What is the Write Way?
The Write Way
Here at The Write Way we think that there’s nothing more exciting than receiving a letter of secrets and stories and interesting facts in the post. Think how exciting it would be to have your own pen pal in a place you had never visited or heard of before. It’s like a present from someone else’s life and the best part is that it doesn’t involve being sat at a computer and all you need to get started is a piece of paper and a pen, then from there it’s up to you. Some people become life long friends from writing to a pen pal and think of all the fun stories you’ll have to share and hear.

Being a Pen Pal
How to be a good penpal.

1.
When you’re writing, whether it’s to someone who lives just a few miles away or to a person halfway around the world, always be kind and friendly.
2.
Tell them all about you, and ask them questions about themselves, perhaps what it’s like where they live? This way you can understand them more, and learn a few fun facts about your friend!
3.
Try and answer all the questions they ask. It might help to go back to the letter they sent you so you can remember what they told you and what they want to know.
4.
Even if your Penpal is close to you don’t expect them to write back to you straight away. They may have lots of things to do before they can get time to write back to you and of course, if your penpal’s in a different country, their letter will take longer to get to you.
5.
You don’t have to stop at a sending your Penpal a letter. Why not include a drawing that you’ve done or a photo of your family or your pet.
6.
You don’t always have to write a lot. The first letter you send doesn’t need to be too long. Say a little bit about yourself to give your new pen pal something to talk about in their next letter.
7.
Tell them about what you enjoy. You can write about hobbies or activities that are your favorites.
8.
Tell them why you’re excited to have a Penpal. Would you like to learn about where they live? Are you excited to learn about a different culture?
9.
End the letter with a friendly sentence such as “I’m looking forward to getting to know you better and I hope to hear from you soon.”
10.
Make sure your Penpal can read your writing. It’s always good to practise writing neatly and if your words are really messy your Penpal might not understand what you are telling them about.
11.
Don’t be afraid to decorate your letter with drawings or stickers if you want to and send it in an interesting envelope.
