Federal Indian Policy and Native American Identity Thursday, Jan 23 • 6:30pm • CCR Scott Manning Stevens, Director of Native American and Indigenous Studies at Syracuse University, will discuss shifts in Federal Indian policy and the social construction of American Indian identity. New Spaces

Thanks to our transformation, we have a couple of new spaces for programs. Studio@LPL is a new “maker space” for hands-on programs where we might be a little messy. Collaborate@LPL is a new glassed-in room with technology available for smaller workshops.

For the winter we will look at how the Electoral College works and what is the purpose of the Census and why it is important.

Volunteer Day: Fidget Quilts* Tuesday, Feb 11 • 10am • Studio Create fidget quilts, which are designed to relieve stress associated with Alzheimer’s and engage fine motor skills. All supplies provided. Quilts will be distributed to local memory care facilities.*Registration required.

LPL Speakeasy* Thursday, Feb 13 • 6:30pm • CCR Calling all flappers and clubmen! Join us for a night of fun at our speakeasy. Belly up to our bar for a delectable mocktail, join in the fun at our gaming tables, or dance to the smooth sounds of our live saxophone/ piano duo. *Registration required. Democracy in Action: Become a Sworn-Again American! Saturday, Mar 7 • 1pm • Lobby What would it be like for Americans new and old to become more engaged in civic life, more connected to people from all walks of life, more grateful for the opportunities and freedoms that come with citizenship? There will be patriotic music, books on American history and civics, patriotic giveaways and a Sworn-Again America ceremony complete with oath every 15 minutes.

Food and refreshments will be served. Cosplay is welcomed, but costumes must be deemed appropriate by library staff.

Participants are encouraged to bring in their own trivia questions to test their friends or stump their rivals. Questions must be deemed appropriate by library staff. Workshop for Writing a Research Paper

Tuesday, Jan 28 • 3pm • SMR Participants will learn steps for writing a research paper: how to choose a topic, how to gather useful print and digital information, how to discern reputable resources, and how to cite works. By the end of this workshop, students will have the tools, skills and confidence to write an amazing paper! Participants should bring their active library card with a PIN, a research topic and a laptop (we will have extras).

Tweens, do you feel left out? Too old for the children’s programs but not ready to hang out with the teens? Come to Tween Scene and tell us what YOU want to do! Let It Snow! Art Project

Thursday, Feb 20 • 10am • Studio Get ready for our Frozen movie by creating a winter landscape or snowman using our special “snow” paint.

Wednesday, Feb 20 • 1-3pm • CCR This winter, Elsa & Anna are back in Arendelle and you’re invited to shout, sing, cheer and scream along with the original Frozen movie. Feel free to dress in costume. Refreshments will be served. Rated PG.

Building Fun

Friday, Feb 21 • 1pm • CCR Children of all ages can explore their creativity and build with Duplo, LEGO, cardboard blocks and more.

Dr. Seuss Crafts

Monday, Mar 2 • 3-4:30pm • SMR Celebrate the birthday of iconic children’s author Dr. Seuss on Read Across America Day by making some super-zooper-flooper crafts!

Maker Lab: Music & Art

Wednesday, Mar 11 • 1:30pm • Studio Experience music via art activities, including DIY instruments, listen & draw and speaker painting.

Meet the Masters*

Saturdays • 1pm • Studio March 14, 21, 28 & April 4 Students in grades K-6 will learn about a Master Artist’s history, painting technique, and color theory while copying a famous painting that they can take home. Supplies provided. A materials fee of $10 per class or $40 for all four classes is payable by cash or check.*Please register in advance for each class as space is limited.
