Coastal PACIFIC PINES How often should I clean my filter? We recommend cleaning your filter every month during the Summer swimming period. If you have a sand filter, backwash for 3-5 mins, and follow with a rinse for about 1 minute. If you have a cartridge filter, then hosing out the debris that has collected inside the folds is a must. We also recommend using a filter cleaner twice a year. Oils and greases from sunscreen and bather wastes accumulate in your filter. This treatment will “degrease’ your filter and allow your filter to work more efficiently. The cleaner your filter, the better your water clarity.
