MIKE SORENSEN ~ SALES 641-745-7949 mikelpi@yahoo.com
Greetings, Well, as we step into another year, we hope that life in this country will start getting better. I could get political here, but I will just leave it for your imagination on that statement, most of you know how my mind runs. As I sit here writing this on December 4th, 2021, I guess my mind may be weakening, but I don’t ever remember a December being this nice. I suppose I will eat my words on that last statement, but sunshine and forty-two degrees on December 4th is nice. November seems to always be kind of busy with sales and travel. We try to incorporate herd visits in our travels as much as we can, we can’t hit everyone, but we keep trying. Some days we are even lucky enough to carpool to make trips more economical and entertaining. Dustin Carter and I got to carpool as we were headed to Sydenstricker Angus. If you have never been to the Sydenstricker Angus Sale, get it on your bucket list because it is an experience. You will be treated so good, in so many ways, and you will enjoy them all! Plus you will get to see some of the best Angus cattle in the country and the food is awesome. So, on the way we made the decision to stop at Wheeler Angus to have a quick viewing of the cattle that will sell December 11,2021 in Paris, Missouri. After calling one of the Wheeler sale reps, Brent Sayre, he asked if we had eaten dinner (noon meal to me) and then made a recommendation that we stop and eat at “The Hoof Steakhouse” in Madison, Missouri. Well, it was near noon, and ol’
Mike likes to be fully nourished in a timely fashion, especially when on a cattle viewing trip, and Dustin didn’t argue. This place seemed pure country to me. It wasn’t white tablecloth fancy, but very nice, and a mix of people from cowboys, to plow jockeys, to bankers, to an Auctioneer and Livestock Plus fieldman. After a lengthy look at the menu and confusion setting in, my question for Katie our waitress was how is your catfish? She said awesome, we sell a lot of it. I know catfish in a steak house and going to a beef sale is probably a no-no for most cowboys, but I always have a hankering for good catfish. Katie wasn’t kidding. I loved that catfish. I just don’t know how to explain how great it was. It had to be the best very lightly breaded, perfectly seasoned, perfectly prepared catfish ever. I could have stayed and foundered on that catfish. Katie, thank you for the recommendation. Makes me want to go back to Madison, MO. Chas Wheeler & Keith Thomas great place to eat, with perfect atmosphere!!! We look forward to seeing all of you at the Iowa Beef Expo, Nebraska Cattlemen’s Classic, Illinois Beef Expo, Ohio Beef Expo. As always PLEASE keep our countries leaders, our military, and their families in your thoughts and prayers.

Hats Off by Austin Sorensen
Wow! Already the first of a new year! Now that’s hard to believe. I think everyone I have visited with is absolutely pumped about 2022. Optimism is high and markets look good, it is a great time to be involved in production agriculture. As we look into bull sale season I often enjoy visiting with people about what makes their perfect bull. Most producers commercial or seedstock seem to agree on starting at the ground and going up but from there it goes every direction. Some value muscling and bone work while others search for a calving ease sire so they can go to work during the day

