The Lobero Theatre Foundation: Building a Legacy
Mission The mission of the Lobero Theatre Foundation is to operate and maintain the historic Lobero Theatre as a performing arts center and cultural asset to the community, and to present the highest quality productions in music, dance and theatre.
What Does the Lobero Theatre Foundation Do? Your Community’s Theatre
Lobero LIVE
The Lobero is home to many of Santa Barbara’s best local performing arts, including the Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra, Music Academy of the West, Sings Like Hell, Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Santa Barbara Choral Society and more. The Lobero Theatre Foundation is committed to ensuring that the theatre has state of the art equipment and a professional and efficient stage crew, ensuring that local organizations receive outstanding service and can focus on making great art. Rental dates, both local and touring, make up approximately 85% of the theatre’s activity and 41% of our annual budget.
Another 15% of the theatre’s activity is our Lobero LIVE series, world-class touring artists presented by the Lobero Theatre Foundation. With 20-25 performances per year, we bring the best of music, dance, comedy and family entertainment to the Lobero stage. We are especially focused on jazz and American roots music. We have more than 15 years of jazz presenting under our belt, and have been named 5 times as one of Downbeat Magazine’s top jazz venues in the world. From jazz legends like Dave Brubeck, Pat Metheny and Charles Lloyd to the next generation of greats like Esperanza Spalding, the Bad Plus and Julian Lage, the Lobero has become a true performance destination for artists from around the world.
Resources and Management The Lobero Theatre Foundation has a track record of earning approximately 60% of our annual income, and nearly 15 years of balanced budgets. The Board has a strategic plan to build on this foundation of fiscal stability to ensure the theatre is a resource for Santa Barbara in perpetuity. Those strategies include a strong cash reserve for years when the economy

presents unforeseen challenges, a robust endowment focused on sustaining all of the performance genres on the Lobero stage, and a staff retention and succession plan to provide the leadership needed to ensure that artists and local arts organizations experience artistic success.
How you can help The Lobero Theatre Foundation was established as a 501c3 non-profit organization in 1938 to act as stewards for, and to raise funds to maintain and operate an important historic institution. We are responsible managers of that trust, and make up our budget with nearly 60% earned income. For the other 40%, we ask for your partnership. Those who love the theatre, attend its performances, and care about preserving its unique history are our best resource for ensuring that the Lobero Theatre remains a vibrant center for performing arts.
Please consider making a commitment to the Lobero Theatre Foundation today. Here’s how you can help: s
If you’re passionate about jazz and American roots music, make a contribution to the Brubeck Circle to support outstanding performances and ongoing jazz music education in local schools.
s
To make sure the Lobero remains an accessible stage and venue for young artists and low-income individuals, designate your gift to Youth & Community Outreach.
s
A gift to our Lobero Fund supports all the great work that happens at the theatre, from outreach to performances to preservation of an important historic building.
s
Consider naming the Lobero in your Estate Plan. A Legacy gift can be designated to one of our performance pillars (American Roots, Dance, Theatre, Classical Music or Youth Performances), or to the ongoing preservation of the iconic Lobero Theatre. We are happy to provide recognition during your lifetime with notification of your irrevocable planned gift.

“The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit.” – Nelson Henderson
President’s Message I am now beginning my last year of a three-year term as Lobero Board President. It has been a remarkable time for the Lobero. Last year we completed nearly 20 years’ worth of capital improvements and upgrades to prepare the theatre for decades of live performances to come. A recent capital reserve study will ensure that future technical and maintenance issues are addressed early in order to keep the theatre looking and functioning at its best. This is the community’s stage, and the Board is committed to ensuring that it remains a cornerstone for Santa Barbara’s performing arts. As we reflect on the accomplishments of the past year, we are proud to share with you in this Annual Report the ways in which the Lobero serves our Santa Barbara community. It is a community stage in every sense of the word, home to local arts organizations and the first stage for hundreds of our youth.
