As one of Thomson’s best gift shops, it offers a wide variety of gift items, jewelry and apparel for women, men and children. Some of the lines represented in The Luckey Charm are Southern Marsh, Peach State Pride, Jadelynn Brooke, Simply

Southern, Mudpie, Spartina, Woodwick Candles, Lauren James, Lilly Pulitzer and Betsy Pittard Designs. “Everything that is good in my life comes from God!” Strong said her students inspire her to give her best everyday. She added that she works with an amazing group of educators who are dedicated and work tirelessly to achieve success.

Allen is Best Teacher

Sherry Allen, of Briarwood Academy, has been chosen as Best Teacher, tying with Sonya Strong and Tina Swann at Thomson High School. “This is my fourth year teaching third grade at Briarwood Academy. Before Briarwood, I served 30 years in public education as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, and administrator. At Briarwood, I'm extremely fortunate to work with two supportive administrators, Mr. Clayton Parrish and Mr. Brinkley Bradshaw, and a dedicated staff,” Allen said. Briarwood Academy was founded in 1970 at 4859 Thomson Highway, Warrenton, Georgia. It serves grades prekindergarten through 12th. Highly qualified faculty and staff work as a team providing its 347 students with an educational experience that allows maximum achievement in scholastic, social, moral and spiritual growth. “I’m proud to be a part of the Briarwood family,” Allen said. “I love teaching and am thankful for the opportunity to teach in such a warm and inviting work place. I’m even prouder to be recognized as a recipient of

this honorable award. I think the open-ended selection process, giving readers the opportunity to fill in ANY name, speaks of a business’ or an individual’s past. I entered this profession to make a difference in children’s lives. I think teachers differ in two ways; some teach the curriculum, and others teach children. By teaching children, one must build a relationship with each student that is built on trust, love and belief. The key to success in my profession is to treat each student like he or she was your own child. If only the best is good enough for one’s biological children, then it is the standard one must use in teaching the children of others.”

“I am also fortunate to have leaders who are supportive, Mrs. Shelton, Mrs. Barnett, Mr. Dunn and Dr. Rhodes,” Strong said. “I am honored to serve my community as a teacher and I am so grateful to my community members for their support. And, last

but definitely not least, I want to thank my children, husband and family for their unconditional love. Thank you McDuffie Progress for recognizing educators. Thank you McDuffie County!”