Either way, I’m sure the right bull for you will cross our path this spring and we would love to help you find him! The perfect bull for me looks like a bull sound at the ground, rugged in his make up yet still good enough through his shoulder and front one third to have that added eye appeal. If this is your kind or not I think we can all agree there’s nothing better on a cool morning than walking through a deep bedded pen of sale bulls. This month my hat goes off to all the dedicated bull buyers focused on finding the right genetic fit for their operation! As always if we can help you find your next herd sire or foundation female, please don’t hesitate to give me or any of our team a call. God bless and Happy New Year! COMMENTARY
The Road Ahead for Cattle Markets by Michael Seek Fox Group at the Board of Trade
The last Federal Reserve ‘event’ of this last year was a few weeks ago, yet the ramifications of the market reactions on that day are very significant. How so ? Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell made it very clear in the Q and A press conference that inflation has indeed run hotter than the 2% objective they anticipated and further that they expect it to stay higher into this new year of 2022. If you were watching markets that day then you know that money poured into Gold and Silver and Bitcoin and Crude and Diesel. Cycle buy months were in December and said cycles now point for Gold and Silver and Bitcoin and Diesel to run up into March of this new year——at the minimum. This is relevant to most all Livestock Plus mag readers because it implies your need to hedge input costs from livestock feed to diesel to fertilizer should be hedged locally on forward contracts or on the Chicago Board if the substantial risk of the Board is agreeable with you in the wee hours of night. We have reminded you over and over again for the last few years on this column monthly article that when you are hedging your risk of runaway input costs that you need ‘financial airbags’, meaning that if you buy Diesel or Corn futures to hedge input costs that you also need to own ‘long puts’ below your long Corn or Diesel futures so that if a depression due to a global debt crisis or global internet outage were to occur that your risk would be locked in at futures entry minus strike price of the put ‘airbag’ you own. Hedging your input costs will be more important than you know since a spike in Cattle prices will be of little to no avail if your input costs eat you alive and take all the profit margins on your livestock on the dirt under normal circumstances. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so do take a look at the new charts embedded in this article so that you can use the linear objectives on the high side to set your hedges or forward contracts with local suppliers. While we think Bull Call Spreads are a more efficient way to hedge some of your upside input costs we realize that some of you do not understand the quite simple Bull Call Spread that when done on a simple basis and debit ‘fully paid for’ basis that you do not have to worry about margin calls in the middle of the night. If you would like to educate yourself on the simple Bull Call Option Spread then talk with us. Call Michelle White here at our Board office in Chicago at 312-756-0931 and request a quick mentoring session of 20 minutes to educate you and your banker on the risk and potential rewards-gains-losses’ of such long hedging. In consideration of the foregoing please talk with your financial planner and stockbroker and consider the potential need to hedge some or all of your stock market holdings with your family or ranches’ financial planner. Not so many years and decades ago inflation was the enemy of earnings of major stocks. Do understand that at if inflation is not contained at 5% that the Federal Reserve may have to ‘squash’ the stock market to help their ‘cause’. Remember, the SP500 is more than double the price it was at the beginning of the Wuhan virus pandemic

in 2020. Can it have a correction of 20% to 30% ? Sure it can. That would still leave the over 40% higher than the bottom of the Wuhan virus low in early 2020. Talk with us and educate yourself and all of your key operational folks. The risk of loss in agricultural Chicago Board and New York Board instruments can be substantial and is not necessarily for all folks and ranches. Hedge positions do not necessarily minimize risk associated with sale barn acquisitions on your operations on the dirt. Again, talk with us to learn how to manage risk on the dirt and on the Board. n

Prepare for a Successful Heifer Breeding Season
conceive early in the breeding season. “Research shows that heifer that conceive early in the breeding season stay in the herd longer and are more productive in their lifetime,” says Davis. “Have a veterinarian do a pelvic examination on the heifers, which evaluates reproductive tract score and pelvic area, approximately 30 days prior to the breeding season,” says Davis. The reproductive tract score evaluates reproductive tract development on a 1 to 5 scale. Heifer tracts that score a 1 are immature while tracts that score a 4 or 5 are cycling and these heifers are eligible to breed. Heifer tracts that score a 3 are approximately 30 day away from cycling while tracts that score a 2 are more than 30 days away from cycling. “Ideally 50% of your heifers should score 4 or 5 during the examination,” says Davis. Heifers that score a 1 or 2 are less likely to become pregnant during the breeding season so Davis urges producers to cull those heifers. Heifer pelvic area evaluation at prebreeding time determines if the heifer’s pelvic area is large enough to have a calf with ease. “Pelvic area at prebreeding time should be 150 cm2 or larger,” says Davis. However, if the heifer pelvic area is slightly less than 150 cm2 recheck the pelvic area at pregnancy check time within 90 days after the beginning of the breeding season. At this time the pelvic area should be greater than 180 cm2. Davis urges cattle producers to cull heifers that don’t reach that mark because of potential calving problems down the road. “Replacement heifer development is an expensive part of the cattle operation,” says Davis. Therefore, implement these strategies to make sure that heifers that begin the breeding season are reproductively sound and that their pelvic area is large enough to have a calf with ease. n
by Patrick Davis Regional Livestock Field Specialist University of MO Extension STOCKTON, Mo. — Preparations are being made for the upcoming breeding season. Patrick Davis MU Extension Regional Livestock Field Specialist urges cattle producers to make sure replacement heifers are ready for the breeding season. Below, he shares some heifer management strategies that should lead to proper conception rates resulting in optimum profitability of the cattle operation. From a nutritional standpoint Davis says, “feed heifers to reach 55% to 65% of their mature body weight prior to the breeding season.” This is the optimum weight for heifers to be cycling and therefore heifers reaching this target should