I believe the most critical step taken in the past two years was a strategic plan focusing on securing the long-term financial stability of the Lobero. The best way that we can accomplish this goal is through a strong and growing endowment. At present, the Lobero receives only about two percent of its annual operating budget from our endowment, placing considerable emphasis on annual fundraising. We know our community has the capacity to help build the endowment and we plan to focus on outreach to our donor base to build it through planned giving. I hope as you read this report, you will remember what the Lobero has meant to you and your family, and that you will continue your support of this historic community asset. Sincerely,
Jeff DeVine Lobero Board President
Youth and Community Outreach The Board and staff of the Lobero believe that the arts can be a catalyst for positive change, and should be accessible to the entire community. We reach out to local students, families and senior citizens with free programs that offer music education and live performance experiences. These are opportunities for children to learn new talents and gain valuable self-esteem; for families to share an afternoon of bonding; for seniors to get out and socialize with their broader community. The arts are more than just window dressing. Participation in these programs gives children necessary tools for future success in all aspects of life: creativity and problem solving, confidence, greater focus and dedication, and the ability to collaborate with and learn from their peers. It also inspires children to continue pursuing the arts throughout their education, and in some cases throughout their careers. Experiencing a live performance, sharing that energy with hundreds of other individuals inspires and lifts up the spirit. It is an opportunity that all of our citizens should be able to enjoy.
Our programs include: s After-school residencies by Santa Barbara Vocal Jazz Foundation, culminating in a performance on the Lobero stage s Performance subsidies for youth arts education organizations like Santa Barbara Youth Symphony, Santa Barbara Youth Ensemble Theatre, Gustafson Dance, Jensen’s Rock Camp and New Noise’s Battle of the Bands s 200 tickets for children and their families to attend It’s Magic!, complete with a pizza and ice cream social s Community ticketing for a wide variety of Lobero LIVE events distributed through senior living communities, social service agencies and high school/college music programs
LOBERO ASSOCIATES
The Lobero’s Youth Programs are made possible through the generosity of the following donors: Montecito Bank & Trust, Union Bank, Santa Barbara Bowl Foundation Education Outreach Committee, and the Lobero Theatre Associates. SBVJF’s residencies are funded in part by the Community Arts Grant program, using funds provided by the City of Santa Barbara in partnership with the Santa Barbara County Arts Commission.
about the artist
Meredith Brooks Abbott To meet artist Meredith Brooks Abbott at her rural Carpinteria ranch is to step into one of her soothing and harmonic canvases. Time slows and vision softens at the view of her meandering gardens blending seamlessly into the natural vegetation of the surrounding Carpinteria Valley. A hopelessly romantic white Victorian farmhouse dating to the 1870‘s sits in the shade of a large oak tree. With Freddie, her sweet Labradoodle (and tennis ball) in tow, we head into her charming studio where canvases are perched in varying stages of completion and the quiet afternoon light streams in through high windows that run the length of the space. A self-portrait of Richard Meryman, family friend and noted American Impressionist and portrait painter, shares counter space with old photographs, portraits of her own children and pets, bits of nostalgia and the paintbrushes of Lockwood de Forest, California plein air painter.
day, preferring to paint outdoors in the same plein air style of her predecessors. She has also just completed her second solo show at Sullivan Goss Gallery. Aside from her daily painting practice and weekly drawing classes, her life is full with her almost 50-year marriage to Duncan, four adult children, seven grandchildren, tennis games, and gardening.
Whether painting the Matilija Poppies, Goleta Slough, or the historic Lobero Theatre, she still challenges herself to see things differently. She cherishes the times she is able to paint alongside her daughter Whitney and granddaughter Gwen. Most importantly, she is still celebrating, documenting, and preserving the beauty and goodness of Santa Barbara through her landscape, architecture and still life art. As we continue to appreciate our beloved Lobero Theatre and the music that is created and shared inside its historic walls, we also give a nod of appreciation and gratitude to Meredith Brooks Abbott, another Santa Barbara treasure, who has once again highlighted the beauty and history of this lovely theater in our special town. True harmony! *Our thanks to Mary Blair for contiributing this wonderful proďŹ le.

