs including I’m the Greatest Star, Dear Mr. Gable (You Made Me Love You), But the World Goes ‘Round, You’ll Never Know, The Sound of Music, and San Francisco, all painstakingly restored to their original film orchestrations by John Wilson, and sung by Kim Criswell as a tribute to those extraordinary women. Many of these songs have never been publicly performed in these original arrangements.

Last Night of the Summer Pops Sunday 22 July 7.30pm £16, £21, £28, £33, £40 Carl Davis CBE (Hon) conductor Elizabeth Watts soprano Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra Carl Davis returns to the helm for another fabulous Last Night of the Summer Pops, this time with soprano Elizabeth Watts, winner of the lieder prize at Cardiff Singer of the World, 2007. Watts sings operatic gems including Puccini’s O mio babbino caro (from Gianni Schicchi), Quando m’en (from La Boheme) and Handel’s Let the Bright Seraphim. And of course, what Last Night celebrations would be complete without the much-loved classics Jerusalem, Rule Britannia and Pomp and Circumstance?

A Night To Remember

Without doubt the definitive screen version of the Titanic disaster, told from the standpoint of 2nd Officer Charles Herbert Lightoller, the most senior of the ill-fated ship’s Deck Officers who survived the disaster. The climactic sinking of the vessel is re-created with painstaking accuracy; designers used blueprints of the liner to create the sets and the whole film plays out in real time, it is a mere 37 minutes shorter than the actual tragedy.

Liverpool Central Station Closure Liverpool Central will be closed for refurbishment from 23 April. The Wirral line will re-open on 25 August and the station will re-open on 22 October for Northern line passengers.During this time if using the Northern line leave the train at either Moorfields or Brunswick and take one of the free shuttle bus services to Lime Street, Elliott Street or Berry Street.
