Leaders Under 40 Awards Launch Party

Welcome

Welcome James Worrall Chief Executive Officer Leaders It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the BAFTA’s for the official launch of the Leaders Under 40 Awards in partnership with Aspire Academy. The sports industry is at a crucial stage of its development, with innovations, strategies and ideas now being driven by a younger generation of sports executives. We feel its time to acknowledge these achievements and that’s why we are committing significant time and resource to search for, evaluate and recognise the best talent in the business of sport globally. In doing so we hope the annual Leaders Under 40 Award will become one of the most

Ivan Bravo Director General Aspire Academy At Aspire Academy we believe that sports is one of the most rewarding journeys to pursue in life. It does not matter if you are the athlete, the fan or a professional in the fields of sports management, marketing, or media. Sport allows us to flourish as individuals through competitive and business oriented challenges, to push ourselves to reach and overcome our suspected limits.

prestigious awards to win for any aspiring leader in sport. The first official Leaders Under 40 Awards Dinner will take place this time next year when we will unveil our inaugural winners. At the same time we will recognise one inspirational leader in sport, someone who has, in many respects, inspired those younger recipients. But for now I hope you enjoy some exquisite food, fine wine and first class entertainment in this historic venue with other leaders as we look ahead to an exciting year in sport. We have assembled a really exciting panel of judges made up of some of the most inspiring senior executives from across the global sports industry. Don’t forget that you will be able to nominate individuals from your organisations from tomorrow.

For all the passion, commitment and abilities that are needed to contribute to the industry and help it grow, on the pitch and as a business, there are always a group of individuals who pursue the prospect of becoming leaders in their field (as we say at Aspire, Champions in Sport) with more determination than their peers. It takes a great deal of hard work and intrinsic talent, of generosity and teamwork, and of course little bit of support and encouragement from equally supportive mentors who believe in the potential of tomorrow’s senior leaders. This is why we are elated to be the coorganising partner of The Leaders U40 Awards.

Reaching for Gold ‘ASPIRE is a new sporting landmark in Qatar. Where once was a desert, there now stands a structure to support the dreams of aspiring athletes and the community as a whole. It began as a vision, a true centre of excellence in academics and sport, firmly placing Qatar on the sporting map of the world’ During the inaugural speech at the opening of the ASPIRE Academy, the Emir’s son, His Highness Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani, described the academy’s national importance As an artist, I am considered young at 40, but as an athlete I would be nearing the end of my career. However, when that magical moment comes, when everything clicks together and the constant training and suffering pays off and you win, then for a moment, which lasts a lifetime, you truly feel on top of the world.’ - Lorenzo Quinn, 2005

Quinn created a sculpture for Leaders Under 40 Awards to depict striving for excellence. Reaching for Gold is a pyramid of three arms emerging from a base of sand, the hands straining towards a medal.