Artists and Fans Agree I’m always happy to hear that artists love the Lobero as much as we do. It was great traveling back through all the photos of Jazz artists over the last 15 years to see that many of them have terrific things to say about the Lobero Theatre. (pg 22-23) When I get to speak with these talented artists backstage about how much they’ve enjoyed their experience and how they’d love to return, it reminds me of all the reasons we’ve decided to dedicate ourselves to this theatre. We at the Lobero Theatre Foundation, including our volunteer board of directors, work hard behind the scenes so that

kids get up onstage and realize their dreams, then you can support our vibrant youth programs. You can leave your mark by naming a seat in our auditorium, or leave a lasting impression by contributing to the Lobero’s Endowment fund. If you would rather roll up your sleeves and spend your time to support the theatre, then maybe you should consider volunteering as an usher, or becoming a Lobero Theatre Associate. As we get ready to raise the curtain on another season, just look at all the amazing events coming up. We’re looking forward to the return of the LOL Comedy Festival, another insightful evening with Pico Iyer, a benefit event with Michael McDonald, and new and inspiring seasons from CAMA’s Masterseries
There are so many facets to this great organization, and BACKSTAGE works to spotlight them all in each issue. Start by perusing the annual report, and then read on about all the people and programs that make the Lobero sing. musicians, dancers, actors, technicians and promoters can put on the best shows possible. We try our best to deliver an experience for those who attend and those who perform. Now, with a couple of post-renovation seasons under our belt, we are back to doing our best work, which is supporting the work onstage. We still need help from you–our patrons, supporters and friends–to guarantee we can achieve our mission to preserve and maintain the Lobero Theatre and facilitate the finest in the performing arts. I can guarantee that there is a way to support the Lobero that will line up with something that you’re passionate about. If you have an ear or an interest in jazz, become a Brubeck Circle member. If you want to keep seeing
and the Santa Barbara Chamber Orhestra. Plus, Lobero LIVE is thrilled to be presenting Jim Messina, The Milk Carton Kids, Dorado Schmitt and Tierney Sutton – all return performances. In fact, many of the performers you’ll see this fall return again and again to this honored hall. (Just as we hope you will too.) Don’t be a stranger,

YOU INSPIRE US. Deckers Brands admires and supports the Lobero Theatre for all of the magic that you bring to this community.
welcome new board members Laurie Bentson Kauth Laurie Bentson Kauth hails from a strong lineage of arts philanthropists and supporters. Originally from Saint Paul, Minnesota, her grandfather, Edmond Ruben, owned the historic Pantages Theatre in Minneapolis, and instilled a love of theater. Laurie’s family–also major supporters of the arts–established the Ruben/Bentson Film and Video Study Collection at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis to further the appreciation and scholarly study of the art of film.
Ben Trosky The Lobero Theatre Foundation is happy to welcome Ben Trosky to the board this season. Mr. Trosky has an extensive background in finance, and is currently a principal and Chief Investment Officer of Seaport Investment Management–a firm he formed in April 2014. Prior to this, Mr. Trosky managed Tripolay Investment Partners, which he founded after retiring as a Managing Director from Pacific Investment Management Company (PIMCO) in 2003. He served in a number of executive roles at PIMCO, including Founder and Portfolio Manager of PIMCO’s High Yield Fund, a senior member of PIMCO’s Investment Committee, Head of PIMCO Credit Research, Chief Credit Specialist for PIMCO Total Return portfolios and Portfolio Manager for PIMCO Commercial Mortgage Closed-End Fund, among others. “I chose to support the Lobero because of the wide variety of live performances that the theater offers–from magic to local dance and a wide range of music. We also love the intimate nature and landmark status.” Ben is a self-proclaimed fan of a broad range of music from classical to the Grateful Dead. Be sure to keep an eye out for Ben and his wife Cheryl at a wide variety of events this season!