Nichols Farms Uses C-Lock System for Feed Efficiency by Caleb Nelson Adair County Free Press
BRIDGEWATER — Farmers usually see informed decisions as good decisions. Dave Nichols, a staple in the beef industry for many decades, is no different. Nichols Farms and its staff, at their operation at 2188 Clay Avenue, Bridgewater, examine countless fields of information on each of their bulls daily so that they can better Dave Nichols shows a steel antenna manage each animal panel that communicates information and the utmost to the computer in the C-Lock feeding system at Nichols Farms. quality can be passed along to the customer. To enhance that process, Nichols Farms took a new step in feed efficiency by recently purchasing and installing what Nichols says is a “game changer” of a feed distribution system. Brian Fieser, a beef field nutritionist with ADM Animal Nutrition, Inc., says that feed efficiency, which is the amount of feed consumed divided by the amount of feed grain produced, expressed as a ratio, is paramount to success in determining value in a set of calves. “Knowing the supremacy of a set of calves in converting feed to beef can make them more valuable,” Fieser said. “This knowledge can come from records of feed efficiency of previous calf crops or even knowing the genetic merit of a set of calves via DNA testing.” Fieser explained that one hindrance to assigning feed efficiency on genetics is that not all of the cattle in the same pen will eat the same amount. That’s where Each of these feed bunks weighs the system that each animal as they eat and drink, Nichols Farms has sending real-time information to staff at installed comes in so Nichols Farms that they can learn from handy. and use in the operation. “The maintenance
of the producing cow herd also accounts for 65% of the feed energy required for the beef production cycle. Additionally, assessment of feed efficiency in beef cows is difficult as they are largely maintained on pasture, where measurement of feed intake is challenging,” Fieser said. By installing this C-Lock system that assists in feeding the bulls, Nichols is able to quantify feed efficiency even more. The C-Lock system is designed as a SmartFeed and SmartScale system that brings individual animal feed intake measurement and control as well as real-time animal performance and management to progressive livestock producers around the world. “Our systems deploy technology to help you measure and optimize feed intake, improve feed efficiency based genetic selection, reduce labor, and make other data based decisions that lead to improved productivity and profitability,” C-Lock’s website says. Nichols and his wife, Phyllis, who passed away in September, first saw feed efficiency data being gathered when they were on Ross Havens, Marketing Coordinator their honeymoon in at Nichols Farms, reviews fields of 1966. Bulls’ intake information on cattle using the were being measured C-Lock System installed during the fall at the farm. in individual pens, which determined feed efficiency. “Since our first bulls were put on test in 1958, we have measured the average daily gain and the cost of gain for the entire group,” Nichols said. A decade later. Nichols first saw a farmer using an invention that was measuring exactly what each bull was eating. “I knew that ultimately we would have to measure the inputs and the outputs to determine real dollar values,” Nichols said. The C-Lock, installed in one of Nichols Farms’ barns last month, weighs the feed each individual bull eats every feeding. It weighs him each time he drinks water. That data is then fed into an online portal that Nichols Farms staff can then use in decision-making down the road. “We’re looking to improve the efficiency, but in doing so, we’re using less feed per pound to gain,” said Ross Havens, Nichols Farms’ Marketing Coordinator. “We’re also working on using less carbon. We need to reduce our carbon footprint too and this is a good way to do that.” Nichols is excited for the way the C-Lock technology will likely carry Nichols Farms well into the future. “My lifetime goal has been to grow two blades of grass where my dad grew one. And to breed problem-free bulls that sire cattle that eat less and gain more,” Nichols said. “This technology will enable Nichols bulls to do it on steers and cow herds. And, I’m going to be around to see it happen.” n

