MYSTERY SOLVED:

MAC RECAP

The Membership Awareness Conference (MAC) was a success. While it was a little bit cold, people had a really great time! It was so much fun to see all of the familiar faces again, and especially fun meeting all of the new folk! It will certainly be a MAC for the books, and I know I personally am looking forward to many more great ideas and MAC’s in the future. In all, you could say that we solved the mystery of MAC. KEY CLUB UPDATE:

KEY LEADER The weekend of September 14, 2018, I attended Key Leader at Camp Wawbeek in the Wisconsin Dells. The attendees consisted of Key Clubbers and high schoolers that were not part of Key Club. It was a fun weekend of bonding and learning about leadership skills. Our facilitator was Chris Niles, who traveled all the way from Pennsylvania. The program is set up so that we dig into the five qualities that make a Key Leader: integrity, growth, respect, community, and excellence. We would listen to Chris speak on these topics and then we would talk with each other, relating these subjects to our lives. Since I was a Student Facilitator, I had to monitor my “neighborhood, which was made up of five other students. On Friday night, each neighborhood had to make its own creative name, a chant, and a logo. It did not take long for the whole group to become close.

One of my favorite activities was the ropes course, which required teamwork. We played a game called Mohawk Walk, where four students acted as trees and supported the others who had to walk on multiple tightropes without any other assistance. Despite the mosquito problem, it was bittersweet to go home. We made new friends and got to hang out with old friends. We learned things about ourselves that didn’t even occur to us before this weekend. I will never forget this wonderful time of my life and I cannot wait for next year’s Key Leader! If you’re interested in learning more about WIUM Key Club, I recently released the second issue of our District publication, the Key to Caring. Additionally, we also have a website. TRICK-OR-TREAT FOR UNICEF AND WASH The Trick-or-Treat for the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) program reoccurs every October and is well known throughout CKI. Resources are provided for CKI members to go door-to-door on Halloween with collection boxes to fundraise for UNICEF. All funds raised by CKI go towards the WASH project. WASH is the collective term for Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene. WASH aims to provide education, awareness, and funding to supply clean drinking water and sanitation education to schools and children in underdeveloped regions. Our signature project efforts target Haiti’s emergency needs with a complete WASH response package, supporting emergency water access interventions for people in drought-affected areas, and providing internally displaced people with alternative sustainable sanitation strategies. OUT OF THE PARK:

KFBG RECAP On September 30th, Kiwanis family members gathered at Miller Park to cheer on the Milwaukee Brewers in what was supposed to be the last game of the regular season. Going into this game, the Brewers were tied with the Cubs for the division title. The Brewers played well against the Detroit Tigers and won 11-0. Aguilar had three RBIs and Braun was the start to a six-run seventh inning with a tworun double. Kiwanis Family members enjoyed screaming and cheering the Brewers on as the team attempted to win the NL Central Division and go to playoffs. Everyone had a good time and it was exciting to see old friends and K-family members we don’t see all the time. By Deann Davidson

Letter from the Editor Happy Holidays! The holiday season is fast approaching, which means a few things. First of all, it means we have a few breaks coming up. I don’t know about you but I am definitely looking forward to relaxing for a few days before getting back to classes. Secondly, it means final exams will be happening, which I’m looking forward to much less. Amid all of the hectic hustle and bustle of these next few months, please keep those who are less fortunate in mind. There are many individuals and families out there who could use our support this holiday season. Remember that donating money, clothes, or food items to those in need is a great way to serve and help improve somebody else’s holidays. I want to thank everybody who contributed articles and information to this issue of the Circle of Sharing. Without all of you, this bulletin would not have been nearly as great as it is. I would also like to give a special shout-out to Justice Moore, the WIUM Key Club District Bulletin Editor, for her addition to this issue. You can check out her fantastic article starting on page 10. Until next time! Yours in Service,

Luke Muller