Since moving to Santa Barbara to pursue her BA from University of California Santa Barbara, Laurie has worked as the Music Director at the radio station KTYD. She has continued the tradition of philanthropic giving by supporting a number of local arts causes, including the Santa Barbara International Film Festival/Mike’s Field Trip to the Movies, the Notes for Notes program through the Santa Barbara Bowl, and the Lobero Theatre’s Sings Like Hell program. When asked about her favorite performance at the Lobero, Laurie pauses before responding, “There have been so many memorable events at the beautiful Lobero that it is very difficult to pick just one favorite, so I pick two: T-Bone Burnett and Charles Lloyd, mostly for the same reasons. They are both legends and amazing artists, but I had never seen either one live. To sit right in front of them, something that doesn’t happen in larger venues, and watch them play was incredible!” Beyond the Lobero, Laurie is also busy serving as the President of the Board of the Bentson Foundation, on the Dean’s Advisory Council for the College of Arts and Sciences at NYU, as well as sitting on the board of the Santa Barbara Summer Solstice Celebration. Her husband Bill Kauth is a former Marine Biology teacher at Santa Barbara High School. They split their time between Santa Barbara and New Orleans, where their daughter Kim studies at Tulane Law.

Steve Cloud On Sunday, May 3 at an invitation-only dinner at Birnam Wood, Steve Cloud was presented with the BRAVO! Award. This honor came from the Board of Directors of the Community Arts Music Association (CAMA). For 95 years, CAMA has brought world-class orchestras to Santa Barbara, beginning with the Los Angeles Symphony Orchestra in 1920. In 1982 they began their Masterseries of solo and smallgroup classical performances, hosted exclusively at the Lobero since 1988. Steve plays a big role in bringing these orchestras and artists to our fair city.
“Steve has been incredibly generous in sharing his years of knowledge with me and with the Lobero. That’s a huge gift to the theatre and I’m grateful to have him as a mentor.” - David Asbell
After a welcome by CAMA President Andre Saltoun, Herb Kendall spoke admiringly of Steve’s long commitment to, and many accomplishments on behalf of CAMA. Originally hired by Herb, Steve has been responsible for arranging CAMA’s extraordinary concert programs for the past 20 years. Mark Trueblood, CAMA’s Executive Director and an associate of Steve’s since their college years at UCSB, was also delighted to honor Steve. Mark offered his deep appreciation for Steve’s musical and business acumen, noting that his contributions have raised CAMA’s profile and increased the financial health of the organization. Steve also served on the Board of the Santa Barbara Bowl for many years, and has been a member of the Lobero Board since 1980. He has a long and storied career as a music promoter, and has used his connections and experience to bring an incredible array of artists to perform at nearly every venue in Santa Barbara. During his 35 years on the Lobero Board, he has been instrumental in booking Lobero LIVE presentations, including the establishment of the Jazz at the Lobero series 15 years ago. “Steve and I collaborate on nearly every event that the Lobero Theatre Foundation presents. His fingerprints are all over our programming,” says Executive Director David Asbell. When he isn’t performing hero duty for local non-profit arts organizations, Steve is touring the world as manager for legendary jazz pianist Keith Jarrett.