Lefty’s Logic by Eric Lee
A few years back a good friend of mine from Ohio came to me with what ended up being one hell of an opportunity. It was a group of Angus cows, most of which, where Stertzbach bred. At this point in my life I was so focused on just Simmental genetics that I did not realize exactly what great cow families I was being offered. I was looking at this group as a great way to make half bloods using Simmental bulls. What I should have been doing is breeding them Angus. I finally sat down and studied their pedigrees and I had two blackbirds, both granddaughters of Champion Hill 1943. Two Proven Queens, both being granddaughters of Dameron PVF Proven Queen 010 and a Nellie going back to 6005. One of my favorites in this group was one of the Blackbirds we call Tinker. Tinker is the dam of the percentage A Step Up bred that was lead off and high seller on the Pinnacle Sale at World Beef Expo. With Tinker now showing her age, she is well over 10, Donnie and I decided to go ahead and get some eggs in the tank before it’s too late. This time I am going to go Angus on her. I can not wait to get some of these calves on the ground and into production. There is not a doubt in my mind they will be the foundation of my Angus cows for many years to come. As the new year arrives I look forward to working with all our great producers. Please do not hesitate to contact me or any of the LPI family for your marketing needs. As always, thank you for your continued business and God bless. Eric “Lefty” Lee 608-295-5312 gileecc@yahoo.com

Success of Past Graduates of the Hoover Angus Program!
Erica of Ellston T220
These animals all sold at two years of age or less by Hoover Angus. See what they have accomplished for their new owners!
Erica of Ellston T220 – sold for $20,000 as an 8 month-old heifer, and her owners have sold interests in T220 to make her now valued at $200,000! She has grossed over $200,000 worth of progeny sales before turning 4 years of age, including two sons to bull studs! Her best is yet to come! Daughters serving as donors work in 7 herds in 5 different states. Owned by Baldridge Performance Angus, Bullseye Angus, KDS Angus, 2S Angus, and 7 Oaks Angus
Erica of Ellston R96
Erica of Ellston R96 – Has produced over $125,000 in registered progeny sales, including one flush of 4 head that garnered a total of $81,000! R96 records a whopping 3-114 weaning ratio on her natural calves, and a 356 day calving interval, easily earning her prestigious Pathfinder honors. Owned by: Eagle Hill Farms Miss Blackap Ellston J2 – This 10th generation Hoover Angus bred, born, and raised Blackcap Ellston female was the lead-off, $20,000 top-selling open heifer from our 2011 auction. J2 hit her financial stride eight years of age, generating nearly a quarter million dollars of revenue in a 12 month period for her new owners! At 11 years of age, J2 produced the $158,000 top-selling bull of all breeds at the 2021 Midland Bull Test! This bull, Sterling Bond 007, was selected by ST Genetics. When we sold J2, we retained one flush from this female, and had five live calves born. The one bull was Hoover No Doubt; three of the four sisters earned Pathfinder honors! Owned by Bullseye Angus, 7 Oaks Angus, Reverse Rocking R Ranch and GMC Genetics Hoover No Doubt – No Doubt’s progeny have met the market’s demands for width of base, excellent feet, and sound skeletons with real-life true performance that is not just genomic-based. No Doubt consistently transmits style and eye appeal with an uncommon amount of meat and muscle. This past year’s sale reports from highly respected breeders across the country have been filled with No Doubt sons and daughters in high demand. Owned by: Alta Genetics, Spruce Mountain Ranch, and Hoover Angus Hoover Dam – Hoover Dam is the all-time semen sales bull ever at ORIgen. Semen and certificate sales grossed over $5.3 million. Although there are no official public records with which to compare, Dick Beck, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at ORIgen, says “Hoover Dam is the only sire in history owned exclusively by Angus breeders to have ever reached or surpassed that sales total”. Hoover Dam daughters are arguably optimum in many areas important to the commercial cattleman making a living from cattle. Hoover Dam has truly established a brand name reputation for calving ease, muscle, docility, and maternal strength.

