Pride Night Returns to Citi Field Three years ago, the New York Mets partnered with the LGBT Network to become the first team in New York’s four major professional sports to host an official Pride Night for devout Mets fans in the LGBT community. It has quickly become a tradition as the LGBT Network and the New York Mets will once again host Pride Night at Citi Field as the Mets take on the Atlanta Braves, Saturday, August 4th. The 3rd Annual Pride Night at Citi Field will include festive pre-game programming before fans head inside, rainbow flags in-hand, to show their pride for the Mets, and their community. "Through all the victories and the many heartaches and defeats, I think the Mets really represent what social justice is all about. The Mets have always been an underdog. The Mets have really never been given a chance in many ways. So the Mets sometimes play second fiddle in New York to the other baseball team. The Mets represent really overcoming diversity, overcoming challenges, and I think that's how many of us in the LGBT community can relate to such a team that faces those challenges that we faced as a community." said LGBT Network President & CEO, David Kilmnick.

Hundreds of youth expected for 18th Annual LGBT Prom With the school year winding to a close, young adults across Long Island, and the nation, are preparing for their prom, a rite of passage they’ve been eagerly awaiting since autumn. Unfortunately, for many youth, that excitement is quickly dampened by the fear of bullying and harassment. For 17 years, the LGBT Network has hosted an LGBT prom for youth to enjoy a night of dinner & dancing with the date of their choice, allies, and peers without judgement. A prom to call their own. “A lot of people in my school don’t really accept me for who I am even though I’m pretty confident for being a trans man and gender-neutral person… Here there’s an atmosphere where I feel like I can be myself and I can be accepted. I can wear whatever I want and I can be whatever I want and people will accept me for my gender identity.” Says Ezra, a Syosset youth who regularly attends LGBT Network programming. This year, the LGBT Network expects a record number of youth to flood Crest Hollow Country Club for the Fairy Tale themed 18th Annual LGBT Prom on Wednesday, June 27th. The night includes dancing & dining, complete with mocktail hour, buffet dinner, dessert bar, and the crowing of this year’s Rainbow Court, a more inclusive adaptation of the traditional Prom King & Queen. LGBT Network President & CEO David Kilmnick said of the night, “It’s all about watching the kids just smile, laugh, dance, and just be happy and be themselves. That’s what life should be like all year round, but at least we’re going to give this one night to our kids so that they can enjoy this rite of passage that all teenagers should have.” Tickets for the 18th Annual LGBT Prom are available at lgbtnetwork.org/prom. Those who would like to sponsor a youth for this magical evening may do so at lgbtnetwork.org/sponsorayouth.
LGBT Network & Nassau Executive Curran Announce Theodore Roosevelt Dome Lighting and Tribute to Parkland Victims On May 21st, LGBT Network President & CEO David Kilmnick was joined by Nassau County Executive Laura Curran to announce Nassau County’s plans to celebrate Long Island Pride and to declare New York State’s largest tribute for those lost in the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. “We support Long Island Pride and the LGBT community and will fly the Pride Flag and, for the first time in Nassau County’s history, showcase a rainbow dome on the Theodore Roosevelt Executive & Legislative Building.” Said Curran. “Under the courageous and bold leadership of County Executive Laura Curran, Long Island is taking a huge leap forward in the visibility and support of its LGBT families in Nassau County,” said Kilmnick. “The lighting of the dome in rainbow colors and flying the Pride Flag is more than just a symbolic measure. It sends a loud and clear message that the closet door in local government that has kept LGBT people invisible for so long, is being torn down. A new Nassau has arrived, and it finally includes the voices, lives and experiences of LGBT people” On June 10th, 25 students and five school officials from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School will travel from Parkland, FL to serve as Grand Marshals of the 28th Annual Long Island Pride Parade. “The LGBT Network has been a voice for LGBT people, their families, and support systems of Long Island and Queens for 25 years and Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School’s showing of support is an important way to honor its history of pioneering advocacy and change,” said County Executive Curran. The students and teachers will also attend the LGBT Network’s annual memorial paddle-out honoring those lost in the tragic Florida shooting. The event will highlight the life of Long Island native Scott Beigel, who died saving his Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School students.

What To Do When Your Medical Diagnosis Is Inconclusive
When you have a clear-cut diagnosis, your course of action may seem clear. What happens, however, when your diagnosis is inconclusive? Living with an uncertain medical verdict can be extremely stressful, because you may have no way of knowing when you will get a more conclusive diagnosis. A recent study found that as many as 12 million people in the United States get an inconclusive—or faulty—diagnosis annually. Here are some steps to take after you have received an inconclusive diagnosis: Be proactive, not passive. Many patients assume that the medical practitioners who see them always know best, and that they are always in safe hands. Unfortunately, this isn’t always the case. By being an active, engaged, and informed patient, you can help to ensure that you get quality care. Seek out a second opinion. If your first diagnosis was inconclusive, it goes without saying that you should try again. Go to a different doctor for a second consultation. To ensure objectivity, it’s best to avoid telling this doctor what the first diagnosis was, at least until you have received the second opinion. Talk to your primary care physician. You should always start by seeing your usual doctor, who will have a better sense of your overall health than anyone else will. While your diagnosis may be made by a specialist, it’s still important to keep your primary care physician in the loop. Keep yourself informed. In today’s world, it’s easier than ever for patients to get educated about their health and get the accurate information they need to make smart choices. Always do your research before going to any medical practitioner so you’ll be better equipped to ask useful questions. If you are concerned about a misdiagnosis or possible medical error, contact the law firm of Pegalis & Erickson, LLC in New York. For 45 years, we have advocated for people of all ages, in order to help our clients financially and make healthcare safer for everyone. You can reach us today by calling (516) 858-2194.