A Global Corporation with Deep Local Roots With a 42-year history in Santa Barbara, Deckers Outdoor Corporation has grown into a major local employer. At a time when other large companies are moving headquarters to lower-cost states and counties, Deckers has continued to expand its commitment to the Santa Barbara community. We spoke with Deckers Chief Human Resources Officer (and Lobero Board member) Graciela Montgomery about the company’s dedication to the central coast. Deckers was founded by UCSB grad Doug Otto. It seems like Santa Barbara itself was a key player in establishing his brand philosophy. Does that hold true today? Santa Barbara will always be home for Deckers Brands. While we are a multi-national company and we continue to grow globally, Santa Barbara will always be important to us. It’s where we started, and it has helped shape our company into what it is today. You are yourself a Santa Barbara native. It must have been great to be able to return to your hometown to work with such a great company. I feel fortunate returning here after living and working in so many different places. Now that I’ve returned to Santa Barbara, I’m profoundly aware of the fact that you can’t recreate this anywhere. What we have here is incredibly special, on so many levels. Since going public in 1993, Deckers has grown by leaps and bounds, acquiring and elevating the profile of a number of national and international footwear brands. The company
has also come forward as a major sponsor for many local nonprofits. What role does philanthropy play in the culture of Deckers Brands? Giving back is a core belief at Deckers Brands. It is part of our culture and values, and we have philanthropic efforts in every community that our employees live and work in. We feel privileged to be able to partner with so many important organizations and several of our employees sit on boards of nonprofit organizations in Santa Barbara. Living and working in this community is a privilege and we are honored to be able to give back. What drew Deckers to become a corporate sponsor of the Lobero? The Lobero Theatre is a cultural asset to the Santa Barbara community, presenting the highest quality productions in music, dance, and theatre. As a company that embodies creativity and innovation, we want to ensure that our community’s arts and culture thrive, so we are proud to be a corporate sponsor of the Lobero. Deckers has a reputation as a great employer. What are the company’s key strategies for creating a satisfying and motivating work environment? Deckers prides itself on being a great place to work. We have a unique culture where our employees are passionate about their work, and in turn we attract employees who mirror that culture. Our employees are invested in their communities and they care that Deckers cares.
The Lobero is proud to count Deckers as a long-time partner in bringing the best performing arts to Santa Barbara.

Janet Shotwell and Doug Okun review Emergency protocol
We are so lucky to have amazing individuals in our community who choose to volunteer their time at the Lobero as ushers, interns, board members and Associates. Their love for our community and the arts is clear, and their hard work this past year has been very inspiring. In particular, I’d like to thank Luis Asencio, a senior at Santa Barbara High School, who has helped tremendously behind the scenes in our office for the past year. Luis, it’s been a privilege working with you, and thank you for a job well done. I’d also like to offer our condolences to the family of our beloved volunteer and community member, Ms. Berta Jones. We will miss you! The Lobero’s Usher Reward Program got off to a great start. With so many hardworking and well-deserving ushers, it made my job of choosing just one Usher of the Month very challenging. In April, our ushers participated in our bi-annual Emergency Drill training, focusing on procedures for evacuation during an emergency. Sweeney Todd: An Exploration by Adam Barruch Dance The seed was planted back at the Julliard Dance Department. Adam Barruch never thought his tongue-incheek solo dance set to “The Worst Pies in London” would lead to meeting with Stephen Sondheim himself to discuss creating an original Dance Theater adaptation of the classic and cruel tale of revenge. During a visit to Santa Barbara in the spring of 2015, Adam recounts the genesis of this burgeoning work: “I went into the studio alone and set up a video camera and put on “Worst Pies.” Having forgotten my props, I thought, “Let me at least start improvising, and for now I will mime what I don’t have.” And then I watched the footage and laughed hysterically. I thought, “Oh my god, this is really funny. I’ve just accidentally created a Charlie Chaplin/Marcel Marceau take on Angela Lansbury in Sweeney Todd.” Fast forward a few years to an online exchange with Stephen Sondheim himself, and Adam’s future was set. Sondheim agreed to secure the rights to the work-in-progress. In September 2015, Adam Barruch Dance will be the DANCEworks company-in-residence at the Lobero Theatre, beginning work on a Dance Theater interpretation of selections from Stephen Sondheim’s masterpiece, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Adam explains how movement will be utilized to accentuate the brilliant dynamics of Sondheim’s score. Through gestural and emotionally charged language, the audience will be taken deeper into the psychological realms of these complex and iconic characters. Mentored by acclaimed Canadian artist, Margie Gillis, Adam will work with a company of six performers to begin the process of discovering the corporeal language that will serve as a blueprint for an eventual full-scale production of the acclaimed musical. The residency will mainly focus on the first act, which sets up the backstory for each character–ripe for mining movement and dance. The new work will feature several members of the Santa Barbara dance and theater communities as well. On September 25 & 26–at the end of the four-week residency– there will be two preview performances of the musical sequences, alongside other repertory by the company. Don’t miss the exciting first look at Adam Barruch’s thrilling and chilling take on Sweeney Todd!

