YMCA OF LINCOLN TO HOST THIRD ANNUAL WINTER COAT DRIVE FOR PEOPLE’S CITY MISSION

Winter weather in Nebraska can bring hardships to the homeless, but this year the YMCA of Lincoln is once again stepping in to bring some warmth and relief from the cold to those who need it most. During the month of October, all four Lincoln YMCA locations will be participating in a winter coat drive to benefit the People’s City Mission. In just two years, over 6,000 coats have been collected thanks to the generosity of YMCA members and the Lincoln community at large. Community members who make a donation at a YMCA branch will receive a free pass to “Try the Y” for one week, valid through the end of the year. Current YMCA members donating coats will have a chance to win a free Y Membership for 2024. “The Y has had a long tradition of helping children and families, and this coat drive is an extension of our mission to help those in the community,” shared Renee Yost, President & CEO of the Lincoln YMCA. “As an organization, we’re thrilled to once again partner with the People’s City Mission to meet a critical need for Lincoln’s homeless and impoverished.”

With over 250 guests currently staying at the mission, those numbers could climb to 400 in the colder months.

The drive will take place October 1-21, with a kick-off coat distribution at the People’s City Mission Help Center starting at 9:00am on Thursday, November 2. Donations can be dropped off at any YMCA of Lincoln location or participating organization.

YMCA Camp Kitaki Halloween Camps

October 13-14, 14-15, 20-21, 21-22

Halloween campers, get ready for spooky fun! Bring a costume for our costume dance, listen to stories from a professional storyteller, carve a pumpkin, hunt ghouls, and so much more! This campout is a great introduction to camp programs and a wonderful way to enjoy Halloween themed activities in a positive atmosphere. There will even be some spooky activities for those who are brave enough!!

YMCA Camp Kitaki Halloween Hike

Join us at Camp Kitaki for a fun outdoor experience for the whole family! We’ll have games and activities set up around camp on a hike that takes you around the camp property. Activities include trick or treating, carnival style games, yard games, playing in our natural play area, and more!

YMCA OUT OF SCHOOL DAYS

Out of School Days is a licensed child care program offered at the Cooper, Copple Family, Fallbrook, and Northeast YMCA locations on some Lincoln Public Schools non-school days for youth in Kindergarten through age 13.

Registration is open for Fall Youth Programs at the Y! Sign up for Swim Lessons, Gymnastics, Jr. Chefs, Homeschool Gym, and more. The next session runs October 16 - November 19!

Due to mechanical repairs taking place in the pool area, Swim Lessons will not be available at the Fallbrook YMCA for the fall session. Please look at our other three branches for availability.

Players from our YMCA Youth Sports Jr. Huskers Flag Football program got a surprise visit from the BIG Husker Football players! What a special and fun treat for these kids. GBR!

Thank you to Commonwealth Electric Company of the Midwest for donating new bicycles, helmets, and locks to students at Pershing Elementary–one of our Community Learning Center sites! Because of their generosity, 18 bikes were given to children that would not otherwise have them.