is readily available to the newborn to provide energy to cope with the sudden change in the calf’s environment at birth. “Calves born to properly fed dams come equipped with this remarkable cold-coping mechanism,” Stokka says. The newborn calf’s ability to cope with cold weather means the calf needs to rise quickly after birth and find its food and life source through the dam’s colostrum. Colostrum is a form of milk that mammals produce in late pregnancy. It contains energy, protein, fat and vitamins, plus antibodies to protect newborns against disease until their own immune system is totally functional. Calving ease and excellent mothering ability are critical to the calf’s ability to stand and nurse quickly. In colder temperatures, calves born without some environmental protection or born to poor mothers with poor-quality colostrum will be at greater risk for infection from disease-causing pathogens. “These may be pathogens that cause calf scours or pathogens associated with respiratory disease,” Stokka says. “In either case, the pathogens are simply taking advantage of a calf with a compromised immune status.” To determine whether a calf has nursed, observe the dam’s udder and teats for evidence of nursing and feel the inside of the calf’s mouth. A calf with a cold mouth has not nursed and needs attention. Minimizing Disease Risks Stokka advises that if calving outside this winter, extra bedding is necessary as protection from the wind. However, cows delivering calves usually leave the herd and find secluded locations for giving birth, so producers need to be extra-diligent when looking for calves that are cold and slow to get up. These calves may need some type of additional heat source and supplemental colostrum. This may mean the newborns need to spend a few hours in a calf “hot” box or just in a warmer environment that’s out of the wind. FYI In some cases of severe hypothermia, dry heat may not work well enough and a warm-water bath is necessary. “However, supplemental heat alone will not be sufficient to warm a calf,” Stokka says. “The calf must receive colostrum.” The dam’s colostrum is optimal. The next best options are frozen stored colostrum or one of a number of commercial colostrum substitutes. The commercial colostrum substitutes by Gerlad Stokka need to contain a minimum of 100 grams of immunoglobulin NDSU Extension Veterinarian, • Livestock Steward Speicalist (IgG) per packet. IgG is an antibody absorbed through the calf’s small intestine and provides protection against disease-causing Heavy snowfall and dangerous wind chills have created pathogens. difficult-to-manage calving conditions this winter. Booster Winter’s heavy snowfall and dangerous wind chills can make doses, which are the second and third doses given within a calving conditions that are difficult to manage and put the defined time frame, may be important this year to prevent ears, feet and life of newborn calves at risk. However, calving respiratory disease during the summer and fall weaning season, indoors also has its drawbacks. Stokka says. n “When calving indoors, and with a number of animals producing heat and humidity, the temperature changes can produce poor air quality, leading to efficient transmission of potential pathogens and increasing the risk of neonatal calf diarrhea or pneumonia,” says Gerald Stokka, NDSU Extension veterinarian and livestock stewardship specialist. Newborn calves have two internal mechanisms to help them cope with cold weather. First, calves are able to shiver, which is the involuntary muscle movements designed to increase warmth by expending energy. The second mechanism is the nonshivering response that allows fat to be used to increase the calves’ metabolic rate by two to four times the resting rate to help them cope with colder temperatures. This special kind of fat is known as brown fat. It

Thank you for always listening to our prayers and staying close by our side even though we sometimes turn away from you and disappoint you with our choices. Talking with realtor and land professionals, I am hearing resounding echoes that the market is going to stay strong. Discussing futures with some economists they would indicate that we are setting ourselves up for a repeat of the 1980’s. This is not anything any of us want to hear! They are advising to get your houses in order and secure the low interest rates to prepare for the coming years. None of us have a crystal ball that would tell us the future but, I can tell you that the price of farmland has moved up quickly and I have not seen any signs of it going back down.

