Point/Line/Plane This techtonic explores the dynamic effect of different lines. These lines are forming alive objects through different angles. As the images show, there are many types of views can be discovered in the three-dimensional space, some views only show lines or points. It is obvious that point, line, and plane are the basic elements in architecture. Thus, this model is showing these three elements in the same space with similar timber sticks, which can represent “line�as well. Meanwhile, some sticks went through foam boards to highlight dynamic effect of the whole object.

In this mass drawing, a number of cubes are connected together and forming a large underground space. At the same time, parts of the cubes are aboveground to give people a massive feeling before they get into the underground space. In order to enhance the massive feeling, some openings can allow natural light com into the underground and there will be a clear contrast of bright and dark. As the images show, this type of contrast can also highlight massive and solid feelings while people standing here. The overground part is considered as a cafe and entrance. Also, concrete is a type of materials, which is very suitable to create a massive feeling.

Frame/Infill This project is frame and infill and it is not very successful to a large extent. The reason for that is frames and infill are a little detached, and the infill is covered by frames instead of infilling the frames. HoweverďźŒI was trying to make each element functional, for example, the long cubes are used for walking and the small house can become a cafe.

1870 - 80 Quarry formed and stone used for local Richmond roads. Quarry now the Burnley Boat Harbour 1928 River channel cut through Richmond quarry to form an island. 1930 - 76 Levee banks formed and silt dumped over 'Como Island' 1950 - 60 Scouts occupy the island. In 1952, the island is renamed "Herring Island" after Sir Edmund Herring. 1970 Scouts leave Island. 1985 Herring Island Committee of Management - Management Plan developed over 5 years. 1993 Committee recommends Melbourne Water to take over. 1994 Herring Island becomes a Public Park. 1995 Herring Island development plan launched by Mark Birrell, the Minister for Conservation & Natural Resources. 1996 Friends commence revegetation and bird-box program. 1997 Herring Island is the site of Melbourne Festival's "Environmental Sculpture" Park.

3.0 Reflection Through the semester, I did learn a lot from designing and producing the small projects. More importantly, the key lesson that I learned was how to make the idea architectural and come to real life. Design should become a part of life, instead of staying in the mind. At the same time, a remarkable and creative idea can promote the final project to a new height, where I need to improve. The Herring Island project gave us a lot of space to develop our own design. It encourages us to explore the island by ourselves for selecting the site, and design the pavilion through rethinking our former projects, making the final model for the pavilion as well. Obviously, I am favourable to this type of project and this put emphasis on self-development, selfinvestigation in some ways. In other words, I become the architect for this project. Besides, I have been able to further my model making skills and architectural drawings, using Rhino, Ai or Ps expertly as well. However, I need to practice more to improve hand drawings. In conclusion, this is a useful and interesting subject, and I have learned a lot from it. I really appreciate the valuable and constructive suggestions that my tutor gave me, which are very helpful for my future design.