what you should know about Architect
Jeff Shelton Jeff Shelton has been called “Santa Barbara’s Architectural Wizard,” conjuring up whimsical buildings that evoke Spain’s famous Gaudi, and bring a fun artistic sensibility to downtown. He’s also the man who designed the Lobero’s Moorish style tent that has been providing shelter for many a pre- or post-show gathering. This summer, the Lobero Theatre Foundation has begun work with Mr. Shelton on a new summer tent intended to provide shade for the space when the sun is blazing.*
Do you work with any other performing arts groups or venues in Santa Barbara? The Lobero is the only one. I don’t have a lot of time to get into too many more things. Designing buildings, tiles, fabric, graphics and furnishings takes most of my time. I have of course always loved the Lobero building, so I am happy to work with the organization. I like to support good architecture.
How did your partnership with the Lobero begin? I think that I got a call from David Asbell. I’m sure he did his homework and knew that I couldn’t pass up working on a great building like the Lobero.
How was it for you to create something new to work with a historic building? The Historic Landmarks Committee wanted to make sure the tent had a “Historic” reference, and in addition, they did not want the tent to be attached to the physical building. The tent is based on a North African/Southern Spain Moorish tent; also, we had to make the tent in a way that not only can it be removed, but also when it is, you shouldn’t find any trace of where it was. Dan Upton, the contractor, devised some clever detailing to make this happen.
Are you approaching this new “summer” tent in the same way? The original tent is based on the Moorish tent. This tent is to provide protection from wind and water. The new “summer” tent is going in a different direction, because the function for the summer is entirely different–only to provide shade. We have a couple of different directions that we are entertaining. One is a formal and symmetrical design that is more like layered clouds, and another direction includes many smaller sails that would create more of a forest canopy. We have models of both, and are currently debating the pros & cons of each idea. Marianne Clark has said that you took a key role in getting the tent permitted and approved by the Historic Landmarks committee. “If it weren’t for Jeff overseeing the [Lobero] tent project through the process, I’m not sure we would have it today.”

in memoriam Alberto Paul Pizano Santa Barbara lost a tireless advocate for education and the cultural arts in the passing of Alberto Pizano. Born and raised in East Los Angeles, Pizano’s vast contributions can be seen through the many leadership positions he held in local and regional organizations over the course of his lifetime. Pizano was particularly dedicated to serving the Latino community, both through political and philanthropic support for education, and providing platforms for the arts. Shortly after Pizano and his family moved to Santa Barbara in the 1970’s, Pizano joined the Santa Barbara School Districts’ Board of Education. As the only Latino on the school board, Pizano was an advocate for creating a more diverse district from the top down.
Pizano made a name for himself by cofounding and/or leading a plethora of community organizations including the Flamenco Arts Festival, Mariachi Festival, Public Education Foundation, United Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Barbara County, Santa Barbara Business Council, Santa Barbara Latinos for Better Government, and Old Spanish Days Fiesta, for which he served as El Presidente in 1987. The Flamenco Arts Festival found a home at the Lobero Theatre for many years, and the Lobero Theatre Foundation is proud to pay tribute to the dynamic and passionate Al Pizano by naming a seat in his honor. Pizano is survived by his wife Lillian of 65 years; his daughters Vibiana Pizano Smith and Sonia Pizano-Bellotti; grandchildren Pablo Pizano Smith and Jaclyn Pizano Smith; and sons-in-law Brian Smith and Philip Bellotti. He is predeceased by his two sons, Paul Pizano and Michael Pizano.