Looking at what has moved forward in the government, it looks like we will be keeping stepped up basis, they will not be taking our 1031, our capital gains rate will stay very similar, and being this is an election year I don’t think they will change much. This is positive news for farmers in Iowa. Results from the 293 Sales (31,813 acres) this last month have the average for the state at $11,688 high quality ground at $13,114/acre, and medium quality ground averaging $9,597/acre. Low quality ground has moved up at an average of $6,539/acre.

IOWA CATTLEMEN’S ASSOCIATION
ICA Welcomes Cattle Price Discovery and Transparency Act ORIGINAL NEWS RELEASE:
The Iowa Cattlemen’s Association is pleased to welcome the announcement of a cattle market reform compromise. “The provisions outlined in this legislation are based on feedback from the cattle industry, specifically taking into account testimonies shared by independent cattle producers at the Senate Agriculture Committee and Senate Judiciary Committee hearings this summer,” said ICA President-Elect Bob Noble. In brief, this legislation will enhance price discovery and transparency by: • Requiring packers to participate in the cash market on a plant-by-plant basis within each major cattle feeding region; • Creating a library of formula contracts; and • Expediting the report of average carcass weights to the public. “Maintaining a seat at the table with key decision makers is our primary responsibility as an association,” said ICA CEO Matt Deppe. “For several months, the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association has pursued a compromise between our elected officials. Setting aside differences and finding common ground, just as these leaders have done, will improve the state of the fed cattle market. We owe sincere thanks to Sen. Grassley and his team for remaining steadfast in the pursuit of a new bill.” In addition to the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association, the following groups have endorsed the bill: Iowa Farm Bureau, American Farm Bureau Federation, National Farmers Union, and U.S. Cattlemen’s Association.
UPDATE MADE ON NOVEMBER 18:
Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), Jon Tester (D-Mont.), and Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), with support from Sens. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Mike Braun (R-Ind.), Tina Smith (D-Minn.), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Bill Cassidy (R-La.) and Ben Ray Lujan (D-N.M.), formally introduced the Cattle Price Discovery and Transparency Act on November 17. Read the full Senate bill here: https://bit.ly/3kRV9kR Sen. Grassley’s statement: https://bit.ly/3kPjI1C Sen. Ernst’s statement: https://bit.ly/3cqS3Q5 Reps. Cindy Axne (IA-03) and Randy Feenstra (IA-04), with support from Reps. Ashley Hinson (IA-01), Mariannette MillerMeeks (IA-02), Vicky Hartzler (MO-04), and Jeff Fortenberry (NE01), also introduced the Cattle Price Discovery and Transparency Act on November 17. The House version of the bill is a companion of the Senate version.

Meghan Orr Joins Iowa Cattlemen’s Association The Iowa Cattlemen’s Association is pleased to welcome Meghan Orr to its staff. Meghan currently resides in Clermont, Iowa and will serve as Northeast Regional Membership Manager. She will also oversee the President’s Council. Meghan grew up on a farm in Clayton County with row crops, and beef and swine background. From there, she attended Iowa State University and studied agricultural business and international agriculture. After graduation, Meghan worked as a beef and swine nutritionist in northwest Iowa for about a year and a half. She then moved back to her hometown area and worked for Purina out of Farmers Union Coop as a beef and swine nutritionist for the last three years. In her free time, Meghan enjoys horseback riding, cheering on the Cyclones, and hanging out with family, friends and her dog, Earl. “I truly enjoy getting to work alongside the cattlemen of Iowa and hope to help each one of you continue your legacy in the beef industry,” says Meghan. “I am thankful to work with people who have such passion and integrity and appreciate the industry as much as I do. I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you and learning how I can best assist you moving forward.” You can reach Meghan at 563-880-6223 or meghan@ iacattlemen.org. January 2022

