Outreach events include an Open Studio for local area artists each Friday morning at the Art Education Center. There is also an annual community outreach, Kids’ Art Day, which includes a poster art contest. The gallery sponsors weekly art classes for inmates at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail. Info-Line 2013 is a non-profit organization and primarily volunteer-operated. Members give their time generously to manage Gallery business and to run the many programs it offers. Membership fees, art sales, and class fees help support the Gallery. Major exhibitions open monthly. Admission to the Gallery is Free and Open to the Public, Tuesdays through Sundays, 11 AM to 5 PM. English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes are also offered. A variety of class dates and times are available for the FREE GED® classes, FREE ESOL classes, and FREE Assessments. For 2010-11, the W-JCC GED® Testing Center received an award for having the second highest pass rate in the State. American Cancer Society Information and Referral 1-800-ACS-2345 Website: www.cancer.org The American Cancer information center is a national toll-free hotline, located in Austin, Texas. Operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Answer questions about cancer and cancer related topics. Information available on specific cancers and their treatment, detection, prevention, alternative methods and community resources. Information is also available in Spanish. Other programs: AirLifeLine - Volunteer pilots who donate their time, skills, aircraft and pay for all costs involved to transport patients who are ambulatory and medically stable as no medical supervision is provided. Patients may travel as many times as necessary to complete treatment. Locations Vary, Pilots will use the closest airstrip to the patient’s residence. Wigs -New wigs available for cancer patients. Calling the local Peninsula Office at 591-8330. Man to Man - Education support program for men with prostate cancer and their personal support team. Let’s Talk About It - Encouragement and support to African American men ages 40 years and older to get prostate screenings and talk comfortably with their healthcare provider about prostate health. In the first hour and a half students take our famous fine art lesson and in the second half they get to explore a variety of media from painting to sculpting.