Molly Wrather Dolle Molly was raised in West Los Angeles, California and attended The Westlake School for Girls (now Harvard Westlake). A great athlete, Molly won many awards for diving and tennis and was a ferocious dancer. After attending UCLA, Molly began her family in Los Angeles while also being deeply involved in the Disneyland Hotel, La Horizon Hotel in Palm Springs and various other companies associated with the Wrather Corporation. Molly relocated from Los Angeles to Santa Barbara in 1990, where she surrounded herself with wonderful friends and family. Molly’s philanthropic energies in the Santa Barbara and Los Angeles area have benefited many including: Cottage Hospital, The Cancer Center, The United Way, Foundation for Santa Barbara City College, Santa Barbara Zoo, Visiting Nurses & Hospice Care, and Girls, Inc.
Molly was an avid golfer and member of Birnam Wood Golf Club, The Beach Club, The Coral Casino, The Alisal and Santa Barbara Yacht Club. Molly is survived by her wonderful children Heather Forsyth, Craig Forsyth (Joanne), Megan Forsyth Duffy (Taylor), and Marcy Dolle Bazzani (Matthew) and her six grandchildren, Antonia and Miabella Bazzani, Lauren, Sydney and Piper Forsyth, and Kaia Molly Duffy. Molly also is survived by her brothers Lee Danielson and Chris Wrather and sister Linda Finocchiaro along with ten nieces and nephews. Molly was predeceased by her mother and father as well as her brother Jack Devereaux Wrather III and her nephew Keith Brown.

Santa Barbara has made history again and again at the Lobero Theatre. From its re-building in 1924 to its beautiful restoration in 2013, we have shown how much this theatre means to us as a community. Now it is time to look to the future. Towbes Family Endowment for Dance From Martha Graham to Mikhail Baryshnikov, from rising stars to toddlers in tutus, the Lobero stage has hosted the finest dancers of our time, as well as those who wish to follow in their remarkable footsteps. The Towbes Family Endowment for Dance was created to keep our dance program en pointe and growing by leaps and bounds. Lobero Theatre’s Endowment for Theatre The stars of Hollywood, Broadway and London’s West End have been sashaying in and out of our spotlight since 1924. The Endowment for Theatre will strengthen our dramatic success, keeping the curtain up for both esteemed local troupes and acclaimed touring companies from across the globe. Lobero Theatre’s Endowment for American Roots Music The Lobero grew up alongside American music, from jazz, blues and folk to boogie-woogie, rock and funk. Legendary artists Dave
Brubeck, Dr. John, Odetta and Joan Baez have treasured the Lobero for its fine audiences, acoustics and ambience. The Endowment for American Roots Music keeps us in tune with a nation that has always marched to its own soulful beat. Lobero Theatre’s Endowment for Classical Music As intimate as it is elegant, the Lobero is the ideal setting for arias and overtures–and for introducing young ears to the genre’s inimitable icons. Isaac Stern and Andras Schiff, Marian Anderson and Kiri Te Kanawa have all performed here. The Endowment for Classical Music ensures that our halls will always resound with music. Kelly J. Morgan Endowment for Youth The Lobero has always been a community stage, a place where young artists have found their wings and chased their dreams. Just ask David Crosby, who first performed here in his teens. The Kelly J. Morgan Endowment for Youth, named in memory of a young thespian that loved the theatre, provides an opportunity for children to explore their talents on the Lobero stage.
Consider a gift to one of our Endowment Pillars to help ensure that history continues to be made at the Lobero Theatre.