2022 Carcass Challenge Steers Delivered The Iowa Cattlemen’s Association (ICA) Carcass Challenge is the only fed-cattle competition in the state of Iowa. The 72 steers being fed as part of the 2022 Carcass Challenge were delivered to Sieren Beef, near Harper, Iowa, on November 9. These steers are being fed under-roof for the first time in program history.
Follow along in the Iowa Cattleman magazine and on ICA’s social media handles as the steers continue to grow and perform with a target harvest date in the end of April. The Carcass Challenge contest would not be possible without our generous sponsors: Elanco Animal Health, UltraInsights Processing Lab, Animal Health Center, Gregory Feedlots, Producers Livestock
Marketing Association, Hueber Feeds and Allflex. Thank you to the 2022 Carcass Challenge steer donors, listed below. If you have any questions about the Carcass Challenge program, please contact Jennifer Carrico at jennifer@iacattlemen. org.

As I write my article, we are in our basement waiting out a tornado warning. This is so strange in the middle of December; breaking temperature records and hitting 74 degrees in Iowa. One weatherman exclaimed, “We are living weather history!” Tucker’s room is in the basement and he is not impressed with Treva and me camping out in it. He cracks me up! He puts extra candy and food supplies in his desk and has been breaking into all of it. I’m pretty sure some of it has some age to it! The last granola bar consumed definitely did not get a high rating! Tucker and his FFA chapter have been super busy making the Union County Fairgrounds into a drive-thru light show. The chapter also bought some hams to donate to the local food pantry for the #GiveAHam promotion by the Iowa Pork Producers. Then they nominated other chapters Creston FFA at Fareway: Tyler Loudon, Tucker, to do the same. Morgan Driskell, Mallory Tallmon, Ella Powers Super proud of his passion and dedication to all things agriculture! Taylor has been making sure my van has plenty of miles on it by making the AAU Volleyball team and regular season basketball! I’m fairly confident I should have gotten a logistics degree in college! Sometimes I feel so burnt out, but if the kids are happy, its all worth it! My baby, Treva Gayle, just turned five! Treva is still not
verbally communicating but, believe me, she gets her point across!!! We have watched the newer Grinch cartoon about 100 times and its only the middle of December! Pretty sure we could all reenact the first 20 minutes of the movie. Trying to keep all of them motivated washing uniforms, making suppers, getting to doctor appts (girls), orthodontic appts (big Ts), speech therapy, running Treva to school parttime through the day, Taylor’s confirmation in a town 30 minutes from our school, proofreading papers, helping Treva work on speech, not to mention, Livestock Plus, keeps me busy!!! The other night when I was doing laundry I sat down on the carpet in front of the washer and dryer and ended up falling asleep. Does anyone else get so mentally and physically exhausted you just can’t go anymore? I want Christmas to be special for the kids and for me and Matt as well, but lately it feels like everything I touch is falling apart. Two parts of our prelit Christmas tree have burned out and we’ve not even had it a full year. Our table has so much clutter on it I haven’t even had a chance to get our Christmas tablecloth on. Sometimes the overwhelming feeling to get things right for the people around us gets so intense! I would love to hear your ways of decompressing and circling back to what is important! For me trying to connect with God each and every morning has gotten me through and redirected my thoughts to where they need to be … with God! Lately I’ve had to remind myself daily that God wants us to lean on Him, and the sooner I hand things over to Him, the better my my thoughts and reactions are to my family will be! May God bless each and every one of you, and our NEW YEAR! Please continue to keep our military and our nation in your thoughts and prayers. Let’s all take a moment to circle back to God! God Bless, Heidi Sorensen Rohrig 661-900-6004 heidi@livestockplusinc.com www.livestockplusinc.com
